Turns out I Was the CEO's White Moonlight [Rebirth] - Chapter 9
As soon as these words were spoken, the once lively banquet table fell into complete silence.
Everyone stared in stunned disbelief at Shen Yelin, who had suddenly appeared before them, completely out of place with the entire club’s atmosphere. Some widened their eyes in shock, while others were left utterly speechless.
Shen Yelin rarely frequented such places, and over the years, he had almost no connection with Ji Wencheng’s social circle, so few people recognized him. Among those gathered here today, not a single person knew him. All they could see was a man dressed impeccably in a suit, with his tie perfectly knotted, who clearly did not belong to this night of revelry. His strikingly cold and refined face only seemed glaringly out of place in such a setting, making people want to tarnish him from the inside out, to destroy the aura of restraint that set him apart from his surroundings.
This man was too beautiful so beautiful that he seemed out of place in such a pleasure-seeking environment.
Even those who indulged in lowly transactions had to admit that there were differences between people. Some, though attractive, did not evoke an overwhelming sense of infatuation when you saw them. Everything was clearly priced, each taking what they needed, and one could even praise it as a fair and beautiful transaction.
But there were others who, at first glance, seemed utterly untouchable. Even if you managed to win them over, they should be cherished and brought home, treated like the stars and the moon, never to be subjected to the slightest grievance, let alone brought to such a filthy place to be paraded for others to gawk at.
Such a person was like moonlight seeping through the cracks of a window at night dreamlike and ethereal, perfectly embodying every individual’s definition of beauty. Yet, like moonlight, they were elusive and intangible. When you saw them, you knew they were not someone you could ever truly possess.
As for having such a stunning beauty at home and still going out to seek pleasure in a place like this??
Who do you think you’re disrespecting?!
Break up already, break up! There are plenty of people waiting in line behind you, ready to take your place!
Unfortunately, the person he had come looking for by name was the patron who funded everyone’s entertainment, so they could only swallow their anger and remain silent, as quiet as mice.
Seeing that no one responded, Shen Yelin repeated his question, “Where is Ji Wencheng? I know he’s here.”
The system huddled in a corner, biting its handkerchief, not daring to interrupt at this moment, silently gathering the rising peach blossom values around it. It had a feeling that if it spoke up now, the next target for venting frustration would shift from someone present to itself.
The once noisy dance hall gradually quieted down, with everyone’s gaze fixed on Shen Yelin, the silence so profound that the drop of a needle could be heard clearly.
At that moment, a handsome young man suddenly stepped forward, storming angrily toward Shen Yelin.
“Who are you? I don’t recognize you,” he said in an extremely hostile tone. “You keep calling for Brother Wencheng to come out and see you, who do you think you are? If you’ve been dumped, have some self-awareness, will you? Don’t you know he’s famous for being cold to his exes? Are you hoping to cry in public to win him back, to make him return to you?”
The words were spoken extremely loudly, as if deliberately meant to be heard by everyone in the dance hall, fulfilling his intention to publicly humiliate the person before him. The crowd had initially been wondering who had the audacity to speak so maliciously. But when they turned their gaze toward the speaker, they immediately understood.
The young man who had stepped forward was named Si Rui, the latest fling Ji Wencheng had just taken up after discarding his previous partner. Rumor had it he was a debuted celebrity with a small following online. Those who frequented the local circles in City B knew that Young Master Ji changed companions faster than he changed clothes, with no one ever being an exception. Having just successfully pried open the previous corner, Si Rui naturally felt a sense of urgency. While his position was still secure, he seized the opportunity to secure more benefits for himself, so that when the inevitable breakup came, he wouldn’t appear too pitiful.
Naturally, the words he had just blurted out were also meant to warn this sudden intruder, to make him aware of his own true standing and threaten him into leaving the area immediately.
As someone who had reaped the benefits of his looks and sailed smoothly through life, Si Rui was hypersensitive in this regard. He had a premonition that if Ji Wencheng returned and saw the person before him, his own days of being cast aside were not far off. After all, the person before him was absurdly good-looking no normal person could possibly resist the allure of that face.
Shen Yelin didn’t even bother to raise an eyebrow, ignoring the young man’s provocation as he found an isolated sofa beside a table and sat down.
He knew Ji Wencheng well this was undoubtedly his spot.
Sure enough, seeing him sit on that sofa, the young man’s eyes turned red with fury. He stormed over to Shen Yelin and shouted, “Are you deaf or just shameless? Why are you still clinging here? Do you even know whose seat this is? How dare you sit here? I’m warning you, get up now, or I’ll call someone in to teach you a lesson!”
Shen Yelin simply closed his eyes.
If it weren’t for this mess with Ji Wencheng, he would have already finished his bath and be changing into his pajamas for bed.
After a long day, having to come to the club and listen to Ji Wencheng’s latest fling prattle on, Shen Yelin’s patience was nearing its limit. He felt that if this matter couldn’t be resolved within twenty minutes tonight, then Ji Wencheng was indeed a friend he could do without.
The system cautiously chimed in, “Host, host, would you like me to sing you a lullaby?”
Shen Yelin opened his eyes instantly and replied coldly, “Who do you think you’re treating like a child?”
“…Wah.” The system was heartbroken. “I was just trying to show I care.”
“Unnecessary.”
The system felt dejected, convinced it had lost its value.
Meanwhile, Si Rui stood nearby, being frantically urged by Ji Wencheng’s friends to calm down.
No matter how frequently Ji Wencheng changed the people around him, they were still his own possessions outsiders had no right to interfere. Now that he himself was absent, those left behind naturally had to consider his reputation. Even if they looked down on Si Rui, they had to grit their teeth and help him. But they weren’t fools either. Though they didn’t recognize this sudden intruder, the air of refined nobility about him wasn’t something an ordinary person could imitate. His family background likely wasn’t simple either, and he probably wasn’t someone to be casually bullied.
Moreover, after spending so much time with Ji Wencheng, they had never seen this person by his side. At the very least, this meant either Ji Wencheng had treasured him like a precious gem, keeping him hidden away at home without letting anyone know, or this person had nothing to do with Ji Wencheng at all and was simply here to find him.
Still, even though they had figured this out, they wouldn’t actively remind Si Rui, who was blinded by rage. After all, he was just a plaything easily discarded and Ji Wencheng wouldn’t hold it against them. Why stir up trouble? A half-hearted attempt at persuasion was enough. If it didn’t work, they could just let them tear each other apart like dogs!
The group offered insincere words of advice, which only added fuel to the fire, making Si Rui’s anger burn even hotter. Though he sat far away on the other side of the sofa, his gaze felt like sharp knives, piercing straight through Shen Yelin. If those looks could materialize, Shen Yelin would have been riddled with holes.
“Wencheng just took a call and stepped out for a moment,” someone approached, trying to cozy up to Shen Yelin. “I don’t think I’ve seen you around Wencheng before. Would you mind telling us who you are? Otherwise, we can’t help call him back.”
Shen Yelin glanced at the person briefly, then unlocked his phone and lowered his head to dial Ji Wencheng’s number.
Having been completely ignored, the person felt embarrassed and sat back down with an ugly expression. Yet, recalling Shen Yelin’s brief glance even though those eyes held nothing but indifference his heart raced uncontrollably. He couldn’t help but imagine how blissful it would be to pursue such a beauty himself.
Ji Wencheng, leaving such a stunning beauty alone while he went out to fool around? What a beast!!
The busy tone on the phone rang for a long while, but Ji Wencheng still didn’t answer the call.
Shen Yelin stared at the screen as it automatically disconnected, narrowing his eyes slightly.
Si Rui, who had been watching his every move, couldn’t help but feel smug. His eyebrows raised triumphantly as he stood up from his seat and strode over to Shen Yelin with an air of arrogance. “I already told you,” he said, “Brother Wencheng doesn’t go back to his exes. You should know your place. Why are you so shameless, clinging to him and asking for trouble?”
Shen Yelin looked up at him and asked calmly, “What’s your name?”
Si Rui instinctively took a step back, then realized he had shown weakness and immediately glared fiercely at Shen Yelin. “What does my name have to do with you?!”
“Then what do you do?” Shen Yelin pressed on. “Are you a student? Or unemployed? How old are you?”
“None of your damn business!” Si Rui choked on his words, furious. “Are you some street-corner census cop, asking so many details? What’s wrong with you!”
He was clearly infuriated by Shen Yelin’s barrage of questions, glaring at the man with gritted teeth. He glanced around and suddenly raised his voice, “Where are the security guards here? All dead or what?! This guy barged in without an invitation, and none of you are doing anything about it?? Aren’t you supposed to be a high-end entertainment venue? Is this how you handle security?!”
The servers nearby hesitated upon hearing this.
Seeing Si Rui’s reaction, the onlookers realized he wasn’t about to back down and swallow his pride. If this person really was Ji Wencheng’s precious darling, offending him now would only mean waiting for Ji Wencheng to come after them later.
They quickly tried to calm him down, “Si Rui, don’t be angry, don’t be angry! Wencheng invited everyone today to have a good time. You can’t ruin his party.”
“Yeah, yeah, it’s better to avoid trouble. Besides, he didn’t ask anything inappropriate, right? Just answer him and be done with it!”
Ever since Si Rui transformed into Ji Wencheng’s right-hand man, he had never been treated like this. Everyone always spoke to please him, each word sweeter than the last, let alone expecting him to swallow his pride. Now, out of nowhere, this Shen Yelin shows up no one even knows who he is and they’re telling him not to ruin Ji Wencheng’s party?? Where’s the logic in that?!
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, and Shen Yelin’s indifferent, detached face grew increasingly irritating. Breaking free from those trying to hold him back, he defiantly stepped closer to Shen Yelin and said, “Don’t think just because you’re sitting in Wencheng’s spot, he’ll even look at you. I’m telling you, you lowlife, don’t even dream about it!”
Shen Yelin’s expression remained unchanged, only shifting his gaze slightly backward, lingering on the entrance to the hall.
The system sighed, “Are students these days so mature already? He’s cursing so viciously, seems utterly lacking in manners. Host, your childhood friend’s taste seems a bit questionable.”
Shen Yelin rarely agreed with its opinions, but this time he did.
He also thought Ji Wencheng needed to get his eyes checked. But considering the man was essentially a playboy who never opened up to anyone, upon further reflection, this might actually be a good thing for society.
“Makes sense,” the system wholeheartedly agreed.
Seeing that Shen Yelin showed no reaction to his words and remained as indifferent as ever, Si Rui trembled with rage. Gritting his teeth, he suddenly caught sight of the array of liquor bottles on the table from the corner of his eye. His face lit up with a triumphant smile.
Everyone who saw that smile felt a jolt of alarm and hurriedly tried to stop him. But with a table between them, it was too late. They could only watch helplessly as Si Rui picked up a full glass of wine from the table, a smug grin on his face, ready to splash it on the person before him and give him a good lesson
Suddenly, a hand reached out from beside Si Rui its knuckles distinct, long and strong firmly restraining his next move.
Seeing that hand, Si Rui’s face instantly paled, and his lips trembled uncontrollably.
“Wen… Brother Wencheng.” He turned his head, forcing a strained, sweet smile at Ji Wencheng. “You’re back it really took so long. I was getting impatient waiting here”
“Just now,” Ji Wencheng looked at him, his voice low, “who were you calling a bitch?”
“I…” Si Rui hurriedly explained in panic, “I didn’t say anything just now, Brother Wencheng! You must have misheard!”
Ji Wencheng glanced at Shen Yelin, who was sitting in the corner watching the unfolding drama, then set down the glass in his hand. He picked up an unopened bottle of liquor, gave a cold look at the pale-faced Si Rui, and without hesitation, twisted off the cap. Expressionlessly, he poured the liquor over Si Rui’s head, not even blinking.
