When the Possessive Omega Fell for Me - Chapter 67
The distance between Yi Jing and Qi Xiao’s current location and the Supervision Court wasn’t far. At maximum speed, they could arrive in about ten minutes. Yi Jing didn’t let Qi Xiao accompany him, getting out of the car alone near the Supervision Court.
Rushing into the Supervision Court building, Yi Jing headed straight for his office. As soon as he entered, he activated the holographic screen and pulled up the warrant issuance permissions from the work system. He first drafted an inspection warrant, then had it approved by both the oversight officer of the election preparation team and the deputy director of the Supervision Court. After that, he forwarded it to Qi Xiao. Once Qi Xiao granted his approval, a joint inspection warrant authorized by the election preparation team, the Supervision Court, and the city police department was issued.
With the warrant in hand, Yi Jing unceremoniously took the director-level permissions from Delinke’s office and secretly mobilized the Supervision Court’s unmanned drones to equip the inspectors who had already begun their operation.
The emergency inspection warrant was sent to the terminals of all inspectors involved in the District Nine operation. Yi Jing took over as the action coordinator, linking everyone’s location data to his own work terminal, effectively turning himself into a mobile command center.
At the same time, the District Nine police headquarters and nearby precinct stations near three private ports all received top-priority encrypted files from higher-ups. Unlocking them with the highest-level clearance revealed a terrifying inspection warrant especially since the first approving authority listed was none other than the “Election Preparation Team.”
At this point, who in Jing’an City didn’t know that the core district was embroiled in a chaotic battle over election-related issues? The “Election Preparation Team” was the eye of the storm, representing the very heart of the conflict.
The sudden resurgence of the District Five purge case was still fresh in everyone’s memory. No one wanted to get tangled up in core district troubles at a time like this yet District Nine had just been handed this “heaven-sent surprise.”
The moment the District Nine police chief saw the inspection warrant, he nearly choked if any problems were uncovered in District Nine now, none of them would escape accountability. Every last one of them would be held responsible!
The chief had a splitting headache and desperately wanted to feign illness and go home. But before he could even think of dodging the responsibility, a call came in with the urgency of a death knell. The caller ID alone, marked with the numerical code prefix of the Supervision Court’s core district office—told him everything.
Chief: “…”
Damn it. The grim reaper is calling.
The chief had no desire to take this call and answered reluctantly. But Yi Jing couldn’t care less about what anyone thought. His icy voice cut straight to the point: “District Nine Police Chief’s office? This is Yi Jing from the Supervision Court.”
“…” The chief sighed inwardly but replied with forced professionalism, “Deputy Director Yi, this is Harris Bale, Chief of District Nine Police.”
The middle-aged man’s voice came through the terminal as Yi Jing glanced at the newly acquired satellite images of the three private ports and got straight to business: “Have you received the inspection warrant?”
Harris Bale: “Yes, we’ve just decrypted it using the chief’s clearance.”
“Immediately deploy all personnel from the Ninth District Police Department’s investigation and operations teams, while mobilizing officers from all precincts near the private ports for perimeter interception. You’ll oversee the overall coordination. I want confirmation within thirty minutes that all personnel are in position and all three ports are completely locked down. The on-site deployment details must be sent to me immediately.” Yi Jing issued the uncompromising order.
Harris Bayer hesitated to dispatch forces without clear justification and wanted to ask more questions, but before he could speak, Yi Jing decisively cut him off.
The tone coming through the communication was unusually severe as Yi Jing spoke with bone-chilling coldness:
“The key to this operation is speed, we must complete everything before the other side takes action. If we fail to establish the blockade before they notice, I’ll hold you personally accountable for this failure!”
Harris Bayer choked up again upon hearing this, feeling he might have been dragged into some high-stakes blame-shifting scenario where he’d be ‘sacrificed’ as a scapegoat by some panicking senior official if he didn’t act fast. Not daring to say another word, he simply responded with ‘Understood’ and rushed out personally to lead the team.
After ending the call with the Ninth District Police Chief, Yi Jing strode toward the exit of the Supervision Court building while putting away her terminal. The junior intern from the Supervision Committee, whom she’d pre-designated as driver, came jogging over: “Chief Officer, the vehicle is ready for immediate departure.”
Yi Jing nodded without breaking stride, carrying her equipment case as she marched outside: “Depart at once. Take the fastest route to the Ninth District. With the inspection order and police clearance, we stop for nothing.”
“Understood!” The intern matched Yi Jing’s pace with a resolute response.
Fresh to the Supervision Court and completely inexperienced, the intern didn’t hesitate to comply when receiving orders from this admired superior.
Frowning as she watched the intern run ahead, Yi Jing continued analyzing the situation.
To avoid alerting their targets, her official vehicle remained with Lin Fei, so they were using a temporary car requisitioned from the Supervision Court.
Qi Xiao and Lin Fei’s teams hadn’t fully withdrawn yet, and the municipal police response would be slower than the Supervision Court’s. The Yi family might not yet be aware of the operation speed was critical.
If the Yi family detected their intentions, they’d lose the initiative.
While strategizing, the intern pulled the Supervision Court vehicle up to the building entrance. Yi Jing opened the door and got in, commanding: “Move out immediately. No stops, I’ll handle all procedures.”
“Understood!”
The black car shot forward like an arrow, bypassing all checkpoints under traffic police coordination to break through the congested core district at maximum speed.
Simultaneously, as the operation commenced, communications from all sectors began flooding Yi Jing’s terminal.
Pulling up the terminal’s holographic interface to float before her, Yi Jing’s fingers danced nimbly across the display, issuing one command after another while simultaneously processing incoming reports through her earpiece:
“Core District Traffic Command is in position, coordinating with Third and Fifth District traffic teams to facilitate the Supervision Court’s inspection operation and clear the way for the Chief Officer.”
“Logistics Unit has approved the armed equipment requisition request.”
“Logistics team from the Supervision Bureau is mobilizing. Drones have been deployed, with weapons expected to be delivered in batches within fifteen minutes.”
Reports streamed into Yi Jing’s terminal as she monitored responses from cooperating units while simultaneously tracking the positions of District Nine officers and Supervision Bureau inspectors, ensuring the encirclement was forming properly.
“Surveillance Team One in position, en route to target location.”
“Surveillance Team Two deployed, successfully received equipment from drone drop thirty seconds ago.”
“Surveillance Team Three linked with District Nine task force comes, ready for remote support.”
Main investigative forces from District Thirteen couldn’t reach District Nine within half an hour, leaving only technical support through the communication network. Should the operation falter, Surveillance Team Three would serve as the Supervision Bureau’s crucial oversight tool against District Nine’s police department.
“What’s the status in District Nine?” Yi Jing calmly initiated a call, demanding an update from Harris. “Have the estimated police forces reached their designated positions?”
Harris studied his operation command interface, sensing something amiss. The operation had commenced too abruptly, no warnings, no intelligence leaks. Could this mission be trusted? Would proceeding drag them into something irreversible?
Had they chosen the wrong side?
Yet the situation left no room for hesitation. Despite his doubts, Harris had no choice but to respond: “The fastest response team has already taken concealed positions two kilometers from the target port, securing key access routes. Full encirclement expected in twenty minutes.”
“Good,” Yi Jing acknowledged, her gaze fixed on the command screen, expression stern. “No premature advances before complete encirclement. Your role is containment and support, the main operation falls to the Supervision Bureau under my command.”
“Understood.”
Harris, stationed in District Nine, exhaled in relief. While this meant District Nine’s police would claim little credit, it also absolved him of responsibility should things go awry. Reflecting on the operation’s suspicious nature, he found solace being caught in this was inevitable, but the current arrangement shielded him from future repercussions. Any inconvenient truths could simply be ignored.
With that thought, Harris subtly signaled his secretary in the front seat. Taking the hint, the secretary stepped out of the makeshift command vehicle to make a call, an act Harris deliberately overlooked, allowing the leak of operational details.
Meanwhile, in the core district, Yi Jing didn’t press Surveillance Team Three to strictly monitor all District Nine personnel. She knew the operation was unlikely to conclude as planned, and exposing the Yi family would defeat her true purpose.
She only wanted Yu Miao back.
Targeting the Yi family was a last resort; the patriarch would inevitably intervene. Coolly assessing the situation, Yi Jing divided her attention between monitoring the operation’s progress and rapidly inputting commands.
Before long, as anticipated, Yi Jing’s vehicle was stopped.
“Sheriff!” The intern driving the car called out to Yi Jing in a flustered tone.
Yi Jing looked up and saw several uniformly styled vintage black limousines blocking her path ahead.
The luxury vehicles, which looked more like they belonged at an auto show than obstructing traffic, were parked diagonally one after another, forming an oddly aesthetic barricade.
She glanced back to see two similar black cars slowly pulling up behind her at a precise distance, like gate guardians, effectively boxing her vehicle in with those blocking the front.
This was unmistakably the Yi family’s doing.
Since she needed to reach an emergency operation site quickly, the Traffic Headquarters had already coordinated with district traffic teams to clear all routes for one to three minutes before her arrival. No one could easily bypass such traffic control under investigation orders except the Yi family.
At this moment, only Yi family members would have the means to intercept her like this.
Most likely, the old patriarch Yi had obtained an emergency pass from the outgoing mayor and immediately deployed it to stop her.
Just then, a communication from Traffic Headquarters came through her terminal. The official on the other end sounded equally frustrated about the blockade:
“Apologies, Sheriff. Rest assured our headquarters’ operations are flawless. I’m dispatching officers to clear those vehicles immediately.”
“No need. I’ll handle it,” Yi Jing replied coolly, declining assistance.
With that, she instructed the intern to lower her window.
The tinted one-way glass descended slowly, allowing the elevated highway’s wind to rush into the car. The breeze carried a faint aquatic scent as it swept across Yi Jing’s impassive face, tousling her hair.
A Yi family representative approached her vehicle, bowing slightly with a polite smile. “Miss Jing,” he greeted warmly.
Yi Jing recognized him instantly, the butler who shadowed the old patriarch. His presence revealed the family’s stance, prompting a sardonic smile. “How rare to see you in person. Previously, no amount of searching could turn you up.”
The butler maintained his composed smile, unfazed by her hostility. Still bowing, he presented his terminal. “There seems to be some misunderstanding. As the chairman’s granddaughter and a Yi family member, the chairman has never intended to sever familial bonds.”
With practiced ease, he activated the terminal’s display screen, revealing a video that dominated the interface. “I believe this contains what you’ve been longing for, Miss Jing.”
The surveillance footage clearly showed Yu Miao.
As the shaky camera zoomed in, Yu Miao’s face came into focus her eyes closed, head tilted against the seatback in deep slumber. Even in unconsciousness, her serene beauty remained breathtaking.
But seeing Yu Miao in this helpless state shattered Yi Jing’s composure. She grabbed the butler by his collar. “What have you done to her?!”
The intern in the front seat turned around in shock, clearly confused but still frantically activating the weapons system to prepare for a forced breakthrough.
The butler, who was being half-dragged into the car by his collar, remained remarkably calm. Raising his hands peacefully, he said:
“Miss Jing, the family won’t do anything to Miss Yu Miao. She’s merely asleep. Given Miss Yu Miao’s formidable personal capabilities, this was the only safe approach we could take.”
“Chairman Yi still remembers she’s your self-proclaimed fiancée. As I’ve reminded you, the Chairman has no intention of severing family ties.”
“Is that so?” Yi Jing let out a cold, mocking laugh. “Then your elaborate scheme to abduct Yu Miao in my absence and go to such lengths to hide her from me was just meant to teach me a lesson?”
The butler smiled again, lowering his voice to advise: “Miss Jing, you really shouldn’t have opposed the Old Master.”
“…” Yi Jing had no interest in debating whether her choices during that press conference were right. The situation had already escalated to this point – if the Yi family wanted stable development, they’d have to return Yu Miao to her.
“Enough nonsense. Where is Yu Miao?” Yi Jing demanded coldly, tightening her grip on the butler’s collar.
“Miss, I can’t simply tell you,” the butler met Yi Jing’s gaze steadily. “Not even as the Old Master’s favored junior. You know exactly why I’m here. Unless my objective is achieved, I cannot disclose Miss Yu’s whereabouts.”
Yi Jing’s expression darkened as she locked eyes with the butler in a frosty standoff.
Neither would yield an inch, both refusing to back down.
After a tense moment, concern for Yu Miao’s safety won out. Yi Jing was the first to relent, though her tone remained icy: “I’ve even issued investigation orders, mobilized cross-regional task forces – do you expect me to walk away empty-handed after all this?”
This would undoubtedly please the Yi family – her professional failure would damage her own prospects, saving them the trouble of undermining her.
The butler’s smile revealed nothing as he delivered his seemingly gentle threat:
“Miss Jing, I’m merely a butler. This matter is far beyond my authority to decide. In fact, whether this exchange succeeds depends not on the Chairman, but on you.”
“If Miss Yu truly means so much to you, you’ll surely compromise for her sake, won’t you?”
“So in the Old Master’s eyes, my operational objectives mean nothing?” Yi Jing refused to take the bait, her face hardening as she countered sarcastically,
“If that port weren’t so crucial, would you even be standing here negotiating with me? Drop the act. Tell the Old Master that if Yu Miao suffers so much as a scratch, there will be consequences.”
“Don’t think everyone lacks channels for reporting upwards. Have you even properly hidden that piece of trash you retrieved from Western Europe before flaunting it before me?”
The butler froze momentarily before grasping Yi Jing’s implication, his complexion instantly changing.
“I’ll give you five more minutes to reconsider,” Yi Jing said coolly, withdrawing her gaze. “You may have captured Yu Miao, but could you possibly apprehend me in such short notice?”
Though Yi Jing left the thought unfinished, the butler understood her meaning perfectly.
Either they return Yu Miao to Yi Jing, withdraw their people from the port, and leave the remaining evidence for the Inspectorate to investigate, forcing the Yi family to swallow this bitter pill or Yi Jing would sever ties with the Yi family.
While Yu Miao’s safety remained uncertain, Yi Jing would also completely turn against the Yi family, exposing all the evidence she had against them.
If Yi Jing had merely threatened them with the port, the Yi family might not have been intimidated. After all, they could still manage incidents within Jingshi City, albeit with considerable effort. But the real problem now was Yi Jing mentioning Lawrence.
The fact that Yi Jing knew about Lawrence was something they hadn’t anticipated.
What else did Yi Jing know? How much had she uncovered while the Yi family wasn’t paying attention? Just how much of a threat could she pose?
When risks became uncontrollable, actions needed to be reassessed.
The butler indeed stopped confronting Yi Jing, stepping back to contact the Yi family patriarch.
Yi Jing sat calmly in the car, appearing composed, though inwardly, she wasn’t entirely confident.
Her words left no room for negotiation, but what she truly wanted was to get Yu Miao back.
At this moment, she was gambling on whether the Yi patriarch would see the life of an insignificant journalist as far less important than the stability of the Yi family.
A moment later, the butler returned, bowing slightly beside the car. “Miss Jing, the patriarch says we need an hour.”
Yi Jing exhaled sharply in relief.
“Deal.”
She agreed to the arrangement while opening the command system on her terminal. With a few taps on the interface, she removed the device and handed it to the intern in the driver’s seat.
“Find Xu Jiu. Tell her full command authority has been transferred to her. The operation remains under my responsibility, but she’ll handle the execution.”
“B-but, Chief?” The intern stammered, hesitantly taking the terminal, clearly uneasy.
“Xu Jiu will know what to do,” Yi Jing reassured, patting the intern’s shoulder before stepping out of the car. “Go on, don’t worry.”
She had already documented the operation’s specifics and her contingency plans in the command logs. Xu Jiu should understand. After all, they’d worked together long enough. Whether the mission succeeded whether she and Yu Miao could escape safely depended entirely on Xu Jiu’s cooperation now.
“Does Miss Jing intend to return with me first?” The butler stood nearby, wearing a flawlessly polite smile.
Yi Jing had no patience for pretenses. “Take me to Yu Miao.”
“Ah, so you wish to see Miss Yu? Perhaps I could bring her back to the Yi residence instead.”
“Enough.” Yi Jing cut him off sharply.
“Very well.” The butler smiled, gesturing toward a car ahead. “This way, Miss Jing. I’ll take you to her.”
Yi Jing strode forward without sparing him a glance.
As they passed each other, she murmured without turning, “Don’t even think about targeting the Inspectorate’s intern. Traffic Control is still watching. Remember our deal.”
The butler, who had been discreetly eyeing the Inspectorate’s vehicle, immediately averted his gaze and chuckled innocently. “Of course not. You have nothing to worry about, Miss Jing.”
Yi Jing let out a cold laugh, ignoring his words as he turned and got into the car in front of him.
The line of luxury cars blocking the overpass slowly parted to make way. The intern driving immediately took the opening and sped off toward District Nine, carrying the action plan Yi Jing had prepared in advance.
“Shall we go too?” Yi Jing glanced at the butler seated beside him, his eyes carrying an aloof chill.
“Very soon, we’ll be departing immediately,” the butler maintained his seemingly gentle and approachable demeanor as he bent down to retrieve something from the suitcase beside him. He handed it to Yi Jing with a tone that was polite yet brooked no refusal. “Please put this on first, Miss Jing.”
Yi Jing glanced at the ribbon designed to block out sound and light, nearly laughing in exasperation at their audacity.
“I had no idea your hiding spot was so important,” she remarked coldly.
The butler remained unflappable, smiling as he replied, “Please understand, this is a necessary step if you wish to see Miss Yu.”
“Fine, very well,” Yi Jing had no choice, Yu Miao was in their hands. She glared at the butler’s impeccable smile before reluctantly accepting the ribbon. “Let’s see just where you’ve hidden her.”
The butler said nothing more, merely watching her with that same mild expression.
Yi Jing ignored him, frowning as she examined the ribbon in her palm.
The near-black fabric wasn’t heavy, its texture fluid as it settled into her hand. When pressed against her eyes, it tightened automatically, plunging her vision into darkness. Something cold pressed against the back of her ear, sending a faint numbness through the nerves there, then all ambient sound faded away.
With two of her most vital senses for detecting danger suddenly cut off, instinctive unease surged. Yi Jing clenched her fist reflexively, tensing for a moment before forcing herself to relax.
Enveloped in silent darkness, she couldn’t help but feel restless. Her thumb unconsciously rubbed against her knuckle as countless possibilities raced through her mind:
“Without updates from me, there’s no guarantee the Oversight Committee or the Ninth District won’t storm that harbor ahead of schedule. Do as you please, but I’ve already compromised. You’d better deliver me to Yu Miao within half an hour, or I can’t promise our prior agreement will hold.”
Still, only silence answered her.
Yi Jing couldn’t hear any response not that she particularly wanted to speak with this butler anyway. Given the circumstances, either he had heard her demand and was confident they could meet it, or Old Master Yi had decided to use this opportunity to eliminate her as a threat.
She had already shown opposition to the Yi family.
If they let her go now, she would return to the Oversight Bureau as a high-ranking official in the judicial system, undoubtedly causing endless trouble for the Yi family. Given Old Master Yi’s ruthless prioritization of family interests, he would likely start targeting her from here on out.
It all depended on whether he truly feared her aunt.
Regardless, she had already given Xu Jiu the emergency contact protocol. If anything happened to her and she failed to check in with the Oversight action team within thirty minutes, Xu Jiu would use the covert channel to reach Q’s liaison. Every piece of evidence Yi Jing had gathered over these months would then be delivered to her aunt through higher channels.
But that would be the nuclear option mutually assured destruction.
Neither her nor Yu Miao’s safety could be guaranteed, and their actions might not even make much of an impact on the Yi family.
It was a complete and utter defeat.
But Yi Jing was willing to gamble, nbetting that the Yi family, with all its wealth and influence, wouldn’t even be willing to pay such a small price.
Sure enough, just as Yi Jing silently counted to twenty-eight minutes in her mind, the smoothly moving car came to a stop. The butler reached out from nearby, and Yi Jing, now accustomed to the darkness, instinctively flinched away from his touch.
A moment later, Yi Jing realized what was happening and removed the satin blindfold herself.
“Miss Jing,” the butler said, looking at her. “This is where Miss Yu is.”
Yi Jing frowned, adjusting to the light for a moment before glancing around. At some point, all the other cars had disappeared, leaving only the one she had arrived in. They now seemed to be parked in an underground garage empty, desolate, like some long-abandoned building on the outskirts awaiting demolition.
“Over there,” the butler gestured toward a heavy fire door in the distance, firmly shut. “Go straight after entering that door. Miss Yu is waiting for you inside.”
“!!”
Finally hearing news about Yu Miao, Yi Jing no longer cared whether the Yi family had waited until the last possible moment to test her, only revealing Yu Miao’s location once they confirmed the supervisory committee had taken action. All she could think about was seeing Yu Miao as soon as possible. Without thinking, she flung the satin blindfold aside, leaped out of the car, and sprinted toward the door.
Yu Miao, she’d finally found her!
The space beyond the fire door was nothing like the shabby exterior. Instead, it was a long, pure-white corridor that stretched endlessly, like something out of a horror novel, an infinite hospital hallway.
The harsh light stung Yi Jing’s eyes, tears welling up, but she paid no attention. She just did as the butler had said walked straight ahead, kept going, until she found Yu Miao.
Only now did Yi Jing realize just how frantic she had been. The anxiety she had barely suppressed came flooding out all at once, leaving her with no strength to think about anything else until, at last, a familiar, slightly disheveled figure appeared at the far end of the hallway.
“Yu Miao!!!” Yi Jing instinctively cried out the name she had worried over countless times in her heart.
The figure in the distance lifted her head at the sound. When Yi Jing saw that familiar face, a little worse for wear but still breathtakingly beautiful, her heart suddenly felt like it had found its way home.
“Yu Miao!” Yi Jing rushed forward and pulled Yu Miao into her arms before she could even process her own actions.
The familiar warmth of Yu Miao’s body pressed against hers, the scent of her unique pheromones only then did Yi Jing finally feel a sliver of relief.
Her senses, delayed, screamed with the suppressed fear, making Yi Jing bury her face in the crook of Yu Miao’s neck, nuzzling against her as she trembled with worry and anxiety. “Sister, thank goodness, I finally found you. I was so scared.”
Yu Miao, caught off guard by the sudden embrace, stumbled slightly but let out a quiet sigh of relief. Leaning into Yi Jing’s arms, she waited for her racing heart to calm before gently stroking Yi Jing’s back and murmuring softly, “It’s okay, it’s okay. You found me.”
She was taken away by those people and lost consciousness at one point. For a brief moment, she truly thought it might all end like this that she’d never see Yi Jing again.
Only then did she feel a pang of regret.
She still wanted to see Yi Jing one more time.
Yi Jing didn’t respond at first, burying her face deeper into Yu Miao’s embrace. After a long pause, she finally spoke, her voice still trembling with lingering tears. “I was so scared. I was terrified I wouldn’t find you, that I couldn’t save you.”
“It’s okay, it’s alright.” Yu Miao was just as tense, torn between grief and fear that Old Master Yi might act recklessly against Yi Jing. But seeing Yi Jing so distraught, she couldn’t bear to add to her distress. Heart aching, she held Yi Jing tighter, pressing a soft kiss to her hair as she whispered soothingly, “I knew you’d come. I know you love me.”
“Really?” Yi Jing mumbled against Yu Miao’s shoulder.
“Of course.” Yu Miao gave a faint laugh, kissing her again before relaxing into Yi Jing’s arms. “I’ve always believed in you. I was waiting for you.”
Yi Jing froze for a second, only then realizing how exhausted Yu Miao was. Guilt twisted in her chest as she tightened her embrace. “I’m sorry, Jiejie. I came too late. We can’t ever let this happen again.”
Yu Miao shook her head gently, but before she could respond, the ever-elusive butler materialized like a ghost behind Yi Jing, shattering the tender moment between them. With impeccable politeness, he interjected, “Miss Jing, the Old Master wishes to see you.”
