What to Do If the White Moonlight Omega Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 38
Yan Qingran finalizes her plans with Zhuang Wei for their meeting at 7:00 PM on the 15th in a private bar lounge. With only eleven hours to go, she feels a slight sense of relief. Once she settles things with him, she’ll have more leverage to confront Yan Zhao. Only then can she properly plan her confession to Cha Yuxuan. The timeline is tight, and she needs to push forward.
In the library, Cha Yuxuan accompanies Yan Qingran to study. Having no morning classes, she forced herself to wake up early, a drastic departure from her usual habits. As a result, for every page she reads, she lets out three yawns. Her eyelids feel like they have lead weights attached, and her head nods lower with every passing second.
Yan Qingran glances at her and continues flipping through her book. When she finishes the page and looks up again, Cha Yuxuan is sound asleep on the desk, her warm breath heating the paper. Yan Qingran takes off her coat and gently drapes it over the girl’s back. Autumn has arrived, and the air is turning brisk.
Not far away, someone pretending to study quickly snaps a photo. Their fingers dance across their phone screen, and a new post soon appears on the campus forum: “What happened last night? [Image]”

After finishing her research, Yan Qingran gets up to swap books. She has already read most of the useful professional texts in the library and suspects she won’t be coming here as often. Some books on her list are out of print, meaning she’ll have to visit her grandfather’s private collection soon.
When Cha Yuxuan wakes up, Yan Qingran is gone, but her coat remains. She rubs her eyes and checks the time, it’s only 9:00 AM. Did she finish an entire book already? Shocked, she quickly dives into the introductory books the Senior recommended.
Yan Qingran returns with a few magazines, seeing Cha Yuxuan focused on her studies. She sits down, and they read quietly until 11:00 AM. Cha Yuxuan is so engrossed she barely moves except to turn the pages. Yan Qingran, finding the magazines lacking, finds more interest in the short stories and ad copy within them.
“Let’s take a break and get lunch,” Yan Qingran taps the table lightly.
Cha Yuxuan marks her page. “Mm.”
They register their borrowed books and head out for a stroll. After sitting all morning, Cha Yuxuan feels like her bones have turned to mush. She shoves her books into Yan Qingran’s arms, stretches her limbs, and massages her own shoulders. “Let’s go for a massage together next time.”
Yan Qingran purses her lips. “I know a little bit about massage.”
Cha Yuxuan immediately shoots back, “Then from now on, I’m only going to you for massages.”
Yan Qingran’s face flushes. Remembering that Cha Yuxuan’s idea of a massage involves being completely undressed, she doesn’t dare imagine the scene.
“Want to go out for Mid-Autumn Festival?” Cha Yuxuan asks. “Not on the day itself, it’ll be too crowded. Let’s go on the 20th. I’ll arrange everything, okay?”
Yan Qingran checks her mental schedule; the 20th is free, though she has to visit her grandfather on the 21st. “Alright, you decide. But we go Dutch.”
“You paid for everything last time, and I’ve hitched so many rides and meals. This time, it’s my treat. No arguing.” Cha Yuxuan covers the Senior’s mouth. “I’ll count to three. If you stay silent, it means you agree.”
Yan Qingran feels helpless shouldn’t an Alpha be happy to spend money on her Omega? But she complies.
“Three, two, one. Done,” Cha Yuxuan says, dropping her hand. “I’m taking you to experience ‘real life’ crowded subways, night markets, and exploring Jingcheng’s ‘fly restaurants.’ It’ll be fun.”
Yan Qingran has taken the subway, but she’s never been to a night market. “Fly restaurants?”
“Small diners tucked away in old alleys,” Cha Yuxuan explains. “The decor is simple, but the food is authentic Jingcheng soul food.”
Yan Qingran nods, suddenly remembering an old man selling candied haws on a tricycle outside her elementary school. She only had them once, but the tart-yet-sweet flavor was one of the few sweets she could tolerate.
Cha Yuxuan sighs wistfully. “After eating your cooking, I don’t like the cafeteria food anymore. What should I do?”
Yan Qingran takes the dietary concern seriously. “I don’t know that many recipes. The cafeteria has more variety. You should try different stalls; you’ll find something.”
She really can’t take a hint, Cha Yuxuan thinks, frustrated. “It’s not the same! Can’t you just… learn more recipes?”
Yan Qingran finally understands. “I’ll learn when I have time. You’re always welcome to come and taste the new dishes.”
Cha Yuxuan decides to be direct. “The school dorm beds are too hard and narrow. Most importantly, they don’t have your scent. I can’t sleep well.”
Yan Qingran swallows hard. This was a point she felt she had to hold. “It’ll get better once the dependency period passes.”
“But there will be so many dependency periods in the future,” Cha Yuxuan says poutily. Seeing Yan Qingran silent, she adds, “You have to trust yourself. Besides, you have that… ‘tool’ of yours, what are you afraid of?”
Can we please stop mentioning the secret toy? Yan Qingran wants to disappear into the floor. Her fingers are trembling. “Is that even the same thing?” she mutters.
“Don’t worry. The fact that I’m willing to move in with you means I’m willing to…” Cha Yuxuan’s face turns bright red. “You know… things couples do. But not a permanent mark. That has to wait.”
“I know, but…” Yan Qingran struggles to find a reason to refuse. “Submit your application to the college. I’ll help you move in next month.”
“Sigh, what are you even worried about?”
If Cha Yuxuan didn’t know better, she’d suspect Yan Qingran was two-timing. Yan Qingran remains silent for a moment. She has to tell her about the engagement eventually maybe it’s better to say it now? Would she think she was casual about feelings? Would she think she was a liar?
“It’s because I’ve always had a fiancé,” Yan Qingran says suddenly. “But it’s a family alliance. We have no connection and zero feelings. I swear.”
Always? So, the engagement hasn’t been broken yet. Cha Yuxuan feels the world spin. Her nose stings, and tears well up in her eyes. “Who is it?”
“Zhuang Wei. You’ve met him that day he was drunk and his friend called me. Because of the formal relationship, I had to pick him up. You know the rest.”
Is it really that simple? Cha Yuxuan sniffs. “When do you plan to break it off?”
“Don’t cry,” Yan Qingran says, her heart aching. “I really don’t like him. His pheromones make me nauseous. I’ve already arranged things. At worst, I’ll be kicked out by Grandpa. My dad will help us.”
Despite the explanation, Cha Yuxuan feels a heavy, suffocating discomfort in her chest. “Go away. Don’t come looking for me anymore.”
“I’m sorry…” Yan Qingran watches her walk away, looking utterly crushed. “I’m so sorry. I promise I’ll have the engagement canceled by October 7th.”
Cha Yuxuan doesn’t answer. She walks back to the dorm like a ghost. Her eyes are red, but she tells herself this kind of “scumbag” isn’t worth her tears. She forces them back.
Yan Qingran wants to chase her, but feels she doesn’t deserve to. Distraught, she calls her father in London again.
“Oh, baby, it’s 4:00 AM!” Yan Bing groans in a mix of English and Mandarin. “Waking someone from their dreams is a very bad habit.”
“I’m sorry, I forgot the time,” Yan Qingran says, pacing and tugging at her hair.
She explains everything. Yan Bing is silent for so long she thinks he fell asleep again. She has to wake him and repeat herself.
“Isn’t this a normal reaction?” Yan Bing asks. “Why did you tell her so early? Who can accept their girlfriend having a fiancé?”
“If I didn’t tell her, it would be fraud,” Yan Qingran argues. “I’m not that kind of person.”
Yan Bing yawns again. “Everything will be clear once you’ve actually broken it off. I’ll come back as soon as I can. For now, humor Yan Zhao and don’t let the relationship get too strained. Bye-bye. Goodnight.”
Yan Qingran hangs up and reflects. She should have told her even earlier. Telling her now just makes it look like she got her mark and was ready to check out. Curse this engagement. If it didn’t exist, her life wouldn’t be this “peaceful” weekly blind dates would have been enough to drive her mad. True love simply arrived at the most inconvenient time, when she felt her most powerless.
She realizes now that if she had more of a voice in her family, this wouldn’t be happening. As she reflects, she begins to think of how to strengthen her own position.
