Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 24
“Now you’re switching from acting shameless to threats, is that it?” Wen Wen’s tone was unreadable.
“Threats only work if my sister cares about me in the first place, right?” Jiang Chi blinked, her clear eyes brimming with innocence.
“Stop fooling around, go back to sleep,” Wen Wen said helplessly.
Jiang Chi wasn’t wrong, if the person Wen Wen had come back to wasn’t Jiang Chi, the police would have been called long ago.
“Nooo,” Jiang Chi turned around, facing Wen Wen, and hugged her calf, looking up at her pitifully like a puppy. “I want to sleep here.”
“Fine, you sleep here. I’ll go to the guest room.” Wen Wen tried to move, but the person clinging to her leg only held on tighter.
Before she could say anything else, the girl squatting on the floor suddenly stood up, wrapped her arms around Wen Wen’s waist, and nuzzled her neck like a puppy, pushing her firmly toward the bedroom without room for refusal.
“No, sister, I want to sleep with you.”
Warm breath spilled over her neck, tickling the skin there. Wen Wen raised her hands to push her away, only to be pulled even closer. The instigator even sniffed at her neck!
“Sister, you smell so good.”
“Are you a dog? Get off.” Only when she spoke did Wen Wen realize her voice had gone slightly hoarse.
She tried to push her away again, but when she lifted her hands, she found her body had gone weak, as if she’d melted into a puddle. She could barely stand upright, relying entirely on Jiang Chi’s tight embrace.
She had no strength left to push her away.
“Sister, you’re trembling. Are you cold? That’s perfect, we’ll be warmer if we sleep together. Don’t send me away, okay?”
Jiang Chi seemed to ignore her words entirely. Instead of letting go, she hugged her even tighter, as if trying to meld their bodies together.
“Let me go first.” If this kept up, her shower tonight would have been for nothing.
“Sister, I paid such a ‘painful’ price for lodging. Can’t you sleep with me for one night?” Jiang Chi rested her head on Wen Wen’s shoulder, her voice dripping with grievance. “I can’t sleep alone. Even if I do, nightmares wake me up. But when you’re with me, I don’t have bad dreams.”
Hearing this, the small flame of irritation in Wen Wen’s heart gradually dimmed. She took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, and gently patted the girl’s back. “Alright, get up. Let’s go to sleep. It’s late.”
Jiang Chi still didn’t let go. “We’ll sleep together?”
Wen Wen: “Mm, together.”
Jiang Chi was so happy she spun them around twice before finally setting her down.
She flopped onto the soft bed, rolling onto her side and propping her head up with one hand, striking a rather alluring pose as she beckoned to Wen Wen. “Come on, sister.”
Wen Wen sighed silently, picked up a long pillow from the nearby sofa, and placed it squarely in the middle of the bed. “I don’t like anyone touching me while I sleep, so don’t cross this line.”
“Sister!”
Before she could finish, Wen Wen cut her off, her tone leaving no room for argument. “If you don’t agree, then you sleep here, and I’ll go to the guest room.”
Jiang Chi obediently lay down on her side of the pillow, her dark eyes fixed pitifully on Wen Wen, who still stood by the bed, looking as if she had more to say but didn’t dare.
That look melted Wen Wen’s heart completely, making her soften her voice involuntarily: “What’s wrong?”
Jiang Chi whispered: “You can’t sneak away.”
For her, nightmares were secondary, what truly terrified her was being controlled by the plot again to go cause trouble for the female lead.
“Promise me, sister, you won’t sneak away. I definitely won’t cross any boundaries,” Jiang Chi emphasized.
Wen Wen didn’t answer immediately, simply gazing at her quietly.
She thought of Jiang Chi crouching at her doorstep crying before she returned, of Jiang Chi with tear-streaked cheeks, of Jiang Chi clinging to her and shouting in fear.
Undoubtedly, Jiang Chi was hiding something from her.
And most likely, it had something to do with her otherwise, Jiang Chi wouldn’t have come looking for her in the middle of the night.
If that was the case, why couldn’t she just tell her?
Perhaps it was something Jiang Chi couldn’t share with anyone, something she had to bear alone.
Wen Wen climbed onto the bed, moved the pillow placed between them aside, and pinched her earlobe: “This is my home. Where could I run to? Sleep peacefully.”
Jiang Chi took her hand and nuzzled it against her cheek: “Sister, if I wake up and don’t see you, I’ll really cry enough to flood your house.”
Wen Wen pinched her nose: “What else can you do besides threaten me?”
“Sister, you don’t mind it, do you?” Jiang Chi blinked, her dark eyes shining like stars in the night sky.
Wen Wen avoided her gaze and stood up: “I still have a document to finish. Sleep well.”
Jiang Chi grabbed her wrist: “Where are you going?”
Wen Wen looked at her for a moment, then gently removed her hand and placed it on the blanket: “I’m not leaving. I’ll just sit on the couch here. If you wake up tomorrow and don’t see me in the room, I’ll be in the study next door.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t abandon you. I really don’t want my house flooded with tears.” She reached out and pinched her earlobe again.
“Sister, I need a nightlight to sleep.”
“Mm, I know. Don’t worry about anything. Just sleep.”
Jiang Chi was already drowsy. Hearing this, she obediently closed her eyes, free of any worries now, and soon fell into a deep slumber.
After who knows how long, Wen Wen lifted her head from her computer and glanced at the peacefully sleeping figure on the bed, her lips curling slightly.
She leaned back against the sofa, propping her head up with her arm as she quietly admired the sight. If only life could always be like this.
A new email notification popped up on her computer.
Wen Wen opened it, it was a report just sent by a subordinate, containing only a brief paragraph of text and a few attached images.
[Miss Jiang went to Bai Yue Tong’s house tonight and made a scene, bringing Su Jing back with her. Midway, Miss Jiang broke up with him and kicked him out of the car. Then she drove straight to your place.]
Reading the contents, Wen Wen’s eyes narrowed slightly. Her fingertips tapped lightly on the edge of the keyboard as she pondered something.
After a moment, her gaze returned to the sleeping face on the bed.
So they broke up.
Was she this upset because of the breakup?
Clearly not. They had been together for three years, and every time they fought and broke up, Jiang Chi would come crying to her but never in a state like today.
Jiang Chi just what are you hiding?
Wen Wen set down her laptop and climbed onto the bed quietly, inching her way toward Jiang Chi. Propping herself up on her elbows, she gazed at the peacefully sleeping figure.
Her eyes traced every contour of Jiang Chi’s face, dark and intense, as if admiring the most precious treasure in the world. Her hovering hand finally settled down.
Her fingertips traced the curve of Jiang Chi’s brows.
Since we’ve broken up, why not love me instead?
She brushed against the long lashes.
You were the one who provoked me this time too.
Her fingers glided over the high bridge of the nose.
No matter what, I won’t let you run away again.
Finally, they lingered on those plump, tempting lips.
“Chi Chi, are you asleep?” she whispered, leaning in closer.
“You’re really asleep, aren’t you?”
Their lips were now just a hair’s breadth apart.
“If you keep pretending to sleep, I’ll leave.”
The figure beneath her showed no reaction whatsoever.
Wen Wen closed the remaining distance, pressing her lips firmly against Jiang Chi’s.
The sheer curtains billowed in the night breeze, allowing a sliver of moonlight to spill into the room. Bathed in that ethereal glow, she stole a kiss.
The next day, Jiang Chi woke leisurely from her slumber, her bleary eyes still unfocused. The first thing she did was scan the room for Wen Wen.
Not finding her there, she got out of bed and headed straight for the adjacent study.
Pushing the door open, she spotted Wen Wen seated behind the desk, her attention fixed on the computer screen.
“Jie Jie,” Jiang Chi called out sleepily, rubbing her eyes as she walked in. “What are you doing?”
Wen Wen froze at the sight of her approaching. It wasn’t until Jiang Chi bent down right in front of her that she snapped out of it, immediately turning off the camera and microphone for her video conference before messaging her assistant: Have them wait a moment.
Wen Wen stood up and led Jiang Chi out of the study. Unbeknownst to her, those few words from Jiang Chi and that fleeting half-second glimpse of her face had already sent the company’s boss-less group chat into complete chaos.
For weary office workers, nothing was more enticing than gossip about their boss!
[What just happened? Was that Jiang Chi?]
[I saw it too. Didn’t our boss strictly forbid any mention of Jiang Chi after their fight? No discussing her at work, no letting her into the company? And now, she’s just casually brought her home? Fresh as a daisy?]
[More than just brought home! Haven’t you heard? Our Wen even went on a dating show for her! There are tons of leaks online.]
[Yeah, the internet’s full of shippers for Wen and Jiang Chi! People have been making tons of fan edits using clips from their dramas, century-spanning tragic love, chase-and-escape melodrama, tooth-rotting fluff, bittersweet unrequited love. Name your trope, I’ve got the edit! DM me if you want to see!]
[Me!!!]
Soon, the chat was flooded with a neat column of “+1″s.
[Also! Insider info! A friend working on that dating show says Wen treats Jiang Chi like absolute royalty!]
[I refuse to believe it! Wen’s always been kind, but I can’t even imagine her doting on someone like that! When does the show air?!]
[Officially announced, first episode tonight! I need to see this legendary pampering for myself!]
The group chat was quickly flooded with rows of “Let me see what’s going on” memes.
Dragged out of the study by Wen Wen, Jiang Chi was still a bit dazed: “What’s wrong?”
Wen Wen: “I was just in a video conference.”
“Oh?” Jiang Chi didn’t think much of it, yawning, “Then why didn’t you let me say hi to them?”
Indeed, it wasn’t a big deal. She could have just let Jiang Chi greet everyone.
The problem was Jiang Chi’s current appearance.
Her hair was slightly disheveled, her sleepy face still groggy, wearing pajamas with a Doraemon print, collar slightly askew. She was clearly still in that half-awake state, looking adorably childlike yet undeniably charming.
This version of Jiang Chi, she didn’t want anyone else to see.
She wanted to keep her hidden.
“Sister?” Seeing no response, Jiang Chi waved a hand in front of Wen Wen’s face, suddenly feeling a bit guilty. “Sister? Did I disturb you?”
Wen Wen snapped out of it: “No, are you hungry?”
The topic shifted too abruptly. Jiang Chi froze for two seconds before turning to glance at the wall clock in the living room, her eyes widening in surprise.
It was already 11:30 in the morning. She’d slept that long! And hadn’t been startled awake by nightmares in between!
This feeling of ease, she hadn’t experienced it in so long that she inexplicably felt like crying.
Wen Wen, noticing her suddenly crumpled expression, quickly asked, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
“No.” Jiang Chi shook her head, exhaling silently. She patted her stomach and looked up at the other woman, slightly embarrassed. “I guess I am a little hungry. What should we eat?”
Confirming she was fine, Wen Wen said, “I gave the housekeeper the day off. Order some takeout, then go freshen up. The food should arrive by the time I finish the meeting, and we’ll eat together.”
Jiang Chi nodded eagerly, then suddenly realized something and called out, “Sister, what do you like to eat?”
Wen Wen paused mid-step: “Just order what you like.”
She was about to walk away again, but Jiang Chi wouldn’t have it, stepping in front of her. “No way! I want to get to know you better too. Tell me what you like to eat.”
Want to know her better? Wen Wen’s gaze deepened, emotions swirling indistinctly in her eyes as she studied Jiang Chi’s face. After a long hesitation, she finally asked, “Why do you want to know me? It’s not like we’ll be living together. There’s no need to know so much.”
“Who says we won’t live together someday.” The words were barely louder than a mosquito’s buzz.
Wen Wen narrowed her eyes, tilting her head slightly. “What did you say?”
“Oh! I mean, even good friends should understand each other! Any relationship needs effort from both sides to last!” Jiang Chi declared emphatically, nodding to affirm her point.
“Good friends again.” Wen Wen murmured. Staring at Jiang Chi, she wondered if this blockhead would ever catch on. With a silent sigh, she headed back to the study, saying over her shoulder, “Then order some pig brain soup. And get Six Walnuts for drinks.”
“Got it!” Jiang Chi chimed brightly.
Pulling out her phone, she opened the delivery app. As she added Six Walnuts to the cart, she considered buying extra, Wen Wen clearly used her brain a lot daily.
Yes, she needed proper nourishment.
Thinking this, Jiang Chi ordered ten cases of Six Walnuts in one go. Just as she put down her phone, a thought suddenly struck her. Her dark, bright eyes rolled around as she reopened the delivery app and added another ten pounds of walnuts to her order.
Satisfied with her actions, she set her phone aside and went to freshen up.
By the time she finished, the delivery hadn’t arrived yet. Glancing at the closed study door, she decided not to disturb and instead sat on the sofa, idly playing with her phone until boredom struck. She stood up and wandered around the living room.
Still no delivery.
Meandering to the study door, she scratched at it with her fingers before turning the handle and poking her head in, gazing at Wen Wen with eager eyes.
Wen Wen paused her meeting and motioned for her to enter.
Jiang Chi beamed and swiftly appeared before her, but simply stood there smiling without saying a word.
It was Wen Wen who broke the silence, her tone teasing: “What? Did sleeping too long turn you into a little fool?”
Jiang Chi shook her head: “No, I just wanted to look at you. Can I stay here?”
Wen Wen opened her mouth to refuse, but upon seeing Jiang Chi’s pitiful, pleading eyes, the words did a U-turn in her mouth and were swallowed. Instead, she said: “Fine. Go sit quietly on the sofa and don’t disturb me.”
“Okay! I promise to be good!”
But soon, Wen Wen regretted her soft-hearted decision to let Jiang Chi stay in the study.
True to her word, Jiang Chi sat obediently on the sofa without uttering a sound. However, Wen Wen hadn’t anticipated that Jiang Chi would simply sit there motionless, staring at her.
The intensity of that gaze made it impossible to ignore.
Her feelings were conflicted. Deep down, she craved Jiang Chi’s attention wanted those eyes to remain fixed on her forever, watching only her.
But now, she hadn’t absorbed a single word of her subordinates’ reports and couldn’t focus on her work at all.
Just as she was contemplating how to send Jiang Chi away, the doorbell came to her rescue.
Jiang Chi’s face lit up with joy, but she didn’t immediately dash out. Instead, she first gestured toward the door, signaling to Wen Wen, before finally getting up to leave.
It was such a small gesture, yet it inexplicably touched the softest part of Wen Wen’s heart.
Having spent most of her childhood alone in an empty house, she had often felt forgotten. But that feeling had disappeared entirely since Jiang Chi came into her life.
Jiang Chi always noticed her in the smallest things, always made sure she knew she wasn’t forgotten that someone held her in their heart.
Wen Wen watched that cheerful retreating figure, lost in thought.
Until the voice in her earphones called her name for what must have been the umpteenth time.
She snapped back to attention: “How many more reports are left?”
The subordinate in her ear replied: “President Wen, I’m the last one.”
“Mm.” Wen Wen acknowledged. “Get to the point.”
As the voice in her ear droned on, a head peeked through the door again. Jiang Chi made an eating gesture at her before withdrawing.
Finally, the meeting concluded. Wen Wen raised a few points for improvement before ending the video call.
Stepping out of the study, the sight in the living room left her rooted to the spot.
Five cases of Six Walnuts were already piled in the center of the room, and Jiang Chi was still carrying more in from the doorway, a case in each hand.
Seeing her, Jiang Chi said happily, “Sister, are you done? Come help me move these. There are three more boxes outside.”
“Three more?” That would make ten boxes in total. “Why did you buy so much?”
“They’re all for nourishing your brain! You’ve been working so hard, staying up late to handle documents, your brain cells must be dying in droves. I thought I’d stock up for you so you can grab one whenever you want. Oh, and I also bought ten pounds of walnuts. So, am I considerate or what?”
Jiang Chi stared at Wen Wen, her face practically screaming, “Praise me now!”
Unfortunately, the other person merely chuckled softly before turning to walk out the door.
Watching the heartless retreating figure, Jiang Chi pouted in dissatisfaction. She bent down to place the six walnuts she was holding, then straightened up and turned around just in time to see a figure flash by. The next second, she felt two warm, soft lips press against her cheek.
The contact was fleeting.
Jiang Chi froze on the spot, her gaze slowly shifting to the “enchantress” beside her, who was grinning mischievously with an alluring charm.
“That expression, why so shocked? Weren’t you just staring at me eagerly, waiting for a reward?” Wen Wen rested her hands on Jiang Chi’s shoulders, leaning in to whisper by her ear, “So, was this reward satisfactory?”
“Not satisfactory.”
Not satisfactory at all.
Not even close.
This mere peck on the cheek this shallow, fleeting touch was nowhere near enough.
Jiang Chi turned sideways, wrapping an arm around the other’s waist, and leaned in.
