What to Do If the White Moonlight Omega Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 33
Yun Qi had been wondering why Cha Yuxuan asked her not to tell Yan Qingran about her heat. Seeing how close they were now, everything became clear. As a dedicated shipper, she felt like she had just received the ultimate “sugar” hit; her “small happiness” for the day was officially maxed out.
As they spoke about her like she was a child, Cha Yuxuan nearly broke character. she could only grit her teeth and pray that no one noticed anything unusual.
Fortunately, Yun Qi didn’t want to intrude on their “world for two” for long. After a few pleasantries, she left, and Yan Qingran took the opportunity to check out. She exited the supermarket carrying two large bags of groceries with one human-shaped pendant attached to her back.
Yan Qingran stopped suddenly. Since Cha Yuxuan couldn’t see where she was going, she walked straight into the Senior’s back. Her nose went numb and sore for several seconds. Rubbing the tip of her nose, she peeked around cautiously. “Is Yun Qi gone?”
“She’s gone.”
Relieved, Cha Yuxuan pulled her hoodie down and walked beside Yan Qingran. “She didn’t notice anything, did she?” she muttered.
Yan Qingran smiled and looked back at her. “What are you afraid of her noticing? That we’re together?”
“Of course, not…” Cha Yuxuan frowned slightly, her expression saying: Is that even something I’d worry about? She looked at Yan Qingran and continued, “She wanted me to stay in the infirmary or the dorm today. I couldn’t win the argument, so I told a white lie and said I was going home.”
“I see.” Yan Qingran nodded thoughtfully. “Normally, you really shouldn’t be out. It’s too dangerous.”
Cha Yuxuan gave a soft huff but didn’t argue.
“Well, if you’re bored in the dorm next time, you can find me. We can…” Yan Qingran paused. “Study and read together.”
What? Just reading and studying? Cha Yuxuan really wanted to pry open Yan Qingran’s head to see what kind of “wonderful” thoughts were stored inside. Despite her internal complaining, she quickly agreed. “It’s a deal.”
They chatted as they made their way to the car, ready to head home.
Back at Yan Qingran’s apartment, Cha Yuxuan felt right at home. She swapped her shoes, circled the coffee table, and flopped onto the sofa, snuggling comfortably into the cushions with a pillow in her arms.
Yan Qingran placed the bag of snacks in front of her and took the rest of the items to the kitchen to prep or store in the fridge. Though they didn’t speak, the unspoken harmony between them made them look like an Alpha and Omega couple who had lived together for a decade.
Once the ingredients were ready, Yan Qingran brought a cleaned electric pot to the dining table. Cha Yuxuan waved a potato chip at her. The way she flailed her arms was oddly adorable.
Understanding the signal, Yan Qingran walked over to her. Cha Yuxuan held a whole chip to her lips. “Here.”
It was the familiar feeding routine. Yan Qingran hesitated for a heartbeat. Knowing there might be a “trick” involved, she still leaned in, bit the edge of the chip, and crunched it down. Seeing Cha Yuxuan staring at her intently, she pondered. “Mm… Cucumber flavor?”
Cha Yuxuan smiled. “Correct. Your reward is another one.”
Yan Qingran took the chip and laughed helplessly. “Can’t finish them?”
“No! I just want to share good things with everyone…” Cha Yuxuan pulled the chips back and muttered, “No more for you.”
Yan Qingran finished the chip and patted her hands clean. “You keep eating. I’ll go prepare the hotpot broth.” She didn’t leave immediately, and as expected, Cha Yuxuan called out her request: “Extra chili, no cilantro.”
“No cilantro is fine,” Yan Qingran replied without hesitation, “but only a little bit of chili for flavor. You shouldn’t eat anything too spicy right now.”
Cha Yuxuan wanted to argue for more spice, but seeing Yan Qingran’s warning gaze, she immediately behaved and nodded obediently.
Once the hotpot was ready, they sat side-by-side. They clinked two bottles of yogurt together. “Cheers.”
Yan Qingran blanched the beef first, using serving chopsticks to dip a piece into her homemade sauce slightly spicy and sweet and placed it in Cha Yuxuan’s bowl. “Try it.”
The beef looked delicious. Cha Yuxuan blew on it before taking the whole piece in one bite. The aroma of the meat mixed with the sweet-spicy sauce exploded in her mouth. “Delicious! You eat too,” she said through a mouthful of beef.
The broth was a rich, savory pork rib stock. For someone who loved strong flavors, it was a bit light, but perfectly nourishing. Over the next thirty minutes, they cleared most of the ingredients. Cha Yuxuan, having also eaten snacks, was now too full to move.
Yan Qingran slowly finished the remaining spinach and stood up. “Let’s clean up together,” Cha Yuxuan suggested, rubbing her stomach.
“Mm… you take these to the sink and let them soak,” Yan Qingran said, handing her a stack of empty plates.
“On it!”
Cha Yuxuan hurried to the kitchen, and Yan Qingran followed soon after with the rest. As they stood by the sink washing dishes, Cha Yuxuan hummed a song:
“More than friends, but not quite lovers; Sweetly troubled, a blissful mess; What will become of us? I can’t wait to know the answer…”
Yan Qingran listened silently. The lyrics said quite enough. “What’s the name of that song?”
Cha Yuxuan paused, originally thinking Yan Qingran wouldn’t catch the subtext. She smiled. “Not Quite Lovers.”
“I know what you mean, and I feel the same way. But… can you give me some time?” Yan Qingran set down the dishcloth and looked at her seriously. “I don’t mean to delay. There are just some things I need to settle. If I don’t handle them properly, it will cause a lot of trouble for you later.”
Before Cha Yuxuan could respond, she added, “After the National Day holiday, I will give you a definite answer.”
Cha Yuxuan’s ears turned red. She felt the shyness of being seen through, but also a surge of sweetness and a tiny sliver of worry, which she quickly hid. She looked up, gathered her courage, and wrapped her arms around Yan Qingran’s neck. She leaned in and gave her a fleeting peck on the cheek like a dragonfly skimming the water.
“Down payment first, delivery later,” she whispered.
The spot where she kissed felt tingly. Yan Qingran froze as if someone had hit a pause button; even her breathing slowed. After a few seconds of eye contact, both turned away with red faces and continued washing dishes in silence.
Yan Qingran scrubbed three plates before she snapped out of it. She took the cloth from the girl’s hand. “I’ll do it. Go rest.”
Cha Yuxuan gave a slow yawn. “Then I’ll go play on my phone.”
“Mm. Don’t fall asleep on the sofa, you’ll catch a cold,” Yan Qingran advised.
“Can I sleep in your bedroom then?” Cha Yuxuan asked. She knew the apartment well enough to know there was only one bedroom.
Yan Qingran was about to say she hadn’t changed the sheets, but since things were already out in the open, sleeping in the same bed didn’t seem so different. She nodded.
Cha Yuxuan wandered into the bedroom. Like a lady of the house inspecting the premises, she looked around and found everything in order, no strange scents or items. Satisfied, she climbed into bed, kicked off her slippers, and rolled into the quilt. Smelling the faint scent of fresh grass on the pillows, she fell into a deep sleep.
In the kitchen, Yan Qingran thought about her fiancé, Zhuang Wei. She had messaged him earlier this month, but he claimed to be abroad and busy. It had been ten days now; he should be back. She planned to ask him tonight on WeChat to break off the engagement. It would have a big impact, and she still needed to figure out how to explain it to her grandfather.
Grandfather Yan Zhao was old-fashioned. He wanted a “well-matched” Omega who was subservient, quiet, and a traditional housewife. Yan Qingran couldn’t fathom how Zhuang Wei had ever fit those requirements.
I need a chance to talk to Grandpa about modern dating views, she thought.
Having finished the cleaning, she crept into the bedroom. Cha Yuxuan was fast asleep, wrapped messily in the quilt with the corner of her scent patch showing at her neck. Yan Qingran wanted to straighten the covers, but fearing she would wake her, she simply stood by the bed and watched for a moment before leaving quietly.
