Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 26.1
“Jiang Chi!”
The long corridor acted like an amplifier, magnifying Wen Wen’s soft voice several times over.
The room was silent, and Jiang Chi was startled by her voice. She immediately let go of the doorknob, clutching her chest with a pitiful expression. “Sister, you scared me!”
Wen Wen strode over, blocking the door with a calm demeanor. “What are you doing here? I thought you’d gone back.”
Jiang Chi paused the hand patting her chest, narrowing her eyes as she leaned closer. “So, Sister, you were in such a hurry, looking for me?”
Wen Wen raised a hand to hold Jiang Chi’s chin, stopping her from advancing further, yet she herself leaned in. “Who else would I be looking for here?”
The distance between them suddenly shrank to almost nothing. Their breaths intertwined, each exhale whispering something intimate, as if the surrounding temperature was steadily rising.
Jiang Chi’s peach-blossom eyes were filled with tenderness, like a whirlpool capable of devouring anyone who gazed into them.
Jiang Chi’s throat moved involuntarily, and she averted her gaze. “I’ll go back to cracking walnuts.”
She quickly retreated from the scene.
Wen Wen glanced at her retreating figure, then at the tightly shut door behind her. She opened it just a crack, reached in to flip the lock, and secured it firmly.
Back in the living room, Jiang Chi exhaled heavily, pressing a hand to her chest.
Why was her heart beating so fast?
Even faster than when she’d been startled earlier…
Was she developing some kind of heart condition?
“What are you standing there for?”
A voice suddenly sounded beside her ear, accompanied by warm breath and the faint, cool scent of sandalwood unique to Wen Wen.
Jiang Chi wanted to jump away, but the triple assault on her senses sound, touch, and smell sent waves of tingling numbness through her body, leaving her frozen in place.
And deep down, she didn’t actually want to move away. Instead, she longed for Wen Wen to come even closer, to do something even more intimate.
But nothing happened.
Wen Wen walked past her, heading to the living room. She sat on the sofa, picked up a peeled walnut, and popped it into her mouth, nodding approvingly.
Once the tingling sensation faded, Jiang Chi walked over with a resentful expression and sat on the floor between the sofa and the coffee table. She picked up the nutcracker and resumed her walnut-cracking duties like a mere tool dedicated to the task.
Wen Wen ate another walnut, studying her expression thoughtfully. After swallowing, she finally spoke leisurely, “That look on your face makes it seem like I forced you into hard labor just to peel walnuts for me.”
Jiang Chi kept her head down, shaking it slightly in response, as if wholly devoted to the noble cause of walnut-cracking.
Wen Wen watched her silently.
Jiang Chi wasn’t short tall and slender, her 178 cm height surpassed many men. Yet, sitting there with her head bowed, she seemed to shrink into a small, pitiful figure.
The fading sunlight from the floor-to-ceiling window spilled over her, painting the entire scene in warm hues. It was beautiful, yet inexplicably tinged with loneliness.
Especially the girl in the frame.
Quietly, Wen Wen stood up, fetched her camera from the study, and silently captured the moment.
When she emerged from the study again, Jiang Chi remained seated, mechanically repeating the motions with her hands, lost in thought.
She took a seat on the sofa beside her, yet Jiang Chi still seemed oblivious.
Crack, crack!
The living room was filled only with the sound of cracking walnuts.
Wen Wen reached out, lifting Jiang Chi’s chin to meet her gaze directly. “What’s wrong with you?”
With a snap, the walnut in Jiang Chi’s hand was crushed. This time, she set it on the table and focused intently on Wen Wen’s eyes.
“Jiejie, I just feel like I might be a little strange.”
Wen Wen stiffened, releasing her chin and slowly straightening her posture, forcing composure. “Oh? How so?”
Jiang Chi shook her head. “I don’t know either.”
Wen Wen held her breath, unsure whether to exhale or keep it in. After a pause, she stood up. “Well, then take your time to think about it. I won’t disturb you.”
After taking two steps, as if suddenly remembering something, she turned back. “When do you plan to go back?”
At this, the gloom on Jiang Chi’s face vanished instantly. She tilted her head up, staring at Wen Wen with a pitiful expression. “Jiejie, do you really not want to see me?”
How could that be?
If possible, she’d want to lock this person in this house forever.
Wen Wen gazed at her intently. If she voiced this thought, would Jiang Chi immediately get up and leave? And then avoid her forever?
“No, I’m just worried your family might be concerned. You’ve been here since last night, after all.”
“No need to worry. I already told my family.” As she spoke, Jiang Chi scrambled up, crawling on her knees to Wen Wen’s feet, clinging to her thigh and looking up at her with puppy-dog eyes. “Jiejie, can I stay over one more night? The show airs tonight, let’s watch it together! You won’t be alone!”
Just as Wen Wen was about to speak, Jiang Chi seemed to sense it. She immediately grabbed her hand and swayed it, dragging out her plea. “Please, jiejie~ You’re the best!”
Wen Wen sighed silently. “Fine. But I might not have time to watch with you tonight.”
“That’s okay! I can watch it alone. Just let me stay here. And also, ” Jiang Chi bounded back to the coffee table in two quick steps, picking up a walnut and waving it at her. “I still have to shell these for you!”
Then, as if struck by sudden inspiration, she exclaimed, “Jiejie, there are so many walnuts here, I can’t finish them all at once. Since I bought them, I can’t trouble anyone else with it, right? How about this: I’ll come over whenever I’m free to shell them for you. That way, it’s easier for you to eat them.”
This was the whole point of buying those ten pounds of walnuts! How could she have almost forgotten?
Wen Wen saw right through her little scheme but didn’t call her out. Instead, she said leisurely, “I could just not eat them. And you could take them all back home.”
“That won’t do!” Jiang Chi shot to her feet, agitated. “I bought all these for you! Jiejie, do you dislike the things I give you?”
Her dark eyes blinked, the light in them dimming slightly.
Putting on the pitiful act again.
And doing it well, Wen Wen. Because you fall for it every time.
She massaged her temples and waved a hand. “Do whatever you want.”
Jiang Chi’s eyes lit up, and she immediately pushed her luck. “Then can I move in with you?”
“We’re both girls, so living together would mean we can look out for each other!”
“No.” Wen Wen refused without hesitation.
Jiang Chi pouted, but Wen Wen didn’t give her a chance to speak: “This isn’t up for discussion.”
With that, she turned and went into the study.
Jiang Chi sat back down on the floor in a huff, picked up the nutcracker, and tapped a walnut on the table. The already cracked walnut shattered into pieces instantly.
In the study, Wen Wen picked up the camera to admire the photos she had just taken, her lips unconsciously curling into a slight smile.
She did want to live together.
But resisting the temptation was hard enough as it was. If they lived together, she couldn’t imagine what she might do.
