Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 66.2
Zhuyue’s smile deepened. “To be precise, I’m here to stand up for my daughter.”
In the study, Jiang Chi and Zhuyue stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the staff bustling about in the garden below.
Jiang Chi glanced at Zhuyue. The woman had said she wanted to talk, but nearly five minutes had passed since they entered, and she still hadn’t spoken. Jiang Chi had to prompt her: “Auntie?”
“Hmm?”
Jiang Chi raised an eyebrow slightly. “Didn’t you say you wanted to talk with me? Why aren’t you speaking?”
Zhuyue withdrew her gaze from the garden and turned it to Jiang Chi’s face. “I do want to talk. I just don’t know where to begin.”
Jiang Chi said, “Why don’t you just say what you want to say about standing up for Wen Wen?”
If it was about the past, she didn’t remember much. To her, Zhuyue was merely an elder who was somewhat close to her mother. As for anything related to Wen Wen, she had no recollection at all.
This was Jiang Chi’s thought under the control of the plot. The real Jiang Chi actually wanted to hear anything, preferably every detail about Wen Wen, no matter how trivial.
She wanted to know every little thing she had forgotten about Wen Wen.
As if hearing her silent plea, Zhuyue shared some details about her interactions with Wen Wen, though they were disappointingly few: “I was very busy before and didn’t have much time to take care of Wen Wen at home. In that regard, I’ve always been grateful to you and your family. I’ve told you everything I know about your childhood. Does any of it ring a bell?”
Clearly, Zhuyue’s words were part of her effort to stand up for her daughter. She had overheard Jiang Chi’s conversation with her mother earlier.
She didn’t know how much Zhuyue had heard, but at the very least, she must have caught the part about Jiang Chi forgetting Wen Wen.
Jiang Chi didn’t hold back: “Auntie, eavesdropping on others isn’t appropriate. Even children should know that.”
Zhuyue shrugged slightly. “Believe it or not, I just happened to overhear.”
Jiang Chi didn’t press the issue further. “Your daughter, Wen Wen, we did have something going on recently, but it was just a consensual thing between adults. Now, there’s nothing between us.”
“Or is Wen Wen really that immature? How old is she? Getting dumped and then running to her mother? Asking her mother to fight her battles?”
Zhuyue studied the person before her intently for a moment before speaking slowly, “Earlier, I mentioned that I’d already sent my blessings to your mother some time ago. Given that, aren’t you curious why I came today?”
“Aren’t you here to stand up for your daughter?”
“Yes, but that wasn’t the original purpose.”
“Auntie, why not just say what you mean? Beating around the bush doesn’t seem like your style.”
From the moment she first saw Zhuyue, Jiang Chi’s impression of her was sharpness. She could easily imagine Zhuyue’s decisive and formidable demeanor at work.
“The reason I came today is that Wen Wen called and begged me to come.” Zhuyue paused, her gaze returning to the garden. “She told me about you two on the phone, saying you’d be making your relationship public today. She wanted you to have my blessing.”
“To be honest, when I first found out Wen Wen liked you, I was devastated. In my view, there’s no logic in same-sex attraction. It’s downright unnatural.”
“I talked to your mother, asking her to warn you to stay away from Wen Wen. I locked Wen Wen at home and had someone watch her, but she resisted me by refusing to eat or drink. When I gave you a cold shoulder, she only doubled her defiance against me. I tried every method I could think of, but she remained firm, insisting she truly liked you, that it wasn’t some illusion. More than just liking, it was love that could endure anything, the kind where she wanted to be with you for a lifetime.”
“At the time, I found it ridiculous. To me, you were both just kids far too young to be talking about love.”
“My stance back then was that no matter what, I wouldn’t let her continue down this path of ruin.”
“But, she’s my only daughter.”
The conflict had escalated to an unbearable intensity. Wen Wen even threatened suicide, forcing Zhuyue to relent.
Yet the compromise was only mutual concessions.
“I told her: Go study abroad at the school I arranged, come back and take over the family business. If, by then, you still believe your feelings for her are lifelong love, I won’t interfere anymore.”
“And guess what? She completed the three-year program in just one year. The first thing she did upon returning was tell me she still liked you and demanded I never interfere in your relationship again.”
Here, Zhuyue chuckled, as if recalling something.
“Two days ago, she called me, swearing up and down that you two would make your relationship public, that you’d live happily ever after. She wanted my blessing and for me to apologize to you for everything in the past.”
Two days ago. That was when, under the plot’s control, Jiang Chi’s attitude toward Wen Wen shifted. She feigned agreement, telling Wen Wen everything she said still held true, that they’d announce their relationship at Liu Ci’s birthday banquet and receive the world’s blessings.
“Honestly, I don’t think I owe you an apology. At worst, I’ve given you a cold shoulder twice. The one who bore all the pressure was always her alone.”
Bearing all the pressure alone. That meant Jiang Chi had known nothing back then.
“But she seems particularly fixated on this, insisting I apologize.”
The one who should be apologizing is me. Jiang Chi raised a hand to her chest, fingers gradually curling inward.
“At first, I refused to come not because I didn’t want to bless you. Over the years, I’ve come to accept it, my daughter deserves happiness. If she’s certain you’re her happiness, then I’ll sincerely bless you both.”
“I truly had urgent matters today and couldn’t get away, but I came anyway.”
“I just never expected to be greeted with such a surprise.”
“Jiang Chi!” Zhuyue turned, only to see Jiang Chi stagger backward, clutching her chest, barely steadying herself against the desk.
Zhuyue froze, then rushed to support her. “Jiang Chi! What’s wrong? Are you in pain?”
She wasn’t. It was just heartache so intense it shattered the plot’s control, forcing her true emotions to surface.
But only for this moment.
Jiang Chi straightened up as if nothing had happened, smiling as he uttered the most heart-wrenching words: “Hah, and bore all your pressure too. Seems Wen Wen has been quite skilled at self-indulgent melodrama since childhood.”
“Auntie, this grievance you’re airing, I don’t think it has much to do with me.”
The call was abruptly disconnected. Wen Wen looked up in confusion to see Jiang Miao standing before her with tightly knitted brows: “Why didn’t you hang up? Do you have some masochistic tendencies?”
As she spoke, her eyes gradually reddened.
It was as if Wen Wen only now realized she was alive. A sudden wave of pain shot through her heart, so intense she had to hunch over, tears spilling uncontrollably from her eyes like a breached dam.
Jiang Miao crouched down to support her.
Clutching her chest with one hand and gripping Jiang Miao’s arm with the other, Wen Wen sobbed uncontrollably: “Miao, I’m in so much pain, I think I’m dying…”
So, it was all a lie.
She deserved this. Yes, this was all her retribution.
She should have known. Years of foolish fantasies, craving to possess the sun, the only outcome was being burned to ashes.
“Miao, help, help me, I, it hurts so much, I think I’m dying…”
Jiang Miao embraced her: “Do you need me to take you to the banquet?”
