What to Do If the White Moonlight Omega Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 20
So hot…
It felt like falling into a massive furnace. Every bone, muscle, and vein in her body seemed to be undergoing a complete, bone-deep reconstruction.
Cha Yuxuan could vaguely sense the itchy pain at the back of her neck. Even her facial muscles seemed to be shifting. She wanted to open her eyes, to cry out, to break free from this scorching heat, but an invisible force bound her, leaving her powerless to move. Her consciousness drifted from a haze into a deep slumber as time ticked away.
She felt a cool presence beside her, a steady aura that never left her side. However, the sheer exhaustion made it impossible to open her eyes, and she sank back into a heavy sleep.
Yan Qingran had bought all the daily necessities for her on the first day. She had asked Yuxuan’s roommates to bring some things over, and only left after seeing a nurse place them in the ward. Early the next morning, she arrived again, this time bringing a thermal container clearly containing a homemade breakfast.
Yuan Chu teased her. “When I broke my leg back in the day, why didn’t I see you being this proactive about visiting me?”
Yan Qingran brushed it off with a casual remark. “Because you are thick-skinned and tough.”
Yuan Chu curled her lip. “It is because of love.”
Yan Qingran could not argue. Every sign pointed to the fact that, from the very beginning, this little one was different to her than everyone else. What was ironic was that she had truly believed the girl was an Alpha; she had even speculated about potential health issues and comforted herself with the thought that as long as one of two Alphas was functional, they would be fine. She really should have guessed it sooner; it was all because the girl played the part of an Alpha too well.
“Doctor, when will she wake up?” It was already the afternoon of the second day, and Yan Qingran was growing anxious.
“Do not worry. The higher the grade of an Omega, the longer the body needs to complete the transformation. As long as her vitals are stable, sleeping longer is actually beneficial for her.” The doctor came in to check on Cha Yuxuan and observed her data; everything was normal.
Yan Qingran nodded. “Alright. Thank you, Doctor.”
Before leaving, the doctor instructed the nurse behind her, “Add an extra cot for the guardian.” She then turned to Yan Qingran with a knowing smile. “You two can each sleep in your own bed tonight.”
Yan Qingran felt a sudden urge to find Yuan Chu and give her a piece of her mind. She quickly explained, “We are not in that kind of relationship. Besides, I will go home to sleep at night.”
The doctor interrupted her calmly. “It is fine. No need to explain. I understand.” She then led the giggling young nurse out of the room.
Soon after, a folding cot was delivered. Yan Qingran felt that since the bed was already there, it would be awkward if she did not stay. When Yuan Chu arrived after training her students, she found Yan Qingran looking as though she had moved in; a small bed-table, an iPad for drawing, and all the necessary books had been brought over. Yan Qingran herself sat cross-legged on the cot, calmly reading.
Yuan Chu scanned the room and rubbed her chin. “So, are you starting to design your wedding home now?”
“Pfft!” Yan Qingran was nearly choked by the remark. “Cough, cough, cough!”
Yuan Chu continued, “It is not impossible. Remember to ask me to be your bridesmaid when the time comes; it would be a good chance for me to get some fresh air.”
Yan Qingran jumped off the bed and covered Yuan Chu’s mouth to warn her. “Stop talking nonsense. Nothing is certain yet.” Seeing Yuan Chu about to speak again, she added, “Really, stop it. It is easy to cause misunderstandings, and rumors are not good for the little one.”
Yuan Chu caught the keyword and smirked. “The little one?”
“Cha Yuxuan.” Yan Qingran had blurted out her internal nickname for the girl in her haste and now felt slightly embarrassed.
Yuan Chu knew when to stop. “I know, I know. I definitely won’t tell anyone.”
“Mhm.” Yan Qingran instinctively looked toward Cha Yuxuan’s bed.
Yuan Chu rested a hand on her shoulder. “Have you had dinner?”
Yan Qingran silently moved the hand away. “I have.”
Yuan Chu blinked expectantly. “Any extra?”
Yan Qingran turned her back to her. “None for you.”
Yuan Chu circled back around. “Hey, she isn’t even awake yet. When she wakes up, I will cook a portion and bring it over.” They went back and forth until Yuan Chu’s mouth was dry, but Yan Qingran refused to give in.
Feeling defeated, Yuan Chu sat in a chair and spun herself around, having truly hoped to taste Yan Qingran’s cooking. She suddenly looked up. “A few classmates are coming to visit her later. Not the ones from her dorm.”
“Oh.” Since Cha Yuxuan had many friends, Yan Qingran was not surprised. But then a thought occurred to her. “Alphas? Or?”
Yuan Chu recalled the group. “I think it is a mix. One Alpha, two or three Betas, and one Omega.”
Yan Qingran narrowed her eyes, rubbing her fingertips together. “What about the Alpha?”
“What about them? Just an international student.” Yuan Chu stood up, and seeing Yan Qingran’s expression, she let out a tsk. “Do not worry. They aren’t as tall or as handsome as you, and I doubt their grade is as high either.”
Yan Qingran gave a faint response. “Mhm.” As expected.
Yuan Chu stretched. “I am going to grab some food. I will come back tonight after I finish training them.”
Yan Qingran gave a simple acknowledgement and returned to her cot to read. The ward became quiet once more. No one noticed that Cha Yuxuan’s eyelashes on the bed fluttered slightly.
Cha Yuxuan felt trapped in a cloud of black mist. She tried to push things aside to see clearly, struggling to break through her bonds. Finally, she saw the bright ceiling lights. The glare caused a single physiological tear to escape. She wanted to reach up and wipe it, but the movement tugged at the monitors and IV tubes, causing a muffled thud.
Yan Qingran leaped from the cot before even putting her shoes on properly. She rushed to the bedside and pressed the call button, then used a wet wipe to gently clean the corner of Yuxuan’s eye. “Do not move your hands.”
“Mhm.” Cha Yuxuan sniffed and said in a raspy voice, “Senior, quickly, get me a mirror.”
Her voice had changed; it was no longer crisp and bright, but a soft, cute “milky” voice that sounded quite endearing. Yan Qingran was dazed for a moment, and a smile touched her lips.
The mirror in the bathroom was fixed to the wall and could not be moved. Since she could not find a portable mirror, Yan Qingran brought over her iPad and opened the front-facing camera for her.
“Ugh, why did I get fat?” Cha Yuxuan looked at her reflection with a pained expression, her brow furrowing at her own “baby fat.”
“You did not. You have been sleeping for a day and haven’t eaten; how could you be fat? It is just the angle.” Yan Qingran quickly took the iPad away just as the doctors and nurses arrived.
The doctor tended to the IV she had disturbed, cleaned away the blood, and found a new vein to insert the needle. Cha Yuxuan instinctively flinched, her face scrunching up. The accompanying nurses began disconnecting and removing some of the equipment.
The doctor put on a stethoscope and pulled back the blanket to undo the buttons at her chest. “Do not be nervous.”
“Mhm,” Cha Yuxuan replied weakly.
Yan Qingran turned around almost instantly, not daring to look. Even just seeing a small section of Cha Yuxuan’s collarbone made her heart pound.
The doctor finished the exam and pulled the blanket back up. She put on a pair of latex gloves and glanced back at the girl with her back turned. “You, student, please step outside for a moment.”
Yan Qingran turned and left the bedside, gave Yuxuan one last glance, and pulled the door shut behind her. She sat on the row of chairs in the hallway holding her iPad, staring blankly at her own shadow on the floor. It is just a check-up; everything will be fine.
Inside, the doctor instructed the nurse to raise the head of the bed so Cha Yuxuan could sit semi-reclined. She brushed the hair away from the girl’s ear. “Come, tilt your head. I need to check your gland.”
Cha Yuxuan turned her head to the other side. Beneath her thick black hair, there was a small, pink, circular protrusion on the back of the Omega’s neck. It looked like a scar but was more aesthetic. The surrounding tissue was slightly flushed with faint red veins, which was perfectly normal. The doctor pressed it lightly with her finger.
Cha Yuxuan could not help but let out a soft whimper. A scent of milk candy pheromones escaped, drifting through the ward, and her cheeks turned a faint red.
“Does it hurt?” the doctor asked softly.
Cha Yuxuan bit her lip. “A little.”
The doctor smiled and removed her gloves. “It is normal to be unable to control your pheromones right after presenting. Do not be shy.”
Cha Yuxuan gave a modest smile, her cheeks dipping into two small dimples.
“We have checked your results. You are a very rare S-grade Omega. Your monthly heat will be one day longer than other Omegas, usually five to six days. We have already asked the main hospital to develop your specific inhibitors…” The doctor sat down and began teaching her about being an Omega, which made Yuxuan’s head spin.
From the doctor’s words, it seemed she was even more precious than an S-grade Alpha. She had to protect herself and not tell others easily. Furthermore, she should ideally find a compatible Alpha within a year, as the effectiveness of inhibitors would gradually decrease after that and could cause side effects. Only an Alpha could truly help an Omega through their heat.
The doctor stood up. “But you do not need to worry about those things yet. I will prescribe some medicine for you. Apply it evenly to the gland every morning and evening for a week.”
Wait, why don’t I need to worry? I haven’t found an Alpha yet, Cha Yuxuan thought, staring blankly at the door as the doctor left.
The moment the doctor was gone, Yan Qingran pushed the door open. She saw Cha Yuxuan dazing and caught the scent of Omega pheromones in the air. It is her scent, milk candy. Yan Qingran finally identified it clearly, and her expression softened.
She closed the door quietly and sat by the bed. “How is it? What did the doctor say?”
Cha Yuxuan thought for a moment. “Nothing much. She just urged me to find a partner.” If the doctor were still there, she would have praised the girl for such a concise summary.
Yan Qingran was silent for a while. “That is good.” She remembered the porridge she brought, which should still be warm. “Do you want something to eat?”
Gurgle, gurgle…
Cha Yuxuan’s stomach gave a series of sounds in perfect timing. She tugged at the blanket in embarrassment. “Then I will trouble you to help me buy some food, Senior.”
The corner of Yan Qingran’s mouth turned up. “I brought porridge. The doctor said you can only eat light food for now. Want to try some?”
“Yes!” Cha Yuxuan agreed happily, her eyes crinkling. “Thank you, Senior.”
Yan Qingran opened the thermal container. It was full of thick millet and lotus seed porridge. The pale yellow millet mixed with the clear fragrance of lotus seeds soon filled the room. It looked delicious; Cha Yuxuan could not take her eyes off it, and her nose was already taking it in.
“I brought sugar. Try it first; if it is not sweet enough, we can add more.” Yan Qingran did not keep sugar at home, but knowing the girl liked sweet porridge, she had bought some on the way.
“Okay.” Cha Yuxuan opened her mouth slightly, waiting to be fed. “Ah.”
Knock, knock, knock…
A knock at the door suddenly sounded.
