- Chapter 19 - Zerg World 19, Even in Death, We Shall Be Together
A voice light as air.
Deep, gentle, and magnetic, it was like a fluffy feather drifting down; when it landed by the female’s ear, it easily stirred a wave of itchiness.
Alex’s heart grew even more chaotic.
His lips moved silently, wanting to say something to rescue himself from this awkward predicament, but his mind, now a complete blank, offered no way to change the subject. He couldn’t even force out a single word. He could only sit there with a stiff body, watching the male slowly lean toward him.
“Why aren’t you speaking?”
Chu Sicheng blinked in confusion, acting as though he couldn’t see Alex’s panic and tension at all.
With fair, soft fingertips pressing lightly against the black leather seat, the beautiful male tilted his body toward Alex. It was like guidance, yet also like temptation, resembling a green snake coiling around a tree. The snake’s body slid down slowly, inch by inch, enticing the female before it to open his mouth and willingly bite the vibrant apple.
“Alex,” the female heard him say, “answer me. If I go back to the trash planet to pick garbage, then you what?”
He wasn’t sure if it was a hallucination, but as the male’s voice fell, Alex seemed to smell that faint, metallic citrus scent again. It was a common pheromone scent, yet it inexplicably made his entire body feel refreshed.
Alex’s gaze involuntarily fell upon the male’s shoulder. Through the slightly open collar, he could vaguely see the tooth marks on the collarbone. He had left those there; they hadn’t fully faded yet.
If the male went back to the trash planet, would other females leave similar marks on him? Would another female’s tooth marks overlap the wounds he had left? Then, with the passing of time, would every trace of him slowly vanish from the male’s body? Would the male eventually… not even remember him?
Was that acceptable? Could he live with that?
His eyelashes trembled as Alex instinctively licked the tip of a tooth.
“You can’t.”
He suddenly reached out and grabbed Chu Sicheng’s fingers, which were pressing against the seat near his leg. As emotions swirled in his eyes, his tone grew inadvertently fierce.
“You absolutely cannot!”
Ryan could not go back to the trash planet, and he certainly could not be with other females! Even if he remained an F-rank male forever, he could only stay by Alex’s side. Since Ryan had been the one to reach out to him first, how could he turn around and walk away so casually after pulling Alex out of the darkness?
He couldn’t! He absolutely couldn’t!
“If you insist on going back to the trash planet, then I… then I will—”
Alex’s grip on Chu Sicheng’s hand grew tighter. The black Zerg markings on his neck flickered in and out of view. It looked as though the dark thoughts he had been suppressing deep in his heart were about to pour out.
However, at that moment, the emergency ringtone on his light-brain suddenly blared. Following that, a majestic voice with a faint air of command echoed throughout the vehicle.
“Alex, there are urgent matters at home that need your attention. Come to the old manor within half an hour.”
It was Alex’s father, Marshal Saxon.
No matter the circumstances, hearing an elder’s voice was always a mood-killer.
The hand Alex held went stiff. The Zerg markings on his neck mostly vanished at the sound of Marshal Saxon’s voice, a clear sign that he had regained his reason.
Chu Sicheng blinked and said nothing, quietly watching as the female lowered his head, slowly released his hand, and moved further away. The female was radiating the awkwardness of someone who had just sobered up after a drunken outburst.
“Ahem.”
Realizing what he had just almost done to Chu Sicheng, Alex rubbed his nose in embarrassment. He didn’t even dare to look back at Chu Sicheng, keeping his body turned toward the car door as he watched the scenery blur past the window.
“Sorry, I need to head back to the old manor now.”
“Mhm,” Chu Sicheng nodded.
“Then I’ll get off first. We can talk more about the deal later.”
Alex pressed the pause button on the hovercar, stepped out, closed the door, and walked away quickly. The movements were seamless, as if he were a mouse fleeing from a cat.
Chu Sicheng watched his frantic retreat and let out a low laugh.
[Host, what are you laughing at?]
The System, which had been shivering since seeing the Zerg markings on Alex’s neck, looked at Chu Sicheng’s unstoppable smile and couldn’t understand his logic.
[Host, aren’t you afraid?]
Chu Sicheng cleared his throat. [Afraid of what?]
[Afraid of the villain!] The System felt a lingering fear just thinking about Alex’s appearance. [I didn’t even dare to breathe.]
Those pitch-black markings made the System feel that the female was about to blacken and fall into a berserk state at any second. The image of Alex throwing Chu Sicheng until he coughed up blood in the isolation room was still stored on the System’s hard drive; it was heart-wrenching every time it watched.
It feared that if Chu Sicheng continued to cooperate with Alex, he might kill himself before the bugs were even cleared.
[Host, do we really have to cooperate with the villain? I feel like his mental state is unstable. Aren’t you worried he’ll suddenly blacken? What if he falls into a berserk state during a mission?]
[Well…] Chu Sicheng rested his hand on the window, his fingers tapping the glass in an irregular rhythm that matched his casual attitude toward the System’s concerns. [What is there to worry about?]
A villain’s blackening required specific conditions. In the original text, Alex’s descent was caused by Elio’s torture. Now that their engagement was gone, what reason did Alex have to blacken?
As for the berserk state…
Chu Sicheng blinked and leaned back into the seat. He slowly raised his hand to the wound that Alex had stared at for so long. He pressed down slightly, feeling a faint sting accompanied by a minuscule scent of citrus.
“Then…” the male spoke slowly in a cheerful tone, as if answering both the System and the female from ten minutes ago.
“I’ll just let him bite me again.”
What if he goes berserk? What if the marks fade? Then, just let him bite again. Chu Sicheng was always generous toward his trading partners.
He turned his head to look out the window. The clean, transparent glass showed the beautiful landscape outside while clearly reflecting the male’s own image—especially those blue-gray eyes, with pupils shining like starlight.
Alex did not share Chu Sicheng’s relaxed mood. After being interrupted by his father’s urgent voice, he arrived at the old manor in a rush, fueled by a mix of avoidance and genuine concern. Looking at the various files on males that his father had slammed down in front of him, Alex couldn’t help but speak up.
“What is the meaning of this?”
“What do you think it means!” Marshal Saxon ignored the shock and anger on Alex’s face, pointing at the top document. “This contains detailed records of Lord Levitt’s preferences and things to note during dates. Take it back and study it. At nine o’clock in the morning three days from now, pick him up from the Protection Center on time.”
Alex was nearly moved to laughter by the Marshal’s entitlement. “So the ‘urgent matter’ in your message was this?”
“What else!” Marshal Saxon was deeply dissatisfied with Alex’s rebellious attitude. “If you hadn’t insisted on canceling the engagement at the banquet, would I need to squeeze out time to apply for dates and find data for you now?”
Alex sneered. “Did I ask you to do any of this?”
“What kind of attitude is that!” Marshal Saxon slammed the table and stood up in a rage. “If you weren’t my son, do you think I would care about you? Look at the Zerg markings on your neck! Look how far they have spread!”
Alex instinctively covered his neck, but the movement didn’t stop the Marshal’s sharp gaze or his biting words.
“Do you think that because you’ve been receiving soothing from that F-rank male lately, you can act tough in front of me? Do I need to repeat the biological education you received for over ten years in school?”
“Don’t you know under what conditions an SS-rank female can be completely soothed, or how the mental power damaged during a berserk period can be repaired?”
Marshal Saxon took a deep breath. “Setting aside the fact that the male from the trash planet has only given you shallow soothing twice, even if he were willing to give you deep soothing, don’t forget he is only an F-rank. A B-rank male is exhausted after soothing an S-rank female. Him? An F-rank?”
The Marshal gave a cold snort. “Do you want him to be squeezed into a dried corpse?”
Alex was silent.
“So,” Marshal Saxon tapped the files on the desk again, “three days. Memorize every key point in there.”
Alex lowered his eyes, staring at the files without a word despite his father’s prodding. He didn’t understand why the Zerg God’s blessings never fell upon him, while fate’s punishments came one after another.
“Did you hear me?”
His father’s voice rang in his ears again. In a daze, it seemed even the male’s voice began to echo around him.
Alex, if I go back to the trash planet… If I stay an F-rank, I’ll go back to pick garbage. Alex, I’m going back to the trash planet. Goodbye.
Never to meet again.
Alex’s fingers, hanging by his side, tightened and loosened repeatedly.
“No.”
He moved his lips during his father’s next urge.
BANG!
The female pulled his sidearm from his waist with a cold face and blasted the files on the desk to shreds. Amidst the drifting smoke, his green eyes lowered. They were filled with a cold sharpness that Marshal Saxon had never seen before—as if, if he were any more unhappy, the muzzle would be aimed at his father’s forehead in the next second.
At this moment, the timid, obedient son who allowed himself to be manipulated had vanished. In his place stood General Saxon, the one who was decisive and ruthless on the battlefield.
“Father,” Marshal Saxon heard Alex say, “I am not going. Not in three days, and not ever.”
“But your Zerg markings…”
“It doesn’t matter.”
If he couldn’t be soothed, then so be it. If he couldn’t be repaired, then so be it. If all else failed, he would simply die. But even in death, the male had to stay by his side!
[Ding!]
In the quiet night, a unique system notificatio
