Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 10
Jiang Chi drove straight to the Wen Corporation building.
Wen Wen was no longer at the café.
Earlier, when she returned to her seat and saw the untouched coffee and desserts all her favorites, she felt an inexplicable ache in her heart.
Jiang Chi didn’t have time to dwell on it. She just wanted to apologize first, to explain that the time was supposed to be just for the two of them, but she had broken that promise.
Even though it wasn’t something she could control, the fault still lay with her.
But this time, she couldn’t even get past the company gates. The security guards stopped her right at the entrance.
“Let me in! I need to see your CEO Wen!”
“Sorry, Miss Jiang. We don’t want to hurt you, but please don’t make this difficult for us. CEO Wen specifically ordered not to let you in.”
Jiang Chi sighed, pretending to leave. When the guards relaxed, she quickly darted toward the entrance, only to be stopped again.
“Brothers, can’t you cut me some slack? I’m not here to cause trouble. I just… I just want to see CEO Wen.” As she spoke, Jiang Chi realized her voice was trembling for some reason.
“Sorry, Miss Jiang. Please understand our position. We don’t want to lose our jobs.”
Jiang Chi lowered her head, her long bangs hiding her expression. The guards only heard her calm voice say, “Fine. I’ll go then.”
On her way to the parking lot, Jiang Chi took out her phone and called Lu Jie. “Hey, Lu Jie, are you at the company right now?”
“I am. What’s up?”
Jiang Chi: “I’m coming over.”
When she arrived, the first thing Jiang Chi said to Lu Jie was, “I don’t want to film Heartbeat Summer anymore. Lu Jie, what excuse can I use to back out?”
“Why would you back out? Weren’t you planning to go public with Su Jing on this show?” Lu Jie was shocked. As the only person in the company who knew about Jiang Chi and Su Jing’s relationship, she also knew how deeply Jiang Chi loved him. Back then, Su Jing had refused to participate in such programs, and it was only after Jiang Chi pestered him relentlessly that he finally agreed.
“That was then. This is now.” Jiang Chi’s answer was vague.
Lu Jie sat beside her, eyes gleaming with curiosity. “What, are you breaking up with him?”
She wished she could break up. But the plot wouldn’t allow it. Right now, the mere sight of Su Jing made her as happy as a mouse finding rice. Even if she somehow managed to propose a breakup, the key to freeing herself from the plot’s control still lay with Wen Wen, who currently despised her and refused to see her. Sooner or later, she’d be forced back to Su Jing, groveling for forgiveness.
“It’s not about breaking up. I just don’t want to do the show.”
Lu Jie looked disappointed at the lack of juicy gossip. “Fine. But you can’t just quit.”
Jiang Chi: “Why not?”
Lu Jie: “Because everything for this project is already set. Filming starts in five days. You can’t just back out now.”
“Then replace me,” Jiang Chi said, remembering Su Jing’s compensation offer. “Let Bai Yuetong take my spot.”
Bai Yuetong was another artist under their company, and she had only been signed as compensation in the first place.
“No way. This show was tailor-made for you, understand? Tailor-made. Even your father knows about this project. If you drop out, who else would dare to touch it?”
“Then just cancel the whole show.”
Sister Lu clicked her tongue and shook her head, sighing, “You really are your father’s little spendthrift,” before detailing all the manpower, resources, and funds poured into the project from start to finish. She concluded, “With the contracted guests’ thirtyfold compensation, that alone would cost two hundred million.”
“My dear young miss, although this amounts to just a few hundred million in total mere pocket change for your family this money was still earned through your dear father’s hard work, wasn’t it? And you’re just… throwing it away so casually?”
“Besides, no one said you have to do anything specific just because you’re on the show. If you don’t want to deal with Su Jing, you can just ignore him, right? Just treat it like playing around during filming.”
Jiang Chi slumped onto the table in despair. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to treat it as a casual gig, the problem was, would the plot let her off the hook?
If she ran into Su Jing and Bai Yuetong on the show, she didn’t even dare imagine what earth-shattering, bizarre behavior she might exhibit.
If that really happened, there would be no saving her fate!
She would die a miserable death in this world…
“Tell me, is there any way to get Wen Wen to join this show?”
If Wen Wen participated, at least she’d have some security and wouldn’t be completely passive. Plus, she’d have more chances to get closer to Wen Wen.
It would be killing two birds with one stone.
But Wen Wen would never agree, right? Today, she wasn’t even allowed through the company doors.
“Who? Who did you say?” Sister Lu seemed to have heard the joke of the century. “You want Wen Wen to join this show? Impossible! She’s not that idle. She’s said herself she only films two movies a year at most, and only if the script catches her eye.”
“Besides, her family’s fortune is even bigger than yours, isn’t it? And it’ll all be hers someday. Why would she join a show that means absolutely nothing to her?”
“I think you’re absolutely right,” Jiang Chi stood up. “But I’m going to try. If I don’t have any leads in three days, we’ll cancel the show.”
Her dear father would surely be willing to spend a few hundred million to protect his precious daughter’s life. When she was kidnapped before, the ransom was eight hundred million, and Jiang Qingyuan agreed without hesitation.
Jiang Chi returned to the Wen Corporation building, but this time, her old tricks wouldn’t work, Wen Wen’s car wasn’t in the open parking lot, and the underground parking had red-flagged her entirely.
Wen Wen was clearly determined to cut off any possible interaction this time.
Desperate times called for desperate measures.
That day, when Wen Wen returned home from work and stepped out of the elevator, she found Jiang Chi squatting at her doorstep. Hearing the noise, Jiang Chi looked up, her eyes bright but her expression pitifully pleading, like a wronged puppy waiting for its owner. She whimpered, “Sis…”
Wen Wen’s heart skipped a beat, gripped by an invisible hand that twisted painfully, yet her expression remained unchanged, as if she neither saw nor heard anything, and she moved straight to open her door.
Jiang Chi watched her approach but didn’t stand, only turning her eyes and body to follow Wen Wen’s movements.
As Wen Wen opened the door and was about to step inside, she felt a tug on her pant leg.
After struggling to hold back, Wen Wen couldn’t help but lower her gaze. Jiang Chi was looking up at her with those bright black eyes shimmering with pitiful light, like a puppy begging its owner not to abandon it.
“Sis, I was wrong. Don’t be mad at me, okay?”
Wen Wen averted her eyes, staring at the dark apartment before shaking her head slightly. “You weren’t wrong. I was.”
She shouldn’t have thought she could compare to Su Jing.
If Jiang Chi couldn’t let go, then she would be the one to cut ties.
After all, her feelings were never meant to see the light.
“So don’t come looking for me again.”
With those words, Wen Wen turned to leave. Jiang Chi panicked, springing up to grab her arm only to stumble forward when her numb legs gave out from crouching too long.
Wen Wen couldn’t brace against the sudden weight, and the two of them tumbled spectacularly onto the entryway rug.
Jiang Chi instinctively cradled Wen Wen’s head protectively before pushing herself up in concern. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Get off.” Wen Wen frowned.
Jiang Chi’s eyes flickered mischievously before she collapsed onto Wen Wen again, whining, “Wait a sec, my legs are still numb. I can’t get up.”
“Then roll to the side,” Wen Wen said, shoving at her.
“No.” Jiang Chi clung tighter, shamelessly nuzzling. “You’re so soft, sis. Bet you’d be comfy to sleep with.”
Wen Wen gritted her teeth. “This is sexual harassment!”
“Sorry, sis, I was just stating my immediate thoughts. But I really can’t move.” Her voice dripped with exaggerated pitifulness.
After a few futile struggles, Wen Wen finally went limp beneath her in resignation.
“Sis, I didn’t mean to leave you that day.” Jiang Chi lifted her head, those liquid-dark eyes brimming with remorse. “Forgive me, okay?”
“I seriously want to stick to you 24/7!”
Wen Wen stared back.
They lay there in silence, gazes locked, each lost in their own thoughts.
After what felt like an eternity, Wen Wen asked a question that struck Jiang Chi as odd: “Jiang Chi, who am I?”
“Wen Wen!” Jiang Chi blurted without hesitation.
“And then? What do you want?”
“I want you to go on a dating show with me.”
Wen Wen scoffed. “So I can watch you and Su Jing flaunt your love?”
“No!” Jiang Chi denied instantly. “If you don’t mind me, I want to pair up with you.”
“With me?” Wen Wen sounded genuinely surprised.
“Yeah! I keep saying I only want to be with you, but you never believe me.”
“What if I do mind you?”
Jiang Chi’s face fell instantly, the picture of dejection. “Then… I’ll work hard to change your mind.”
She scrambled up, pulling Wen Wen with her before wrapping her arms around her waist from the side, resting her chin on Wen Wen’s shoulder without an ounce of shame. “Sis~ Wen-Wen~ Save this poor flower of the motherland and come on the show with me, please?”
Wen Wen frowned. “Stop spouting nonsense in front of me.”
When sweet-talking failed, Jiang Chi switched to outright coercion: “I don’t care. If you refuse, you’ll just have to resign yourself to being stuck with me like conjoined twins. I’m not letting go.”
Wen Wen turned to study her, expression inscrutable.
Jiang Chi blinked back innocently.
Wen Wen sighed. “I’ll think about it.”
“Alright,” Jiang Chi agreed readily. “How long do you need to think about it? The show starts filming in three days.”
Wen Wen asked, “Does it have to be me?”
Jiang Chi’s gaze was unwavering. “It has to be you!”
“In that case,” Wen Wen paused, seemingly hesitant before continuing, “Dating shows always involve intimate interactions. If you want to pair up with me as a couple, then kiss my cheek right… now.”
The last word was drowned out by a loud “mwah.”
Her pinky finger twitched slightly at her side as Wen Wen suppressed the urge to pull the other woman into a passionate kiss. Turning her head slightly, she cleared her throat. “I’ll give you my answer tomorrow.”
“Fine, but you’re such a tease, sis! Let’s draft a contract right now, if you back out, you have to give me all the Wen family assets! We’ll sign and fingerprint it!”
Wen Wen raised an eyebrow but complied without protest.
The two worked together in the study to draft and print the contract. Wen Wen signed and fingerprinted it first, then slid the document and pen toward Jiang Chi.
Jiang Chi reviewed the terms again, nodded in satisfaction, signed her name, and pressed her thumbprint onto the paper.
Wen Wen watched her through narrowed eyes, her gaze so intense it seemed to pull the other woman in.
Since Jiang Chi was so eager to provoke her, she’d play along.
Even if this was just some prank, she wanted to know, what exactly was Jiang Chi playing at, and how long this game would last.
