Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 44.1
“Do you think liking the same gender is strange?”
Jiang Chi instinctively shook her head, though she wasn’t entirely sure what she truly thought.
Was it strange?
It seemed not really.
It was just that her first crush had been entirely focused on Su Jing, and she had never encountered such a situation among those around her. Her perspective had been too narrow, so suddenly learning about this different path had taken her by surprise.
Her gaze slowly drifted to Wen Wen, only to find that Wen Wen was already looking at her. Their eyes met abruptly, and as she fell into those mesmerizing eyes, her heart trembled faintly. For some reason, she felt guilty and averted her gaze.
Wen Wen raised an eyebrow. “What?”
Jiang Chi shook her head like a rattle-drum.
But then she suddenly remembered her own secret moments of stolen intimacy because of Wen Wen.
If Wen Wen held such an open-minded attitude, then surely she wouldn’t think of her as a pervert, right?
Seeing Wen Wen’s suspicious look, Jiang Chi blinked twice, forcing herself to appear calm. She gripped Wen Wen’s shoulders and turned her back toward the classroom. “Really, it’s nothing! Sis, let’s just hurry and solve this so we can get out!”
Just then, another light flickered on in the hallway. Under its glow stood a lone girl, soon joined by two others walking arm in arm. One of them exclaimed in surprise, “I just saw new warnings added to the bathroom walls, all telling girls to stay away from Qin Feng.”
“That’s so creepy. Do we really have no idea who’s behind it?”
“I know, right? I don’t even dare go to the bathroom alone anymore.”
As the girl finished speaking, the light illuminating them abruptly went out, and another one turned on elsewhere.
Two girls stood facing each other. One, holding a pink envelope, wore a troubled expression, while the other looked anxious. “Class is about to start hurry and give it to him! If you’re too shy, I’ll do it for you!”
The girl with the envelope shook her head and sighed. “Forget it. His desk drawer is already overflowing with these. There’s no room left.”
“But those are other people’s love letters! Your feelings have nothing to do with them!”
The girl frowned in thought but ultimately gave up. “Never mind. Let’s just go back.”
As her voice faded, the hallway plunged back into darkness.
Jiang Chi’s heart skipped a beat, and she immediately turned to Wen Wen, only to find her frowning slightly, still staring blankly at the spot where the two girls had been.
Tilting her head, Jiang Chi leaned closer. “What’s wrong, sis? Did you notice something?”
Wen Wen didn’t react at first. Her gaze slowly shifted to Jiang Chi’s face, her expression dazed, as if lost in a dream. Out of the corner of her eye, Jiang Chi noticed Wen Wen’s hand beginning to lift before hesitating and lowering again. Reflexively, Jiang Chi caught her retreating hand and pressed it against her own cheek. “What is it, sis?”
“Nothing.” Wen Wen snapped out of it and gently withdrew her hand, lingering just a moment longer on that warm cheek.
Without another word, she turned back toward the classroom.
Jiang Chi glanced at her. Though she still found it strange, she didn’t press further.
The classroom remained exactly as it had been at the start, except that a few of the girls holding workbooks around Qin Feng had disappeared, proof that time was indeed passing.
Wen Wen made a point of peeking into Qin Feng’s desk drawer. Sure enough, the corner of a neat stack of envelopes peeked out.
The gaze shifted to the girl with long, straight black hair who kept stealing glances at Qin Feng. She was still absentmindedly chatting with the girl in front of her, but her eyes frequently drifted toward Qin Feng.
Wen Wen glanced at the girl’s desk compartment and was surprised to see the corner of an envelope identical to the one in Qin Feng’s desk.
She carefully observed the girl’s line of sight, following it repeatedly toward Qin Feng, and indeed noticed that the girl wasn’t always looking at Qin Feng himself sometimes her gaze fell on the envelope inside his desk.
Just then, the class bell rang. Everyone quickly returned to their seats, and as soon as everyone was in place, the lights abruptly went out.
Almost simultaneously, two hands grabbed her arms.
Wen Wen patted Jiang Chi’s hand reassuringly, then interlaced their fingers. Just as she was about to speak, a chilling, resentful voice suddenly echoed through the darkness.
“Why did you betray me? Why did you betray me? Why did you betray me!”
The same phrase repeated three times, each iteration more sinister and vicious than the last. It was clear the speaker’s emotions were growing increasingly deranged and anguished.
Jiang Chi was startled by the voice and immediately clung to Wen Wen, burying her face against her chest, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Wen Wen gently stroked her back to soothe her while attentively listening for any movement around them.
It was obvious, this voice most likely belonged to the “ghost” also present in this space.
Before entering, Director Xu had warned that anyone caught by the “ghosts” in the escape room would be immediately eliminated.
Fortunately, there were no other disturbances nearby. After those three sentences, the dark space fell silent again. Now, all Wen Wen could feel was the still-trembling body nestled against her.
“Don’t be afraid,” she reassured. “No one will hurt you. I’m here.”
Perhaps the comfort worked, the trembling gradually subsided. Jiang Chi lifted her head from Wen Wen’s embrace, her eyes filled with trust. “You’re right. With you here, I’m safe. You promised to protect me.”
“Yes, I will protect you,” Wen Wen said without hesitation. “Let’s go into the classroom and get the flashlight. Then you won’t have to be afraid anymore.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a beam of light shot directly into her eyes. Wen Wen instinctively lowered her head and raised a hand to shield herself.
Reacting quickly, she moved out of the light’s path, but the beam followed her. This time, however, it didn’t aim for her eyes instead, it passed over her and landed on Jiang Chi standing beside her.
Following the light, she saw Su Jing holding the flashlight, one eyebrow slightly raised as he looked at her.
He was alone his partner, Bai Yue Tong, wasn’t with him.
The three pairs had entered the building from different entrances. Wen Wen had been so focused on Jiang Chi that she hadn’t noticed when Su Jing arrived. The fact that he had found the flashlight so precisely and silently suggested he had been observing nearby for a while.
Su Jing twirled the flashlight in his hand, the beam forming a circular halo. He walked to the window, placed the flashlight upright with a soft click, and then turned a gentle gaze toward Jiang Chi. “Jiang Jiang, back when you were pursuing me, you mentioned how afraid you were of the dark. Seeing how you usually act, I thought you were joking. But watching you just now, I didn’t realize you were this scared.”
“Anyway, Director Xu never said that going out has to count only if the CP stays together. So, what do you say? Want to explore with me next? I-I’m not scared of this environment at all.” As he spoke, he took the flashlight back into his hand. “Besides, I have a flashlight here, so I can make sure you’re always in the light.”
His gaze drifted leisurely to Wen Wen, his tone still gentle but not without a hint of provocation.
“Also, splitting up the CP is a way to save manpower and time. This floor is huge. The reason I split up with Yueyue was to complete the task in the shortest time possible. After all, for us, time is the most important thing, isn’t it?”
His eyes fell on their clasped hands.
The little finger of Wen Wen’s free hand twitched slightly as she loosened her grip, but before she could fully let go, Jiang Chi immediately grabbed it again, holding on even tighter than before.
That wasn’t all. Jiang Chi pulled her entire arm into his embrace, giving her a resentful glare before turning to Su Jing in the classroom, his tone full of smugness: “My sister isn’t scared of this environment at all. She even promised to protect me. I believe that with our CP united, we can overcome anything. Even without a flashlight, we’ll still be faster than you.”
He paused slightly, his voice turning cold: “It’s true that I’m afraid of the dark, but even if I were stuck in the dark, I wouldn’t want anything to do with you. I hope Mr. Su understands what I mean.”
“Now, please focus on your own task, Teacher Su. Otherwise, if you end up slower than us despite having a flashlight. I don’t know how you’d feel, but if it were me, I’d find it pretty embarrassing.”
Su Jing tightened his grip on the flashlight, barely managing to keep his expression from crumbling. “Fine, we’ll see about that.”
With that, he took the flashlight and returned to the classroom, weaving between the desks in search of clues.
Jiang Chi understood the double meaning in his words, but she couldn’t blame Su Jing for still not believing her. After all, her behavior whether before or after her awakening had always been erratic.
She’d just have to take things one step at a time.
Right now, the important thing was Wen Wen!
Turning to face Wen Wen, her expression instantly turned aggrieved, her voice icy: “Sister, what do we do now? Are we still going into the classroom?”
Hearing her tone, Wen Wen knew her little puppy was upset.
She’d have to coax her properly tonight.
“Yes, let’s go in and take a look.”
Su Jing was still in the classroom, the beam of his flashlight occasionally flickering past as he moved around.
