When A Commoner Carries The Child Of A Stranger Alpha - Chapter 8
The moment the words left his mouth, Shen Buqi immediately took a step forward.
It was this exact step that made the other man furrow his brows. “Are you a Beta?” he asked.
A flash of doubt crossed Shen Buqi’s eyes. Just as he was about to say something, Ji Weishi answered from behind him, “Qin Che, does that have anything to do with you? Or is it that your habit of falling in love at first sight hasn’t changed?”
The man called Qin Che scanned Shen Buqi with an inquisitive gaze. As if realization hit him, he took a step forward, leaning closer to the back of Shen Buqi’s neck.
When he was still ten centimeters away, Ji Weishi’s fist swept in with the force of the wind. Qin Che hastily retreated, barely dodging it, and raised his hand to counterattack.
The acid rain, deadly to ordinary people, acted like a catalyst for these two S-class Alphas. They traded blows back and forth, though both were holding back their full strength, neither showed any mercy.
Shen Buqi had every intention of stepping in to help Ji Weishi, but their movements were simply too fast. Fearing that a reckless intervention might accidentally injure Ji Weishi instead, he had no choice but to stay back.
Perhaps realizing that Ji Weishi was entering his susceptibility period, Qin Che was the first to withdraw his hands. He remarked, “A word of advice, since you’re in your susceptibility period, don’t push yourself so hard.”
Ji Weishi stopped immediately after, asking with a faint, mocking smile, “And what do you want me to do?”
Qin Che adjusted his collar, looked at his surroundings, and suddenly sighed.
Without saying another word, he actually turned and walked straight away.
This time, not only Shen Buqi, but even Ji Weishi was left bewildered as to what this Protector of District 1 was trying to pull.
Ultimately, it remained a minor interlude. It wasn’t until they arrived at the newly purchased manor and settled their belongings that Shen Buqi belatedly thought to ask Ji Weishi who that man back there actually was.
Yet before he could open his mouth, Ji Weishi, who had been obediently leaning against the headboard drinking water fed to him, spoke first. “He’s a former colleague.”
He blinked, looking incredibly sincere. “I used to be in a different district. Because I worked in human expansion zone exploration, I got to know a lot of Alphas, and he was one of them.”
“But later, during an exploration in a newly discovered expansion zone,” Ji Weishi paused for a long time, seemingly building up the emotional strength to recount a painful memory, “because we were a team, a few of the others wanted to kill me so they could monopolize the credit.”
“He was the leader on paper, but he couldn’t control his subordinates. Plus, he didn’t really like me, so he just turned a blind eye and watched them dump me here.”
As he spoke, Ji Weishi snuggled deeper into Shen Buqi’s embrace. “Xiao Yi, if it weren’t for you, I would have definitely died.”
Now, it was Shen Buqi’s turn to feel embarrassed. He stammered, “No, no, that’s not true. When I went to buy the medicine, you had already recovered on your own. It had nothing to do with me.”
The moment the words left his mouth, he regretted them. Great. Now that I’ve said this, Ah Shi definitely won’t want to stay anymore.
If only I knew. If only I knew, I would have let him believe I saved his life.
Granted, that would be quite unprincipled.
But it certainly would have been effective.
Ji Weishi, however, shook his head. “No, you did save me.”
He was desperate to forge a bond between the two of them.
Whether it was because he wanted to probe the secrets hidden within this man, or because he was simply greedy for the tenderness of the present moment, he himself could no longer tell.
The scent of a newly blossoming lotus drifted over again in faint, continuous threads. It was so rich that it caused him to completely let his guard down, allowing this Beta before him to soothe his susceptibility period.
The two embraced during the lingering rainy season. In a sense, it could be considered lingering romance.
Before falling asleep, Ji Weishi thought to himself: If there comes a day when the secrets this Beta holds exceed my expectations, then… I will grant him a quick and painless death.
In the evening, Shen Buqi had to go to the public cafeteria to buy food again. Since the feverish surge of Ji Weishi’s susceptibility period had passed, he clung to Shen Buqi, insisting on going along.
Shen Buqi hesitated, deliberating his words carefully. “A-Shi, I heard from the shop owner that people from other districts are currently looking for an Alpha outside. I’m afraid it might be your colleagues searching for you.”
He spoke tactfully, but his intent to refuse was obvious.
Ji Weishi licked his canine teeth, the tip of his tongue pressing against the sharp edge. His eyes reddened slightly as he tightly clutched the hem of Shen Buqi’s shirt. “I’m scared. That’s exactly why I’m afraid they’ll find me. If I follow Xiao Yi, Xiao Yi will definitely protect me, right?”
Leaning against the headboard, he looked like a royal princess from a medieval European painting, his face pale, the corners of his eyes drawn long and narrow.
Thinking it over, Shen Buqi decided this made sense.
So, he agreed to let him tag along.
Except, Ji Weishi had to wrap himself up like a mummy again.
Before setting off, he was fed a few more blocker pills.
Ji Weishi recognized the medicine. He thought to himself that this Beta truly had the potential to be a devout believer of the Holy Light Church, this medicine was incredibly expensive in District 7, yet he hadn’t blinked an eye before feeding six pills to someone he had just met.
Unfortunately, a body of his rank was virtually unaffected by natural disasters.
It was all a waste.
Though the rain had stopped along the way, the streets were emptier than ever.
Shen Buqi felt puzzled. Could everyone have gone to other districts? If so, wouldn’t the other districts be completely overcrowded?
A faint scent of blood wafted through the sticky air left in the wake of the acid rain, mingled with a subtle trace of toxic gas. Shen Buqi instinctively looked over at Ji Weishi, only relaxing when he saw that he was fine.
The public cafeteria was even emptier than before, and the server had changed. It was now a female Omega, who offered a gentle smile upon seeing Shen Buqi.
Shen Buqi took the menu and let Ji Weishi order for himself.
Ji Weishi hesitated, his finger sliding past the dishes at the top before resting on the salted fried rice at the very bottom. Just as he was about to speak, Shen Buqi frowned first.
“That one doesn’t taste good. You should eat these instead.”
Ji Weishi nodded, looking quite bashful. “Then can we eat the same thing? Let’s not eat those nutrient solutions anymore.”
Muddled by his sweetness, Shen Buqi nodded. He picked up the menu and said to the server, “We’ll take two portions of this Star Plucking Combo.”
The Omega was slightly taken aback but quickly composed herself. Smiling, she agreed and headed to the back kitchen to relay the order.
Taking advantage of the distance, the chef sneered, “That Alpha sure knows how to seduce people. Looks like Shen Buqi is completely smitten.”
The Omega altered her tone as well, her voice dripping with disdain. “He must be blind. Aside from that face, I can’t see anything good about him. You all really should go take a look.”
“But speaking of which, Brother Yuan was too foolish. He didn’t even recognize the only mecha mechanic in our District 7, and just had to go outside to see the world. Tsk, doesn’t he know how many people have died after going out? Getting beaten up but keeping his life can be considered lucky for him.”
Suddenly, her eyes darted around as she smiled maliciously. “I’d like to see just how much he likes this Alpha. Shi Xi, go cover the front for me in a bit.”
The man named Shi Xi agreed as he walked out. He possessed an exceptionally robust physique, standing two heads taller than the average person. His eyes were square shaped, bearing a resemblance to a wild beast.
Completely oblivious to the discussion regarding his relationship with Ji Weishi, Shen Buqi was focusing entirely on wiping down the cafeteria table and chairs.
Because Ji Weishi had expressed a desire to sit and eat here, he didn’t refuse, using paper towels to wipe the surfaces over and over again.
When it was time to serve the food, Shi Xi slammed two plates onto their table with a loud thud. Shen Buqi knit his brows. Upon seeing that the two dishes were entirely different, he stood up immediately and said, “This is the wrong order. Please change it.”
Shi Xi actually looked at him with a shred of newfound respect; he had assumed this person would go complain to the gentle looking Omega server from earlier.
He responded with a cold face. “It’s not the wrong order. Two Star Plucking Combos.”
It was a blatant, bare faced lie. Of the two portions of food, one was beautifully presented and practically glowing, while the other was covered in a thick layer of coarse salt crystals.
To say they didn’t look identical was an understatement, they bore absolutely no resemblance.
Shen Buqi’s patience wore thin. “Please exchange this for the meals we ordered.”
Shi Xi slammed his fist onto the table. The fragile wooden structure wobbled and collapsed instantly, kicking up a cloud of dust from the floor. The few remaining patrons in the cafeteria scattered like frightened birds, leaving the place completely deserted.
Taking a step forward, Shen Buqi quietly told Ji Weishi to step back to avoid getting accidentally hurt.
Then, walking up to Shi Xi, he asked, “Do you want to fight?”
Shi Xi countered, “You know how things work around here. It doesn’t matter what food you order, it matters whether you’re worthy of eating it. You eating the Star Plucking Combo? I have no objections. But as for this guy eating it… he might be lacking what it takes.”
His voice was gruff, dripping with heavy contempt.
District 7 was just like this, survival of the fittest. Money was quite useless because as long as you lived long enough and robbed enough, money would always be plenty.
However, when spending money, one still had to see if they were worthy.
The weak weren’t even worthy of eating a proper meal.
Without wasting words, Shen Buqi used momentum to deliver a swift kick.
Shi Xi hadn’t expected him to actually strike first. Caught off guard, he was left to dodge clumsily.
Standing to the side, Ji Weishi remained impassive. Originally, he had wanted to see how Shen Buqi would react, as for the fight itself, he hadn’t believed Shen Buqi could defeat this beast-mutant.
District 4 had also conducted experiments on mutants, but unfortunately, they had all ended in failure.
Human genetics were far too precise and miraculous. It wasn’t something where an ordinary mutant gene could just be spliced in at will. Their reckless experimentation had instead produced monsters that possessed human consciousness, spending their days twisting, writhing, and crawling inside the laboratories.
After Ji Weishi took power, he found it too repulsive and banned the practice entirely.
He hadn’t expected to encounter a successful product here in District 7.
He just didn’t know how his physical stats measured up.
With Shen Buqi testing the man’s physical combat prowess, Ji Weishi discreetly released his mental strength, intending to probe Shi Xi’s spiritual domain.
However, because Shi Xi was currently enduring a beating, his mental strength was naturally in a weakened state, causing him to retreat in total defeat under the pressure of Ji Weishi’s S-class mental energy.
Withdrawing his mental strength, Ji Weishi thought to himself: Nothing special. He’s not even as strong as a Beta. I have no idea why the Alliance went through all that trouble to develop such things. And he looks so hideous, it’s better to just kill him early.
To his surprise, within less than ten moves, Shi Xi was left lying flat on the ground.
This Beta is actually quite adept at fighting. Every step he took utilized clever leverage, and his movements were incredibly swift, often landing the next strike before the opponent could even process the first.
Seeing that the battle was decided, Ji Weishi took a few steps forward, acting incredibly clingy. “Xiao Yi, are you alright? I was so scared.”
Shen Buqi turned around and wrapped his arms around Ji Weishi’s waist, soothing him, “It’s fine. I’m here.”
Staring at the two of them, Shi Xi was consumed by pure hatred. When he was taking the beating just now, he could feel his spiritual domain on the verge of exploding. Shen Buqi’s physical blows were more than enough to overpower him, meaning there was no need to add a mental assault, it must have been that Alpha pulling the strings.
The Omega server rushed out just in time, her nose red as she cried, “Dear customers, we are terribly sorry! Our waiter was sick when he was a child, so his brain doesn’t function properly. Please show some leniency. Today’s meal is on the house, and we’d like to compensate you with a 90% off discount card. You can enjoy a 90% discount every time you visit in the future.”
Shen Buqi only wanted to satisfy Ji Weishi’s request. These matters were trivial to him, so he nodded and moved to sit at a different table.
Ji Weishi said regretfully, “What a shame. That prepared Star Plucking Combo is ruined now. It looked so beautiful, I wonder if it tastes good. Have you ever eaten it before, Xiao Yi?”
Shen Buqi nodded, then shook his head, explaining.
“I ordered it before, but the dish they served was salted fried rice.”
Ji Weishi’s gaze turned icy for a fraction of a second before quickly returning to normal. “Is that so… then why didn’t Xiao Yi exchange it back then?”
Shen Buqi looked completely perplexed by the question.
“I can eat anything. But A-Shi, didn’t you want both of us to eat the Star Plucking Combo?”
It seemed he simply, purely wanted to fulfill Ji Weishi’s request.
Regardless of whom the request was intended for, and regardless of whether that request was reasonable or not.
For the first time in a very long time, Ji Weishi felt his heart swelling.
