- Chapter 43.2 - Are You Really Willing to Give Up Exposing Me?
Just as the combat-skilled woman was about to hoist one of them up, the hand Yu Miao was using to check that person’s bones were suddenly grasped.
Yu Miao was startled and raised her eyes to look at the person: “?”
That person’s gaze was still unfocused, unable to focus properly. Their body was still trembling slightly, basically matching the symptoms of someone who had been injected with psychotropic drugs and the effects hadn’t worn off yet.
The person seemed to be looking at Yu Miao, yet also seemed unable to find where Yu Miao was. Their lips moved slightly, repeatedly mouthing some words.
After a moment’s hesitation, Yu Miao leaned down to the person’s ear, and heard them constantly repeating two phrases: “Level 1 C03 transfer hub, Medical group data.”
Two short phrases.
In this situation, what they would repeatedly say was obviously the information these two people had desperately concealed!
Yu Miao paused for a moment, then immediately stood up and handed the person over to her temporary partner beside her: “I know where the information they obtained is. I can’t carry these two people, you take them out. I’ll go get that data.”
Yu Miao said this and directly stood up to rush out. The woman behind her wanted to ask something but couldn’t stop Yu Miao: “Hey!”
“You still have the energy to monitor the information on the first floor, right?” Yu Miao pressed her earpiece and said to the demolitions expert who had been maintaining contact.
“I can.” The demolitions expert rarely didn’t talk much for once.
The situation in the control center was now more troublesome than the outside world imagined. The demolitions expert was single-handedly monitoring five different locations simultaneously – the second basement level, Yu Miao’s current moving position, the banquet hall, near the blown-up weapon launch point, and the first floor where Yu Miao was about to go. All the situations in these places were under the demolitions expert’s attention.
The progress bar on the side showed the decoding and downloading progress of the files Yu Miao had specified. The demolitions expert’s own fingers were still operating at high speed, constantly terminating the security system’s automatic programs while responding to external requests.
If it weren’t for manual control, the alarm information would probably have been sent to the mayor’s terminal long ago.
“Good, then I’m going to the C03 transfer hub of the security system now. It should be in some hidden electrical box in the middle of the first floor. Help me check the route.” Yu Miao said.
“Received.”
The first floor was already in chaos. After Yu Miao left the first basement level, the demolitions expert gave directions for the other three to leave. The mansion wasn’t too large in area, but people were running back and forth due to the recent commotion. The two separated groups had to repeatedly hide in different places to avoid others.
“I’m almost at the electrical box where the C03 transfer hub is located now, but there are too many people outside. When will there be time?” Yu Miao asked in a low voice, hiding in a bathroom on the first floor.
The location of the C03 transfer hub was a pillar standing in the middle of the first floor of the mansion. The situation there could be seen from the corridors in several directions. Even if just one or two people passed by, it would be exposed. Yu Miao didn’t dare to get close at all and could only hide in the bathroom not far away to watch.
Medical group data.
Yu Miao had considered abandoning this part of the information and leaving directly. She had already downloaded quite a lot of data at the control center earlier. Perhaps that information these two people obtained would be among those files, in which case taking this risk now would be completely worthless, and leaving as soon as possible would be more worthwhile.
But, Yu Miao couldn’t recall any information about a “medical group” no matter how much she thought about it. This was a blank area not covered in the long and arduous investigation of her past life.
Perhaps it really could be a breakthrough point?
“So is there any chance at all?” Yu Miao asked again.
“I’m looking!” The demolitions expert replied very loudly. It sounded very busy on her end, with dense keyboard tapping sounds. Two seconds later, the demolitions expert’s tone suddenly calmed down and she quickly asked, “Do you have a toolbox nearby?”
Yu Miao looked at the toolbox she had just taken from the bathroom and sighed somewhat helplessly: “I suppose I do, though I don’t know if it can be used.”
“Alright then, let’s assume it can be used for now. I’m about to lose control here. It’s too chaotic in the mansion, they’ll realize the security system is no longer secure sooner or later. I’m going to send a signal to everyone who can receive AI brain messages now, to buy you some time. In about three minutes, your area will be temporarily cleared. You’ll have at most one minute. After one minute, leave that place immediately to rendezvous with us at the back door, whether successful or not, otherwise you’ll be exposed. Understood?”
Yu Miao took a light breath, her gaze becoming determined. One minute – it seemed the time had come when she must make an attempt.
Yu Miao raised her wrist to look at the time: “Three minutes, I’m starting the countdown now.”
“I haven’t even started sending the message yet! Who exactly are you training here?!” The demolitions expert sent out the message while having a meltdown.
Three minutes later, the people around the central pillar on the first floor did gradually decrease. Yu Miao took a light breath, and after making sure there was no one to the left or right, she picked up the bathroom maintenance toolbox beside her and rushed out.
The action ran into a problem from the first step – the bathroom toolbox was indeed incompatible with the electrical box and couldn’t open the transfer hub. Fortunately, the demolitions expert had remotely cracked the mechanical lock on the transfer hub in advance. Yu Miao forcibly pried open the electrical box door with the tools.
10 seconds passed.
Inside the transfer hub was a complex layout of electrical facilities and hardware equipment, densely packed and almost half a person tall, very deep. At a glance, the hidden intelligence couldn’t be found at all. Even though Yu Miao was mentally prepared, she couldn’t help but take a light breath.
In a place like this, it was unlikely to be conspicuous paper documents that were difficult to hide. Moreover, that kind of thing wasn’t easy to carry. The most likely options were things like chips, storage devices, or magnetic cards – small in size, easy to carry, and conveniently placed in the security system’s own transfer hub to avoid the security system’s scans.
Then it’s likely something like that. When they hid the items, they were probably already suspected, so it would be difficult to hide the intelligence very deeply under the surveillance of the security system. It should still be in an accessible location.
Yu Miao turned on her flashlight and carefully illuminated the depths of the transfer hub, putting on gloves and reaching in to feel the backs of the hardware components.
Twenty seconds, thirty seconds – time passed quickly. The demolition expert started urging through the earpiece: “Time’s almost up, the delay is shorter than expected. Retreat now!”
“No. It’s unlikely to be deeper in,” Yu Miao didn’t leave, straining to extend her arm and using a makeup mirror to reflect the interior of the transfer hub, trying to find the hidden intelligence. “It must be right here!”
“Forget about the intelligence, you’ll be discovered if you delay any longer!”
“One last try, I’m about to, Found it!”
In the last few seconds, Yu Miao’s peripheral vision caught a chip stuck to the electrical box. Without thinking, she immediately removed the chip, while her other hand hastily stuffed the tools that had fallen beside her into the toolbox.
“Hurry, hurry! Someone’s coming!”
Urged on by the demolition expert’s voice, Yu Miao quickly grabbed the toolbox and closed the transfer hub door with one hand.
The mechanical lock clicked shut, and Yu Miao turned to run back towards the bathroom she had come from.
A second before the panicked servants running back into the villa could see down the hallway to the C03 transfer hub, Yu Miao successfully avoided everyone and returned to the bathroom where she had initially hidden. She leaned against the wall with one hand, catching her breath after the sprint.
“Okay, okay, you’re safe now, right? I can’t hold on any longer here, I’ll be trapped if I don’t leave now. You know the way, right? I’m leaving now, we’ll rendezvous at the back door, okay?”
After leaving this message in the earpiece, the demolition expert cut off contact, sounding as if she had already escaped from the control center.
If the demolition expert was leaving, she should have arranged her own route, and the woman responsible for bringing out the undercover agents must have already evacuated with the two unconscious people. So now – it was just her left.
Yu Miao looked at the chip in her hand, took a small breath, and carefully put away the little device.
Hopefully it would be useful. If it really was valuable, it might lure out more people, making her risk worthwhile.
The last message received in the earpiece was to rendezvous at the back door. Yu Miao roughly knew which back door it was. The mayor’s mansion floor plan, which had been somewhat forgotten, became clear again during this operation. All the information came together, mapping out a secluded route in her mind that could avoid crowds.
After adjusting her clothes once more, Yu Miao stood up and looked left and right down the hallway. She slightly lowered her head to reduce her presence and walked briskly towards the back door, just like a real passing servant.
Originally, Yu Miao’s route would definitely have allowed her to reach the back door through the first floor, but the hotel’s banquet preparation team seemed to be gathering staff for an internal inspection.
While avoiding crowds, Yu Miao saw several people wearing uniforms similar to hers hurrying towards the direction of the banquet hall – the position where she and the other two had been not long ago, squatting to arrange wine bottles in the preparation area.
The bodyguard teams in the villa were still searching everywhere for the cause of the explosion, occasionally appearing to scan faces. If she continued on her original route, she might be caught.
Yu Miao paused slightly, took a few steps back, and slipped into the deeper part of the hallway where she was less likely to be noticed.
The planned route was definitely not feasible now. She needed to think about how to leave the interior of the villa and get outside.
Perhaps…
Yu Miao recalled the structure of this villa and suddenly remembered that the second floor was another transfer center for this villa, with both a spiral staircase leading directly from the second-floor collection room to the fourth-floor bedrooms and an elevator that went straight to the young miss’s private underground garage.
The second floor was all the young miss’s private collections, and even at a time like this, it probably wouldn’t be thoroughly searched. It might still be safe. She could sneak into the second-floor collection room and then escape through the young miss’s private garage.
The explosion had started early, so the banquet hadn’t yet reached its latter half. The second floor, which had been arranged as a rest area, wouldn’t have many people and wouldn’t be a focus for inspection. Now was a good time to go.
Yu Miao took a light breath, raised her hand to confirm that all her data was still with her, then turned and snuck up to the second floor.
After reaching the second floor, go straight, then turn left. After seeing a one-way transparent glass wall, that’s the collection room.
Now she needed to find a way in. Logically, the collection room would be locked, but the password here wouldn’t be as complex as the security system’s control center. She was confident she could crack the password based on the information she had.
Just as Yu Miao was concentrating on trying to crack the password, a door suddenly opened in one of the rooms on the second floor, which she had thought would be empty.
Yu Miao’s body stiffened, and her fingers hovering over the password door instantly froze.
Yu Miao was waiting for the reaction of the person behind her, but the person who had suddenly opened the door didn’t move, just standing at the doorway looking at Yu Miao.
Just as Yu Miao was steeling herself to go over and knock the person out, the person finally spoke, saying something irrelevant: “You, you’re not a staff member arranged by the banquet planning team, are you?”
“!!” Yu Miao’s pupils contracted, and a thin layer of sweat suddenly appeared on her back. “What are you saying? I don’t understand. I am indeed an employee of the Lexie Hotel, Miss Su Man called me here.”
The woman behind her chuckled lightly, seeming quite amused: “Stop pretending. If there was someone like you in the banquet team, I wouldn’t have missed it. You think I’m like the others, here for the first time?”
Yu Miao paused again, finally too lazy to continue the act, and turned to look at the other person.
She didn’t recognize her.
A very young woman, fairly good-looking, but with a strangely unpleasant expression.
The person swept her gaze over Yu Miao’s face with a covetous look that Yu Miao was very familiar with, walking towards Yu Miao while chuckling and speaking: “Who are you? An assassin, a mercenary? Or a thief? The explosion just now was your doing too, right? Should I call someone to come see who you are?”
Disgusting.
Yu Miao expressed her disgust in her mind while keeping a cold face, retreating while secretly hiding one hand behind her back.
The things she had prepared earlier had been mostly used up in the basement, and now she had basically no means to deal with this person. She didn’t know the other’s capabilities either, wondering if it was possible to fight.
Yu Miao’s gaze swept over the other’s wrist, but the next second, her intention was noticed by the other party.
“Want to run?” The woman smiled and raised her hand, rolling up her sleeve to reveal the smooth muscle lines on her forearm, threatening while offering bait, “Actually, I don’t care much about my uncle’s affairs, and whether there’s an explosion is just a small matter, they can still handle it. Relatively speaking, you don’t necessarily have to be caught and sent to prison.”
“What do you mean?” Yu Miao slowly frowned, her expression turning ugly.
“Look at you, why so fierce? It’s not like I’m the thief,” the woman chuckled lightly, her gaze sweeping over Yu Miao’s entire body, “Isn’t it good to be with me? You can have the money you want, and you don’t have to go to prison. What’s wrong with coming to keep me company?”
Yu Miao’s face turned cold, just about to say ‘go to hell’, when her peripheral vision suddenly caught someone behind the woman. Seeing the person who suddenly appeared, Yu Miao’s expression subtly changed for a moment. She paused for two seconds, then asked in a strange tone, “You’re really willing to give up exposing me? And help me avoid punishment?”
“Of course,” the woman thought Yu Miao was tempted, raising her hand to pull Yu Miao, promising solemnly, “As long as you’re with me, I’ll be your alibi. Even if my uncle wants to pursue responsibility, he won’t bother with my lover. What do you think?”
“I think…” Yu Miao smiled lightly, dodging backward, directly shaking off the other’s hand and pushing her, saying with a cold smile, ” I think it’s better for you to just die.”
“What?”
The mayor’s niece was stunned for a moment, her brows suddenly furrowing tightly. She seemed about to say something unpleasant, but the next second she was knocked to the ground by a heavy blow from behind. Then she felt a pain in the back of her neck, and the thought of calling for help immediately dissipated, her consciousness sinking into a dark abyss.
