Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 18.2
What did this mean? How did the topic suddenly shift here? But seeing how serious the other party was, Jiang Chi could only set aside her little schemes and put on an equally earnest face. Instead of answering, she countered: “Then, sister, would you invite me on a date?”
Leaning forward, her eyes sparkled with anticipation.
Wen Wen stared at her, her gaze equally deep and complex.
For a moment, neither spoke, locked in a silent standoff. The atmosphere was peaceful yet crackled with tension, leaving both feeling scorched.
After a pause, Wen Wen also answered with a question: “Does your answer have anything to do with whether I invite you or not?”
Jiang Chi: “Yes, I’d turn everyone down for you.”
Her eyes didn’t waver, her gaze steady.
A tingling sensation spread from Wen Wen’s heart, coursing through every cell to her limbs.
She knew Jiang Chi’s words carried no romantic intent, yet her heart swelled uncontrollably, her little finger trembling beneath her arm.
She clenched her fist discreetly.
To conceal her emotions, her relaxed expression suddenly tensed slightly.
Jiang Chi noticed. Had her words sounded too much like a player’s line? She pondered perhaps they had. Instantly shifting gears, she slumped onto the table like a deflated doll, gazing pitifully at Wen Wen: “Sis, I wanna go on a date with you~”
Before Wen Wen could respond, another figure intervened.
Ji Mei shot Jiang Chi, a disdainful glance before turning to Wen Wen with sudden sweetness: “Wen-jie, I wanna go on a date with you!”
Her tone and expression mimicked Jiang Chi’s perfectly.
Jiang Chi smirked, propping her chin lazily on one hand: “Miss Ji, ever heard of a saying?”
Ji Mei’s sweet facade darkened instantly: “What are you getting at?”
“Me?” Jiang Chi tapped her cheek leisurely with slender fingers, her smile not reaching her eyes. “I’m saying, aping others only invites ridicule, not results.”
“Who’s the ape and who’s the beauty remains to be seen,” Ji Mei scoffed. “Who knows what tricks you used to force Wen-jie into that date yesterday.”
Jiang Chi genuinely reflected on yesterday’s events, nodding: “True, I did use some tricks.” She beckoned Ji Mei closer. “Hey, want me to teach you?”
A flicker of interest crossed Ji Mei’s face. After hesitation, she leaned in.
Mischief flashed in Jiang Chi’s eyes as she whispered: “Dream on. Think I’d arm you to seduce my person?”
Though Wen Wen didn’t catch the words, she noted her puppy’s telltale expression clearly no legitimate “secrets” were shared.
Yet, Wen Wen narrowed her eyes at their proximity. Too close.
Sure enough, Ji Mei’s face darkened with rage after hearing Jiang Chi. But before she could retort, the puppy preemptively whined: “Sis, you went willingly yesterday, right? I didn’t force you. She won’t believe me, glared at me sis, she’s so mean!”
“You just admitted you used underhanded methods!” Ji Mei said angrily, her voice trembling. “If you won’t tell me, fine, but you’re making fun of me! I—I—”
Her words faltered for a moment before she turned to Wen Wen with watery eyes, looking as if she might burst into tears at any second. “Sister, you tell me, isn’t she just bullying me too much?”
Tell her? But…
Her judgment would always lean toward Jiang Chi.
Jiang Chi tilted her head, blinking innocently at Wen Wen, continuing her act of grievance. “See, sister? She’s glaring at me again. I’m so scared, what if she hits me?” She wrapped her arms around herself, leaning back slightly, her dark, bright eyes wide like a startled puppy.
This wasn’t the time to laugh, but Wen Wen really wanted to. Her little puppy was just too adorable.
So adorable that every cell in her body wanted to keep her all to herself.
But wanting was one thing, Wen Wen had no shortage of self-control. If she willed it, that restraint could double. Not only did she not laugh, but her expression didn’t flicker in the slightest. She tore her gaze from Jiang Chi, lifting it slightly to the teary-eyed girl standing before her. “All I’ll say is, you shouldn’t be here interrupting our meal.”
Her tone was indifferent, yet it sent a chill down the listener’s spine.
Ji Mei instantly grew even more aggrieved, tears threatening to spill. “Sister Wen, I just wanted to show you my sincerity. I want to go on a date with you.”
Circling back to the topic, she quickly wiped away her distress and declared confidently, “Sister, go out with me! I promise you’ll have an unforgettable experience!”
Wen Wen glanced at her before shifting her gaze back to Jiang Chi, who now had puffed cheeks, clearly displeased and sulking as she stared at her.
Her puppy even angry, she was adorable.
Wen Wen actually wanted to tease her a little more, to see more of those expressive reactions. But more than that, she wanted to keep seeing her puppy happy and smug.
Just as she was about to refuse, an unexpected voice cut in. “Miss Wen, I’d also like to go on a date with you.”
Shy but firm.
Jiang Chi turned to Bai Yue Tong in shock, what was the female lead doing butting in?
And that wasn’t all. The moment Bai Yue Tong finished speaking, another voice chimed in. “Sister Wen, I… I also want to go on a date with you.”
Hesitant but full of longing.
What was happening now?
Jiang Chi stared in bewilderment at the human barricade forming in front of her. What was this? Yesterday they were sneaky about it, and today they were just openly competing?
Wen Wen was hers!
“Sister, Miss Wen, Sister Wen,” Jiang Chi called out sourly, repeating all three nicknames others had used for Wen Wen. She listlessly picked up her chopsticks to grab some food, muttering, “Ugh, so annoying. Some people won’t even let others eat in peace, spouting nonsense that ruins the appetite.”
Her voice was full of frustration, but also helplessness.
“Ah, what a shame such a waste of a perfectly good meal.”
Wen Wen chuckled softly. When she looked up again, a faint smile still lingered on her lips. Her peach-blossom eyes curved slightly, exuding a captivating charm, but the warmth didn’t reach her gaze, instead radiating an invisible pressure. “Did you hear that? You’re standing here, ruining my date’s appetite for tomorrow.”
The air fell silent for three seconds. Jiang Chi was the first to react.
She sprang to her feet, bypassing the three people in front of her, and quickly approached Wen Wen. Her dark eyes sparkled like stars in the sky, brimming with delight. “Sister, what did you just say?”
“Tsk…” Wen Wen feigned reluctance. “If you didn’t hear it, then forget it.”
“No!” Jiang Chi half-knelt before Wen Wen, hands resting on her thighs like a petulant child, protesting indignantly. “You said I’m your date tomorrow! You just said it! I heard you! You can’t take it back!”
It took the three stacked-up men a moment to realize they had just been collectively rejected.
Wen Wen steadied herself against the table, looking down at the shameless person crouched before her. “Didn’t you just say you didn’t hear it?”
“I…” Jiang Chi hesitated, then rested her head on Wen Wen’s thigh, gazing up at her with a slight pout. “I just wanted you to say it again. And these people clearly didn’t hear it, they’re still standing here shamelessly refusing to leave.”
Wen Wen stared at those pursed lips, small and cherry-like, plump and rosy, feeling an urge to lean down and kiss them.
Desire surged, her body reacting subtly. Wen Wen shifted her leg uncomfortably.
Not answering her question and now trying to push her away? No way. Fueled by some newfound courage, perhaps from Wen Wen’s repeated indulgence, Jiang Chi grabbed her wrist, guiding her index finger into her mouth and giving it a gentle bite.
Wen Wen’s legs trembled slightly, her gaze darkening.
She looked up to see Jiang Chi lightly biting her finger while glaring at her fiercely, like a neglected puppy seeking attention.
Her eyes swept over those red lips and the finger caught between them, stirring a wild impulse to thrust her finger deeper and roughly tangle with the soft tongue inside.
She bit down hard on the inside of her lower lip, tearing herself away from the tangled fantasies, and withdrew her finger. Cupping Jiang Chi’s face, she urged her to stand.
Jiang Chi wanted to stay put after all, Wen Wen hadn’t directly answered her question yet.
Wen Wen helped her up, her tone leaving no room for argument. “Be good. Your legs will go numb if you stay like this.”
Only she knew how close her self-control was to snapping.
Jiang Chi snapped back to reality at Wen Wen’s unusually stern tone, suddenly realizing the audacity of what she’d just done.
Had she lost her mind? She’d actually bitten Wen Wen?
She’d bitten her?
She really had!
And in such a public place, under the gaze of cameras no less!
Jiang Chi admitted she was the type to get carried away with the slightest encouragement. Wen Wen’s repeated indulgence had her feeling like she could conquer the cosmos, if she had a tail, it would already be wagging in outer space.
So, maybe her recklessness wasn’t entirely her fault.
Still, she ought to be grateful Wen Wen had the grace not to slap her away and even worried about her legs going numb.
Would Wen Wen really take back her promise because of this?
Just as she was about to apologize, Wen Wen spoke first, her expression earnest. “Yes, you’re my date tomorrow. No take-backs, and I won’t change my mind.”
Then, turning to the three behind Jiang Chi, her tone remained calm but carried a clear warning. “So please don’t disturb our meal any further.”
Her gaze swept over them before landing on Su Jing, who was approaching from a distance.
Su Jing lowered her gaze slightly to look at Jiang Chi, her eyes filled with deep affection and disappointment: “Jiang Jiang, do you really not want to go on a date with me?”
Like a game of Dou Dizhu, as soon as Su Jing finished speaking, Ji Mei jumped in: “Wen-jie, I’d also love to go on a date with you. Life is all about trying new things, right~”
While coquettishly clinging to Wen Wen, she still found time to shoot Jiang Chi a glare.
Jiang Chi found it all rather amusing. She turned to Su Jing with a serious expression: “First, I really don’t want to go on a date with you.”
“Second.” She leaned closer to Ji Mei, but before she could finish her sentence, someone grabbed her wrist. Turning back, she saw Wen Wen’s calm reminder: “Speak properly.”
Jiang Chi instantly pouted: “Jiejie, do you think I’m being unreasonable?”
Wen Wen shook her head slightly: “I mean speak properly without getting too close.”
Jiang Chi immediately brightened up. Hooking her arm around Wen Wen’s, she cast a triumphant glance at someone who still refused to give up: “Jiejie, why don’t you tell her? Do you want to ‘try new things’?”
Instead of answering, Wen Wen asked: “Do you want to?”
The question seemed nonsensical, but Jiang Chi instantly understood her meaning.
“I don’t!” she declared without hesitation, resting her head on Wen Wen’s shoulder and nuzzling her neck. “I only want to go on dates with jiejie.”
Feeling the ticklish sensation on her neck, Wen Wen didn’t retreat but instead held Jiang Chi’s restless head in place, saying to Ji Mei: “My answer is the same as hers.”
“Wen-jie, I won’t give up!”
Ji Mei angrily threw out these words, glared at Jiang Chi once more, and ran off.
Resting her chin on Wen Wen’s shoulder, Jiang Chi looked at her with sparkling dark eyes: “Jiejie, apart from one flaw, you’re really perfect.”
Wen Wen’s heart skipped a beat as she blurted out: “What flaw?”
Jiang Chi straightened up, shook her head, and returned to her seat: “Well, I can’t tell you that yet. When the time is right, I’ll let you know.”
Wen Wen lowered her eyes in thought for a moment before looking up, gazing seriously into Jiang Chi’s eyes: “Are you keeping something from me?”
Now that she thought about it, she’d been too presumptuous.
From the beginning, she’d assumed Jiang Chi was just “playing around,” so she was happy to play along. But she’d overlooked one thing, what if this “play” wasn’t Jiang Chi’s own idea, but someone else pulling strings behind the scenes.
There was undoubtedly nothing Jiang Chi could gain from her, or rather, nothing she needed to gain. But if it were Su Jing then there would be plenty to gain.
Moreover, the dynamic between these two was truly peculiar. One moment Jiang Chi would be all over Su Jing, the next she seemed to loathe her. Was Jiang Chi herself indecisive, or were the two putting on an act for her benefit.
“Huh?” Jiang Chi guiltily avoided her gaze, pretending to reach for food. “What could I be hiding? There’s nothing.”
She brought a freshly fried shrimp to Wen Wen’s lips: “Jiejie, this is delicious. Try it.”
The guilty expression lasted only a moment. Wen Wen stared at Jiang Chi, who now met her gaze with complete sincerity, and wondered if she’d imagined it earlier.
Looking down at the shrimp before her, she spoke softly but clearly enough for the person beside her to hear: “Jiang Chi, don’t conspire with others to deceive me. That’s my bottom line.”
Jiang Chi’s heart trembled at the sound of her full name. Her long, straight eyelashes cast shadows beneath her eyes, obscuring Wen Wen’s expression from view. Yet inexplicably, her initial guilt suddenly transformed into panic. Her wrist trembled involuntarily, causing the shrimp to slip from her chopsticks onto the table.
To any observer, this was clearly a sign of guilt.
The next second, Jiang Chi saw Wen Wen lift her head. Those usually calm, peach-blossom eyes that naturally carried an air of tenderness now seemed tinged with the melancholy of falling petals.
Seeing that gaze, Jiang Chi’s panic inexplicably intensified.
Why?
It felt as though some nerve in her body had misfired, sending tremors through her like misaligned gears.
“I promise,” Jiang Chi clenched her fists tightly, meeting Wen Wen’s eyes directly. “I would never lie to you, let alone conspire with others to deceive you.”
When Wen Wen remained silent, Jiang Chi grabbed her hand and pressed it against her own cheek, nuzzling into it. “Jiejie, believe me, okay? I really wouldn’t lie to you.”
Her gaze was earnest, her expression sincere.
Wen Wen closed her eyes briefly. When she reopened them, her usual composure had returned. She pinched Jiang Chi’s cheek lightly. “You’d better behave.”
Jiang Chi nuzzled into her palm again, innocent and sweet. “I’m always the best-behaved.”
Dinner concluded in a less-than-harmonious atmosphere, and afterward, the guests reconvened in the living room.
Not wanting to waste time, Director Xu got straight to the point. “Wen Wen, have you decided on your date for tomorrow?”
Jiang Chi reacted instantly, sitting up straight and raising her hand. “Me! Jiejie wants to go on a date with me!”
Director Xu cast an inquiring glance at Wen Wen, who chuckled softly and confirmed, “Yes, it’s still us tomorrow.”
Jiang Chi distinctly felt the weight of several complicated gazes directed at her, but she couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge them. She scooted closer to Wen Wen, leaning in to whisper by her ear, “Feels like we’re making an official announcement or something.”
Tonight, Jiang Chi had already pushed Wen Wen’s composure to the brink multiple times. But high risk came with high reward, each provocation was another chance to glimpse more of Jiang Chi’s true self.
“Announcing what?” Wen Wen feigned ignorance.
Jiang Chi had been thinking of those industry couples making their relationships public, but the question made her inexplicably hesitant. Instead of voicing her original thought, she replied matter-of-factly, “Oh, what am I saying? It’s not just like an announcement, we are announcing that we’re tomorrow’s CP! That way, Jiejie can’t back out.”
With that, she clung to Wen Wen’s shoulder again.
Wen Wen felt a pang of disappointment but didn’t press further, simply reiterating, “I won’t back out.”
Ji Mei shot a sidelong glance in Jiang Chi’s direction, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Some people act like they’ve got no bones, thinking they’re loaches or something.”
Hearing this, Jiang Chi lazily retorted, “Teacher Ji should read more books. Don’t tell me you don’t even know that loaches are elongated, cylindrical fish of the order Cypriniformes, family Cobitidae, genus Misgurnus, possessing a skeletal structure with bones and a head like most fish?”
Ji Mei glared at her furiously.
Jiang Chi, who had just straightened up, immediately leaned back onto Wen Wen’s shoulder upon meeting her gaze, sticking out her tongue triumphantly.
Ji Mei narrowed her eyes slightly, her gaze icy enough to freeze the air.
Director Xu interjected, “Jiang Chi and Wen Wen are successfully paired. What about the remaining guests?”
The remaining four remained silent.
Director Xu understood: “In that case, if the remaining guests haven’t successfully paired up by breakfast tomorrow, teams will also be decided by drawing lots.”
“Now everyone is free to move about.”
Jiang Chi linked arms with Wen Wen: “Sister, let’s go back to our room.”
Wen Wen nodded slightly.
Watching Jiang Chi escort Wen Wen upstairs, Su Jing’s gaze lingered slightly. As he lowered his eyes, his line of sight happened to meet Ji Mei’s.
Almost instantly upon locking eyes, both understood the other’s thoughts.
Su Jing stood up and left first. Ji Mei remained seated on the sofa a while longer before rising to follow.
In a secluded corner free from people and cameras, Su Jing got straight to the point: “Your target is Wen Wen, isn’t it?”
Instead of answering immediately, Ji Mei asked with interest: “I’m curious, why are you so fixated on Jiang Chi? Isn’t Wen Wen ten thousand times better?”
Su Jing knew why she suddenly brought this up, she was probing for information about Jiang Chi’s background.
Wen Wen might be better, but only if he could actually get close to her.
He wasn’t the type to repeatedly humiliate himself by chasing after someone who clearly wasn’t interested.
Avoiding a direct answer, he said: “Someone as smart as you should be able to tell your motives regarding Wen Wen aren’t any different from mine regarding Jiang Chi.”
His tone was matter-of-fact, not questioning but stating with certainty.
So the man did have brains in that head of his, and not just for adding height. Ji Mei narrowed her eyes. Normally presenting a sweet and cute demeanor, her expression now showed only ruthlessness and resentment. Abandoning further attempts to probe about Jiang Chi, she cut straight to the chase: “No different at all. So, what do you plan to do?”
