Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 52.3
Jiang Chi withdrew her hand and instead draped an arm over Liu Ci’s shoulders, nuzzling her cheek as she guided her toward the bedroom. “Alright, I’m fine. It’s late, let’s get some rest. Goodnight, Mom.”
Liu Ci chuckled helplessly. “Alright, alright. Goodnight.”
Back in her room, Jiang Chi had intended to shower before sleeping, but she was utterly exhausted after spending nearly 48 hours coaxing Su Jing. The moment she lay down, she fell fast asleep.
The next morning, Jiang Chi was awakened by Liu Ci.
“Sweetheart, didn’t you say you were going to a friend’s for dinner today? What time was the appointment?”
Liu Ci’s voice was as gentle as ever, making her wake-up call sound more like a lullaby. Jiang Chi didn’t even open her eyes, merely rolling over with a groan. “Mom, what time is it?”
“It’s 8:30, sweetheart.”
Jiang Chi’s eyes flew open. She had planned to arrive by 9:00. Based on her last visit, it took about 45 minutes to get to Bai Yuetong’s place, and she needed to arrive before 10:00, accounting for possible traffic delays.
She had to get up now.
Instantly alert, Jiang Chi bolted out of bed and rushed to the bathroom, only to dart back moments later. She planted a loud kiss on Liu Ci’s cheek. “Thank you for the wake-up service, Your Majesty. Otherwise, your precious daughter would have been late.”
With that, she dashed into the bathroom for a quick wash-up.
By the time she reached the living room, Liu Ci had already prepared all the gifts she had bought, along with some pastries she could eat on the way.
“Are you driving yourself or having the chauffeur take you?” Liu Ci asked.
“I’ll drive myself,” Jiang Chi replied, grabbing her breakfast and reaching for the gift bags. Liu Ci stopped her. “Let Sister Liu and the others help you carry these down.”
Jiang Chi nodded.
Fortunately, the roads weren’t too congested, and she pulled up to Bai Yuetong’s house right at 10:00.
As soon as she parked, a figure rushed out from the doorway. Jiang Chi looked over to see Bai Yuetong’s mother, wearing an apron she must have been cooking her face lit up with a warm smile as she came forward to greet her.
Jiang Chi greeted her politely and went to the trunk to retrieve the prepared gifts.
Seeing the items in her hands, Bai Liang chided gently, “Why bring gifts when coming home I mean, Jiang Jiang, you and Tongtong are such good friends. You should treat this place as your own home. There’s no need for formalities.”
Jiang Chi smiled. “It’s only proper.”
The two entered the house together, and Bai Liang invited Jiang Chi to sit on the living room sofa. Jiang Chi’s gaze swept around the room, it wasn’t large, but it was impeccably tidy, with the sofa covers even carrying a faint, pleasant fragrance.
A fruit platter had already been arranged on the coffee table.
Bai Liang said warmly, “Don’t be shy, just make yourself at home.”
Jiang Chi nodded politely in response.
Bai Yuetong emerged from the inner room carrying tea, which she placed in front of Jiang Chi.
Bai Liang wiped her hands on her apron and smiled. “You two young people chat first. I’ll go start cooking.” She then gave Bai Yuetong a meaningful glance, flashed Jiang Chi another smile, and retreated to the kitchen.
Bai Yuetong sat down and poured Jiang Chi a cup of water. He accepted it with a quiet “Thank you.”
They sat in silence for a while. Just as Bai Yuetong was about to speak, there was a sudden noise at the door. She turned and, upon seeing the visitor, widened her eyes slightly. “Dad? Why are you back?”
Bai Fenglong usually worked in another city, returning only about twice a month. Bai Yuetong rarely saw him throughout the year. Normally, he would give advance notice before coming home, and Bai Liang would inform her so they could have a meal together. But today, without any warning, Bai Fenglong had suddenly appeared.
“Oh,” Bai Fenglong chuckled. “The factory gave us an unexpected day off, so I came back.”
His gaze lingered on Jiang Chi, and Bai Yuetong quickly realized she needed to introduce them. “Dad, this is my colleague, Jiang Chi.”
Bai Fenglong approached the coffee table and extended his hand. “Hello, I’m Bai Yuetong’s father, Bai Fenglong.”
Jiang Chi had stood up the moment Bai Fenglong entered. He shook the offered hand. “Hello, Uncle. I’m Jiang Chi.”
Bai Fenglong looked at Jiang Chi with undisguised admiration. “You’re quite handsome.”
Jiang Chi blinked in surprise. “Thank you.”
Remembering Bai Liang’s warning not to scare the young man, Bai Fenglong quickly recovered and turned to Bai Yuetong. “You two chat. I’ll go see if your mom needs any help.”
After Bai Fenglong left, the living room fell into silence again.
Jiang Chi smiled faintly. “Your family is very welcoming.”
Bai Yuetong nodded. Truthfully, this was the first time she had seen her parents act like this.
An unknown length of time passed it felt long, but in reality, only seconds had gone by.
“Jiang!”
“Yuetong”
Both spoke at the same time, then fell silent again. Jiang Chi didn’t yield. Instead, he tightened his grip on the teacup and continued, “Yuetong, the main reason I came today was to apologize to you in person. Everything I did to you before was terrible, and I sincerely want to say I’m sorry.”
He stood up and bowed deeply to Bai Yuetong.
“I was wrong before. I don’t expect you to forgive me, but I had to apologize.”
“If there’s any compensation you want, just name it. Within my power, I’ll do my best to fulfill it.”
Bai Yuetong froze one second, two seconds, three seconds. She forced a smile. “You don’t need to apologize. I already told you, it wasn’t just your fault. It was between me and Brother Su which led to your misunderstanding.”
Jiang Chi was silent for a few seconds before extending his hand. “Then let’s bury the hatchet? Wipe the slate clean of past unpleasantness?”
Bai Yuetong shook his hand and smiled. “Alright. Wipe the slate clean.”
“Wiping the slate clean sounds easy,” she thought.
Unfortunately, what she had always believed in was an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
Jiang Chi finally felt as if a weight had been lifted from her chest. Suddenly remembering something, she added, “I’ll also explain what happened that night to your mother later.”
Bai Yuetong suppressed the urge to raise an eyebrow. “And how exactly do you plan to explain it?”
Jiang Chi recited the prepared words: “Auntie, what I said that night was just out of anger. Actually, Su Jing had already broken up with me long before. I was just unwilling to accept it and came to make a scene. It had nothing to do with Yuetong. And even if I was angry, I shouldn’t have spoken so rudely to you. I’m truly sorry.”
With just a few simple words, he took all the blame upon himself, leaving Bai Yuetong completely unscathed.
The damage was already done, so why bother with such hypocritical gestures? Bai Yuetong sneered inwardly, but her face still wore a gentle smile as she picked up the water kettle. “Have a seat first. I’ll go refill this,” she said.
Jiang Chi nodded.
The moment she stood up, Bai Yuetong’s expression turned icy. She carried the kettle into the kitchen.
“After twenty-five years, I’ve finally truly met my precious daughter.”
Bai Fenglong’s voice drifted from the kitchen. It wasn’t loud, but Bai Yuetong heard every word clearly.
She froze for two seconds before tiptoeing to the kitchen door.
Bai Liang gave Bai Fenglong a hard slap on the arm. “Shh!” she hissed in a low voice. “Keep it down. They’ll hear you outside.”
“Right, right,” Bai Fenglong lowered his voice considerably after the warning. “I’m just too happy. All these years, I could only watch from afar. But today, Jiang Jiang is right within reach, my precious daughter.”
His tone turned resentful. “I’m not like you. To get back at Jiang Qingyuan, you heartlessly swapped the two babies back then, raising a worthless girl who has nothing to do with me by your side.”
“Don’t make it sound like it was all my fault,” Bai Liang slapped him again. “You agreed back then too. Raising our daughter in the Jiang family meant she could enjoy the best of everything. What would she have had with you or me? Even eating slightly expensive seafood would’ve been a struggle.”
Bai Fenglong nodded in agreement. “True. She wouldn’t have turned out so well with us. Look at Jiang Jiang now there’s not a trace of us left in her. She’s the very picture of a refined young lady.”
Bai Liang’s voice dripped with pride. “Of course. Look who gave birth to her.”
Bai Fenglong asked, “So we’ll never reveal the truth to her?”
Bai Liang hesitated. “Let’s wait until Bai Yuetong is married off.”
Whatever else they said next, Bai Yuetong could no longer hear. The world seemed to spin violently around her, her ears ringing as if something was about to burst through her eardrums. Her grip on the kettle handle tightened unconsciously, veins bulging on the back of her hand.
Suddenly, everything made sense.
Since childhood, Bai Liang had cursed Jiang Qingyuan and Liu Ci in front of her calling Jiang Qingyuan a worthless freeloader and Liu Ci a cunning vixen yet never spoke ill of Jiang Chi. In fact, she often praised how lovely Bai Yuetong looked.
So all along, the people they’d been cursing were her real parents.
So that’s how it was.
So this was the truth.
Hahahahahaha.
So this was it.
Jiang Chi, it turns out you didn’t just hurt me, you stole my entire life.
And these two shameless, despicable people are your real parents.
Hahahahahaha.
What a ridiculously melodramatic plot.
Bai Yuetong struggled to suppress her laughter, her face nearly contorting with the effort. After a moment, she steadied herself and returned to the living room with the kettle.
Noticing her odd expression, Jiang Chi asked with concern, “What’s wrong?”
Bai Yuetong shook her head. After a pause, she suddenly asked, “Are we friends now?”
Jiang Chi was taken aback but nodded. “Yes, we are.”
Bai Yuetong wore a gentle, harmless smile as she said, “Since we’re friends, can I stay at your place tonight? I’ve never really had friends growing up, and I’ve always wondered what it feels like to spend the night at a friend’s house.”
She had made up this excuse just to go to Jiang Chi’s home, but her words were genuine.
Jiang Chi nodded. “Of course, you can. Come back with me today. My family will take good care of you too.”
Those aren’t your family. They’re mine, Jiang Chi. Everything about you belongs to me. Bai Yuetong stared at her intently, thinking.
Meanwhile, in the office of Wen Corporation.
Wen Wen had returned from her business trip a day early and was currently buried in paperwork at her desk when the office door was knocked. A deliberately sweetened voice floated in, “Wenwen, my dear! May I come in?”
