- Chapter 11 - Zerg World 11, A Villain's Fate is to Fight Alone
The female Zerg stood beside a cluster of blooming red roses. He was handsome and tall, with a cold gaze that shifted into something complex the moment he saw Chu Sicheng.
Perhaps because he was on leave, Alex wasn’t wearing the military uniform that usually seemed welded to his body. Instead, he wore a loose black cardigan over a white shirt. The collar, left without a tie, was slightly pulled open to reveal his fair, delicate collarbones. With his hair slightly disheveled by the wind and his brows faintly furrowed amidst the roses, he looked less icy than usual, exuding an indescribable allure.
That is, if he hadn’t been standing next to someone else’s rosebushes.
Chu Sicheng glanced at Alex, then turned his head to look at the sign on the nearby gate.
No. 213, Jingshan District.
That’s right; this was Friedrich’s house. He had not made a mistake.
Chu Sicheng looked back at Alex. “What are you doing here?”
Alex had no intention of answering that question. He scanned the surroundings first to ensure the patrol teams hadn’t arrived yet. Then, he looked at Chu Sicheng, who was dressed entirely in black from his hat and mask down to his trousers, and despite trying to hold it back, he couldn’t help himself.
“You don’t actually think dressing like this will keep you from being discovered, do you?”
The cameras in this area were equipped with thermal imaging. As long as you were breathing, even if you painted yourself black from head to toe, you’d be detected within a second of entering the frame.
Furthermore, “You should know that Friedrich is an SS-rank female.”
Alex’s voice was low, placing heavy emphasis on the word “female.” Setting aside the fact that higher-ranking females possessed superior combat power and defense, the innate physical disparity between males and females meant Chu Sicheng’s night raid was doomed to fail.
Never mind getting revenge; Chu Sicheng would be lucky to escape with his life. Alex hoped the male would wake up to reality, but after all that talking, Chu Sicheng only processed one piece of information.
“So, you’re not here to cooperate with me?”
Then why make such a stylish entrance in the middle of the night? Chu Sicheng thought. For a split second, he’d been excited thinking he wouldn’t have to do the dirty work himself.
Alex was speechless.
He glanced at the dark street corner in the distance and then down at the time on his light-brain. “The patrol will be here in five minutes at most.”
“Is that so?” Chu Sicheng smiled. “Then you should hurry up and leave.”
Don’t let me catch you wasting my time.
Alex was frustrated. Does this guy not understand a word I’m saying?
Perhaps due to Chu Sicheng’s lack of cooperation, the temperature around Alex seemed to drop several degrees, his expression turning terrifyingly dark. He really should just leave this male here. If he wanted to seek death, let him; it had nothing to do with Alex.
Yet, whether it was because the male’s pheromones still held a strong influence over him or for some other reason, Alex found himself unable to take a step away.
“Do you absolutely have to go in?” Alex asked, suppressing his last shred of patience.
Unfortunately, Chu Sicheng had run out of patience as well. He answered Alex’s question by nimbly scaling the wall.
Yes, he was going in. In fact, he was already over.
“You!”
Alex hadn’t expected Chu Sicheng to scale the wall without a word. Before he could even reach out to stop him, the male’s figure had vanished over the top.
[Host, are you really just leaving the villain behind like that?] The System asked worriedly, looking at the rose petals fluttering down from the fence.
[He has legs, doesn’t he?]
Besides, Chu Sicheng had more important things to do than play games like “walk the child home.”
With his mind set on tormenting the protagonist, Chu Sicheng tossed the beautiful rosebushes to the back of his mind. Following the map he had researched on his light-brain, he made his way unimpeded to the exterior of the room where Friedrich usually rested.
It was currently 1:26 AM. Most Zerg would have been deep in sleep by now, but Friedrich’s room was still brightly lit. In fact, there was more than one person inside.
Seeing two silhouettes reflected on the window, Chu Sicheng’s eyes flickered. To the System’s shock, he pulled a small listening device from his pocket and threw it with precision onto Friedrich’s window.
With a few quick taps on his light-brain, Chu Sicheng adjusted his earpiece. The next second, Philo’s voice came through clearly.
“Do you believe me now, Friedrich? That Ryan is a villain. He’s definitely teamed up with Saxon and wants to push you into that fire pit known as Elio!”
Friedrich seemed to still have doubts. After a brief silence, he asked, “But how would he know Elio’s true face?”
After all, Elio was currently the public’s “perfect lover” with an impeccable image. How would Saxon, who hadn’t married him yet, know that the marriage would be a living hell?
“About that,” Philo mused for a moment.
He wasn’t entirely sure why Ryan, the “protagonist-top,” would push the “protagonist-bottom” into someone else’s arms and mingle with a villain instead. Even his personality was completely different from the original text.
But could he tell Friedrich that? Obviously not.
Having gained Friedrich’s favor through his “prophetic” abilities, Philo wasn’t about to sabotage himself. He answered through gritted teeth.
“It’s likely because Alex himself dislikes males, so he asked Ryan to find a way to break his engagement. It just so happens you’re threatening Alex’s control over the prison, so they decided to dump this mess on you.”
Philo paused, then shifted the focus. “Besides, think back to the meeting. Wasn’t Ryan constantly siding with Alex and targeting you?”
“That,” Friedrich looked down, his fingers slowly stroking the armrest. Unconsciously, the image of the male’s arrogant blue-gray eyes, eyes that no longer held a place for him, flashed through his mind.
For some reason, Friedrich’s heart twinged with pain. Subconsciously, he didn’t want to continue this topic. Avoiding Philo’s gaze, he skipped the question.
“So, what do we do now?”
With the prison management rights out of reach and a disastrous marriage potentially looming over him, Friedrich was in an incredibly disadvantageous position.
But Philo felt the timing was perfect. The more helpless Friedrich felt, the more important Philo, the one staying by his side to plot, would seem. If he could help him escape this predicament now, gaining favor would be a breeze.
Thinking this, Philo suppressed a smirk and whispered to the frowning female.
“About that, I have a plan.”
Friedrich looked at him. “What plan?”
“The plan is,” Philo rose slowly under Friedrich’s gaze and walked over to him, picking up the invitation to the Royal Victory Banquet from the table.
He flicked the gold-leafed edge of the card twice and leaned in. As a thick scent wafted toward Friedrich, Philo’s voice drifted into his ear.
“Elio’s fiancé is still Saxon. If, during the banquet, his fiancé were to ‘accidentally’ go into heat, the task of soothing him would fall to Elio.”
“But Elio is only an A-rank male. He can’t soothe an SS-rank female just by releasing pheromones. If he wants to completely stabilize Saxon, he must,”
“Mark him!”
A female marked by a male in front of numerous nobles at a banquet; what choice would he have but to marry the male who marked him?
Once Alex married Elio, his life would become an endless purgatory. He wouldn’t have the energy to manage Mogras, and the management rights would naturally fall to Friedrich.
As for Ryan, Philo looked at Friedrich. “He will indeed become an S-rank after a successful second evolution. But, what if his second evolution fails?”
If it fails, he stays an F-rank forever. What threat could an F-rank male be, someone useless for both reproduction and soothing?
Philo smiled at the silent Friedrich. “Well, Friedrich? Do you think my plan is feasible?”
No further sound came from the earpiece from Friedrich, but based on Philo’s cheerful laughter, it wasn’t hard to guess that the female had ultimately agreed.
Chu Sicheng leaned against the wall below the window, a lollipop he’d swiped from somewhere dangling from his mouth. Most of his face was hidden in the shadows, making it impossible to read his expression.
In truth, he wasn’t thinking much. The plot Philo and Friedrich were hatching against him didn’t feel like a threat at all. As for the part about scheming against Alex, since Alex wouldn’t cooperate, it was none of Chu Sicheng’s business.
Oh well. Fighting alone is just a villain’s fate.
So, at this moment, all Chu Sicheng was thinking about was when the lights upstairs would go out, and when he could finally start his “body and soul” torment of Friedrich.
He bit down on the lollipop with a sharp crunch. The light from the room spilled through the window, illuminating half of his body.
In that instant, Chu Sicheng seemed to stand on the boundary between light and shadow: blinding brightness in front of him, and boundless darkness behind.
Just as Chu Sicheng moved his feet to abandon the light and plunge into the darkness, his arm was suddenly grabbed from behind.
