Turns out I Was the CEO's White Moonlight [Rebirth] - Chapter 8
Shen Yelin did not directly respond to the system’s words.
He pondered Fu Jianyi’s intentions for a moment, slightly raised his eyes, and nodded to Fu Jianyi, saying, “Alright.”
Fu Jianyi immediately broke into a smile.
The system was shocked: “Host, aren’t you just jumping into his trap? I don’t believe you can’t see what he’s planning. Or have you really developed feelings for him??”
Shen Yelin ignored it and continued to address Fu Jianyi, “However, my younger sister is quite attached to me, so my personal time isn’t actually that abundant. If you extend an invitation and she’s already claimed that time first, my apologies.”
The system immediately regarded Shen Yelin with newfound respect: “I was wrong, you’re still the clever one, Host! You actually thought of using your younger sister as a shield brilliant! When it comes to playing games, you’re the master!”
Upon hearing this, although Fu Jianyi had mentally prepared himself, a faint pang of jealousy still stirred in his heart when the words actually reached his ears.
Shen Xuan held a position in Shen Yelin’s life far beyond what an ordinary friend like him could ever hope to reach. Shen Yelin’s personality was aloof, yet he had his own unique set of principles. If someone crossed his boundaries or pushed him into something he didn’t want to do, his reaction would be exceptionally firm, even to the point of seeming cold and unfeeling. Only Shen Xuan could dance recklessly on the edge of his limits without worrying about being pushed out of the circle he had drawn.
However, Fu Jianyi had also carefully observed Shen Xuan in his dreams. Though she was a bit naive, she was a good girl who knew when to stop. No wonder Shen Yelin, as her older brother, doted on her and was willing to tolerate her minor flaws.
As an outsider, it was clear. But for someone who saw themselves as a lover, such behavior was glaringly unpleasant.
Fu Jianyi suppressed the jealousy bubbling up inside him and nodded with a smile at Shen Yelin, “Naturally.”
He immediately began formulating a plan to get closer to Shen Xuan in his mind, suddenly realizing that this might be an excellent way to achieve his goals indirectly.
After exchanging a few more polite words, the two stood up to leave. Fu Jianyi escorted Shen Yelin to the entrance of the club, watched him take the car keys from the valet, get into the car, and finally smiled as he drove away.
The sleek sports car disappeared into the night. Fu Jianyi watched the taillights gradually fade, the smile on his face slowly fading.
This time, I won’t let you slip away from me again.
He thought.
Absolutely not.
Shen Yelin sat absentmindedly in the car, recalling the man he had encountered in the restroom earlier. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Ji Wencheng must have hidden something very important from him.
To be honest, even if he followed the plotline from his memories, those were memories from five years ago. Moreover, everything now was unfolding differently from what he remembered, and he had no recollection of the past at all. He only knew from Shen Xuan that Ji Wencheng had taken him in. After that, everything was a blank slate.
And the man he had just met in the restroom had asked him about his relationship with Ji Wencheng.
Clearly, there was a connection between the two. Ji Wencheng must have taken him from the hotel and later handed him over to that man. That’s why, after sobering up this morning, he encountered that horrifying scene in the hotel room.
Shen Yelin decided to call Ji Wencheng to ask what exactly had happened earlier.
After all, this guy had been playing dead all day, not even sending a message to check in or apologize. Shen Yelin had originally planned to wait for him to turn himself in, but instead of doing so, he had simply vanished without a trace.
The phone rang several times, eventually disconnecting automatically, with no one answering.
Shen Yelin couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
Seeing his expression, the system immediately felt a pang of dread, thinking: This Ji Wencheng is probably done for!
Although it didn’t feel it had spent much time with Shen Yelin, it had still managed to grasp a bit of his principles. In summary: he wouldn’t do what he didn’t like, would dismiss what he found displeasing, would silence what he didn’t want to hear, and would make anyone who annoyed him disappear as far as possible. In short, he had the classic temperament of a wealthy young master. Unfortunately, he was good-looking, so everything he did was right.
Now, this Ji Wencheng was repeatedly testing his host’s bottom line. If it weren’t for the title of childhood friend, Shen Yelin would probably have coldly tossed him into the garbage disposal center by now.
Shen Yelin made two calls to Ji Wencheng, with just enough time in between for him to drive home, enter the house with his phone in hand. However, the sound from the phone was like dialing a call that would never be answered it just kept ringing with no follow-up.
He simply hung up.
Another day passed, and Shen Yelin called him from the office.
Of course, this call also went unanswered.
The system huddled in a corner, trembling, never having wished so desperately for Xie Yun, Fu Jianyi, or anyone else who had confessed to Shen Yelin at the funeral to call its host and help curb his rising anger, lest it, the poor little bystander, suffer the consequences.
After all, even a fool could tell that the more someone played dead, the bigger the issue was. Because they couldn’t fix it, they could only deceive themselves by pretending nothing had happened.
Shen Yelin calmly hung up the landline.
He wasn’t a fool either and understood Ji Wencheng, who was currently hiding from him and pretending to be an ostrich, better than the system did. Shen Yelin hardly needed to think to guess what had happened that night. But his own speculation couldn’t compare to hearing it from the person involved, and he was also quite curious about the role that stranger had played.
But since Ji Wencheng didn’t want to talk about it, so be it.
Compared to the carefree young masters who spent their days indulging in pleasure, his daily life was much busier. Even just sitting in the office reviewing documents took a considerable amount of time.
Shen Yelin put the matter aside. But before long, someone else came looking for him.
This time, the person seeking his help was none other than Ji Wencheng’s mother. Given their past relationship, he should respectfully address her as Auntie. After all, she had taken good care of him when he was young, and it would be difficult for him to turn his back on her now because of Ji Wencheng’s actions.
Mrs. Ji remained the composed and dignified noblewoman Shen Yelin remembered. She first greeted him politely, then, like any mother concerned about her child, cautiously inquired whether Ji Wencheng had been in contact with him recently and if he knew where the young man had gone.
This left Shen Yelin at a loss for words. After a moment of thought, he told Mrs. Ji the truth: “I’ve been trying to reach him too, but he hasn’t answered my calls.”
“He’s not even answering your calls?” Mrs. Ji sounded as if she were about to faint. Still, she mustered her strength and said to Shen Yelin, “Yelin, you know how much I’ve always liked you. I’ve always hoped Wencheng could learn more from you. But this child sigh. It was bad enough when he argued with his father recently, but now he’s run away from home. I thought he might have gone to your birthday party and that you could talk some sense into him, but now he’s gone completely missing. I can’t exactly tie him up and drag him home, can I…”
“I think,” the system decided it was time to step in and analyze the situation, “what she means is that she can’t control her own son. Ji Wencheng listens to you more, so she wants you to step in, go to wherever he’s ‘politely’ run off to, and help her tie him up and bring him home!”
“Good analysis,” Shen Yelin praised it half-heartedly. “Your professional skills are improving.”
The system was practically moved to tears by his words.
Shen Yelin had no time to deal with its shattered ego. He spoke into the phone to Mrs. Ji: “Do you know where he is now?”
“I have a few ideas, but I’m not entirely sure,” Mrs. Ji replied. “When he argues with the family, he usually doesn’t go anywhere else just the same few places. Oh, I’m sorry to trouble you. It’s all my fault for not being able to manage Wencheng properly, and now I’m dragging you into our family matters.”
“It’s no trouble at all, Auntie. It’s the least I can do.”
“If only Wencheng were half as mature as you,” Mrs. Ji said, wiping away tears. “He really doesn’t understand how to behave.”
Shen Yelin comforted her a few more times before hanging up. He then called Qiao An, gave him a list of clubs, and instructed him to call their managers to ask if they had seen Ji Wencheng recently. If so, he was to record the dates and compile a report.
Qiao An responded efficiently.
In just over ten minutes, the report came back concise and reliable: Ji Wencheng was currently at one of the clubs on the list and had just arrived. If Shen Yelin drove over now, he could still catch him. Qiao An had already notified the driver, who was ready to leave immediately.
Shen Yelin acknowledged this calmly, then said to the system, “See? That’s what I call professional competence. You should learn from him.”
The system was so demoralized it retreated into silence.
Shen Yelin took the car Qiao An had arranged for him and drove straight to the club’s entrance, where he got out and walked in.
This club was different from the one where he had met Fu Jianyi a few days earlier. It was less formal, and naturally, there were more shady dealings happening behind the scenes. Shen Yelin usually avoided such places, so no one recognized him. If he hadn’t mentioned Yao Yu’s name in advance, even he wouldn’t have been able to get in so easily.
But Ji Wencheng was also quite ridiculous, why choose to hole up in a club of all places? If it weren’t for the fact that this guy had grown up with him since childhood, Shen Yelin would never have left home during his rest time just to drag someone like this back.
Following the information Qiao An had given him, Shen Yelin walked all the way toward the innermost hall of the club. Qiao An had said that Ji Wencheng had booked the entire dance floor and the seats near it, inviting a crowd to party and revel here.
Expressionless, Shen Yelin reached the deepest part and indeed saw the dance floor bustling with figures. Below, every table was fully occupied. He quickly scanned all the tables but didn’t spot Ji Wencheng’s face. However, at one of the tables, he recognized a few familiar faces. If he remembered correctly, they were the usual troublemakers that the runaway young master Ji loved to hang out with.
It seemed this was where Ji Wencheng should be.
Shen Yelin walked over and stood firmly in front of the lively table, asking calmly, “Where’s Ji Wencheng? Get him out here.”
