Turns out I Was the CEO's White Moonlight [Rebirth] - Chapter 7
This is just ridiculous.
Although Shen Yelin had guessed from the pile of clothes left behind this morning that the other man came from a decent family, running into him in the restroom of the same club was pushing the limits of how small the world could be.
His expression remained unchanged as he stared at the man, not initiating any conversation.
Compared to when he was asleep, the man before him now exuded an even more careless and unrestrained air. His eyebrows were thick and slightly arched. The sharp lines at their ends, combined with his deeply set eyes, gave him an overall sense of wild and arrogant sharpness.
Shen Yelin was certain this man was exactly the type he disliked the most.
With one hand casually tucked into his trouser pocket, the man stood about three steps away from Shen Yelin and curled his lips into a cold, mocking smile.
“Shen Yelin, right?” He rolled the name on his tongue thoughtfully. “You’re quite something. I underestimated you.”
Shen Yelin replied flatly, “Is there something you need?”
The man let out a scoffing laugh, pulling a glossy black card from his pocket as he stepped closer. He held the card between his fingers, waving it in front of Shen Yelin so he could clearly see the dark golden text printed on it.
The Dorlingos Hotel.
It seemed the man remembered him quite well.
Shen Yelin thought to himself.
Unfortunately, given the current situation, it was unlikely he’d be able to get any useful information out of this man.
“Could it be you actually slept with him last night?” the system murmured quietly.
“Impossible,” Shen Yelin replied coldly. “There were only cigarette boxes in the trash. It looks like someone just smoked a whole pack while I was unconscious. As for anything else, don’t even think about it. Absolutely impossible.”
“Wah.”
“Still remember?” the man asked Shen Yelin.
“I remember.”
“Good, that makes things easier,” the man chuckled, tucking the key card into the breast pocket of Shen Yelin’s suit. “Sleep and run pretty impressive, huh?”
The system immediately cried out, “I told you, I told you, I told you!!! See, you did sleep with him!! And you still wouldn’t admit it!!! Host, you really are something else!!”
Shen Yelin: “Shut up.”
Unfazed, he raised his eyes, pulled the key card from his pocket, and mirrored the man’s action by slipping it back into the other’s pocket. “I’ve already paid for the room for today and tomorrow. You can stay until noon tomorrow before checking out. Don’t mention it.”
The man looked at him with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
“As for anything else.” Shen Yelin paused briefly before continuing, “Whether it happened or not, we both know the truth. No need to deliberately mislead anyone.”
The man stared at him for a long moment before finally saying, “Shen Yelin, you’re a bit smarter than I thought.”
Ignoring the remark, Shen Yelin pushed aside the man’s aggressively leaning shoulder, shoving him to the side, and walked out expressionlessly.
“Hey, wait a second,” the man suddenly turned and called out to him. “What’s your relationship with Ji Wencheng?”
Shen Yelin’s steps halted, and he glanced back slightly.
He had assumed this man was confronting him over losing face at the hotel. He never expected it had anything to do with Ji Wencheng.
Speaking of Ji Wencheng, if it weren’t for the fact that he had been close friends with Shen Yelin since childhood, Shen Yelin would have long kicked this kind of guy out of his social circle. After all, any normal person would find it unbearable to endlessly clean up a friend’s messes, especially when those messes involve emotional issues where their own side is in the wrong.
However, everyone around them knew that Ji Wencheng was Shen Yelin’s childhood friend. Even though Ji Wencheng often acted unreasonably, Shen Yelin had a good temperament. So, ever since Ji Wencheng awakened to the concept of love during his teenage years, Shen Yelin became the emotional dumping ground for every unfortunate ex Ji Wencheng had ever dumped. Diligently and without fail.
After years of cleaning up these messes, Ji Wencheng hadn’t grown tired of it, but Shen Yelin was thoroughly fed up.
He called Ji Wencheng and told him to properly handle the aftermath of each relationship, and not to let those people endlessly harass him anymore. In short, after that phone call, although their relationship wasn’t severely affected, Shen Yelin completely disappeared from Ji Wencheng’s social circle. Nowadays, not many people actually knew about their real connection.
Ji Wencheng was more socially adept than him and had a prominent reputation in the local social scene. If the man in front of him had seen Ji Wencheng last night, it wasn’t surprising that he would have such doubts.
Shen Yelin strongly suspected that the man before him might have been involved with Ji Wencheng in the past. Either his girlfriend had been stolen, or he himself had been dumped by Ji Wencheng. Shen Yelin had seen this kind of scenario many times before and could understand it quite well.
“This might just be the victim himself,” the system sighed heavily. “He probably just wanted to provoke you a bit, make you jealous. But going this far is really too much, what a sin.”
For once, Shen Yelin agreed with its opinion.
“I don’t know him,” he said to the man.
As soon as the words left his mouth, Shen Yelin saw the man standing in the distance suddenly narrow his eyes.
Just as Shen Yelin was about to leave, he heard another sentence from behind. This time, however, the meaning was clear: “I advise you, if you want to do well in the entertainment industry, it’s better not to find a sugar daddy like Ji Wencheng.”
The system: “!!!”
After a moment, it stammered, “Host, I mean… he, he, he is he mistaking you for.”
Shen Yelin remained calm. He had seen this kind of phrasing many times before it was a pretty standard opening move for chasing away a mistress.
Without waiting for the man to finish his sentence, Shen Yelin walked out of the restroom without looking back, leaving behind only four indifferent words:
“Thanks for the reminder.”
The system glanced at the stranger left behind in the restroom, then looked at its own host, who showed no sign of attachment. With tears welling up in its eyes, it hurriedly followed Shen Yelin back, wisely swallowing the second half of the sentence it hadn’t had time to say earlier.
Just moments ago, Shen Yelin’s surrounding “romance value” had suddenly spiked by a few points, and there were no other living people nearby. If this sudden increase in romance value didn’t belong to this unknown man, then who else could it be? Truly, this was the host it had chosen just a few casual words could charm someone. Such unreasonable charm!
It was supposed to be an all-powerful system, but now it had become nothing more than a useless entity that only knew how to cling to its host’s coattails. Yet, clinging to those coattails felt so good! What should it do? It had completely lost the will to strive anymore! Waaah!!
Of course, these thoughts were something the system only dared to indulge in privately for a moment. It would never dare to voice them in front of Shen Yelin.
Due to the unfamiliar man he had encountered in the restroom earlier, Shen Yelin was slightly delayed in returning.
Fu Jianyi showed great concern over his late return. He stood up from where he was sitting, casting a worried glance toward Shen Yelin and asking, “I hope you didn’t run into any trouble outside? Seeing that you hadn’t returned for a while, I was worried something might have happened to you.”
“Thank you for your concern,” Shen Yelin replied. “It was just a minor issue, but it’s been resolved.”
Hearing this, Fu Jianyi showed a relieved expression. “Good.”
The two sat at the table and chatted for a while longer, but the topic gradually shifted from their initial discussion of collaboration to several other subjects. Fu Jianyi was clearly the type who excelled at conversation. Even when faced with someone like Shen Yelin, who wasn’t fond of unnecessary talk, he managed to speak eloquently, skillfully guiding the conversation to keep it flowing.
“Even though I know he has ulterior motives toward you, I’m almost falling for him,” the system lamented. “How can there be a man in this world who’s so good at conversation?”
“You could package yourself up and send yourself over to him. That would be nice too,” Shen Yelin remarked.
The system ran away crying.
Shen Yelin glanced up at the wall clock in the room. The hands pointed to 9:30 it was getting late. Noticing this, Fu Jianyi quickly wrapped up the current topic with a few words and offered a faint smile. “I didn’t even notice the time it’s already 9:30. I’m truly delighted to have met you today, Mr. Shen. It feels like meeting a long-lost friend, giving me a very special feeling.”
“You’re too kind.”
Fu Jianyi chuckled softly. “I wonder if Mr. Shen would be willing to give me the chance to become friends with you? Although the business world doesn’t believe in genuine connections, I truly wish to become real friends with you, not just superficial business partners. If possible, I’d like to invite you out for gatherings or to visit some places during our private time outside of work.”
He paused briefly before continuing gently, “Of course, I also know that Mr. Shen isn’t fond of crowded places. To be honest, I’m not particularly fond of them either. After all, days off are rare, and I’d much rather spend them in peace and quiet. What do you think, Mr. Shen?”
After saying this, Fu Jianyi leaned forward slightly. The corners of his lips curved upward, but there was an undeniable sense of pressure in his demeanor. His sharp, upward-slanting phoenix eyes gleamed with determination as he gazed intently at Shen Yelin, who sat silently across from him.
“Oh ho, has Fu Jianyi suddenly had an epiphany?” the system remarked. “It seems he no longer intends to remain the unnoticed figure behind the scenes. Is he planning to lay his cards on the table openly and pursue you in a straightforward manner?”
Shen Yelin’s expression remained unchanged as he lowered his head, picked up the teacup that had just been refilled by the attendant, and took a sip.
Fu Jianyi watched Shen Yelin’s slightly lowered, thick and curly eyelashes. Noticing how those crow-feather-like lashes fluttered almost imperceptibly with his swallowing motion, a feeling suddenly stirred in his heart, as if someone were gently tickling it with a feather. Fu Jianyi forcibly averted his gaze, forcing himself to calm down, and once again offered Shen Yelin a perfectly measured smile as he set down the teacup.
This time, he had no intention of pressuring anyone. The words he had just spoken were merely a strategy to seize the initiative for future actions and make things easier down the line.
Fu Jianyi had no desire to relive the dream of a one-sided friendship. This time, he would take the initiative and corner Shen Yelin until there was no way out.
The teacup made a dull clink as it was placed back on the table.
Shen Yelin still kept his eyes lowered, seemingly pondering the feasibility of Fu Jianyi’s proposal.
“Host, what are you planning to do?” the system asked nervously. “Will you agree to him?”
