- When the Possessive Omega Fell for Me
- Chapter 43.1 - Are You Really Willing to Give Up Exposing Me?
The banquet in the main hall was still ongoing, but the banquet preparation team had quietly lost three people.
Everyone else in the hotel was working intensely, no one had time to look for colleagues, so no one noticed that a few extra people had appeared in the control center hidden in the secret space on the third floor.
“I’m impressed you were able to find this place.” The demolitions expert patted the wall with some emotion.
They were now in a room that felt like it had a very high ceiling. Transparent walls separated the two ends of the room – the inner side housed the control center’s AI brain, while the outer side had those complex verification procedures – this was the control center for the mayor’s mansion security system.
Yu Miao had just led them in using a master key, pushing through all the way, and was now querying data on the AI brain.
“I thought this would be that old guy’s study, didn’t expect he’d hide the control center here,” said the demolitions expert.
“Mm.” Yu Miao responded casually, not really paying much attention to her.
All of her focus was on the screen in front of her. There were so many files – where were the crime records, illegal transaction records, and underground experiment records she was looking for?
“Haven’t found the location yet?” The demolitions expert finished looking around the environment inside and out, and came over to bother Yu Miao again.
“Still looking.” Yu Miao frowned as she replied.
Massive file directories scrolled past in front of her. Yu Miao didn’t have time to discern which file names under those directories recorded the mayor’s gray businesses. The only thing she could rely on was her memories from her past life.
But last time, Yu Miao wasn’t directly handling files on the front lines either, so her familiarity with these directories was limited.
Several sections were working simultaneously on the oversized screen. The upper right corner showed surveillance footage constantly switching between all the cameras in the mayor’s mansion, trying to find the location where the organization’s undercover agents were being held. The lower left corner showed the file exchange records of all public and private accounts within the mayor’s mansion that Yu Miao was currently browsing.
The remaining two sections were running the AI brain’s basic programs. Each line of code represented new information collected by one of the security system’s “tentacles” spread throughout the villa, with the AI brain itself analyzing and judging this information.
A red error box popped up while Yu Miao was urgently searching for files. After glancing at it, she decisively selected the “ignore” option.
“What was that?” suddenly asked the woman skilled in combat but who rarely spoke.
“Ah, it’s an error message for the distributed weapon launch points, not anything important,” said the demolitions expert.
“Right,” Yu Miao’s gaze continued scanning back and forth across the large screen as she answered the woman’s question, “The distributed weapon launch points reported an error, the AI brain popped up the default program to issue a warning message, which I intercepted. It’s not a big deal, we have other things to do, no time to waste.”
As she was speaking, Yu Miao suddenly found her biggest target for this operation.
A familiar project name flashed by among the rapidly scrolling file names. Yu Miao caught it in an extremely short time, quickly selected and copied it to the storage device she had brought.
“Hm? Is that something very important?” The demolitions expert took two steps forward to look at the big screen, muttering to herself in confusion, “Isn’t it just a very ordinary experimental project?”
“Found the people.” Yu Miao didn’t answer the demolitions expert’s question, quickly copying the selected files while multitasking to press another button on the control panel, stopping the constantly jumping surveillance footage.
The four camera views on the screen showed a room on the second basement level from different angles. Two people who looked like organization personnel were being temporarily held in that room.
The detained people looked to be in pretty bad shape. Their hands were bound, heads hanging low with poor spirits, and there were some undried bloodstains on their bodies, suggesting they had experienced some inhumane treatment.
The brutal situation successfully diverted everyone’s attention. The demolitions expert, who had been curious just a second ago, now had a fierce expression as she looked at the bloodstains on her comrades’ bodies, slamming her palm on the edge of the AI brain’s control panel in front of her.
“Calm down.” Without looking at those images again, Yu Miao removed the storage device she had brought, quickly crouched down to put the storage device into an inner pocket of her clothing, then swiftly took out the last few items from the bag she had been carrying all along.
They were some cylindrical objects like syringes, which Yu Miao tucked into the thigh holster under her newly changed server uniform skirt.
After doing this, Yu Miao straightened her clothes and said: “Rescuing people is the top priority now. There will be plenty of opportunities to make these human rights violators pay once we get the information, but if you break the AI brain it will all be for nothing.”
“Got it,” the demolitions expert reined in her emotions and gave Yu Miao a complicated look, “When did you bring all this stuff?”
“I’m not from the same system as you, it’s normal for me to prepare some things myself, right?” Yu Miao didn’t directly answer the demolitions expert’s question, instead connecting another storage device to the AI brain’s interface and operating the panel buttons to separately list out about a dozen file directories. “I just looked through these, most of the projects under these categories seem a bit problematic, maybe we can find something. Transfer all of them to storage. We need to go down to rescue people now, I’ll leave you to keep an eye on the situation in the mansion.”
The demolitions expert nodded at those files Yu Miao had marked: “Understood, be careful you two.”
Yu Miao and the woman skilled in combat but who rarely spoke exchanged a glance, then turned and walked out of the control center together.
The large screen in the control center could show the movements of everyone in the entire mansion, while also having access rights to all electronic locks and semi-mechanical locks. The communication earpieces they had brought along earlier finally came in handy. The three of them could exchange messages through those earpieces. The demolitions expert in the control center gave Yu Miao and her temporary partner the green light, easily helping them avoid crowds and sneak into the location where the captives were being held.
It was on the second basement level of the mansion. Below the underground room that was originally decorated as an entertainment room, another floor of space had been opened up. If not for using a specific elevator, there would be no way to sneak in.
When they discovered that the mayor’s house actually had this kind of layout, both the demolitions expert and the woman skilled in combat were very angry. For a government official to build this kind of prison in their private residence and even find tech companies to help perfect the security system, the disgusting privilege behind it was truly chilling.
Yu Miao adapted well though, not saying much.
These two hadn’t yet seen the truly dark things that make people feel hopeless and powerless to resist.
The space on the second basement level wasn’t very large. After passing through a short corridor, the end split into two different cells on either side. One was empty, while the other held the target individuals they were here to rescue.
The door locks and shackles restraining the captives weren’t much of a problem, as the demolitions expert could open them directly from the control center. The real trouble was the four people guarding the door. These four couldn’t be easily sent away by the control center, and they also carried communication devices to contact the outside at any time. To take them out, it had to be done quickly and decisively.
The problem was that these four people weren’t gathered together. Two were behind the thick metal door, while the other two guarded outside. Even if they could quickly take out the people outside, the guards inside might seize the opportunity to pass information to others.
“Need to find an opportunity.” Yu Miao made a hand gesture to the combat-skilled woman beside her.
The combat-skilled woman nodded, indicating she understood.
But how to find an opportunity. Yu Miao raised her eyes, scanning around the second basement level, trying to find some point they could break through.
It wasn’t just the issue of infiltrating now – they would also need a big enough commotion to escape when withdrawing, otherwise one of their two separated groups would definitely get trapped in this mansion.
What exactly should they do?
Before Yu Miao could come up with a plan, a strange sound suddenly transmitted from the direction above, accompanied by slight vibrations.
Yu Miao was stunned for a moment and looked at the combat-skilled woman beside her. The other woman seemed equally confused.
Apparently it wasn’t just her imagination.
What on earth was going on?
Before Yu Miao could think of any conclusions, a more violent tremor suddenly came through the walls, almost making it impossible to stand steady. This was followed by explosion sounds like muffled thunder, near to far, seeming to be a series of chain explosions.
Yu Miao looked at the combat-skilled woman beside her in utter shock.
Who did this?? The demolitions expert? What was she making such a big commotion for, had she gone crazy??
The next second, chaotic footsteps and door-opening sounds suddenly came from deep in the corridor. It seemed someone had come out of the room, loudly asking what was happening outside, what had occurred.
An opportunity!
Although the confusion hadn’t been resolved, Yu Miao had already rushed out into the corridor together with the combat-skilled woman—
Exclamations and questioning didn’t stop for a moment. The explosive wind swept in from the corridor and open doors, messing up the interior decorations and toppling the champagne tower in the middle of the banquet. Fortunately, the intense light and shock waves from the explosion were blocked by the walls, and it seemed no one had been injured so far.
Yi Jing, who had just returned to the first floor, turned to look in the direction of the explosion, still holding a glass of champagne she had taken from a waiter, with a somewhat surprised expression.
She had anticipated there would be an explosion, just not that it would be so severe.
Good thing the distributed weapon launch points didn’t have much weaponry in stock, otherwise wouldn’t the mayor’s mansion have been blown sky high?
The banquet hall was in chaos. Waiters ran back and forth trying their best to tidy up the hall to prevent broken champagne glass shards from injuring the distinguished guests. The invited media swarmed forward like sharks that had smelled blood. The soon-to-be-former mayor’s face was ashen, but he still had to quickly reassure the guests. Meanwhile, some people who were neither frightened by the explosion nor had their interests tied to the mayor seemed a bit too indifferent.
For example, the instigator Yi Jing, and the uninvolved Hubert who was keeping aloof from the matter.
For some unknown reason, this woman always liked to drift towards Yi Jing. Within two seconds after the explosion, she had meandered over to Yi Jing’s side. While sipping the red wine in her hand, she said: “That really was quite an explosion. Not too early, not too late, happening right at this moment. It seems our mayor’s home is even more lively than you or I imagined.”
“Who knows?” Yi Jing frowned, looking towards the corridor direction again before reluctantly withdrawing her gaze, “But there’s no need to be too happy, right? With something like this happening, won’t you and I have to work overtime again?”
She had just seen a few people dressed as bodyguards run out from the banquet. She didn’t know how much longer she could stand here chatting idly with Hubert.
Hopefully that time-delay bomb she made was good enough to help clear her of suspicion. She didn’t want to end up in jail in this book world.
Speaking of which, she also didn’t know if the explosion was thorough enough to eliminate potential dangers. She hoped Yu Miao was alright.
On the second basement level, in a direction completely opposite to what Yi Jing imagined, Yu Miao was cooperating with her temporary partner beside her to take down four security guards.
Q really didn’t give her any useless people when saying she had assigned all the most suitable personnel.
At the moment of the explosion just now, the huge noise attracted the attention of the guards inside. The four people rarely appeared outside the room at the same time. Yu Miao and the person beside her rushed out almost simultaneously. The person beside her was unexpectedly good at fighting, striking very viciously. Ignoring the other side’s warnings, she took down three people in the blink of an eye.
The last person was too far for that woman to attack in time, and he nearly managed to dodge her gunshot. At the critical moment, Yu Miao, who was standing slightly further away, hit the target with one shot – using a short-range tranquilizer gun with strong impact force that automatically injected upon hitting the target, enough to knock out a cheetah.
“You…” That woman who rarely spoke turned back with some surprise, her gaze sweeping over the gun in Yu Miao’s hand as her expression changed in astonishment, “The gun in your hand doesn’t seem to be a standard issue.”
“You don’t need to worry about that.” Yu Miao answered softly, catching her breath as she lowered the short-range tranquilizer gun in her hand. She flipped her wrist to block the gun body, tucking it back into the holster under her skirt. Then she felt for three disposable injection syringes from the holster on the other side, removed the air plugs and injected them in turn into the three security guards who had been taken down.
“What are these?” asked the usually silent woman.
“Hallucinogen, anesthetic, mental disorientation agent.” Yu Miao put away the used syringes and stood up, walking towards the direction of the ‘prison’. “Anyway, they’re things to make them sleep longer so they won’t interfere.”
“Good good good good! Whatever they are, as long as they’re useful,” the demolitions expert’s voice sounded in the earpiece, her tone seeming a bit over-excited, “To treat our people like this! They deserve it! I just checked, what exploded was the distributed weapon launch point in the northeast of the mayor’s mansion security system. Although we don’t know why it exploded yet, this explosion has helped us anyway. Currently the people in the mayor’s mansion have gone to investigate the cause of the explosion. I’m operating the AI brain to respond to their inquiries and can still delay for a while. You two hurry and take advantage of the chaos to get the people out and exit the second basement level.”
“Understood.”
Yu Miao entered the ‘prison’ that the demolitions expert had remotely opened along with her temporary partner, just in time to see the shackles restraining the two people being unlocked by the AI brain’s command. The temporary partner immediately ran over to catch those two people.
“Hey, hey. How are you? Can you still speak?”
Neither Yu Miao nor that woman were very skilled in medicine. Yu Miao did understand some basic clinical medicine, but it obviously wasn’t very applicable in the current scenario. They could only do a simple check of the two people’s vital signs. After confirming there were no major issues, they prepared to take the people out.
