When A Commoner Carries The Child Of A Stranger Alpha - Chapter 7
Whether the warning actually worked or not, Aethelis was much better behaved while giving the injection.
She seemed to have no leverage against her own father. Stopping her sharp attempts at persuasion, she shifted the topic to strike up a conversation with Shen Buqi.
“Brother Xiao Shen, do you have any plans to move to another district?”
Shen Buqi shook his head. Realizing she was focusing on the injection and couldn’t see him, he had to speak up:
“No, the 7th District is pretty good. Besides, how do you know me?”
Aethelis let out a soft laugh. “Don’t underestimate yourself. Who in the 7th District doesn’t know you? You’re fierce in a fight and a hard worker. I’m actually a little fangirl of yours.”
Pulling out the needle, she suddenly blinked at Shen Buqi. “I heard you’re a Beta. What do you think? Want to consider me?”
Seeing Ji Weishi’s face darken with displeasure, she grew even more smug, adding suggestively, “Though Betas aren’t as soft as Omegas, they are still more than enough compared to Alphas. Plus, I’m a woman.”
Ji Weishi couldn’t be bothered to pay her any mind. He merely looked up at Shen Buqi, his eyes rimmed with red, looking exactly like someone terrified of being abandoned.
Without him needing to say a word, Shen Buqi’s heart ached with intense pity.
His already cold, handsome face frosted over completely. “Please stop joking, or don’t blame me for being impolite.”
Aethelis shrugged. “You really know how to put on an act.”
She didn’t specify who she was talking about, so Shen Buqi couldn’t easily snap back.
Ji Weishi, who was sitting down for the injection, didn’t seem annoyed by her words at all. Instead, as if to validate her statement, he shrank back and hid into Shen Buqi’s embrace behind him.
Shen Buqi hastily caught him, gently soothing him. He couldn’t quite describe the feeling in his heart, it was like green plum juice overflowing, both sweet and sour.
Within this sensation, he felt almost tipsy.
It’s so wonderful, he thought. He truly has an Alpha of his own now.
It brought him the same joy as when he first got his own mecha or his own cat, but the emotion this time seemed far more intense than either of those occasions.
Because his mecha could only sing, and his cat could only meow, but A-Shi… A-Shi could do everything.
Of course, there was also a hint of selfishness involved.
A-Shi was the most beautiful.
He was like a rose, but a hundred times more beautiful than any rose.
Therefore, raising A-Shi required a hundred times more care than tending to a rose.
Shen Buqi secretly vowed to take good care of his Alpha. Once Ji Weishi finished his injection, he went to the doctor to get various medications.
Looking at the nearly emptied medicine chest, Aethelis was utterly shocked. “What a terrible waste of precious resources…”
Meanwhile, Ji Weishi followed behind Shen Buqi, who was carrying the medicine, and walked home with triumphant, smug steps.
Upon returning home, Mimi had already hidden near the wall, meowing and growling non-stop. Its tail was puffed up to twice its normal size.
At a total loss, Shen Buqi wanted to pick Mimi up. But Mimi, who was usually very good-natured, was acting exceptionally abnormal today for some unknown reason, refusing to even be touched.
Deeply distressed, he looked toward Ji Weishi in conflict. Ji Weishi immediately spoke up with understanding comfort:
“Mimi’s condition doesn’t look too good. We can wait a few days before moving.”
Shen Buqi wavered. Naturally, he didn’t want Ji Weishi to suffer in this wretched place, but to make him abandon Mimi… he couldn’t bring himself to do that either.
Seeing him lost in thought, dissatisfaction flared within Ji Weishi’s heart, yet his face grew even more insistent on persuading him to stay. “Let’s just leave it at this. I’m really fine. Anything is fine with me.”
He didn’t sound particularly happy when he spoke, but as fate would have it, the moment the words left his mouth, waves of dry heat began to spread from Ji Weishi’s scent gland. Pain began to crawl out from the depths of his bone marrow, surging through his limbs and bones.
Ordinarily, Ji Weishi would never expose a vulnerability so casually. But today was different. Since he had already decided to make this person head over heels for him and willingly reveal his secrets, a timely show of weakness was absolutely indispensable.
He instantly let out a soft gasp, swaying as if he were about to collapse.
Shen Buqi’s movements were incomparably faster than usual. He caught him almost instantly. However, the Alpha’s frame was too tall and slender, so he barely managed to keep him upright by half-hugging and half-supporting him.
What was even more terrifying was that the moment he reached out, he felt the scorching heat radiating from Ji Weishi. It felt as though he had been baked under a scorching sun for a long time, his whole body was scalding hot.
Anxiety gripped Shen Buqi. His black, peach-blossom eyes stretched with frantic worry, tilting upward as if he were on the verge of tears.
He searched through the medicines he had just brought back to find something edible. After flipping through them multiple times, he pulled out fever reducers and cold medicine.
Ji Weishi sat obediently, letting the crimson veins creep over the whites of his eyes.
Seeing Shen Buqi bring the medicine over, he shook his head. “It’s fine. I’m not sick, Xiao Yi.”
He dragged out the final syllable softly, like a cat’s paw playfully swiping without coming to a halt.
He added:
“I am in my susceptibility period.”
Susceptibility period?
This was entirely within Shen Buqi’s blind spot of knowledge.
He blinked and asked, “What is a susceptibility period?”
Ji Weishi: ?
The question was rather poorly timed, yet Ji Weishi felt an inexplicable wave of comfort in his heart.
To not even know what a susceptibility period was ruling out the possibility that this person was playing dumb, meant that he at least had never had an Alpha partner before.
Ji Weishi had never felt himself to be so strange. To think his emotions could be so easily swayed by someone he had just met a day ago.
Even though he was adept at deceiving himself, at this moment, he could no longer attribute all these anomalies solely to pheromones and the susceptibility period.
Ultimately, he could only arrive at one answer.
This Beta was far too skilled at manipulating human hearts.
Even he could not escape it.
He smiled. The crimson receded, replaced by a misty, faint red rimming his eyes as he replied, “It’s a special phenomenon unique to Alphas. We feel very miserable during this time…”
He spoke as if it were somewhat difficult to put into words, yet also as if he were begging for something:
“We need the comfort and care of a partner.”
Clatter. The fever medicine in Shen Buqi’s hand dropped to the floor.
His initially slightly curved peach-blossom eyes widened completely round, even rounder than the startled Mimi in the corner.
“A partner?” His voice trembled slightly. “Then what should we do? Can I suffice?”
An obvious question asked on purpose.
This wasn’t a matter of just any partner, an ordinary Alpha’s susceptibility period required the soothing comfort of a marked Omega.
Ji Weishi had intentionally phrased it this way to test Shen Buqi’s attitude. Seeing his reaction, which indeed resembled a completely blank sheet of paper, he finally felt a bit more satisfied.
He proceeded to gently shake Shen Buqi’s arm. “It should work, right? I don’t know either. I don’t have a partner. This is my first susceptibility period since reaching adulthood.”
An ordinary Alpha’s susceptibility period occurred once every three months, counting from their adult differentiation.
Ji Weishi was still testing, testing whether this Beta actually knew he was an S-class Alpha, and testing what intentions he ultimately harbored toward him.
Without a second thought, Shen Buqi pulled the man directly into his embrace, stroking Ji Weishi using the same method he usually used to rub Mimi.
Not too hard, not too soft, his fingertips brushed across the back, bringing an itchy sensation. Ji Weishi’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He could barely control the urge to reach out and grip the waist before him, wanting to tightly restrain this Beta.
He told himself to keep his composure.
Then, he silently anticipated the Beta’s next move.
Would it be a kiss?
Or would he directly let him mark him?
The word “mark” was still rather distant for Ji Weishi. He was young; because an S-class Alpha awakened early, he had been officially serving the Alliance since he was fourteen.
He would only turn twenty after this summer.
He possessed abundant combat experience, but he had never been close to an Omega.
Ji Weishi used to think he would probably never look for a partner, not only because his position was too dangerous, but also because there were no Omegas capable of matching an S-class Alpha.
The entire Alliance had only one S-class Omega, who was thirty years older than him.
And that Omega was constantly being fought over by several other S-class Alphas.
He found them ridiculous. What was the use of possessing immense power if they couldn’t even break free from those low-level fleshly desires?
Yet now, he actually felt a slight urge to mark someone.
This person wasn’t even an Omega. He was merely a slightly prettier Beta, a Beta so mediocre that, in the past, Ji Weishi could have killed tens of thousands of his kind without batting an eye.
How unfortunate that this was merely a deception born of pheromones.
It wasn’t that he had fallen in love with this person.
Otherwise…
Ji Weishi stopped himself from thinking further, only to hear the person in his arms ask, “Are you feeling better?”
The patch of skin pressed closely against him was trembling.
A voice clamored inside his head. A little more. How could just this much be enough? You are an Alpha; you need a vast amount of closeness and soothing.
On the surface, however, he calmly released his hold. A pale, weak smile was etched onto his face. “I’m fine now.”
His long eyelashes trembled slightly, like a butterfly fluttering its wings.
Unable to restrain himself, Shen Buqi tightly hugged the Alpha again, as if catching a butterfly about to fly away:
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
He could no longer care about Mimi in the corner. Perhaps it was a case of abandoning the old for the new, but his entire heart and mind were now filled with the person before him.
The susceptibility period must be so agonizing, right? How can he stay in such a dilapidated place?
No rose could survive out in the wild when the wind and rain arrived.
Except that wasn’t a rose, it was a beast.
Thinking this, Shen Buqi packed up all their belongings and looked firmly at Ji Weishi. “A-Shi, we are moving right now.”
An affirmative declaration was always best.
The corners of Ji Weishi’s lips curled upward, but the corners of his eyes drooped even lower. “But Mimi…”
“I’ll come back to check on it. We’ll bring it over when it’s feeling better,” Shen Buqi interrupted Ji Weishi.
Ji Weishi narrowed his eyes, ultimately saying nothing more.
When moving, Shen Buqi became even more cautious. He moved all their belongings over first, then ran back to bundle Ji Weishi up tightly.
“A-Shi, there are a lot of people outside. Could you put on a mask first?” Shen Buqi panted, his hands trembling as he put the mask on Ji Weishi.
Capturing this vital piece of information, Ji Weishi sneered coldly in his heart:
They really are relentless. Directly sending people to meddle in the 7th District… aren’t they afraid of retaliation from that person in the Alliance after breaking the agreement?
Just as they stepped outside, acid rain began to fall. Shen Buqi felt relieved that he had fed Ji Weishi the blocker medicine in advance.
Once this acid rain started, likely combined with the opening of gates in other districts, not a single person remained on the streets.
He relaxed slightly.
He looked like a dragon that had carefully sniffed the surroundings to confirm it was safe before safely moving its treasure.
Right as they turned a corner, a sudden mutation occurred. A remarkably beautiful, long-haired man abruptly appeared in front of them.
He was very tall, only slightly shorter than Ji Weishi and he was extremely thin and pale. The wrist he extended first resembled a drift of snow, startlingly white.
It formed a sharp contrast with his dark golden eyes, which gleamed in the rain. His voice sounded as though it had been soaked in cold water, terrifyingly devoid of emotion.
“Ji Weishi, long time no see.”
His next sentence carried a hint of mocking benevolence.
“I’ll give you a chance. Are you going to beg me?”
