When A Commoner Carries The Child Of A Stranger Alpha - Chapter 16
As a doctor, Aethelis had already said enough. Unfortunately, Shen Buqi’s comprehension skills were lacking, and he began to let his mind wander from the very first sentence.
Did he still need to find an Omega?
Did an Alpha absolutely have to end up with an Omega?
Or was a Beta acceptable too, but he himself was the only exception because he lacked a second gender and couldn’t be marked?
The pain he had managed to talk himself out of a few days ago resurfaced.
For the first time, he felt a strange sense of sorrow over the deformity of his own body. In truth, he should have known long ago.
Being different from everyone else was always a bad thing.
Because he lacked a second gender, his parents had abandoned him to District 7. They probably detested him and never wanted to see him again for the rest of their lives. Yet, constrained by the so-called bonds of blood, they couldn’t bring themselves to kill him outright, so they dumped him in District 7 instead.
That way, under normal circumstances, he would die.
Even if an accident occurred and someone picked him up to raise him, they would still never have to see each other again.
Back when he was in school, a gentle female teacher discovered his anomaly. The pity in her eyes was something he had never seen before. She said, “Good child, you must live on well.”
Then, the very next day, she chose to commit suicide.
Even now, Shen Buqi could not forget that rainy day. The students were waiting for their mecha piloting class, but after waiting and waiting downstairs, the teacher never showed up.
Some of the physically weaker students had already started sneezing one after another. For some reason, high expectations were placed on Shen Buqi, and he was sent up to call the teacher down. The stairs were so high, but he climbed them quickly and nimbly pushed open the door.
And then, he locked eyes with a pair of wide-open eyes swimming in a pool of blood.
Those eyes, which had once been so bright, looked at him with endless sorrow.
Leaving behind nothing but gray.
From then on, Shen Buqi detested acting quickly. He deliberately slowed his pace in everything he did.
He grew to vaguely understand that a deviant body seemed to bring nothing but misfortune.
But did he feel grief?
Not really.
It was as if Shen Buqi had been born without emotions, the absence of a second gender had dimmed his feelings as well. He watched the operations of the world with a numb detachment.
The old woman wanted him to live, so he lived.
But as for why he was living, he had absolutely no idea.
He knew it was better to possess certain things, but he didn’t know why those things were better. He couldn’t even comprehend the concept of possessiveness.
Yet, even for a person like him, his chest now ached with a dull, throbbing pain.
Shen Buqi didn’t understand it, and he was still a bit dazed on his way home.
Suddenly, a hand appeared in front of him, blocking his path.
A beat too slow, he raised his head and locked eyes with a pair of sinister golden eyes.
They were a very beautiful pair of eyes, the outer corners turned upward, a classic pair of “peach blossom” eyes. The shape of his eyes was somewhat similar to Shen Buqi’s, except the sharp, cold malice in those dark-gold irises held the upper hand.
Shen Buqi recognized him. He was that strange guy from the other day who had insisted on fighting A-Shi. His name seemed to be… Qin Che?
A month had passed, and Qin Che’s black hair was a bit shorter now, draping over his shoulders, making him look all the more untamed, yet somewhat destitute.
But Shen Buqi hadn’t forgotten his “atrocities” from that day and kept a wary distance from him.
The gaze Qin Che directed at him, however, was highly complex, there was a hint of reluctance, mixed with a fair amount of scrutiny. He asked.
“Are you a Beta?”
He had asked this question that day as well, but Ji Weishi had interrupted him, preventing him from getting a concrete answer. Asking it again today showed a strange, stubborn obsession.
Shen Buqi didn’t answer. He turned around, intending to take a different path.
He wasn’t in a good mood to begin with. Aethelis’s words had already reminded him of many terrible past experiences, and now that he encountered this guy who had fought Ji Weishi, the expression on his face turned quite unpleasant.
Qin Che, however, was relentless. Seizing the moment Shen Buqi turned around, he reached out directly to touch the back of his neck. “Why didn’t I see your gland last time?”
Shen Buqi dodged nimbly, but his collar was still yanked open a bit, exposing the red marks Ji Weishi had sucked into his skin the night before. Resting against his cold, pale skin, they looked like red plum blossoms blooming in a field of snow, voluptuous and brilliant.
Qin Che’s face stiffened, and he withdrew his hand awkwardly. However, his aggressive gaze remained fixed, and his tone grew even more rigid.
“I am asking you a question. Answer me.”
Exasperated by his pestering, Shen Buqi’s voice sounded low and hoarse:
“Why should I answer you?”
Qin Che raised an eyebrow and suddenly laughed. He possessed an exceptionally superior appearance, his dark-gold pupils seemed to catch the sunlight, his nose was sharp and straight, a few stray hairs drifted across his forehead, and his thin lips were pale.
This laugh was indeed dazzling.
But Shen Buqi was not affected in the slightest. He still insisted on changing his route. This time, Qin Che didn’t block him anymore, instead, he began to shadow him.
As he followed him, he said leisurely.
“Are you rushing back in such a hurry because Ji Weishi’s rut has arrived?”
Shen Buqi’s footsteps paused. Qin Che stopped as well. “I can tell you how to soothe his rut. But in exchange, you need to answer my question from just now.”
Shen Buqi rather disliked this feeling of being threatened. He replied coldly, “No need. I already know.”
He continued walking forward. This time, Qin Che didn’t follow him anymore, but merely said in a casual tone, “He is an S-class Alpha. His rut is different from that of ordinary Alphas. It’s not something that can be alleviated simply by having sex or marking just anyone.”
“Or rather,” he let out a soft chuckle, “do you not care whether he lives or dies?”
Finally, Shen Buqi turned around.
From a distance of about ten meters, the young man’s cold, sharp gaze swept over. His black hair and black eyes were fierce, his cold, pale skin was nearly transparent under the light, and his posture was so upright, like a stalk of green bamboo.
Qin Che’s heart couldn’t help but shudder. They look too much alike.
He began to look forward to it more and more, hoping that the answer would be the one he wanted.
Upon returning home, A-Shi was indeed still asleep.
Looking at that peaceful and gentle sleeping face, Shen Buqi couldn’t resist and gently reached out to touch him.
Following the method Qin Che had taught him, he closed his eyes and held his breath, concentrating his thoughts into a single point. Then, he tried to open his eyes, allowing his consciousness to slowly expand outward from that single point.
It was a very bizarre sensation, as if he had suddenly integrated into this space. However, the space was not welcoming to him, it twisted and squeezed his consciousness, causing immense pain.
He tried doing what Qin Che had said, slowing down his thinking, not competing, but coexisting.
All of a sudden, he felt as though a massive amount of the surrounding space had become free for him to move through. The next step was to retract his consciousness, concentrating it into a beam to slowly flow around A-Shi.
Qin Che had said this was called “mental power soothing.” He also mentioned that fortunately, Shen Buqi’s mental power rank was very high, so he should be able to soothe Ji Weishi.
But he only found it strange, strange in every single way. His head felt itchy, it wasn’t exactly uncomfortable, just bizarre.
However, as long as it could make A-Shi comfortable, that was enough.
Settling his resolve, Shen Buqi slowly channeled his mental power around Ji Weishi. It was very sluggish at first, but gradually, he seemed to grope his way into that so-called mental domain. He brushed his own mental power across Ji Weishi’s mental domain.
The effect was presumably quite good. Ji Weishi’s tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly.
Shen Buqi wanted to keep going, but for some unknown reason, his thoughts suddenly spun out of control. With a bang, they scattered inside his head, and he uncontrollably relived many past events over and over again.
Just as he was experiencing unspeakable agony, a wave of soothing energy slowly brushed over him. Those chaotic thoughts gathered back together. He gasped heavily for breath, the corners of his eyes flushed red.
Outside the window, Qin Che had approached at some unknown point. He said solemnly, “Are you crazy? You just opened your mental domain and you’re already overusing it? If you don’t want to live, I can help you.”
Shen Buqi couldn’t spare the energy to speak. He was only anxious to check on Ji Weishi’s condition. Seeing that he was fine, he finally let out a sigh of relief.
He had no strength left whatsoever. His mind was a total blank, and he slumped onto the floor, unable to move.
Qin Che looked at Shen Buqi through the window. The hazy atmosphere made the youth’s black hair look all the softer. His heart gradually softened, how could even this self-sacrificing spirit be exactly the same as that person?
His voice softened. “Let me help you up first.”
Shen Buqi shook his head. His eyes were vacant and unfocused, yet he instinctively rejected the other man’s touch.
Qin Che didn’t force it. He used his own mental power to soothe Shen Buqi for a while longer. Seeing that he had recovered, he spoke lazily, “I’ve fulfilled what I promised you. When are you going to fulfill what you promised me?”
Shen Buqi stood up. Fearing that he would disturb Ji Weishi’s rest, he forced himself to walk outside, answering Qin Che amidst the sea of roses, “Now. Go ahead.”
Qin Che froze for a moment, apparently not expecting him to be so cooperative.
He raised his hand, his fingertips trembling.
Soon. Very soon, he would get the answer.
Perhaps now was the time to untie that obsession that had tortured him for ten years.
But just as he was about to touch the back of Shen Buqi’s neck, a distinctively bony hand caught his wrist.
Ji Weishi’s mocking voice exploded in their ears.
“Don’t you know you shouldn’t just touch other people’s glands?”
Qin Che’s expression warped. The somewhat infatuated look on his face instantly vanished. He twisted his wrist, using a clever technique to break free from Ji Weishi’s grip.
Yet he couldn’t withstand Ji Weishi, who was suppressing a violent rage, his other hand came swinging straight at Qin Che’s face.
His rut hadn’t passed yet. His mental power had gone into a violent frenzy last night, leaving his entire being in a tyrannical, out of control state.
The moment he woke up, he saw another Alpha trying to touch his person. What made him even more furious was that Shen Buqi didn’t even try to dodge, that submissive, compliant appearance was infuriating to behold.
It shouldn’t be like this.
Shen Buqi should only be perfectly obedient to him. Toward others, he should maintain that detached, numb, and indifferent attitude. No one but himself was worthy of him.
Moreover, they were already in a relationship, which this person had initiated. Clearly, Shen Buqi had sacrificed so much just to have him, so why was he now delivering that vulnerable spot, the one charged with sexual meaning, into someone else’s hands?
The mental power that had just been soothed showed signs of running rampant once more. Ji Weishi couldn’t care less about any of it, a single thought consumed his mind, to kill all these superfluous people so they wouldn’t covet his lover.
Shen Buqi, however, grabbed his hand, halting his movements.
Ji Weishi grew even more infuriated. Aside from anger, a few hints of grievance arose. He’s actually holding me back for someone else?
How could Shen Buqi possibly know the fragile thoughts going through his mind during a rut? The exchange condition for Qin Che teaching him how to open his mental domain was to let him look at his gland.
This person seemed very powerful and posed a threat to A-Shi, he couldn’t break his word.
Furthermore, Shen Buqi guessed that Qin Che probably wanted to determine his second gender, which wasn’t something that frightened him.
Many years ago, when his teacher had first learned that he lacked a second gender, she had taught him a method to disguise himself as a Beta for an extended period, such that no one would ever find out.
Although a gland couldn’t grow out of thin air, using that method would absolutely make others believe he was merely a late developing Beta.
But he didn’t even have time to say any of these words to Ji Weishi.
Because Ji Weishi had already completely descended into a state of madness.
