Wen Wen had been staring up at her with slightly raised eyes, but upon hearing this, she relaxed a fraction, at least Jiang Chi acknowledged they had broken up. She rested her forehead back on Jiang Chi’s shoulder and murmured, “Then why can’t you like me? Is it really impossible for you to like me?”

Jiang Chi’s heart skipped a beat.

So, Wen Wen had actually confessed to Su Jing earlier and been rejected? Was she venting her frustration on Jiang Chi because she thought Su Jing still had feelings for her?

“It won’t happen,” Jiang Chi hesitated but ultimately decided to speak the truth. “He will never like you, sister. You should, just give up.”

“Yes.” Jiang Chi spoke like an emotionless machine, each word deliberate. “It’s impossible between you two.”

“I’m possible?”

Just as Jiang Chi was about to respond, another sharp pain shot through her shoulder.

This time, as if it were just a spur-of-the-moment punishment, Wen Wen released her before Jiang Chi could say anything. Lowering her gaze, Jiang Chi saw Wen Wen’s determined expression, her voice firm. “I won’t give up.”

At this point, giving up would be like losing half her life.

With that, Wen Wen turned and walked away.

Jiang Chi watched her retreating figure, an inexplicable tightness gripping her chest. She slid down against the tree trunk, sitting on the ground as she tilted her head back to gaze at the starry sky, a sight unseen in the city, now unobstructed and dazzling before her eyes. She should have been savoring this moment. This was supposed to be something she and her sister enjoyed together, just as they had promised when they first climbed the mountain. But now.

Jiang Chi tugged at her own hair, frustration bubbling inside her.

She won’t give up.

Jiang Chi immediately rushed over and crouched in front of her. “Sister, are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?”

Wen Wen shook her head. “Tired. I just want to rest.”

Still knowing hunger and fatigue, it seems she hasn’t lost all hope. Good, good. The weight in Jiang Chi’s heart lightened slightly. She immediately stood up, grabbed a set of newly bought toiletries, and handed them to Wen Wen. “Here, sis. Since you’re tired, wash up and rest.”

“I’m exhausted.” Wen Wen glanced at the offered toiletries but didn’t take them, her gaze drifting back to Jiang Chi’s face. Her voice was soft. “I feel like I don’t even have the strength to lift my arms.”

Jiang Chi shifted uncomfortably, her shoulder bitten three times, aching and tingling. Weren’t you strong enough when you were biting me earlier? Suppressing the grievance in her heart, she hesitated. “Then, if you’re too tired, should you just skip washing up and rest?”

Wen Wen shook her head. “I sweated a lot today. I won’t be able to sleep without washing.”

“Then, what should we do?” Jiang Chi was at a loss. Surely she couldn’t offer to bathe Wen Wen, could she?

No sooner had the thought crossed her mind than Wen Wen actually suggested it. “Haven’t you also not washed up yet? How about we shower together?”

Wen Wen stepped forward to pat her back. “Why so surprised? You have what I have, and I have what you have. Isn’t that right?”

She coughed even harder.

Wen Wen curled her lips slightly. “You still have the ability to appreciate beauty, don’t you?” She rose slightly on her toes, leaning close to Jiang Chi’s ear. “If we shower together, you can take your time admiring.”

The warm breath against her ear sent a tingling sensation from her earlobe all the way down to her toes. Unbidden images flashed through her mind, making her heart race wildly. Her entire body burned, especially her ears. Jiang Chi raised a hand to cover them.

“I saw that.” Wen Wen cupped her face, forcing eye contact. “I saw your ears turn red.” She gently stroked Jiang Chi’s head. “Are you already picturing something about me in there?”

Jiang Chi broke free from Wen Wen’s hold, clutching her head and blinking rapidly. “No! I wasn’t thinking anything at all!”

Her flustered tone and uneven breathing were as good as an admission.

Realizing this, she cleared her throat. “N-no, we can’t shower together!”

Though she had fantasized about Wen Wen more than once, this was reality!

Reality and imagination were completely different.

Sure, they were both girls, and showering together wasn’t a big deal, but she had never been close enough with anyone to strip naked face-to-face.

Just the thought made her squirm. It wasn’t that she disliked the idea, just that it felt awkward.

A sharp pain suddenly shot through her head, and a fragment of memory flashed by a scene where she, completely naked, was dragging a fully clothed girl toward the bathroom.

The location seemed to be her home? Her own room?

Jiang Chi shook her head, and the pain vanished instantly. The image had come and gone too quickly. By the time she tried to grasp it, her mind was blank again.

Wen Wen, unaware of her turmoil, stood there with a slight eyebrow raise. “Why not?”

Jiang Chi looked up, dismissing the earlier moment as her imagination, and stammered, “B-b-because the bathroom’s too small!”

She casually made up an excuse.

“I’ve seen it,” Wen Wen said lightly. “Not too big, not too small just right for the two of us.”

“No way, sis. I’m not used to bathing with others. If you’re really too tired, just rinse off with water. Rest well, and you can take a proper bath tomorrow morning.”

Wen Wen stared at her for a moment without speaking, then slowly lowered her eyelids. From Jiang Chi’s perspective, that delicate face looked utterly dejected.

“Do you dislike me that much? If you’re unwilling, then I’ll manage on my own.”

Jiang Chi watched as she turned and slowly made her way toward the bathroom. Under the dim yellow light, her slender figure looked exhausted, utterly drained. Instantly, Jiang Chi’s heart filled with guilt. “Sis, maybe I can help you bathe.”

“I’ll help you bathe, not bathe together,” Jiang Chi emphasized.

Wen Wen, with her back still turned, curled her lips slightly. So this was what it felt like to play the victim and feign pitifulness? Hmm… not bad?

“No need.” She didn’t turn around, her voice perfectly laced with weariness. “Don’t force yourself. I won’t make you do anything you’re uncomfortable with.”

Jiang Chi stared at that lonely figure, suddenly feeling like a terrible person. Sis had helped her so much before! How could she refuse such a simple request?

And besides!

We’ve both got what the other has! What’s the big deal?!

She quickly dashed in front of Wen Wen, spreading her arms to block her path. “I’m not forcing myself at all! Really! I’m totally willing! If you want to bathe together, then let’s bathe together!”

Wen Wen nodded thoughtfully. “You’re right. Since you’re offering to help, you can start by undressing me.”

Jiang Chi’s brain short-circuited instantly. Her earlier bravado deflated like a balloon losing air.

She blinked rapidly, clearly flustered.

Jiang Chi swallowed and nodded honestly: “I need a little time to adjust.”

The temperature on the mountain was low, and the bathroom’s hot water hadn’t been turned on yet, making the space chilly overall. Yet, Jiang Chi’s body was breaking out in layers of sweat. Her mind felt like it was about to short-circuit, completely oblivious to the fact that Wen Wen, who had claimed she couldn’t lift her arms was now guiding her hand with ease.

Dazedly, she watched as the other woman’s clothes fell away one by one, until the full splendor of her figure was revealed. Unconsciously, Jiang Chi swallowed hard. It was exactly as she had imagined skin like polished jade, curves graceful and alluring.

Noticing her transfixed expression, Wen Wen was thoroughly pleased. She pulled Jiang Chi closer by the hand, leaning in to whisper by her ear: “Well? Through your very discerning eyes, how does it feel?”

Jiang Chi answered truthfully: “I want to touch and feel every inch.”

The moment the words left her mouth, as if snapping back to reality, Jiang Chi sprang away, putting distance between them. She pressed herself against the tent wall. The bathroom was cramped, so her retreat didn’t take her far. Instead, she looked like a cornered prisoner with nowhere to run, hastily explaining: “Sister, let me explain! I didn’t mean it like that! I just, I genuinely think it’s beautiful and wanted to touch it, that’s all! Nothing more!”

Wen Wen slowly closed the distance, pressing flush against her, and murmured softly by her ear: “Why are you panicking? I never said I minded. Or do you think it’s absurd that you’re attracted to a woman’s body?”
