Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 66.1
“Mom, how did you know about Wen Wen?”
The serious and earnest question caught Liu Ci off guard. A look of shock crossed her face, and she froze for nearly three seconds before responding, “Sweetheart? What do you mean? You and Wen Wen grew up together, how could I not know her?”
“Me and Wen Wen? Grew up together?”
“Yes, Chi Chi. Ever since you first met her, you wouldn’t stop talking about her, how the new girl who moved in was so pretty, how there could be someone in the world even prettier than your dolls. When she ignored you, you’d get upset, but never for more than three minutes. Every day, you’d eagerly run over to play with her, swearing that if she never talked to you, you’d keep bothering her forever.”
“Thanks to you, Wen Wen’s tendency toward isolation was noticed early. Ever since the Wen family moved here, the two of you were inseparable. Both sets of parents were happy you had each other as companions.”
Jiang Chi: “Mom, then how did you know she liked me?”
“Wen Wen’s parents were busy, so she often stayed overnight at our place. Over time, with her frequent visits, I naturally picked up on some signs. And it wasn’t just me Wen Wen’s parents noticed too.”
“At first, I was shocked. I immediately discussed it with your father, and he was very open-minded. He said it was your own business, if you liked her too, then as parents, we should support you.”
“I could tell how Wen Wen felt, but I wasn’t sure about you, so I didn’t bring it up with you. Instead, I went to Wen Wen and asked her directly.”
“To my surprise, she said, ‘Let things take their natural course.'”
“I remember her expression seemed a little odd at the time, but I couldn’t pinpoint why. Later, I wondered if she had asked you something and you’d said something in return. But I didn’t dwell on it just as your father said, it was your own matter. Whatever choice you made, we’d support you. Still, it was something you two had to work out yourselves.”
“However, Wen Wen’s parents didn’t share our perspective. Mother Wen came to me and insisted that Wen Wen’s feelings were just a mistaken illusion from being around you too much. She hoped I’d talk to you while she handled things on Wen Wen’s end.”
“I told her my stance that I wouldn’t interfere so I never had that talk with you.”
“After that, you two continued as usual. I thought maybe Wen Wen’s parents had come around, but later, when Wen Wen was sent abroad, I guessed she must have made some kind of deal with them.”
“Then, you started dating someone else. When Wen Wen returned, she seemed perfectly normal. At the time, I even thought Mother Wen might have been right that Wen Wen’s feelings were just a fleeting illusion from being too close to you.”
“Until the day you came back and told us never to mention Wen Wen again, even instructing the company’s tech team to block all her contact information and sever ties with her, it finally dawned on me that perhaps Wen Wen’s feelings for you weren’t just an illusion, she had always loved you.”
“I should have realized when that child dealt with Su Jing. She didn’t want Su Jing by your side, and I didn’t stop her because Su Jing truly wasn’t someone worth entrusting a lifetime to. But ultimately, it was still a matter between you two.”
“When I saw you entering and leaving the banquet together last time, I thought you’d reconciled. Isn’t the girlfriend you mentioned on the phone her?”
This was the real reason Liu Ci brought all this up today. Her daughter had seemed so clear about her feelings not long ago, but now.
Moreover, she genuinely adored Wen Wen, always had since childhood. She’d even considered adopting her as a goddaughter, but abandoned the idea after learning of Wen Wen’s feelings for Jiang Chi.
“Mom, do you know why I cut ties with Wen Wen?”
Liu Ci shook her head. “I don’t know what happened between you, but I suspect it might be related to Su Jing.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, seeing Jiang Chi’s unmistakably shocked expression, Liu Ci belatedly realized something. “Chi Chi? Could it be, you don’t remember Wen Wen anymore?”
Listening to their conversation, this was the question Wen Wen, still on the phone, most wanted to ask.
So Jiang Chi’s earlier behavior acting as though he’d forgotten everything between them wasn’t due to the passage of time but because in his memory, she simply didn’t exist anymore?
And judging by the implications, Jiang Chi seemed to have forgotten only her.
“Mom, you’re not lying to me, right?”
“I have no memory of anyone named Wen Wen.”
Ha.
Wen Wen let out a bitter laugh. So it was true, he’d really forgotten her.
“I’d rather have never known you at all.”
Hah? Jiang Chi, you really kept your word, didn’t you?
Liu Ci worriedly touched Jiang Chi’s head. “How could you not remember? Baby, has something happened that I don’t know about?”
Something happened?
Jiang Chi instantly recalled hitting his head the night of his awakening, but that shouldn’t have caused memory loss. He’d been fine that night, with only a little bleeding.
Even if that impact had caused amnesia, it couldn’t have selectively erased only Wen Wen.
This seemed far too deliberate, almost like a calculated “conspiracy.”
Thinking of the mysterious force controlling him, Jiang Chi quickly considered another possibility: during his awakening, his memories had been tampered with.
The plot’s control that could only be broken by staying near Wen Wen, being the only childhood friend he’d forgotten, the glimpses of a girl flashing through his mind during headaches each clue pointed to one answer.
Wen Wen.
Wen Wen, Wen Wen, Wen Wen.
The most crucial thing now was that he’d forgotten everything about her.
So, could the key to breaking free be remembering Wen Wen?
When she fell down the mountain and was hospitalized, she had undergone a full medical examination, which showed no issues with her health. Besides, being controlled by the plot wasn’t something science could explain anyway.
At that moment, Jiang Chi just wanted to bang her head against the wall. Since she had lost her memories of Wen Wen from hitting her head, she couldn’t think of any better solution than using the same method again.
The only thing that could defeat magic was magic.
But she couldn’t do it.
She could only be forced to say things that went completely against her true feelings: “I’m fine, Mom. I did hit my head once before, but didn’t I get checked at the hospital last time? Every part of my body is perfectly healthy.”
“I think it’s fate. Wen Wen and I were just never meant to be. Otherwise, how could it be such a coincidence that I remember everyone except her?”
“If I don’t remember, then so be it. It’s no big deal. Some bonds might have been doomed from the start, maybe they shouldn’t have even begun. Don’t you think so, Mom?”
Liu Ci held her hands tightly: “Sweetheart, are you really okay?”
I’m not okay, Mom!
My heart hurts so much, it feels like I’m dying. Mom, please save me.
No, the only one who could save her was Wen Wen.
She wanted to see Wen Wen, right now, immediately.
But she couldn’t. She couldn’t move as she wished, couldn’t speak the words she wanted to say.
Jiang Chi smiled. “Of course I’m fine, Mom. Today is your birthday, don’t overthink it, okay? Just be happy. Like you said, this is between us. We’ll handle it ourselves, alright?”
Just as she finished speaking, there was a knock at the door.
The mother and daughter exchanged glances before getting up to answer it. Standing outside was a woman with her back turned to them.
Hearing the door open, the woman turned around and smiled at Liu Ci. “A-Ci, it’s been a while.”
At the sound of that voice, Jiang Chi trembled violently.
M-Mother.
Before Liu Ci could react, Jiang Chi spoke first: “Auntie Zhu, you’re here.”
Liu Ci looked at her daughter in shock. “Sweetheart, you still recognize her?”
Zhuyue also raised an eyebrow slightly, clearly curious about the same thing.
“Why wouldn’t I recognize her?” Jiang Chi said matter-of-factly. “This is Auntie Zhu, who used to live next to us, the one you were close with, Mom.”
Liu Ci: “Yes, but she’s not just Auntie Zhu, who I was close with. She’s also Wen Wen’s mother.”
A flicker of surprise flashed in Jiang Chi’s eyes, but she quickly regained her composure, her tone indifferent. “To me, Auntie Zhu is just Auntie Zhu. Mom, you two must have things to talk about, right? I’ll leave you to it then.”
With that, she turned to leave, but a hand caught her wrist. Jiang Chi turned back, puzzled.
Zhuyue released her and smiled. “The birthday wishes for your mother were sent earlier. Today, I came mainly to see you.”
“A-Ci, do you mind if I have a chat with your daughter?”
The air grew still for a moment. Liu Ci took her daughter’s hand back from Zhuyue and said firmly, “If you’re still holding onto those old ideas, A-Yue, I don’t want my daughter talking to you.”
