When A Commoner Carries The Child Of A Stranger Alpha - Chapter 17
The farce finally came to an end with Ji Weishi fainting and Shen Buqi urging Qin Che to leave quickly.
Looking at the chaotic mess all over the floor, Qin Che knew there was no chance of inspecting Shen Buqi’s gland today. With a dark face, he nagged a bit more about mental soothing before leaving reluctantly.
After all, no one knew if Qin Che actually touched Shen Buqi’s gland today, whether Ji Weishi would perform a miraculous recovery and bolt upright from his near death bed.
Qin Che didn’t care about Ji Weishi’s reaction, but Shen Buqi did. If something really happened to Ji Weishi today, let alone letting Qin Che see his gland again, Shen Buqi probably wouldn’t even let him through the door.
That was not the outcome Qin Che wanted.
After he left, Shen Buqi carefully half-carried and half-supported Ji Weishi back onto the bed.
Although he was exhausted, looking at Ji Weishi’s face made him feel inexplicably happy.
Both Aethelis and Zhao Er were wrong, an Alpha didn’t necessarily need an Omega, nor did they necessarily need a Beta.
Perhaps, the one A-Shi needed was him.
This thought was like a honey coated feather, sweeping through his heart wave after wave, sweet and tingling.
Shen Buqi held Ji Weishi’s hand, the one wearing the bracelet and looked at it repeatedly, liking it more the more he looked.
Remembering how A-Shi had defended him regardless of the consequences made him even happier.
Lying down beside Ji Weishi, he had another night of sweet dreams.
When he woke up in the morning, his mind was still foggy. He reached out to his side, but it was empty, causing him to instantly break out in a cold sweat from anxiety.
He sat up, intending to get out of bed to look for Ji Weishi, but before his feet could touch the floor, they were caught by someone. “Don’t move around carelessly, you’ll catch a cold.”
Only then did Shen Buqi notice Ji Weishi squatting by the bedside table, single mindedly putting shoes on him. His veins-defined palm cupped Shen Buqi’s snow-white ankle, while his other long, slender fingers unlaced the shoe.
Shen Buqi quickly tried to pull his foot back. “It’s too dirty, don’t touch it.”
Ji Weishi smiled faintly. “Not at all, Xiao Yi smells sweet all over.”
Meeting those familiar yet unreadable dark eyes, Shen Buqi inexplicably felt a shiver run down his spine.
However, things quickly returned to normal. Remembering the important matter, he asked Ji Weishi, “Ah-Shi, do you still feel unwell?”
Ji Weishi paused his movements and smiled, “I’m all better, Xiao Yi. Thank you for saving me once again.”
Shen Buqi’s ear tips burned under his gaze. “It’s nothing…”
But Ji Weishi pouted, his eyes rimming with red as he put on a aggrieved look. “But Xiao Yi, can you please stop talking to that Qin Che? He didn’t treat me very well in the past.”
After saying that, he let go of Shen Buqi’s neatly shod foot and leaned his head against Shen Buqi’s knees, looking excessively obedient and endearing. “I didn’t mean to do that yesterday. I was just so scared. I was so scared he would bully Xiao Yi, woo… Xiao Yi, I’m sorry.”
His crying threw Shen Buqi into a fluster, and he spent quite some time holding and coaxing him.
He also explained the whole situation in meticulous detail.
To his surprise, upon hearing that Shen Buqi had done all this for him, Ji Weishi cried even harder. His tears soaked a dark patch onto Shen Buqi’s pajama pants as he cried and rubbed against him.
Somehow, the situation eventually shifted to him repeatedly licking and sucking on the back of Shen Buqi’s neck.
By the time they finished fooling around, it was getting late, so Shen Buqi hastily grabbed his meal and went to work.
The boss still hadn’t returned today, but Chen Zixuan hadn’t taken leave. The moment she stepped through the door, she saw Zhao Er hovering around Shen Buqi.
Shen Buqi’s eternally unchanging expression carried a hint of annoyance, yet Zhao Er still refused to leave.
Chen Zixuan’s temper flared instantly. Poor Brother Shen, while she was away at a concert yesterday, he must have suffered no small amount of torment.
She was young, but she was quirky and full of clever, petty ways to disgust people. Her eyes darted around, and she pointed at the identification bracelet on Zhao Er’s hand in feigned surprise, “Sister Xiao Er, did you put on the wrong one? This doesn’t seem to be yours.”
An identification bracelet could directly indicate one’s identity. Since fewer and fewer people came from other districts, the identification bracelet was no longer viewed as a mandatory life-saving item.
Instead, it was treated as a marker.
If someone wore someone else’s identification bracelet, it was equivalent to being under that person’s protection.
This was often applied in casual, short-term relationships.
By saying this, she was bluntly pointing out that Zhao Er had recently entered into such a relationship, yet she was still pestering Shen Buqi.
Zhao Er’s face stiffened, forcing a smile that looked worse than crying: “A neighbor gave it to me.”
Her eyelashes fluttered, and when she looked up again, her eyes were filled with tears. “He was worried it wouldn’t be safe for me to live alone.”
Chen Zixuan let out a long, drawn-out “Oh,” and pulled up a chair to sit next to Shen Buqi. “Is that so? Then Sister Xiao Er, you should head back quickly. Some of Brother Shen’s mecha fragments are quite sharp. We wouldn’t want you to be unsafe here, otherwise your neighbor might get really worried.”
Zhao Er took a sharp, angry breath, holding back her tears as she looked at Shen Buqi, hoping to get some sort of reaction from him. Yet, he didn’t even spare her a glance.
It was as if there was only air around him.
Zhao Er’s face turned various shades of blue and purple. She gnashed her teeth and left.
Chen Zixuan, like a victorious little rooster, made a face at Zhao Er’s retreating back and pulled a music box out of her bag.
“Brother Shen, look at this!”
Shen Buqi looked up with little interest, but his attention was instantly captured by the music box in her hand. The music box wasn’t large, it was exquisitely crafted from wood, coated in a layer of pure white paint, with a single rose standing upright on top.
He took it and gently wound it up. The originally tightly closed petals of the rose began to unfurl layer by layer in tandem with the music.
The craftsmanship of music boxes had existed for hundreds of years, but the concept of the rose petals slowly blooming was very novel.
Chen Zixuan said with a beaming smile, “Brother Shen, this is for you and Brother Ji. It’s a specialty from District 6. My dad said he had to give you a gift to thank you for looking for me last time, but I thought the ties he picked out were so ugly. None of them look as good as this. See if you like it.”
Shen Buqi nodded to show his liking, his eyes shining as he stared at the rose.
Even when it was time to clock out, he was still staring at the construction of the rose.
However, his gaze was quickly drawn away by a real rose. Ji Weishi had resumed his unshakeable habit of picking him up from work.
This time he didn’t wait outside, he walked right in and took hold of Shen Buqi’s hand. Shen Buqi had originally wanted to study the structure of the music box a bit more, but with his hand held like this, he couldn’t study it anymore.
With blushing ears, he asked the other to wait a moment while he packed up his things to leave.
What he needed to pack up were some leftover parts, he wanted to make a gift for Ji Weishi.
He hadn’t figured out what exactly it would be yet, but he wanted to borrow the craftsmanship of that blooming rose.
Ji Weishi gave a soft “Mm-hmm,” looking very good tempered, and pulled out a sack of candies to distribute to everyone in the room.
The candies were brought early in the morning by Qi Qiushui. Because Shen Buqi remembered that Ji Weishi hadn’t liked those candies when he first arrived, he hadn’t dared to buy a single piece of candy for their home.
Gao Haoyang took the candy and joked with a laugh, “Oh my, it’s like you’re handing out wedding candies. Next time you give us some, it better be real wedding candies!”
He was always so enthusiastic, and his words struck a chord right in Ji Weishi’s heart.
Behind them, Zhao Er’s expression turned rather unsightly. She had been sulking all day, making several mistakes in the accounts she was supposed to handle as an accountant.
And now, this Alpha, whose face was breathtakingly beautiful, was handing her candy. She felt both bashful and a sense of self-abasement.
It would have been fine if she had never seen him before, but now that she had, she realized that her attempt to pry away someone else’s partner was more than just overestimating herself, it was downright foolish.
After handing out the candy, the moment Ji Weishi turned his back, his face instantly turned ice cold. Back when they had just established their relationship, he had given Shen Buqi the latest optical computer, which was linked to his own and could monitor Shen Buqi’s daily condition in real-time.
He would check it whenever he finished handling affairs in District 4.
Usually, this Zhao Er behaved herself well enough, but during his temporary mental instability from the pheromone disorder, she chose to stir up trouble, completely crossing his bottom line.
His visit today was precisely to warn her.
Of course, the candy he gave her was different from the others; it was a “special treat” he had personally prepared.
Whoever ate it wouldn’t feel very well for the next few days.
His temper had mellowed out considerably now; if this had been the past, that medicine would have been lethal.
After distributing the candy, Shen Buqi finished packing up. He reached out to take Ji Weishi’s hand to head home, but Ji Weishi uncharacteristically dodged. With a light twist of his wrist, a fresh rose still damp with dew appeared in his hand. Its layers of petals unfurled beautifully, bearing a striking resemblance to the one on the music box.
He smiled faintly. “I’m out of candy, Boyfriend. Is a rose okay?”
Hearing that title, Shen Buqi froze to the spot.
After a long pause, he took the rose and replied in a voice as quiet as a mosquito: “Okay.”
The two walked side by side, leaning into each other as they left.
The rose shone brightly under the light, looking exactly like a pair of passionately in-love partners.
The boss happened to miss them. By the time he returned, only Gao Haoyang was left working overtime.
Seeing the boss in a rush with a face full of exhaustion, Gao Haoyang poured him a cup of water. He figured he should strike up some small talk, but after thinking it over and finding nothing interesting, he picked what had just happened to share.
“Oh, Boss, you should have seen it. Xiao Ji just came to pick up Xiao Shen again. That sharp trench coat he wore, tsk tsk, and that aura, that height, so handsome.”
The boss gave a vague response, seemingly uninterested, but since Gao Haoyang had already started, he couldn’t just stop. He could only bite the bullet and continue:
“Looking at how lovey-dovey they are, they’re probably getting married soon. Oh, right, Boss, remember to have a talk with Xiao Zhao lately. Those two are doing so well, yet she keeps hovering around to make things awkward for them.”
The boss suddenly snapped his head up, his eyes bloodshot.
“What did you say?”
Gao Haoyang was startled, his voice losing its momentum. “Uh, I said Xiao Zhao is making things awkward…”
The boss was practically roaring: “No, the sentence before that!”
Gao Haoyang was frightened. “Xiao Shen and Xiao Ji are getting married?”
Hearing this sentence, the boss looked as if all the strength had been drained from his body. He held onto the chair and slowly sat down, his eyes hollow and vacant. He waved his hand, telling Gao Haoyang to pack up and go home immediately.
Seeing him like this, Gao Haoyang didn’t dare linger. He quickly packed his things and slipped away.
After he left, the optical computer on the boss’s wrist lit up again:
Caspar, my good child, don’t forget what we discussed today, otherwise you know the consequences, baby~
Looking at the optical computer, he subconsciously gripped his clothes. By the time he let go, the fabric was a wrinkled mess.
Slowly closing his eyes, Caspar thought with absolute sorrow:
I’m sorry, Xiao Yi. I’m going to fail you.
