Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 11
“Miss Jiang, will, will Actress Wen really come?”
The chief director of “Summer Heartbeat,” Director Xu, stood nervously behind Jiang Chi, gazing expectantly in the same direction.
Today marked the first day of filming for “Summer Heartbeat.” Jiang Chi had arrived at the Love Cabin earliest among all the guests. Since arriving, she had done nothing but alternate between sitting and standing while staring at the cabin’s entrance.
Wen Wen had promised her.
But these past two days, Wen Wen had forbidden her from visiting.
Wen Wen’s exact words were: “You’ll disturb my work. If you want me on the show, don’t bother me.”
Jiang Chi obediently stayed away, though she had called and texted all to no response, like stones sinking into the sea.
It was impossible not to worry. She feared Wen Wen might change her mind at any moment, leaving her powerless.
When Jiang Chi remained silent, Director Xu rambled on: “I had someone leak rumors that Actress Wen would join our show, but netizens didn’t believe it.”
“Didn’t believe it” was an understatement. The official account of “Summer Heartbeat” had been completely overrun with comments, all boiling down to: “You’re too arrogant for a lousy dating show, daring to tease Wen Wen? You’re playing with fire, pfft! As if you’re worthy!”
Because of this, “Summer Heartbeat” had trended multiple times in a single day.
As the saying goes, any publicity is good publicity. Though the show had been bombarded with criticism, some netizens practically itching to track down and tear apart the production team, Director Xu hadn’t issued any response, letting the rumors run wild.
After all, Jiang Chi had assured him Wen Wen would participate. Even if she didn’t show up, the eventual broadcast would still generate a wave of “mockery” and attention.
Some buzz was better than none, whether it was positive or negative.
Jiang Chi glanced at Director Xu. “If netizens don’t believe it, they’ll just have to wait and be proven wrong.”
Despite her words, she couldn’t help feeling uneasy.
Only Wen Wen could ease her anxiety.
Director Xu chuckled. “Alright, I’ll leave you to wait here while I attend to other matters.”
Jiang Chi nodded, then suddenly remembered something and called him back. She emphasized, “Remember what I told you before, don’t follow your original script. Don’t worry about my or Su Jing’s status. Focus entirely on the show’s needs and stick to your plan. Don’t forget.”
Director Xu saluted dramatically. “Understood, Miss Jiang!”
Jiang Chi feigned annoyance. “And don’t call me ‘Miss Jiang.’ Address me as you normally would.”
Just then, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a car stopping at the corner.
The Love Cabin was located in a villa district within the Second Ring Road of the capital. The villas here were spaced far apart, and the production team had rented the innermost one, surrounded by bamboo groves that ensured excellent privacy.
The crew hadn’t arranged special transportation for the guests, they were all arriving in their own cars. However, vehicles weren’t allowed to drive up to the cabin; guests had to park at the intersection and walk the rest of the way with their luggage.
Upon recognizing the car, Jiang Chi immediately lost interest, it wasn’t Wen Wen’s.
She pulled out her phone and dialed Wen Wen’s number.
The same endless busy tone as always!
Could Wen Wen have forgotten that filming started today?
The new guest knocked on the door, which promptly swung open to reveal a pink-haired girl with round, bright eyes and a doll-like face the epitome of a sweet girl-next-door type.
She blinked, her lively eyes scanning the room before landing on Jiang Chi seated in the center of the living room. A radiant smile lit up her face as she approached politely. “Hello, Sister Jiang. I’m Ji Mei.”
Jiang Chi responded with little enthusiasm but remained courteous. “Hello.”
Following Ji Mei was a fair-skinned, handsome young man who looked every bit the boy-next-door. He struggled in with two large suitcases one pink, one black.
Jiang Chi had reviewed the guest list beforehand and knew these two were from the same company. Their newly released drama was currently trending, and their agency had sent them here to promote it while also fueling their on-screen chemistry for publicity.
In other words, they were practically a packaged deal for this show.
The young man set the luggage aside and greeted Jiang Chi as well. “Hello, Sister Jiang. I’m Jin Jinyi.”
“Hello,” Jiang Chi replied just as disinterestedly, barely glancing at him before turning her gaze back to the road outside the floor-to-ceiling window like a stranded fish staring longingly at an unreachable river.
The lack of warmth in return darkened Ji Mei’s expression instantly. She exchanged a glance with Jin Jinyi, her eyes brimming with disdain.
Both of them had higher popularity than Jiang Chi. In an industry where clout was king, they could have easily ignored her. They didn’t know Jiang Chi’s background in fact, few in the entertainment circle truly did, aside from those within the Jiang Corporation. Naturally, they saw no reason to suck up to her.
Ji Mei had only intended to play nice, but since her goodwill wasn’t reciprocated, she no longer cared about maintaining appearances. Even if she snapped now, no one would blame her.
She took a seat directly across from Jiang Chi, deliberately blocking her view of the window.
Jiang Chi glanced at her but didn’t engage, simply shifting slightly to the side.
Her mind and heart were entirely preoccupied with Wen Wen, she just wanted to see her.
Ji Mei was taken aback by her reaction. She knew of Jiang Chi not particularly famous, but with a notorious attitude. The tabloids loved milking Jiang Chi’s scandals for clicks.
Before arriving, Ji Mei’s manager had repeatedly warned her to rein in her temper and avoid provoking Jiang Chi. If Jiang Chi had managed to stay in the industry despite all the drama she stirred, she clearly had powerful backing.
But Ji Mei wasn’t fazed.
If Jiang Chi had connections, so did she.
They were both in the same industry, yet Jiang Chi was less popular. How dare she look down on her!
Ji Mei shifted again, obstructing Jiang Chi’s line of sight once more.
Jiang Chi crossed her arms, smirking at the flawless fake smile plastered on the other woman’s face. “Is this how Teacher Ji usually tries to get attention, through provocation?”
Ji Mei smiled innocently. “Sister!”
Before she could finish, Jiang Chi cut her off, mirroring that same impeccable fake smile. “Don’t call me ‘sister.’ I’m an only child, no siblings.”
The moment the words left her mouth, her body involuntarily stood up.
This all-too-familiar state of being controlled.
Just as a car stopped at the intersection, Jiang Chi immediately recognized it as Su Jing’s vehicle.
Unable to control herself, she ran out with uncontainable joy, moving as fast as an Olympic marathon runner. What normally took four or five minutes to walk, she covered in just one minute, arriving breathlessly before Su Jing.
“Brother Su Jing! You’re here!” Her voice dripped with honeyed sweetness as she immediately linked arms with him, declaring with absolute conviction, “Since we’re on this show together, I’ll make sure everyone knows how much I like you! I will definitely win your heart!”
Inside, Jiang Chi was screaming in despair: Oh righteous heavens above, bear witness that these words aren’t my true feelings!
Her heart belonged only to Wen Wen now.
That beautiful woman who could save her life!
Yet here she was, forced to gaze adoringly at Su Jing with starry eyes.
This intersection wasn’t originally part of the filming location, but Jiang Chi’s unexpected and enthusiastic actions were too good to pass up. Director Xu immediately dispatched a cameraman to capture the moment.
The cameraman stood nearby, dutifully filming the pair with his camera.
Su Jing smiled warmly, reaching out to take Jiang Chi’s hand when suddenly, an ear-piercing car horn shattered the moment.
Both startled individuals turned toward the source of the noise.
It was Wen Wen!
Jiang Chi’s heart leaped with joy, she wanted nothing more than to run over and smother Wen Wen with kisses. But her face could only display an expression of irritated displeasure at the interruption.
Behind the monitors, Director Xu jumped up at the newcomer’s arrival, shouting into his walkie-talkie: “Get a close-up on Wen Wen’s face! I want extreme close-ups!”
He could already see the explosive ratings for next week’s episode.
So much for not making her watch them flirt, she’d arrived just in time to see this exact scene.
Wen Wen sat in her car, staring intently at Jiang Chi with slightly furrowed brows. But the object of her gaze soon looked away, turning back to gaze adoringly at the man before her.
Jiang Chi tilted her head to see Su Jing giving her a puzzled look, as if asking: Why is Wen Wen here?
What else would she be here for? To cure you, of course!
Outwardly, she just smiled sweetly and shook her head: “I don’t know either.”
Jiang Chi had been observing, the distance between her and Wen Wen was about three meters. Ever since learning about the distance limitation for breaking free from the plot’s control, she’d practiced estimating distances.
Three meters wasn’t enough, she remained trapped!
Unable to move freely, she desperately watched Wen Wen’s movements from the corner of her eye. Fortunately, the path to the love cottage required Wen Wen to pass right by her.
Two and a half meters.
Two meters!
Freedom!
The moment she broke free from the plot’s control, Jiang Chi threw out a quick “I’ll go say hello” before dashing to Wen Wen’s side, eagerly reaching for the handle of her suitcase.
Wen Wen didn’t relinquish it, simply stating coolly: “I think you’ve got the wrong person.”
Jiang Chi immediately protested: “I don’t! I’ve been waiting for you like a loyal wife gazing at the horizon! The staff at the cottage can vouch for me!”
Her tone was utterly pitiful.
And she truly felt pitiful forced to say all those “disgusting” things to Su Jing!
Wen Wen looked up to see the cameraman across from her nodding frantically.
She released her grip.
Jiang Chi happily took her suitcase, and the two walked side by side toward the Heartbeat Cottage, not even sparing Su Jing a glance as they passed him.
Su Jing had intended to greet Wen Wen, but the pair completely ignored him. His thumb involuntarily dug deep into his palm.
Nothing infuriated him more than being disregarded.
Jiang Chi leaned slightly toward Wen Wen’s ear and whispered in a wounded tone, “I thought you were already planning to hand over the Wen family fortune to me.”
A faint smile curled at Wen Wen’s lips. “Under a certain condition, I might just give it to you.”
Jiang Chi’s dark, bright eyes widened. “What condition?”
Wen Wen only smiled without answering.
Su Jing remained rooted in place, watching their intimate retreating figures with a mix of confusion, shock, and anger. An inexplicable unease churned within him.
As they neared the cottage entrance, Jiang Chi quickened her steps, opened the door, and gestured with a playful “After you, my princess.”
Wen Wen walked past her, murmuring under her breath, “If you’re this eager, you’ll probably get criticized.”
Jiang Chi knew she was referring to the vast disparity in their status within the industry. Once this footage aired, netizens and Wen Wen’s fans would undoubtedly accuse her of clout-chasing, shamelessness, or even harsher insults.
But.
Jiang Chi gave a slight shrug. “I don’t care.”
She truly didn’t. If she had cared about such things, she would’ve crumbled long ago when netizens branded her a “brainless rich second-gen” or “Su Jing’s epic-level simp.”
To her, the words of those unrelated to her held no power to affect her in the slightest.
Wen Wen frowned slightly. “But those who care about you will feel heartache.”
“Oh?” Jiang Chi’s eyes sparkled as she stared directly into Wen Wen’s gaze, leaning closer with hopeful anticipation.
“Then, sister, will you feel heartache for me?”
