Transmigrating Behind the Mirror to Become Her Guardian Lady - Chapter 22.2
Sure enough, as soon as Jiang Weilu sat down in Liu Yi’s room, the woman opposite her began to speak, her expression one of deep distress.
“Lulu! I heard from Yuxi that you hit her yesterday? And only because of a mirror? How can you be so wicked at such a young age, to use such heavy hands!”
“What kind of mirror could possibly be more important than your sister! I cannot allow an object that destroys family relationships to exist. Did you find it? If you did, give it to me; I’ll throw it away for you.”
Familiar deflection and shamelessness. Not a word about Jiang Yuxi throwing the mirror away first, only about the hitting, and even righteously demanding to throw it away again. Jiang Weilu laughed softly; she had never realized her stepmother was this stupid.
“No one here is a fool, so let’s stop beating around the bush, shall we?”
Her fingertip tapped the table with a steady rhythm. Jiang Weilu looked at Liu Yi with a relaxed posture. “Aunt Liu, it’s useless to chase me like a mad dog. It doesn’t work in the Jiang family, does it? Otherwise, you wouldn’t still be looked down upon by my father after all this time.”
“Jiang Yuxi is a fool. Surely you should be more clear-headed?”
Having never heard Jiang Weilu speak so sharply, Liu Yi was momentarily stunned. In her memory, this brat had always been timid and afraid to resist. Who could have imagined she would suddenly tear off her mask today? How does she dare! Is she crazy!
Liu Yi’s mask was ripped away, and her face turned between white and red. “You’re calling me a mad dog?”
Jiang Weilu burst out laughing. “Ah, perhaps my father would prefer you like this—hysterical rather than…” She paused, narrowing her eyes and smiling. “Rather than that ‘little white flower’ act that everyone laughs at. Now, if you have nothing else, I’ll be going.”
With that, she gave a polite farewell and turned to leave. At the door, she ran into a maid bringing milk. Jiang Weilu stopped her with a smile. “It’s better not to go in right now.”
The maid was startled. “Ah? Why, Miss?”
Just as Jiang Weilu was about to speak, the sound of things being smashed and Liu Yi’s angry cursing came from inside the room. It provided the answer for her. Jiang Weilu glanced back, shrugged, and smiled.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the mirror…
While three months had passed for Jiang Weilu, Shu Mengli had only just finished work and returned home. Having been busy all day, she finally entered her house and threw herself onto the soft sofa, letting out a long sigh.
Working with A-Xiang and Hao Wei was truly exhausting! Guarding against one, then the other, and even after successfully managing both, worrying they’d start a fight! After the delays, she arrived home at 11:58 PM.
Looking at the clock in the living room, and fearing she’d miss the midnight transmigration, she didn’t even stop to take off her makeup after kicking off her heels. She sat on the sofa and waited for midnight.
Soon, the silent, carved mirror in the living room lit up as promised. The moment of reunion had arrived.
With a flash before her eyes, Shu Mengli was back in the mirror world. But this time, her usual calm was gone, as was her excitement to see Jiang Weilu. She stared at the water curtain in the mirror space with total shock.
The water curtain she knew so well was different. Originally, it had been moist, smooth, and silent like a mirror surface. Now, it was emitting a bright, glowing light like moonlight just like the full-length mirror in her living room at midnight!
She suddenly recalled the sphere that had appeared during her last visit and looked toward it. Her eyes widened as she noticed a change. During her last visit, only a tiny bit of dreamy substance had floated at the bottom. Now, it had surged to fill the entire ball.
Looking at the full sphere and then at the glowing water curtain, she understood instantly. The sphere was like a timer; as long as the substance within wasn’t full, everything remained as usual. But once it filled, it triggered this miraculous situation.
And as for what this miracle was? Looking at the water curtain glowing with the same light as her mirror at home, her heart beat faster and faster. If her guess was correct, she could use this to cross into Lulu’s world!
The excitement grew, but she didn’t dare move recklessly. The glowing curtain didn’t hinder her view, yet the world it showed—the world that should have been there—was pitch black. She couldn’t judge the mirror’s situation at all, making her worry for Jiang Weilu.
Ultimately, her concern for Lulu won out. She bit her lip, stepped forward, and reached toward the water curtain. The sensation was moist and cool, like touching lake water in winter, yet also like touching air no physical resistance.
Her hand passed through without hindrance! Just like when she entered the mirror from her home.
She looked back at the dark, silent mirror space, then turned her head to look at the curtain that had swallowed her hand. Gritting her teeth, she steeled her heart and walked in.
The scene shifted for a second. Shu Mengli had traveled somewhere else. She immediately looked around. She was in a room that was both familiar and strange—large, decorated in black and white, with a low-profile yet luxurious style. One glance told her the owner was a cold person.
After only two seconds, it hit her. This was the room of her little girl, Jiang Weilu!
But just then! Less than three seconds after she arrived, the bedroom door—which had been shut tight made a sound. It was being opened from the outside.
Shu Mengli was horrified. Because she had only just arrived and things happened so fast, she hadn’t had time to hide. she stood frozen, looking toward the door. She accidentally locked eyes with the person entering, their gazes intertwining.
Clatter. A sharp, loud sound. A glass shattered on the floor, and pure white milk splashed across the floorboards.
The person at the door stood staring into the room, as still as a wooden statue. Her eyes seemed to have forgotten how to blink; she just stared blankly at the person who had appeared in her territory.
It was a charming beauty. She wore a moonlight-colored, high-slit camisole dress that easily displayed her perfect, fair legs and outlined her slender waist. Her smooth, wavy long hair fell to her waist mature and sexy partially veiling the soft fullness of her chest. She was barefoot, her small toes with red nail polish treading on the floor as if treading on someone’s heart. Her lips were soft, her face wore exquisite makeup, and she was currently looking at her with panic, her eyes misty and piteous. One look was enough to make anyone fall.
Jiang Weilu had always known there was no one more beautiful in the world. But seeing her here with her own eyes made her heart tighten and her breath hitch. She didn’t dare breathe too loudly for fear it was an illusion—for fear of scaring away the “little spirit” in her room.
The two in the room looked at each other in silence. Only the wind blew softly through the window, stirring their thoughts. Shu Mengli slowly recovered from her initial shock, looking at Jiang Weilu at the door with a sigh of relief. Her guess was confirmed: as long as the substance in the sphere was full, she could cross into Lulu’s world.
Her thoughts cleared, and she parted her red lips to explain why she was here. But just then, a voice came from behind Jiang Weilu. A maid hurried over from the hall, asking respectfully:
“Miss, has something happened?”
The dazed Jiang Weilu snapped awake, turning her head to block the person about to enter. “No… nothing…”
Unfortunately, she had been dazed for too long. By the time she spoke, the diligent maid had already reached her and seen the scene inside. She looked at the mess with a surprised expression.
“Oh dear, the milk spilled! Don’t worry, Miss, I’ll go get things to clean it up right away.”
Shu Mengli, also snapping awake, began to retreat. She ran left, then right, turning in circles, but because she didn’t know the layout of the room, she failed to hide. She could only freeze where she was.
Jiang Weilu was also frozen at the door. The two in the room stood as still as statues.
Soon, the diligent maid returned with a broom and mop. Under the gazes of Shu Mengli and Jiang Weilu, she cleaned up the broken glass and milk. Throughout the process, she showed no surprise at the presence of a stranger in the room—it was as if she couldn’t see Shu Mengli at all.
Shu Mengli breathed a sigh of relief, realizing this must be a power of the mirror: perhaps no one but Jiang Weilu could see her.
The maid, earning her high salary, was efficient; she finished and left quickly. Jiang Weilu reacted instantly; the moment the maid was gone, she slammed the door and locked it. But she still wasn’t at ease, thinking she needed to change the locks as soon as possible.
When she turned around to see Shu Mengli standing there, her thoughts became dazed again. She didn’t know if she was dreaming. Shu Mengli looked at the “little gosling” at the door and couldn’t help but laugh. Her bare feet stepped silently across the floor as she walked toward Jiang Weilu.
Her gaze was soft and her smile gentle. She leaned down to the child’s eye level. “We finally meet. My dear Lulu, did you miss me?”
My. Dear.
The intimate words made Jiang Weilu’s face turn bright red. Her lips were pressed tight, and she couldn’t speak. She was too close! And… Sister smells so good.
Jiang Weilu felt a bit dizzy. Shu Mengli blinked at the suddenly blushing child. “What’s wrong? Does Lulu not recognize me?”
The soft question rang in her ears, and Jiang Weilu finally regained her senses, her voice stuttering. “Sis… Sister? Is it really Sister?” The thing she had longed for so much had actually happened, making it feel like a dream.
Shu Mengli’s eyes crinkled in a gentle smile. She reached out, gently took Jiang Weilu’s fingertips, and placed the child’s hand against her own cheek. The touch was warm and soft, like touching the softest cotton candy.
Jiang Weilu’s eyes widened. Then she saw the sister in front of her holding her hand, her red lips parting in a gentle smile. “It’s me.”
Physical. Tactile. Real!
The sister she thought of day and night had actually crossed through the mirror to stand before her! Jiang Weilu’s eyes turned red instantly. She couldn’t help but throw herself into Shu Mengli’s embrace, holding her tight.
“Sister, it’s really you!”
Caught off guard by the embrace, Shu Mengli was stunned for a moment before laughing and patting Jiang Weilu’s back. “I’m so happy to see you, Lulu.”
It was evening. Outside, the sunset shone through the transparent glass windows, bathing the floor in an orange glow. The light fell gently on the two people embracing in the room, outlining them in a warm glow. The two who had longed for this meeting were finally reunited.
9:00 PM. Three hours since Shu Mengli entered Jiang Weilu’s world.
After some exploration, she had figured out the limits of her transmigration. She could feel hunger and cold, and she could touch things in this world; her physical state was basically the same as any human. However, no one but Jiang Weilu could see her. She was like an invisible person—a useful “cheat code.”
Then, with the enthusiastic help of Jiang Weilu, she had eaten, removed her makeup, showered, and changed into a set of light, comfortable clothes. Now she was sitting on the edge of the child’s bed, swinging her legs idly.
Feeling a bit bored, she looked at the child sitting on the bed who was sitting about eight feet away from her and couldn’t help but laugh. “Lulu, why aren’t you sitting closer?”
It was strange. The person who had longed for this meeting every day had become timid and afraid to approach once it finally happened. She was terrified of doing something wrong and making the radiant person dislike her. It was as if she had finally met her favorite idol; she was so excited she was speechless, yet she was being so careful she didn’t even know where to put her hands.
The more she loved, the more she treasured.
Hearing her sister’s words, Jiang Weilu stiffly shifted her bottom toward Shu Mengli, answering vaguely: “Ah… mhm!”
Shu Mengli tilted her head, looking at her. “What’s wrong? Didn’t you used to cling to me every day, saying you wanted me to come out? Now that I’m here, is Lulu unhappy?”
“No! That’s not it!” Jiang Weilu’s voice was loud she contradicted her immediately. “I just… I just…” But as she spoke, her voice dropped again, her long, curled eyelashes fluttering like little fans. “I just feel like it’s a dream. I’m afraid I’ll wake up suddenly and Sister will be gone again.”
“Alright, alright, I was just joking.” Shu Mengli hadn’t expected her tease to make the child so tense. She shifted over, sat next to Jiang Weilu, and reached out to stroke her soft hair. “See? I really did come over.”
The scent unique to her sister instantly enveloped her, drifting into her nose. The touch on her head was soft and warm, and Jiang Weilu couldn’t help but be dazed, her little head nodding along with the strokes. The Jiang family was cold; everyone lived their own lives, wishing the others would die sooner. Thus, Jiang Weilu was rarely so close to someone especially her favorite sister in the whole world.
For a moment, the little devil who was so good at disguising herself couldn’t help but have red tips on her ears. Like a golden retriever with its ears down, she obediently let her sister ruffle her hair. But her “peach blossom” eyes flickered, and after struggling with herself for a long while, she finally couldn’t help but ask.
She looked up at Shu Mengli sitting beside her. “Sister, why did it take you so long to return this time? Three months have passed! And you actually came out of the mirror! Can you come out every time from now on? How long will you stay this time?”
Faced with the barrage of questions, there were few Shu Mengli could answer. Her hand stroking the child’s head paused, and she let out a sigh. “The fact that I could appear is probably a power of the mirror. I’m not sure when I can come or when I have to leave. I’m sorry, Lulu.”
Jiang Weilu shook her head vigorously. “It’s… it’s okay, Sister! I said I would always wait for you.”
Seeing her sister’s difficulty, she was smart enough to stop there and didn’t press further. She didn’t ask about the many loopholes in Shu Mengli’s words. For example, if you’re a spirit of the mirror, why can’t you control the power? And why don’t you know anything?
Seeing that the child didn’t press and wasn’t disappointed by her answer, Shu Mengli breathed a sigh of relief. Then she couldn’t hold it back and let out a tiny yawn, covering her mouth. After traveling here without the protection of the mirror space, her body was no different from a human’s; she would get hungry and, especially, tired. Making matters worse, she had been tortured by A-Xiang and Hao Wei yesterday, working late into the night. Now, she naturally couldn’t hold on much longer.
Jiang Weilu was very thoughtful. Seeing her sister’s misty eyes and the fatigue on her brow, she immediately suggested: “Sister, how about we go to sleep early?”
Where would they sleep? On Jiang Weilu’s bed, of course.
When the two of them one large, one small lay side-by-side on the bed, Shu Mengli was relaxed and comfortable. In contrast, the owner of the bed, Jiang Weilu, was incredibly stiff, lying on the very edge and not daring to move an inch.
Shu Mengli, who had been on the verge of falling asleep, looked back to say goodnight and saw the frozen Jiang Weilu. She couldn’t help but laugh. She rolled over, instantly closing the distance between them, and pulled the child into her embrace.
Her breath brushed against the girl’s ear. “Lulu, what are you thinking about?”
Jiang Weilu froze instantly. From…
