Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 53.1
Chapter 53
“Wen Wen, my darling! May I come in?”
Before Wen Wen could respond, the office door was already pushed open. She looked up to see a woman standing at the doorway, dressed in a tight black short-sleeved top and skinny jeans, a simple yet stylish outfit that accentuated her tall, curvaceous figure. The woman hooked her sunglasses down slightly, revealing fox-like eyes that curved into a charming smile.
Wen Wen glanced at her briefly before lowering her gaze again. “What brings you here?”
Jiang Miao strode over with her long legs and unceremoniously perched herself on the edge of Wen Wen’s desk. Leaning down, she lifted Wen Wen’s chin with a finger. “So cold, Senior Wen. I just got back from filming abroad, and not only do you not throw me a welcome party, but you won’t even spare me a glance when I come to see you.”
“Back in school, all you did was bury yourself in books. Now that you’re working, you’re drowning in paperwork.”
Jiang Miao had met Wen Wen while studying abroad, enrolling a year later. Bonding over shared hometown roots and overlapping interests, they gradually grew close. They collaborated on several projects during their university years and remained good friends after returning home, even co-starring in a film together. Their careers advanced almost in sync, leading netizens to joke about which of the two powerhouses would outshine the other.
When not working together, both were busy, but they made time to meet whenever possible.
Wen Wen raised a brow slightly. “Do you know why you can waltz in here without any obstacles.” Her gaze swept over the desk Jiang Miao was sitting on, “even plopping yourself on my desk without getting thrown out?”
Naturally, it was because Wen Wen allowed it.
But the reason Jiang Miao could barge into her office without an appointment or announcement was that she had contacted Wen Wen the night before. Even close friends like Jiang Miao had to follow this rule even Wen Wen’s parents had to give prior notice.
The only person who had ever held true privilege here, from the very beginning, was Jiang Chi.
That privilege had been revoked after their fight but was recently reinstated.
Yet, during her three-day business trip, the very person she had repeatedly reminded to reply to her messages hadn’t contacted her once.
Jiang Miao followed Wen Wen’s gaze to the darkened screen of her phone before releasing her chin and sliding off the desk to sit properly in the chair. Crossing her arms, she asked, “Are you really not going to invite me to co-star in that film with you? I’m quite interested in the story.”
She was referring to a film project currently in preparation by Wen Entertainment, depicting two girls in an era where societal acceptance was barely a sliver, breaking free from family constraints and societal prejudices to bravely embrace their love.
Wen Wen knew Jiang Miao loved a challenge, she chose scripts based solely on whether she liked the story, never considering the director, budget, or pay.
But for this film, aside from Wen Wen herself playing one of the leads, there was only one person she had in mind for the other role from the moment she read the script: Jiang Chi.
During the negotiations with the director, the latter eagerly recommended Jiang Miao to her, analyzing every possible advantage with no downsides. Yet Wen Wen remained steadfast in her choice of Jiang Chi.
The director raised numerous doubts whether Jiang Chi’s acting could match hers, whether she could carry the weight of being the lead in a major production, and most crucially, given Jiang Chi’s past behavior, whether she could endure the grueling conditions of the filming process.
To all these concerns, Wen Wen had only one response: “I’ll take full responsibility for any consequences.”
Looking up from the documents, Wen Wen met Jiang Miao’s gaze. “Haven’t we already discussed this? You’re excellent, but I have a better candidate in mind.”
Jiang Miao knew exactly who she was referring to and gave a slight shrug. “I just don’t think she’s quite what you make her out to be.”
Jiang Miao had always been aware of Wen Wen’s feelings for Jiang Chi. She also knew the real reason Wen Wen had handed the script to Jiang Chi. They occasionally chatted, and Jiang Miao never missed a chance to pry into her friend’s love life, always asking the same question: “Any progress?”
When they were abroad, Jiang Miao had asked Wen Wen more than once, “If you’ve liked her for so long, why not confess?”
After being pestered repeatedly, Wen Wen finally snapped, “She doesn’t like girls.”
But lately, reading between the lines of Wen Wen’s replies, it was clear something had changed between them.
Jiang Miao could tell Jiang Chi wasn’t straight at all. In fact, she was just like her, naturally as bent as a spiral mosquito coil, though still unaware of it, a blooming lily in the making.
But…
In the end, Jiang Miao only said, “If your chosen one doesn’t take the role, make sure to let me know first.”
Wen Wen caught the implication immediately. “What do you mean?”
Jiang Miao blinked innocently. “You haven’t been completely buried in work these past few days, have you?”
Wen Wen had been buried in work. The documents piling up during the reality show’s filming required her personal attention, and even after rushing back from a business trip last night, she hadn’t rested much.
Without another word, Jiang Miao pulled out her phone, searched for something, then slid it across to Wen Wen.
Every headline was painfully glaring.
