Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 54.1
The call ended abruptly. Jiang Chi immediately reacted, finding Wen Wen’s number and redialing.
Again, that damn busy tone.
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down.
The most important thing right now was to find Wen Wen and explain everything.
What fiancé?
What the hell had that bastard Su Jing told Wen Wen?
She put away her phone and turned to leave quickly, completely forgetting she had brought a friend home and that her parents were still in the living room.
When Liu Ci blocked her path, Jiang Chi realized she was crying. Tears had rolled down her cheeks without warning, landing on her arms. Her hands trembled slightly, as if wounded by the falling tears.
Liu Ci grabbed her hand and squeezed it tightly, her face full of concern. “What’s wrong, sweetheart? Tell Mom what happened.”
Jiang Chi didn’t even know what was wrong. She just felt panic overwhelming panic. After hearing Wen Wen’s icy words, it felt like a part of her heart had been hollowed out, and it would never be filled again.
Struggling to steady herself, Jiang Chi wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and shook her head. “I’m fine, Mom. I just heard some news that shocked me. I… I need to go confirm something. I’ll explain everything when I get back, okay?”
Liu Ci hugged her. “Alright. Whatever you want to do, Dad and I will support you. Always remember that, okay?”
Jiang Qingyuan patted her head. “Your mom’s right. Even if the sky falls, your dad will hold it up. Don’t be afraid.”
Jiang Chi wrapped her arms around both of them. “Thank you, Mom and Dad.”
Bai Yuetong sat on the sofa, watching the heartwarming scene of the family embracing. Her fingers, resting on her lap, unconsciously tightened.
All of this, the dependable father, the gentle and loving mother, this luxurious home, all of it should have been hers.
Her clenched fingers suddenly relaxed. She stood and walked over. “Jiang Jiang, can’t you confirm whatever news it is over the phone? You promised to stay with me today.”
Her expression was innocent, her tone wounded.
Jiang Chi looked up at Bai Yuetong standing before her, her gaze dazed, as if she had completely forgotten Bai Yuetong was even there.
Before she could respond, Jiang Qingyuan answered for her. “If my baby says she needs to go out, then she needs to go out. Miss Bai, if you have nothing else to do, you’re welcome to stay and enjoy yourself here.”
Bai Yuetong immediately agreed. “Of course, Uncle. I’ll take you up on that.”
What she wanted wasn’t Jiang Chi’s company. What she wanted was to stay in this house, by her biological parents’ side and to seize the opportunity to obtain “evidence.”
Jiang Chi said apologetically, “Sorry, Yuetong. Make yourself at home. I really need to go handle something. I’ll make it up to you next time.” Then she turned to her parents. “Mom, Dad, please take care of Yuetong for me.”
Jiang Qingyuan patted her back. “Go ahead. Don’t worry about things here.”
Liu Ci asked, “Where are you going, sweetheart? Do you need the driver to take you?”
Jiang Chi shook her head. “No, Mom. I’ll go myself.”
The red sports car shot out of the garage like a swift leopard, speeding down the road toward the Wen Corporation building dozens of kilometers away.
The roads weren’t particularly congested at two in the afternoon, but for some reason, luck seemed especially poor today every intersection encountered had a glaring red light.
Another red light loomed ahead. Jiang Chi pressed the brake, her fingers tapping impatiently on the steering wheel as she stared at the two-minute countdown.
Just then, her phone beside her suddenly buzzed to life. Jiang Chi immediately picked it up, saw an unfamiliar number, and without hesitation, hung up.
But the caller immediately dialed again.
After hesitating for two seconds, Jiang Chi answered. A composed woman’s voice spoke first: “Hello, may I ask if this is Ms. Jiang Chi?”
“Yes, who is this?”
“I’m Xu Li, the director of the film If There Were No Sun. Actually, I tried contacting you last night, but you might have been busy and didn’t answer our call.”
Jiang Chi thought back, she had indeed seen a missed call from an unknown number today, but she never bothered with such calls and hadn’t responded. “What’s this about?”
“Well, our film If There Were No Sun is currently in pre-production. After reviewing your profile, we believe you’d be a perfect fit for the character He Li. We were wondering when you might be available if possible, we’d like to discuss this in detail with you.”
Xu Li then briefly outlined the story’s premise and subtly emphasized the challenging filming conditions.
Hearing it was a film, Jiang Chi immediately guessed who had pulled strings for her. She also caught the keywords in Xu Li’s explanation: dual female leads, LGBTQ+ theme.
“Who’s the other female lead?”
Xu Li hadn’t expected that question. After a brief pause, she answered truthfully: “Wen Wen.”
“I’ll do it,” Jiang Chi said without hesitation.
Taken aback by the immediate response, Xu Li paused. “Don’t you want to know more details?”
“No need. Filming conditions, compensation none of that matters.”
The important part was that the other lead was Wen Wen.
“I’ll have my agent contact you. You can discuss specifics with her. If there’s anything else, you can also reach out to me directly, I’ll fully cooperate.”
The implication was that she wouldn’t be available today. Xu Li replied, “Alright, we’ll be in touch.”
The call ended just as the countdown finished and the light turned green.
Arriving at the Wen Group building, Jiang Chi walked past the front desk and headed straight for the elevators only to be intercepted by the receptionist. “Hello, Ms. Jiang. We’ve been instructed not to let you in. Also, Mr. Su is currently in the parking garage. You can meet him there.”
Jiang Chi continued forward. “I’m not here for him. I’m here to see Wen Wen.”
The receptionist called security while stepping in front of her again. “I’m sorry, Ms. Jiang, but we can’t let you through.”
Two security guards quickly rushed in from the entrance, blocking Jiang Chi’s path. The three of them stood like an insurmountable wall before her.
Jiang Chi looked at them, their faces gradually blurring in her vision. After a long moment, she heard her own voice, slightly choked: “I won’t force my way in. But could you at least let her know? I really need to see her.”
Her words were directed at the receptionist standing between the two guards.
The receptionist was taken aback by her tears and immediately agreed, “Alright, please wait a moment. I’ll inform her right away.”
Although President Wen had given strict orders, almost everyone in the building knew about Jiang Chi’s special relationship with her. If Jiang Chi had forced her way in, that would be one thing, but the fact that she was crying now changed everything!
If she didn’t report this situation and President Wen found out later, the consequences would be unbearable.
The internal line connected quickly, and the receptionist said, “President Wen, Miss Jiang is here.”
Wen Wen’s voice was devoid of emotion. “Didn’t I already tell you what to do?”
The receptionist glanced at Jiang Chi, who had stepped up to the front desk, and tilted her head slightly before continuing, “I relayed your exact words, President Wen. But Miss Jiang said she isn’t here for Mr. Su, she’s here to see you. And, Miss Jiang, she…”
She deliberately trailed off, and sure enough, the next second, she heard President Wen’s slightly impatient voice. “What about her?”
“She’s crying,” the receptionist whispered, covering her mouth for effect. “She’s crying so hard, tears falling in big drops, and she said she really wants to see you. I was afraid she might faint from crying, so I came to inform you.”
Silence fell on both ends of the line. After a few seconds, the receptionist cautiously asked, “President Wen, should I let her in?”
Wen Wen sighed. “Let her come up.”
The receptionist turned around, about to deliver the good news, only to see Jiang Chi suddenly dart toward the exit. Panicked, she called out, “Miss Jiang, where are you going? President Wen said you can go up.”
Wen Wen’s voice came through the receiver. “What’s she doing?”
The receptionist stammered, “Miss Jiang, she, she left.”
“Where did she go?”
The receptionist turned to the security guard, who pointed downward.
“She went to the underground parking garage,” she quickly explained. “But President Wen, everything I said earlier was true. The security guards can vouch for it. Miss Jiang really was,”
“Never mind. Just do as I said before.”
“President Wen,” the receptionist suddenly had a hunch. “If Miss Jiang comes back again…”
“No matter what she does, don’t report it. If she cries herself unconscious, just call an ambulance. It’s none of my concern.”
The line went dead with two beeps.
The receptionist took a deep breath. Though she didn’t know what had happened between them, she had distinctly heard the rustle of Wen Wen standing up in a hurry.
In the underground parking garage, Jiang Chi had no idea where Su Jing’s car was parked, but the plot’s control guided her straight to him without any detours.
Su Jing was slumped against the car, his arms limp at his sides, his head hanging low. From Jiang Chi’s perspective, it was impossible to tell if he was alive or dead.
Jiang Chi rushed over and knelt before him, carefully lifting his head. What she saw made her pupils tremble violently.
His left eye was so swollen that the eyelids were nearly fused together. His once-straight nose now had a grotesque bulge likely broken with two streaks of dried blood beneath his nostrils. Apart from his right eye and a small patch above it, his entire face was swollen, bruised, and battered, barely recognizable as human.
If the plot hadn’t brought her here, she would never have connected the pig-faced figure before her with Su Jing’s face.
Who had beaten him up like this?
“Your fiancé is with me, not in great shape. You might need to come pick him up.”
Wen Wen’s words from the phone call flashed through her mind.
Did Wen Wen do this?
No way? Doesn’t Wen Wen like Su Jing? How could she bear to hit him so hard? His face was practically “ruined.”
But recalling Wen Wen’s past methods of trying to “kill” Su Jing, it all suddenly seemed plausible.
Jiang Chi’s face showed concern, but inwardly she thought he deserved it.
Of course, he did. If not for being controlled, Jiang Chi would have given him a couple more kicks, how dare he go wagging his tongue in front of Wen Wen!
Unfortunately, she was under control. Her hands trembled, unsure where to place them. “Brother Su Jing, what happened? Does it hurt? Who did this to you? Tell me, and I’ll definitely avenge you!”
She heard herself say those words.
