What to Do If the White Moonlight Omega Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 19
The weather on August 21st was generally comfortable. There was no scorching sun or the stifling humidity that often precedes a storm; instead, a refreshing northern breeze made the air delightful.
However, running today felt unexpectedly grueling for Cha Yuxuan. Normally, ten laps would have been no trouble at all. Sweat drenched her training uniform, and every breath felt constricted, as if she were being held back. Her steps were sluggish, her head felt abnormally heavy, and her plan to speed up to find her Senior was becoming a distant dream.
She felt exhausted. All the noise around her seemed to fade into a void. She had never felt this physically drained before; she couldn’t even catch her breath. It felt as if a giant boulder were pressing down on her back, and her legs, heavy as lead, pounded against the ground with every step. Even swinging her arms was a struggle. She felt sweat slide down her cheek to her chin, hitting the plastic track with a faint thwack.
Why isn’t the track bouncing back today? Cha Yuxuan thought dizzily. Her rhythm faltered, her feet tangled, and she stumbled forward. Just as she was about to hit the ground, gasps erupted from the sidelines. The wind whistled past her ears. She managed to brace herself with her elbows, breaking her fall before rolling over to collapse onto her back. It was so hot; she really didn’t want to run anymore.
Yan Qingran reached her almost instantly. She knelt beside her, supporting her back to help her sit up. “How are you?”
Cha Yuxuan leaned into the Senior’s shoulder, her entire body going limp in Yan Qingran’s embrace. A deep flush spread from her face down to her neck. “So hot, so tired… my head is spinning. I just want to sleep.”
“Don’t sleep yet. I’m taking you to the school clinic.” Yan Qingran helped her stand slowly, checking her elbows and knees. Fortunately, there were only minor scrapes—no major bruising.
Yuan Chu had been watching from a distance as well. Being further away, she arrived a step after Yan Qingran. She scanned Yuxuan up and down. “Is she okay?”
“If something happens to her, don’t expect an easy time from me,” Yan Qingran said, shotting her a cold glare. “Don’t ever make her run laps again.”
“I just saw how easily she usually runs…” Yuan Chu muttered in self-defense. Looking at Yuxuan’s frighteningly red face, she asked tentatively, “Is she having a fever?”
Yan Qingran felt the temperature of her forehead. “She’s burning up. I’ll carry her to the clinic.”
“Alright.” Yuan Chu helped Yan Qingran get Cha Yuxuan onto her back. “Go ahead. I’ll come over as soon as I dismiss the students.”
Yan Qingran lifted Yuxuan with ease and nodded. “Mhm. Bring the food I bought over there later. None for you, so don’t you dare sneak any.”
Yuan Chu let out a huff but didn’t argue.
Cha Yuxuan, leaning against Yan Qingran’s back, managed to open her eyes and smile. “Hehe… it’s okay if the Instructor wants to eat. She can have my share.”
Yuan Chu patted her head. “Cos is the one who’s truly understanding, unlike a certain stingy person. We’ve been friends for over ten years, yet she couldn’t even bring a little extra.”
The veins on Yan Qingran’s forehead throbbed. She carried Yuxuan further away from Yuan Chu. “Get your hand off. Don’t touch her.”
Yuan Chu rolled her eyes. “Fine, fine. Go on, you stingy ghost.”
Cha Yuxuan felt incredibly hot—not just feverish, but a deep heat. More than ice, she found herself craving a cooler embrace or a kiss to lower her temperature. For the first time, she seemed to smell pheromones in the air—a light, botanical fragrance. She buried her head in the crook of Yan Qingran’s neck and took a deep breath, her nose nearly touching the gland at the back of the Senior’s neck.
“Senior, your pheromones smell so good. Like the scent of crushed grass in a meadow after the rain. It’s the smell of nature; it makes me feel so comfortable. This is the first time I’ve smelled them. I want to smell them more often. Hehe, it seems yours are the only ones I can smell. This is great.”
Yan Qingran couldn’t miss her movements. She could clearly feel the warm breath hitting her sensitive gland, but she didn’t stop her. Instead, she quickened her pace, listening quietly to the girl’s rambling. Some things weren’t as she had guessed, but this was the best possible outcome.
Cha Yuxuan toyed with a lock of the Senior’s hair in her palm. “Ah… I can smell pheromones now. Does that mean I’m presenting?”
Yan Qingran’s throat moved as she responded, “Mhm.”
Unaware of her current state, Cha Yuxuan mused happily, “Does that mean I’ll be an Alpha just like you? Can I go find a beautiful Omega girlfriend? That would be wonderful.”
But you aren’t repelled by my scent, Yan Qingran thought silently. An Alpha could never like the scent of another Alpha. Her pheromones, though light, were filled with hostility and aggression toward her own kind.
Cha Yuxuan wilted again, drooping limply on the Senior’s shoulder. “Senior, the back of my neck is so itchy. It hurts a bit too, and it’s hot.”
Yan Qingran immediately stopped her from moving. “Don’t touch it, and don’t scratch.”
“Oh… but it’s really uncomfortable.” She pressed her face against Yan Qingran’s neck to cool down, taking two more deep breaths of her scent.
This little one is too innocent, Yan Qingran thought, half-amused and half-distressed. She released a tiny bit of her pheromones to soothe the girl and chose a path with fewer people.
Cha Yuxuan eventually went quiet. Yan Qingran looked at the road signs; the clinic was only a hundred meters away. She called out softly, “We’re almost there.”
“Mhm?” The girl murmured, her head swaying. A faint, subtle sound seemed to echo in the air. Centered around the back of her neck, the scent of Omega pheromones began to diffuse into the air. She excitedly clutched Yan Qingran’s arm. “I think I smell my own pheromones!”
Yan Qingran pricked up her ears, her nose twitching as she focused intently. She didn’t stop moving for a second. Is it… sweet milk?
But the milk seemed excessively sweet—one part milk, two parts sugar. A rich, thick scent. Is this condensed milk? She took a few more breaths to guess, completely unfazed by the fact that these were Omega pheromones.
Once she smelled her own scent, Cha Yuxuan felt a bit better, but the back of her neck felt like it didn’t belong to her anymore. She gripped Yan Qingran’s shoulder hard as a tearing, burning sensation flooded her nerves. “Senior, it hurts.”
“Hold on just a little longer. We’re right here. Look up and you’ll see it.”
Yan Qingran stopped trying to guess the scent and broke into a run, charging into the school clinic.
“Doctor! Doctor! My friend is presenting. Please arrange a private room!”
A Beta nurse immediately came out to check the situation. Smelling the powerful pheromones in the air, she frowned while confirming the details. “Female, age? Alpha or Omega? Any history of allergies?” Several more nurses appeared, pushing a gurney.
“Seventeen,” Yan Qingran said as she carefully placed Yuxuan on the gurney. She looked at her and spoke honestly, “Omega. Allergy history unknown.”
Cha Yuxuan, who had been nearly unconscious from the pain, widened her eyes in shock at the Senior’s answer. Her mind was filled with a million questions. How could I possibly present as an Omega?!
The nurse pushed the gurney inside. “Alright, wait out here. Don’t leave yet. If needed, you’ll have to go get some daily necessities for her later; she needs to be under observation.”
Yan Qingran stared at the doors where the gurney had disappeared. “Mhm… thank you, Doctor.”
As the nurses bustled about and the exhaust fans in the lobby were turned to the maximum to clear the Omega scent, Yan Qingran paced restlessly, forgetting to even think about the smell of the girl’s pheromones.
The nurse who first spoke to her had a free moment and asked casually, “Are you two a couple?”
Yan Qingran fiddled with her fingers. “No.”
“Then hurry up and pursue her! That little girl was willing to let an Alpha like you carry her here; that means she definitely has feelings for you. And let me tell you…” The nurse leaned in and whispered, “The chief just did a preliminary check. She’s at least an A-rank.”
Yan Qingran’s ears turned red. “Mhm.” The nurse patted her shoulder with a knowing, motherly smile.
Yuan Chu arrived soon after with Cha Yuxuan’s three roommates, carrying the bags of food Yan Qingran had bought. She flopped down next to Yan Qingran. “How is she?”
“She presented on the way,” Yan Qingran replied flatly.
The three roommates gasped. “What?!”
Yuan Chu clapped her hands and smiled. “That’s good news.”
Yan Qingran sighed. “She presented as an Omega.”
The roommates looked at each other in bewilderment. “What?!”
Jiang Xiaoping was the most shocked. “How could she be an Omega? Didn’t she have an 80% chance of being an Alpha? Even if not, shouldn’t she be a Beta?”
Yuan Chu shrugged. “Well, 80% isn’t 100%. Anything is possible. Being an Omega is fine too.”
“But Cos has always seen herself as an Alpha…” Yan Na sighed. “I’m just worried she’ll have a hard time accepting it.”
Yan Qingran silently took out three boxes of pastries and handed them to the roommates. “You guys go shower and eat first. I’ll stay here and watch over her.”
The roommates hesitated, but Yuan Chu took the boxes and shoved them into their arms. “Don’t be shy. I’ve had these before; they aren’t very sweet but they’re delicious.” Yan Qingran also opened the bag of milk teas. “Pick one. I didn’t know what you liked, so I just bought a variety. The last one is for Yuan Chu.”
Yuan Chu grabbed the bag and started distributing them like a bandit. “Here, Coconut Milk Jelly—anyone hate coconut? No? Good.” She handed them out quickly.
Yan Qingran watched her “robbery-style” distribution and shook her head helplessly. Yuan Chu took the last cup, a Grape Fruit Tea. “Anyone want to swap for this one?”
Yan Na raised her hand weakly. “Instructor, can I swap with you?”
“Of course.” Yuan Chu smiled and exchanged drinks.
As the roommates left, Yan Qingran sat with her head down, lost in thought. Yuan Chu sipped her tea and patted the Senior’s shoulder. “What’s wrong? Are you unhappy she’s an Omega? If you like her, go for it. Or are you worried about Zhuang Wei?”
Yan Qingran shook her head. “I just want her to be happy. As for Zhuang Wei, I’ve already handled that.”
“You broke the engagement? I didn’t know that,” Yuan Chu said, surprised.
“What could you possibly know stuck in the military all day? My engagement with Zhuang Wei will be dissolved soon. In about a year.”
Yuan Chu nodded. “Good. Zhuang Wei never looked like a ‘good’ Omega anyway. Too much of a control freak, fighting his brother for the family inheritance. It’s quite messy.”
The gurney was pushed out again. Cha Yuxuan was lying on it peacefully, fast asleep. Yan Qingran followed them all the way to the isolation room door.
The doctor stopped her. “You’re an Alpha, right? She just presented, and her gland is very fragile. She shouldn’t be stimulated by your pheromones right now. You can’t go in yet; come back tomorrow.”
Yan Qingran nodded and watched through the glass as the doctor hooked her up to the monitors and IVs. The doctor came out and gave her instructions. “Go buy a set of Omega-specific toiletries for her. She needs to stay for a few days. When she wakes up tomorrow, start her on light foods first.”
Yan Qingran noted everything down. She hesitated, her neck turning red. “Doctor… she bit my gland on the way here. Is that a problem?”
Yuan Chu, standing nearby, wore a look of pure gossip. Biting the gland? How scandalous.
In reality, right before they reached the hospital, Yan Qingran had told her she could bite her if it hurt too much. The little girl had indeed bitten her, but without much force. She hadn’t even really bitten down; she had just opened her mouth and rubbed against the skin of the Senior’s neck. And then… she had licked it once, leaving a bit of saliva, and that was it.
Though it had been a startling sensation at the time, Yan Qingran had been so focused on getting her to the clinic that she hadn’t let herself think too much about it.
The doctor pushed up her glasses and looked at her with an amused expression. “If you’re a couple, it’s fine. She’ll just have a short-term dependence on your pheromones, that’s all.”
Yuan Chu took a sip of her tea. “Oh, that’s fine then. They’re closer than a couple; they’re getting married eventually.”
The doctor nodded, noted something in the chart, and walked away, calling back over her shoulder, “No more biting each other for the next few days! She can’t handle it.”
The red on Yan Qingran’s neck spread to her face and collarbone. She felt like she’d just downed ten bottles of strong liquor. What biting? That didn’t even happen!
Yuan Chu whistled playfully. Yan Qingran, annoyed, slapped her on the head twice. “Can you talk a little less?”
“Hey!” Yuan Chu huffed. “I’ve already bragged for you. If you still can’t land her, don’t say you’re my best friend.”
Yan Qingran gave her a shove. “Just get out of here.”
“Bleh!” Yuan Chu made a face and ran off, milk tea in hand.
