Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 52.2
After a long while, Su Jing broke the silence. “Are you serious?”
Jiang Chi answered immediately, “As serious as can be.”
Su Jing: “This whole act of yours really feels like something out of a soap opera.”
If it wasn’t that, then he believed Jiang Chi was testing him perhaps the biggest, or even the last, test.
Jiang Chi: “…”
Su Jing: “You’re making all these claims without any proof. How am I supposed to believe you?”
Jiang Chi had come prepared. She took out a contract from her bag and slid it across the table to Su Jing. “If you have no objections, you can sign it right away. The agreement takes effect immediately.”
Su Jing opened the contract and began reading it carefully.
The agreement essentially stated that Stellar Media’s top resources would continue to favor Su Jing and Bai Yuetong. If the two got together, the Jiang family would tailor-make a TV series, a movie, and a variety show for them, and even fund their wedding as the main organizer.
At the bottom of the agreement, Jiang Chi had already signed her name.
Between the lines, it wasn’t hard to see Jiang Chi’s sincerity.
Su Jing felt an inexplicable strangeness in his mood and said with a half-smile, “You are, without a doubt, the most magnanimous ex in the world.”
Not only was she helping her ex-boyfriend get together with someone else, but she was even willing to fund their wedding.
“Flattery will get you nowhere,” Jiang Chi smiled faintly. “After this, I’ll also be the perfect ex, one who’s as good as dead.”
“Any other questions?”
Su Jing shook his head slightly. He had no questions, but he said, “I need time to think it over. And I have one condition no third person can know about our conversation tonight.”
As expected, if Su Jing didn’t take time to consider something like this, it wouldn’t be in character for him. Jiang Chi stood up, glanced at the untouched dishes, and smiled. “I agree to your condition. Thanks for the meal, I’ll take my leave now.”
As she reached the door of the private room, she suddenly paused as if remembering something. Turning back, she said, “You can doubt anything, but please don’t doubt this, if you two end up together, I will sincerely wish you happiness.”
After Jiang Chi left, Su Jing remained seated, staring at the direction she had gone for a long time, even after she was out of sight.
His emotions were indescribable.
It was as if he had suddenly been struck by a stroke of incredible luck. Not only could he be with the person he liked, but the path to climbing higher was still wide open for him.
What were the chances this was a trap?
At least 70%.
Given how Jiang Chi had once been willing to give him everything, even her life, would she really be this generous now, willingly handing him over to someone else?
Su Jing found it impossible to believe.
Even if it were true, even if Jiang Chi guaranteed that resources would still favor him, things would inevitably change.
For example, if a top director’s leading role was up for grabs, being with Jiang Chi meant the Jiang family could secure it for him effortlessly with just a word. Without her, the Jiang family would have no reason to do so. The opportunity might still come his way, but whether he actually got it would depend entirely on his own efforts.
He had full confidence in his abilities. He firmly believed that worthless people couldn’t be helped if he had risen this far, it was because he had the talent to back it up.
But the industry was full of people with vast connections, and many who were hundreds of times more capable than him.
In this world, having a powerful backer still carried the most weight.
Not long after leaving the restaurant, Jiang Chi’s phone rang. Seeing the name on the screen, she froze slightly.
Bai Yuetong was actually reaching out to her?
Remembering the cold mockery she had thrown at Bai Yuetong in the tent that night, she felt an inexplicable guilt. Rather than saying the agreement was to reassure Su Jing, it was more accurate to say she wanted to give Bai Yuetong what she desired.
She had done plenty of terrible things to her.
The harm she had caused couldn’t be undone, so she could only make up for it in whatever small ways she could.
She answered the call and spoke first. “Hello, Yuetong.”
Upon hearing the gentle and familiar voice calling her name, Bai Yuetong froze inexplicably. It wasn’t until Bai Liang beside her nudged her arm that she snapped out of it and responded, “Hello, Miss Jiang.”
Her tone was exceedingly polite.
Jiang Chi asked, “May I ask what you need?”
Bai Yuetong glanced at Bai Liang, who smiled encouragingly and nodded at her, mouthing the words, “Hurry up.”
“Well, it’s like this,” Bai Yuetong hesitated, appearing rather troubled. “My mother would like to invite you over for dinner. It’s to apologize for what happened last time when Su Jing came looking for me.”
Jiang Chi: “……”
Seeing her silence, Bai Yuetong quickly added, “If you don’t have time, that’s perfectly fine. We’re being rather presumptuous.”
“No, I have time,” Jiang Chi replied, snapping out of her thoughts.
Jiang Chi had actually been looking for an opportunity to apologize to Bai Yuetong in person. Regardless of whether Bai Yuetong forgave her for past events, she felt she owed her a sincere face-to-face apology. She also needed to explain the incident where she had barged into their home to Bai’s mother, lest she become an obstacle between Su Jing and Bai Yuetong.
“I’ll probably arrive around nine tomorrow. Thank you for your hospitality.”
With that, she hung up.
Hearing Jiang Chi’s agreement, Bai Liang happily patted Bai Yuetong on the back and laughed, “See? I told you she’d agree.”
Before making the call, Bai Yuetong had been treated to the best attitude Bai Liang had ever shown her. She had sensed that Bai Liang had something to ask of her, and sure enough, after some fussing, Bai Liang straightforwardly requested: she wanted Bai Yuetong to call and invite Jiang Chi over for dinner.
Bai Yuetong’s first reaction: ???
Then she tried to temper Bai Liang’s expectations: “Mom, I’m not close with her.”
“How can you say that!” Bai Liang retorted. “I’ve watched all your episodes. In the first one, she poured water for you. And during the live stream, didn’t she specifically remind you that you wouldn’t be punished together? Plus, she calls you Yuetong so intimate! Trust me, she has good intentions toward you. She’ll definitely agree.”
Unable to refuse, Bai Yuetong made the call.
Unexpectedly, Jiang Chi actually agreed.
She turned her head and looked at her mother, whose excitement was written all over her face, and asked leisurely, “Mom, are you really that happy to see Jiang Chi?”
Bai Liang’s smile faltered for a second before she quickly recovered and continued cheerfully, “Of course! As your industry’s fans would say, I’m a ‘mom fan’ of Jiang Chi. I’ve seen it all, this girl is just like me in my prime. Whether it’s her methods in pursuing men, that sharp and ruthless edge she has, or how beautiful she is, it’s hard not to like her.”
“Besides, wasn’t there a misunderstanding last time? You should apologize properly to her.”
Bai Yuetong didn’t respond to that. Instead, she voiced her deepest doubt: “But Mom, didn’t you hate Jiang Chi’s parents?”
Bai Liang’s expression stiffened momentarily before she replied magnanimously, “The grudges between parents have nothing to do with you kids. I’m not that unreasonable. If you get along well, I’ll be very happy.”
“Go rest now, go rest. It’s getting late, and we have guests to host tomorrow.”
After speaking, she returned to her room. Bai Yuetong sat on the yellowed, worn-out sofa, watching her retreating figure with an indescribable feeling in her heart though she couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was.
Jiang Chi had originally planned to go straight home to rest, but after hanging up the phone, she turned the car around and headed directly to the department store. She picked out gifts for Bai Yuetong’s parents and for Bai Yuetong herself before finally driving home.
When she arrived, Liu Ci happened to be in the living room getting water. Seeing Jiang Chi enter with numerous shopping bags, she hurried over to help. “What’s all this? Why are you bringing back so many things so late?”
Jiang Chi smiled. “I’m going to a friend’s house for dinner tomorrow. Didn’t you teach me to mind my manners? I can’t show up empty-handed.”
“You silly child.” Liu Ci gently pinched her reddened wrist where the bags had dug in. “You could have had the staff handle the gift shopping. There was no need to do it yourself, especially this late.”
