Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 19
“Sister, are you… jealous?”
Had she been that obvious lately?
Wen Wen immediately reflected on her recent behavior, she had indeed been somewhat impatient. If she were discovered now… Her steady heartbeat suddenly accelerated, her pinky twitching slightly. Turning her head, she met Jiang Chi’s probing gaze. Just as she was about to deny it, Jiang Chi spoke first:
“Sister, are you the type who gets really possessive over friends?”
“What a coincidence, so am I! The friend who’s number one in my heart can have many friends, but I must always be her top priority!”
Jiang Chi blinked, her eyes fixed on Wen Wen’s.
“So don’t be jealous, sister. I promise, if we become good friends, no matter how many friends I make in the future, you’ll always be my No. 1!”
Her expression was earnest, her tone resolute.
Wen Wen sighed silently. She should have known, Jiang Chi was as dense as a block of wood. She chose not to respond and instead turned toward the spot arranged by the production team. “Let’s go. We should make the most of our practice time.”
Jiang Chi caught up and looped her arm through Wen Wen’s. “Sister, there’s nothing embarrassing about being jealous over a friend. If you ever treat someone else as well as you treat me, I’d definitely get jealous too.”
“I’m not jealous,” Wen Wen replied dismissively. She was jealous, just not in the way Jiang Chi thought. If she admitted the truth now, Jiang Chi would probably be shocked.
“Then will you make me jealous?” Jiang Chi stepped in front of her, pouting with exaggerated hurt.
Why is she the one acting aggrieved now? Wen Wen sighed, sidestepping her and walking ahead, tossing back a reply: “That depends on your performance.”
Jiang Chi instantly brightened and hurried after her. “My performance will be flawless!”
Wen Wen glanced at her but said nothing.
The group of guests gathered around a long table as the instructor gave one-on-one demonstrations on how to assemble a skateboard. Jiang Chi’s gaze swept over everyone’s hands, briefly meeting Su Jing’s ambiguous look before ignoring it entirely. She blinked and turned to Wen Wen. “Sister, this seems really hard. If I’m slow to learn, promise you won’t get annoyed with me?”
Wen Wen was sorting and arranging the necessary tools. Without looking up, she replied, “If I were going to get annoyed with you, it would’ve happened long ago.”
Far from annoyance, the only emotion that had grown stronger over the past twenty years was affection.
Jiang Chi blew her a playful kiss from a distance. “Sister, you’re the best!”
Perhaps because Wen Wen was a good teacher, Jiang Chi, though the last to start learning was the first to master the assembly. She tapped the skateboard deck with her fingers and tilted her head at Wen Wen. “Sister, am I amazing?”
Her dark eyes sparkled, her entire face screaming Praise me!
Wen Wen reached out and ruffled her hair approvingly. “Mm, very amazing.”
Jiang Chi picked up the skateboard. “Then teach me how to ride now. I can’t wait!”
“Wait.”
Wen Wen grabbed her wrist before she could dash off.
Jiang Chi turned back, puzzled. “What’s wrong?”
Wen Wen retrieved a set of red protective gear and began fastening it onto Jiang Chi herself. “Beginners need proper protection, or you’ll get hurt.”
Jiang Chi blinked, leaning closer to Wen Wen, who was focused on adjusting the gear. “Sister, would you ever let me get hurt?”
Wen Wen looked up and found herself gazing into a pair of eyes that resembled a sea of stars. After a moment’s hesitation, she lowered her gaze. “I don’t know how, but with sports, accidents can happen.”
After putting on their protective gear, the two arrived at an open space. Jiang Chi eagerly helped Wen Wen onto the skateboard, but the latter helplessly curled her lips and lightly patted her waist. “Get down.”
Jiang Chi didn’t understand why but obediently stepped off, standing to the side like a child who had done something wrong.
Wen Wen raised an eyebrow slightly. “What’s wrong?”
Jiang Chi looked up at her with pitiful eyes, then immediately lowered her gaze again, her voice full of grievance. “Sister, you’re so mean.”
Wen Wen: “…”
Realizing she had unconsciously spoken more sternly out of concern for Jiang Chi’s safety, Wen Wen sighed silently. Just like before, if she wasn’t indulged, Jiang Chi would act like a child whose candy had been taken away.
Walking over, Wen Wen lifted Jiang Chi’s chin and said softly, “I don’t want you to get hurt, so follow my instructions, okay?”
Jiang Chi’s expression instantly brightened, as if the rain had cleared. She grabbed the finger under her chin and replied obediently, “Okay! I’ll listen to you, sister!”
Wen Wen hooked her leg, bringing the skateboard smoothly to a stop in front of Jiang Chi. “Here, try stepping on with your left foot first and push off a few times.”
Jiang Chi asked obediently, “How many times is a few?”
Wen Wen: “Three back-and-forths.”
Jiang Chi did as instructed.
Wen Wen: “Now the same with your right foot.”
After repeating the motion with her right foot, Jiang Chi stood obediently, waiting for Wen Wen’s next command.
“Which foot feels more comfortable pushing off?”
Jiang Chi answered immediately, “Right foot.”
Wen Wen: “Alright, then from now on, place your right foot at the front of the board when you step on.”
Jiang Chi nodded quickly.
Wen Wen: “Now I’ll teach you how to step onto the board properly.”
“Okay.” Jiang Chi stared at Wen Wen with eager anticipation.
Wen Wen demonstrated while explaining, “When stepping on, place your right foot above the four screws, then hold onto your right knee with both hands. This way, your body leans forward, keeping your center of gravity low and stable it’s safer.”
Jiang Chi nodded repeatedly, like a diligent student absorbing every word.
“Getting off is the same. Got it? Should I demonstrate again?”
Jiang Chi shook her head. “No need, I want to try it myself.”
Wen Wen: “You can try, but don’t push off yet. Take it step by step first, get comfortable balancing on the board.”
Jiang Chi playfully saluted. “Yes, sir!”
Eagerly, she stepped onto the skateboard, carefully replicating Wen Wen’s earlier movements. Before switching positions, she would glance at Wen Wen for approval before proceeding.
Throughout the process, Jiang Chi’s expression remained serious, as if she were handling a task of utmost importance that allowed no carelessness.
Wen Wen was surprised. In her memories, Jiang Chi always wore a bright, sunny smile. Just seeing the curve of her eyes would make Wen Wen feel as if the whole world had brightened.
To her, this feeling was peculiar.
Logically, Wen Wen never considered her world dark. Her parents doted on her, her grandparents adored her. If anything was missing, it was that she was an only child. When she was young, the adults in her large, five-story villa were often busy, leaving her alone. During those times, loneliness would creep in like the tide, engulfing the entire mansion.
By the age of four, when her grandfather was reassigned, Wen Wen’s family moved to a new city. On their very first day in the new home, she met Jiang Chi, a slightly taller girl with crescent-shaped eyes that sparkled like ink, and a smile brighter than the sun that day, seemingly capable of dispelling all the loneliness from past nights.
True to Wen Wen’s expectations, Jiang Chi did indeed take away all the loneliness in her world, making life lively and vibrant wherever she was.
In her memories, Jiang Chi had always been confident and composed. Such a serious and earnest expression Wen Wen had only seen it once before.
“Sis?”
Jiang Chi safely stepped off her skateboard, beaming with excitement, hoping for praise from Wen Wen, only to find her lost in thought.
Whatever had captured her attention so deeply, it took three calls before Wen Wen finally snapped out of it.
Wen Wen took a step back, avoiding the suddenly magnified pretty face in front of her, and cleared her throat. “You’ve got it down?”
“You weren’t paying attention, sis.” Instead of answering, Jiang Chi stepped closer, narrowing her eyes slightly. “What were you looking at just now?”
Following the direction of Wen Wen’s dazed gaze, Jiang Chi wasn’t surprised to find Su Jing at the end of her line of sight.
Staring at someone so intently that you zone out wasn’t that exactly how she had acted when she was most infatuated with Su Jing back then?
It was hard to describe the feeling. A surge of frustration rose from the depths of her heart, only to be doused by a bucket of cold water, leaving Jiang Chi momentarily unsure of how to react.
But even if she were willing to let Wen Wen and Su Jing be alone together, the plot wouldn’t allow it, would it?
An inexplicable, helpless sorrow washed over her.
Could she really make Wen Wen not like Su Jing?
Could she truly break free from the plot’s control? Maybe she didn’t even know how to completely escape it.
Could she really change her fate in this lifetime?
And even if she tried, could she really keep Wen Wen by her side forever?
One question after another popped into her head. The fear she had deliberately ignored and buried for so long now seeped into her like water, flooding her mouth, nose and eyes.
She couldn’t breathe.
But at the critical moment, a hand lifted her chin.
“What’s wrong?”
In Wen Wen’s eyes, Jiang Chi’s gaze was glistening, clear and bright, like a little puppy drenched in water.
Heartbreakingly pitiful.
Wen Wen was baffled. Hadn’t she just spaced out for a moment?
How had she missed so many shifts in Jiang Chi’s emotions?
“Sis, you don’t have to force yourself to teach me. You should do what you want to do.” Go find Su Jing. Jiang Chi sniffled, turning her face away from Wen Wen’s hand. “I’ll just ask Coach Li to teach me.”
What was she hearing? Wen Wen’s brows furrowed as she turned Jiang Chi’s face back toward her, her voice low and cold. “Explain first. What did I do to make you, this upset?”
Seeing that Jiang Chi wasn’t just being unreasonable that she genuinely seemed hurt, Wen Wen’s tone softened involuntarily.
“Sis, I’m scared.” Jiang Chi wrapped her arms around her, burying her face in Wen Wen’s neck.
Wen Wen was about to speak when a scalding teardrop landed on her shoulder, making her flinch.
Jiang Chi… was crying?
In all the time they’d known each other, she had never seen Jiang Chi cry.
And the first time she did, it was because of her?
Wait was it really because of her?
Before Jiang Chi’s mood shifted, she had clearly glanced in Su Jing’s direction first. Wen Wen followed her gaze and saw Su Jing chatting and laughing with Bai Yuetong’s instructor. Bai Yuetong was attempting to skate, with both of them flanking her protectively, Bai Yuetong was practically nestled in Su Jing’s arms.
Was this scene what upset her?
What was she afraid of? Afraid that Su Jing might truly not like her?
Wen Wen clenched her fist before gently placing a hand on Jiang Chi’s back, asking softly, “What are you afraid of?”
What could she say?
That she had transmigrated into this world from a book? That she had awakened to the truth, knowing her predetermined fate but being unable to escape the plot’s control?
If she voiced these thoughts, people would probably think she was insane.
Sometimes, she wished she really were crazy.
“I’m afraid I won’t learn properly and hold you back,” Jiang Chi tightened her embrace, venting her frustration. “I’m so scared, and you’re not even teaching me seriously. I’m so pitiful, wuwuwu…”
The heavy weight in her heart seemed to lift abruptly, and Wen Wen inexplicably felt relieved. Whether Jiang Chi had made up an excuse to brush her off didn’t matter as long as Jiang Chi said it, she would believe it.
Wen Wen patted her back gently. “Alright, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have spaced out while teaching you. I promise it won’t happen again, okay?”
Her voice was as cool and soothing as a mountain hot spring, flowing gently yet refreshing the soul.
Jiang Chi felt most of her fear dissipate. Sniffling, she straightened up, her eyes rimmed red like a rabbit’s, and pouted pitifully. “Sister, just look at me, okay?”
Not at that awful man.
Wen Wen froze momentarily. Earlier, during her competition, she had made the same request to Jiang Chi. Now that Jiang Chi was asking the same of her, she should have been happy. Yet, for some reason, her heart ached faintly.
She had made that request out of affection but what about Jiang Chi? She didn’t know the reason, but it certainly wasn’t the same as hers.
Even so, she agreed. “Okay.”
After all, her eyes had only ever been on her.
Like a rain-drenched match suddenly reigniting, Jiang Chi’s sorrow instantly turned to joy. “Sister, you have to keep your word, or else you have to give me all your assets.”
Give yourself to me, and I’d give you my life.
The words swirled in her mouth, nearly slipping out.
Wen Wen redirected her focus to skateboarding. “You’ve got the basics down. Now, let’s work on moving. Pay attention to how your body feels.”
Jiang Chi stepped onto the skateboard as instructed, testing her balance. She glanced down at the board beneath her feet, she was genuinely interested in this, or rather, in anything that looked cool when done well. But when it came to actually doing it, fear crept in.
She placed one foot down and held onto Wen Wen’s arm, locking eyes with her seriously. “Sister, you have to hold me steady. You promised you wouldn’t let me get hurt.”
Seeing her trying so hard to mask her unease with a brave face, Wen Wen felt as if a kitten were scratching at her heart. She smirked, leaning in closer to whisper, “You can fall into my arms anytime. I’ll always catch you.”
Warm breath brushed against her ear, sending a ticklish shiver down her skin. Jiang Chi turned her head away, coughing lightly. “Then I’ll just let myself fall wait, no, I mean, I’ll learn with confidence!”
Jiang Chi lightly pressed her foot on the ground, generating momentum that sent the skateboard gliding forward.
Wen Wen stood nearby, ready to catch her at any moment.
After skating for a few minutes, Jiang Chi felt confident. With Wen Wen’s permission, she picked up speed slightly just then, Su Jing suddenly appeared right in her path!
Using the emergency braking method Wen Wen had taught her, Jiang Chi managed to stop in time. For a split second, she even considered crashing into him, let this scumbag get what he deserved, since he was the one who had appeared out of nowhere. But the thought of getting hurt herself, possibly even falling onto him, made her quickly abandon the idea.
Still a beginner, Jiang Chi hadn’t fully mastered her balance yet. This sudden “disaster from the heavens” threw her off completely. Though she managed to halt her momentum, her body tilted uncontrollably to one side.
Just as she was about to meet the ground face-first, a pair of slender, snow-white hands caught her firmly at the last moment.
Jiang Chi exhaled in relief.
Wen Wen helped her up, asking anxiously, “Are you okay? Did you twist your ankle?”
Jiang Chi squeezed her fingers reassuringly to show she was fine.
With a sharp click, she flipped the skateboard up and gripped it in one hand. Using the other end, she pressed it against Su Jing’s shoulder and pushed him away, her voice icy. “If you’re sick, run to a hospital. I’m not a doctor, what’s the point of rushing at me?”
Anyone could see how dangerous his actions were like someone suddenly darting in front of a speeding car on the highway.
Strictly speaking, even the fate she suffered in her past life couldn’t be entirely blamed on Su Jing. After all, this was originally a fictional world, and characters were merely shaped by the author’s design.
But despite that, she couldn’t help the resentment and hatred festering inside her. To her, this was no longer just a story, it was her living, breathing reality.
And the reality was, she was still being deceived by this man, still unable to break free from him.
Her bitterness only grew with time, swelling larger each day. She didn’t know if it would interfere with her efforts to escape the plot’s control, but she couldn’t stop it.
“I’m sorry, Jiang Jiang. I didn’t mean to just stand there,” Su Jing said, his expression full of sorrow. “I was timing your speed, planning to run past you, but when I got closer, I got mesmerized just looking at you.”
His voice was a mix of bashfulness and regret.
In truth, he had been testing whether Jiang Chi would hesitate to hurt him that’s why he’d deliberately stopped in her way.
The result proved she’d rather injure herself than let him suffer.
Watching his act, Jiang Chi felt her stomach churn. A thousand-year-old wolf pretending to be an innocent boy, how revolting.
Maybe today’s incident wasn’t entirely bad. Taking a deep breath, she spoke with deliberate emphasis. “Listen, Mr. Su. From now on, unless absolutely necessary, stay out of my sight. Do you understand?”
The “lovestruck youth” act vanished from Su Jing’s eyes in an instant. But he was a master of masks, always presenting his best self. Even in situations like this, he remained composed, his expression barely flickering.
A flash of malice crossed his face before he smoothed it back into his usual gentle demeanor, though a hint of grievance lingered between his brows. “Jiang Jiang, I really didn’t mean to upset you. Don’t act out of anger.”
Only Jiang Chi understood the implied meaning behind Su Jing’s words: I’m giving you a chance, don’t push your luck.
“I’m being serious.” From her tone to her expression, she was utterly serious or rather, solemn without a trace of impulsiveness. Jiang Chi controlled her expression, refusing to let disgust show. It was the last shred of dignity she would grant him.
Seeing her like this, Su Jing froze. It was the first time he had seen Jiang Chi like this, exuding an icy aura so sharp it sent chills down his spine.
This woman, no matter how angry she had been in the past, she had always reined in her temper around him. Because she knew he had little patience to coddle her.
Throwing a tantrum was fine, but if she went too far, the only outcome would be a clean break.
There was no way this woman would actually leave him.
He admitted that this provocation had been ill-advised in every way, but was it really necessary for her to react like this?
An inexplicable shiver ran through him, followed by a surge of anger. This was the last chance he would give Jiang Chi.
Suppressing his turbulent emotions, he said coldly, “I was wrong today. Let’s both calm down first.”
With that, Su Jing turned and left.
Jiang Chi watched his retreating figure, her gaze sharpening slightly. Fine, then I’ll find the right time to properly break up with him.
Given the current narrative trajectory, if she wanted to initiate the breakup, Wen Wen would have to be present.
And before that, she’d have to make sure Wen Wen also disliked that scumbag!
Meanwhile, two others had been observing the entire scene, Wen Wen’s devoted fan, the straight-banged girl, and the bespectacled girl who had been successfully converted into a supporter. Both stared at Su Jing’s back with unreadable expressions.
Straight Bangs muttered, “The way he spoke just now, it almost sounded like they were together?”
The bespectacled girl adjusted her glasses, a glint flashing across the lenses. “Needs further observation.”
Jiang Chi turned her head toward Wen Wen, and in that instant, the frost in her expression melted away, replaced by a pitiful look. “Sis, you scared me just now.”
Wen Wen narrowed her eyes slightly, staring straight at her.
Jiang Chi’s expression faltered. She touched her own face. “Wh-what? Why are you looking at me like that?”
Wen Wen crooked a finger, gesturing for her to come closer.
