Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 36
The person nestled in her arms stirred slightly, slowly waking up. Jiang Chi immediately closed her eyes, pretending to still be asleep.
Wen Wen gradually opened her eyes, only to see Jiang Chi with her eyes tightly shut yet her eyelids were twitching faintly. Wen Wen curved her lips and called her out directly, “Why are you pretending to sleep?”
Jiang Chi remained motionless, maintaining her position.
Wen Wen drawled lazily, “Now I understand why they say you can never wake someone who’s pretending to sleep.”
At her words, Jiang Chi’s fingers, resting on the pillow, twitched slightly. She then pretended to slowly open her eyes, stretching her arms above her head with exaggerated effort before turning her head to look at Wen Wen beside her. “Sis, you’re awake too?”
Wen Wen stayed lying on her side, lips quirking slightly as she watched her. “With those exaggerated movements just now, I feel like the netizens who said your acting was bad were really doing you a disservice.”
Jiang Chi blinked, looking utterly innocent. “I wasn’t pretending to sleep.”
Wen Wen raised a brow. “Did I say anything?”
Jiang Chi: “…”
Only then did she realize, she had just confessed without even being pressed.
“So, what guilty secret are you hiding?”
“Nothing!” Jiang Chi scooted closer, fawning over her. “I just opened my eyes and was instantly blinded by your radiant beauty, so I had to close them again to adjust to the light.”
Wen Wen pinched her cheek lightly and tugged. “Smooth talker.”
Jiang Chi nuzzled into her embrace, rubbing her face against her. “Not at all! I’m just stating facts~”
Wen Wen didn’t press further, simply patting her arm. “Alright, time to get up.”
It wasn’t until she stood in front of the mirror and saw her slightly swollen, rosy lips that Wen Wen finally understood Jiang Chi’s earlier odd behavior. She was surprised had last night’s kiss really been that intense? She recalled that Jiang Chi had indeed kissed her for a long time, to the point where she’d nearly suffocated. But since she was pretending to be asleep, she couldn’t push her away and had only whimpered softly in discomfort. Fortunately, Jiang Chi had understood and backed off.
Still, that level of kissing shouldn’t have left her lips swollen. And there was even a small cut on the right side of her upper lip. Had something else happened after she fell asleep? Raising a brow, she turned her head to look at Jiang Chi, who was still lounging on the bed, watching her. Wen Wen tapped her own lips. “What’s this about?”
Jiang Chi paled for a split second, she had already prepared an excuse. “Huh? Looks a little swollen. Was it from the grilled meat last night? Maybe it was too spicy?”
“Oh? Really?” Wen Wen dragged out her words lazily. “But I didn’t eat any grilled meat last night. The only piece I touched,” Her gaze drifted meaningfully to Jiang Chi’s lips. “, went straight into your mouth.”
Jiang Chi blinked, continuing her innocent act. “Eh? Sis, you didn’t go back to eat anything?”
Wen Wen: “Weren’t you sitting in that obvious spot waiting for me?”
“Of course I was waiting for you!”
“Then shouldn’t you know whether I went back to eat or not?”
“Right, you didn’t!” Jiang Chi scrambled out of bed, trying to change the subject. “Sis, you must be hungry now! I’ll go get the snacks we bought yesterday!”
Wen Wen swiftly blocked her path, stepping closer. “Fine, my lips are like this, but why are yours the same?”
Jiang Chi’s lips were equally swollen, but not broken.
Leaning back, Jiang Chi held her breath, blinking rapidly before pursing her lips: “I, I had barbecue last night, ate so much after you left, so… it’s just internal heat.”
Seeing her puppy so flustered, Wen Wen’s lips curled slightly as she decided to let her off, pretending to ponder: “Could it be that the heaty food I ate earlier only shows symptoms today?”
“Yes yes yes!” Jiang Chi eagerly agreed. “That must be it! Internal heat always takes time to manifest!”
“Is that so.” Wen Wen slowly straightened up, her tone ambiguous. “I thought maybe some mountain puppy had been nibbling on me while I slept last night.”
Jiang Chi had just relaxed when these words made her hold her breath again guiltily. When she stole that kiss last night, she never imagined it would leave such “evidence”.
Fortunately, Wen Wen didn’t press further.
Patting her chest in relief, Jiang Chi reminded herself to be more restrained if such an opportunity arose again.
Getting caught would be disastrous!
When Wen Wen emerged from washing up, she scanned the tent but found no sign of Jiang Chi. Stepping outside, she saw Jiang Chi arguing with the crew at the production team’s makeshift store over the price of milk.
“Did you infuse this milk with divine nectar? Twenty yuan for plain milk? If you’re this desperate for money, why not just rob a bank?”
“Apologies, Teacher Jiang, these are the rules. How about buying two bottles? Thirty yuan for two!” The staff member made a “two” gesture.
“Fifteen per bottle still isn’t cheap!” Jiang Chi found this absurd. “Besides, I’m not drinking it, it’s for my sister. With you unscrupulous merchants around, who knows what ridiculous tasks you’ll assign? I’m just saving where I can.”
“Market price is three yuan. Considering your effort hauling it up here, five yuan tops.”
The staff looked troubled: “Teacher Jiang, this… isn’t our decision.”
As Wen Wen moved to approach, an “Aiya!” sounded beside her. Turning, she saw Bai Yuetong stumble and come crashing toward her.
Her advancing foot retreated a step as she calmly watched Bai Yuetong sprawl before her.
Shock flashed across Bai Yuetong’s face before she quickly looked up, delicate brows furrowed in apparent pain: “Sister Wen, could you help me up? I don’t think I can stand.”
Wen Wen expressionlessly called her out: “Stop pretending. None of us are fools.”
To stay by Jiang Chi’s side, Wen Wen had accompanied her in learning no fewer than twenty different skills. If asked which she genuinely enjoyed, it would undoubtedly be the three combat sports: boxing, sanda, and freestyle fighting.
Even now, she visited the boxing gym at least twice monthly, reveling in sweat-drenched catharsis.
Bai Yuetong’s movements appeared to her as segmented slow-motion frames. She knew the fall had been calculated, angle and force controlled to ensure nothing worse than minor scrapes.
Bai Yuetong extended her hand, showing her bloodied palm to Wen Wen: “Sister Wen, I’m really in pain. Could you…”
Before she could finish, Wen Wen pressed down her arm and crouched before her: “I don’t care what you know or what tricks you’re trying to play on me.”
“Let me give you some advice. Before you do anything to me or Jiang Chi, think carefully about whether you can bear the consequences of angering me. You’d better watch yourself.”
Wen Wen stood up to leave, but before she could straighten fully, Bai Yuetong suddenly grabbed her hand and yanked her back, whispering in her ear, “Sister Wen, I know you like women. Jiang Chi is obviously straight. Why not consider me instead? I can fulfill all your desires.”
Wen Wen felt her temples throb, her voice icy: “Let go.”
Bai Yuetong flinched at her tone and immediately released her, instinctively scooting back. Seeing Wen Wen’s expression, she shuddered and retreated further.
Wen Wen brushed off her wrist as if touched by something filthy, lifting her cold gaze. “I have standards. Don’t let there be a next time.”
She wasn’t good enough?
Why was Jiang Chi the exception?
Why did it always have to be Jiang Chi?
Why did she have to live in Jiang Chi’s shadow?
Defiantly glaring at the woman standing before her, she gritted her teeth. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell Jiang Chi you like her? How do you think she’d react? Someone who only likes men would probably find you disgusting.”
“Besides, Sister Wen, you’re so smart. You must realize Jiang Chi is only clinging to you because she’s using you for something.”
Wen Wen paused mid-step, turning back to loom over her. “Threatening me like this, you must be certain you’ve got nothing left to lose in this world, huh?”
Perhaps it was the natural authority of someone born to command, but Wen Wen’s calm expression and measured tone, as if merely chatting with a friend, radiated an immobilizing pressure. Bai Yuetong stiffened, her hands trembling against the ground, panic flickering across her face as she stammered, “S-Sister Wen, I was just worried about you. I wanted to warn you.”
“Oh? Is that so? Seems like you’ve got too much free time.” Wen Wen’s gaze shifted to Jiang Chi in the distance, her icy stare softening. “One more thing, Jiang Chi isn’t like you. Only disgusting people like you think being gay is disgusting. Don’t project your filth onto others.”
“If Jiang Chi is as wonderful as you claim, why don’t you dare tell her how you feel? Weren’t you two childhood friends?”
Wen Wen lowered her eyes, her gaze turning frigid again. Instead of answering, she issued a warning: “Tell Su Jing to keep his mouth shut. If he leaks even a word, I’ll make sure he’s blacklisted in this industry.”
With that, she walked away.
Bai Yuetong remained seated, her fingers clawing unconsciously at the weeds beneath her, her venomous stare fixed on the retreating figure heading toward Jiang Chi.
Fine. Sooner or later, I’ll make you beg me to spare Jiang Chi.
Hearing footsteps behind her, Jiang Chi turned around and saw Wen Wen. A smile quickly spread across her face as she dashed over, pointing at the staff member behind her with a pitiful expression. “Sis, you’re finally out. He’s bullying me. He wants to take our money, the money we worked so hard to earn.”
Wen Wen glanced at the milk in her hand and asked knowingly, “You want to drink milk?”
“Huh?” Jiang Chi was taken aback for a moment before catching on. “Yeah, drinking milk in the morning is good for your health.”
Just moments ago, she had claimed it was for Wen Wen, and now it was for herself. Wen Wen narrowed her eyes. “Oh? Just one bottle? Not getting one for me?”
“Actually, this is for you,” Jiang Chi mumbled, feeling a bit embarrassed for not admitting it outright earlier.
She wasn’t sure how much Wen Wen had overheard of her conversation with the staff, but regardless, her behavior just now must have seemed like a poor husband haggling in a store because he couldn’t afford to buy his wife something she liked, only to get caught red-handed.
So humiliating.
Wen Wen didn’t quite catch her words. “Hmm?”
“You’re not allowed to laugh at me.”
“Mm.” Wen Wen responded coolly. She just wanted to hear Jiang Chi say it herself, that the milk was bought especially for her.
Jiang Chi cleared her throat, adopting a defiant tone. “Actually, this milk is for you.”
“Oh?” Wen Wen pressed. “Why buy it for me?”
“Don’t you!” Jiang Chi’s voice faltered as she suddenly remembered they were filming. She leaned in close to Wen Wen’s ear and whispered, “Don’t you drink a glass of milk every morning when you wake up? Did you forget? When I stayed at your place, I was the one who brought it to you every day.”
“Sis, how could you? Have you forgotten all the nice things I’ve done for you?”
Listening to the whiny voice in her ear, Wen Wen couldn’t help but smile faintly. “If it’s for me, why did you say it was for yourself at first? Is buying something for me something to be laughed at?”
“No!” Jiang Chi explained her “poor husband” analogy.
“Oh? Why did you immediately assume the perspective of a married couple?”
Was that really the point here? Jiang Chi shook her head. “I don’t know. It just came to me naturally.”
“Sis, the real issue is, this milk costs 20 yuan a bottle! I think they’re literally trying to rob us!”
Wen Wen sighed silently, then suddenly had an idea. She linked arms with Jiang Chi, stood on her tiptoes, and whispered into her ear, so softly only the two of them could hear:
“Wifey! I want some milk. Will you buy it for me? Please?”
Was Wen Wen, acting cute?
Her voice was soft and sweet, with a playful lilt at the end. Jiang Chi felt as if her soul had momentarily left her body was she hallucinating?
She was definitely being cute with her, right?
Jiang Chi’s mind was now flooded with a looping subtitle: So sweet, so beautiful, so adorable, if she asked for the moon, I’d climb up and get it for her without hesitation.
Wen Wen studied her reaction, unsure whether her dazed expression meant she was shocked or overjoyed. After a brief hesitation, she leaned in again on her tiptoes.
“Wifey? Is that a no?”
Warm breath brushed against her ear, sending what felt like an electric current straight to Jiang Chi’s heart, making it race uncontrollably. At the same time, it brought her wandering soul back to reality. She swallowed unconsciously and said, “Buy, of course we’ll buy! Big sister, whatever you want, we’ll get it all!”
Jiang Chi suddenly understood why ancient emperors with three thousand concubines would still dote exclusively on one. Perhaps it wasn’t that the emperor was particularly devoted, but that the favored one possessed boundless charm.
Moreover, she used to scoff at terms like “enchanting little minx,” but now she realized everything exists for a reason.
Wen Wen acting coquettishly, wasn’t she precisely that enchanting little minx?
Seeing Jiang Chi showed no signs of rejection and even seemed to be enjoying it, Wen Wen pressed her advantage further.
