When A Commoner Carries The Child Of A Stranger Alpha - Chapter 15
Shen Buqi ultimately obtained his answer from Chen Zixuan, an AO marking between an Alpha and an Omega is essentially tantamount to branding someone for a lifetime.
However, an AO marking was not something just any random Alpha and Omega could perform. The Alpha and Omega had to be highly compatible to prevent mutual rejection during the marking process. Otherwise, the moment the pheromones were injected, both individuals would experience immense agony.
On the flip side, highly compatible Alphas and Omegas could achieve both psychological and physiological ecstasy during a marking. In cases of exceptionally high compatibility, they might even fall in love the very moment they met, a bond decreed by destiny.
She spoke of it romantically, but to Shen Buqi’s ears, it sounded somewhat grating. He knew all too well that he was not an Omega. Forget about having low compatibility, he likely did not even have the option to be compatible in the first place.
He questioned further, “Then… can an Alpha choose not to be with an Omega?”
Connecting this to his relationship with Ji Weishi, Chen Zixuan grew even more excited:
“Of course they can! If it’s true love, a Beta can be marked too. Even though Betas don’t have pheromones, an Alpha can still leave their pheromones inside the Beta’s gland. Heck, an Alpha can even let themselves be marked by another Alpha for the sake of love! It hurts, but hehe…”
She wore a completely entranced expression. “True love knows no gender.”
Shen Buqi fell into an even deeper silence.
No gender boundaries, sure… but he lacked a second gender entirely. He didn’t even possess something like a gland. While other genders might have the possibility of being marked, he knew with absolute certainty that it was impossible for him.
A thick wave of bitterness welled up in his chest. Picking up the miniature mecha he had newly crafted that morning, he left the house, entirely lost in thought.
Ji Weishi was waiting for him at the door. Today marked the first clear day after months of rain. Though the sunlight was so weak it was barely visible after being refracted through layers of toxic gas, it was better than nothing.
That single speck of light seemed to favor Ji Weishi entirely, splitting his face into halves of light and shadow along the sharp bridge of his nose. His eyelashes fluttered slightly, and his dark eyes looked clear and beautiful.
He had been resting his eyes, but upon hearing the familiar footsteps, he opened them reflexively. His gaze was full of reliance and tenderness. Even the single rose in his hand looked delicate and dripping with vitality.
Upon meeting, Ji Weishi’s first move was to wrap Shen Buqi in an embrace, acting like an attached, oversized dog. “I missed you so much.”
It was hard to tell how much of it was genuine emotion and how much was pretense. But regardless, Shen Buqi was already intoxicated by it.
The rose seemed to become the connecting point of their love. Ji Weishi held Shen Buqi’s hand, while Shen Buqi held the stem of the rose.
The doubts weighing heavily on his mind suddenly vanished, he didn’t want to bring up a single one of them. He had studied at school for over a decade, yet in the end, the only thing he truly retained was the phrase. “When the mecha encounters a dilemma, escape in a timely manner.”
If these problems could not be resolved, why trouble himself with unwarranted anxiety? He was destined never to have a second gender, but A-Shi already liked him and already belonged to him. Why fixate so much on a second gender then?
In his palm, the specially modified mecha began to sing a soft, tender love song.
The music was pleasant to the ears, and the setting sun cast long shadows. The recently faded sunlight suddenly flared up in a final flash of brilliance before disappearing, cloaking the entire street in a brilliant, golden hue.
A pair of lovers, each harboring their own secret worries, walked side by side down this radiant, long street on their way home.
Before the rainy season arrived, people from the other districts seemed to visit less frequently. Meanwhile, Ji Weishi’s prolonged, once in a decade rut was finally drawing to a close.
He was forced to re-examine the rebellious, transgressive things he had done during this rut.
He had fallen in love with someone who possessed no second gender, a person shrouded in mysteries, excessively powerful, yet excessively gentle, who always emitted a soothing presence whenever he needed it. For this person’s sake, he had willingly compromised and chosen not to return to District 4.
The most terrifying part was that, even now, he actually had no desire to go back.
In the past, Ji Weishi had found those Alphas who were bound and controlled by AO markings to be utterly laughable. He never expected that he would fall into the exact same predicament.
What is happening to me?
He slammed his fist against the pristine white wall, leaving a massive crater.
The groaning sound emitted by the wall brought a shred of his sanity back. As luck would have it, Shen Buqi chose this exact moment to return.
Seeing the disastrous state of the room, Shen Buqi’s round eyes widened slightly. He walked over quickly, grabbing Ji Weishi’s wrist to check carefully for any injuries on his hand.
Suppressing his bloodthirsty, violent urges, Ji Weishi shook his head. “I’m fine, Xiao Yi. I’m just hurting so, so badly.”
The self-contradictory words left Shen Buqi freezing in place. Catching Ji Weishi as the latter collapsed against him, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Clinging to Shen Buqi’s neck, Ji Weishi looked on the verge of tears. “It feels like my rut is getting painful again.”
Shen Buqi was taken aback. He remembered the last time Ji Weishi mentioned suffering from his rut was nearly two months ago. If he was hurting again, could it be that his next rut had already arrived?
Caught in a dilemma, Shen Buqi relied on his past experience. He gently gathered the man into his arms, stroking the Alpha’s back with steady, rhythmic movements.
Breathing in the faint, slightly bitter fragrance emanating from him, the violent aura deep within Ji Weishi’s bones was somewhat suppressed.
However, it didn’t improve things by much. Reaching the tail end of his rut, his spiritual energy swelled uncontrollably, causing the surrounding space to warp slightly.
It felt as though something was about to explode inside his brain, it could be his blood, or perhaps something else entirely. It made his whole body boil and scald, as if he were trapped in a sea of flames. Yet in the next instant, he would plunge into an icy river, hot and cold alternated rapidly, and he felt as though he were drowning in the sticky, humid air, finding it difficult to breathe.
It hurt. It hurt too much.
An uncontrollable agony spread deep within his marrow. The rut of an S-grade Alpha was by no means gentle. Pitifully, this Alpha, who had not been an adult for very long, thought everything was ending, unaware that it was actually just beginning.
His sudden doubts and sudden irritation did not stem from his sanity returning after the rut, rather, he was being thoroughly consumed by it. It made him want to completely possess this person and all his secrets from every angle.
Yet, he could not obtain what he sought.
Thus, his hidden discontent vented at this very moment. He blamed the rut, and he blamed the pheromones, yet he uniquely avoided acknowledging that he had fallen in love with this person.
Shen Buqi had no idea that his Alpha was already in a state of frenzy. He meticulously comforted his lover, not daring to let go for a single moment from dusk till nightfall.
Leaning against the snow-white wall, the two of them slept soundly in each other’s arms throughout the night.
The next morning, the S-grade Alpha’s body forcibly entered a state of hibernation, and Ji Weishi failed to wake up.
Seeing that Ji Weishi was still asleep, Shen Buqi did not wake him. He quietly got up, prepared breakfast, and set it on the table.
When he went to work, he remained completely distracted.
Today, Chen Zixuan had taken a leave of absence due to a headache. Seizing the opportunity, Zhao Er immediately sidled over. Unlike Chen Zixuan, because she was acutely aware of her gender advantages, she always portrayed herself as fragile and delicate.
Today was no exception. The moment she approached, she squeezed out a soft, sweet voice: “Brother Shen, do you need any help?”
Shen Buqi looked up to glance at her, falling into deep thought. He was more than capable of handling the mecha work by himself, but he did have some unanswered questions regarding Alpha-related gender topics.
Coincidentally, the boss had gone to another district to source parts today, leaving him with no one else to ask. He opened his mouth and addressed Zhao Er. “Can I ask you a question?”
Zhao Er naturally agreed, but her expression shifted when she heard it was about ruts, and her mind immediately began to calculate.
She had naturally heard rumors that Shen Buqi had found an Alpha from somewhere, likely an Alpha who had come through the gates from another district, tall and handsome. However, that Alpha’s body was rumored to be very weak, and he possessed no particularly outstanding abilities. He spent every day clinging to Shen Buqi, living as a dependent. Even though he was an Alpha, how was he any different from her?
Zhao Er was an orphan. She originally had an Alpha partner, but that Alpha insisted on venturing outside and smuggled himself into District 1. Sure enough, within a couple of days, she received the pension fund sent from District 1.
Losing her protection, she, a weak and beautiful single Omega, faced no shortage of harassment. After all, this was District 7, a place where “love” was scarce, but “playing around” was far too common.
If she didn’t want to fall into a tragic plight, her only option was to find another person who could shield her, whether they were a Beta, an Omega, or an Alpha didn’t matter. The key requirements were that they could protect her and were relatively normal.
Shen Buqi fit the bill perfectly.
Even though he might look down on her, she still had to try. Only after he broke up with his current partner could they talk about the future, right? If she just waited around idly, who knew when an opportunity would present itself?
Having made up her mind, Zhao Er offered a gentle smile. “A rut, huh? I’ve heard that an Alpha’s rut absolutely requires an Omega to soothe it. It’s best if they share an AO marking, since higher compatibility makes it more comfortable, after all.”
Then, she feigned surprise and asked, “Why do you ask all of a sudden, Brother Shen? I remember you’re a Beta, right…”
She then acted as though she had misspoken, showing a look of regret. “I’m so sorry, Brother Shen. I forgot your lover is an Alpha.”
Following this string of calculated remarks, Zhao Er carefully observed Shen Buqi’s expression. She was gambling. She gambled on the fact that in District 7, where primary genders were heavily emphasized, Betas knew very little about AO physiology. She also gambled that Shen Buqi cared enough about that Alpha.
If she won the bet, Shen Buqi would definitely let go.
She was selfish; she didn’t care whether that Alpha lived or died, she only cared about maximizing her own benefits.
Sure enough, Shen Buqi’s brow furrowed tightly. Though he resumed his mecha work, Zhao Er knew she had won her bet…
After work, Shen Buqi noticed there was no one outside and guessed that Ji Weishi probably hadn’t woken up yet. He felt a mixture of heartache and distress, his chest felt heavy and suffocating.
To ask him to find an Omega partner for A-Shi was a fate more agonizing than death itself. Yet, seeing A-Shi suffer was something he couldn’t bear either.
After pondering for a moment, Shen Buqi decided to visit the hospital first to see if the doctor had any solutions.
As fate would have it, the doctor was away on a business trip, leaving only Aethelis sitting alone in the hospital.
Remembering the words she had previously said to Ji Weishi, Shen Buqi felt an instinctive aversion toward her. Furthermore, she appeared to be just a nurse and likely wouldn’t know how to treat the condition.
Just as he turned around to leave, Shen Buqi was stopped by Aethelis. Today, she wore a pair of silver-framed glasses, giving her a slightly more sophisticated aura, and her tone was much more professional:
“Hey, hiding your illness from the doctor won’t do you any good. I hold a medical license too, having studied formally for over a decade. Just tell me directly wherever you’re feeling unwell.”
Shen Buqi looked at her, deciding to treat a dead horse as if it were alive. Reseating himself, he asked, “What should be done if an Alpha’s rut is extremely agonizing?”
The pen Aethelis was using to fill out a diagnosis sheet froze. She offered a half-smile that wasn’t quite a smile.
“Heh, just do it with your partner. Why are you even asking me?”
Shen Buqi: ?
He genuinely did not comprehend her meaning. His slightly raised almond eyes were filled with complete bewilderment.
Seeing his clueless expression, Aethelis felt a surge of irritation. She had initially thought it was some major illness, preparing to showcase the medical skills she had rigorously studied for years while her father was away. Who would have thought it would turn out to be such a trivial matter? Her tone couldn’t help but carry a hint of sarcasm.
“Since you can’t find an Omega for him to bite, just offer yourself up. Do I really need to teach you that? Just lean your neck over and let him mark you. Although a Beta can’t actually be marked, he’ll still get psychological satisfaction once he’s done. A rut is just that kind of thing anyway, people without partners manage to get through it just fine. You just need to trick the body.”
