- Transmigrating Behind the Mirror to Become Her Guardian Lady
- Chapter 14 - An Accidental Sight
The old butler stood where he was, watching the girl’s receding figure as she ran off. He shook his head with a smile. The Eldest Miss seems to be getting more and more cheerful lately; she is completely different from how she was when she first arrived. Though he didn’t know the cause, it was a good thing that she was no longer closing herself off from the world.
The oncoming cold wind felt like it had thorns; as it scraped across her face, it felt like her skin was being sliced by soft yet resilient paper, causing a faint sting. Jiang Weilu, however, didn’t care about this at all. Her face was radiant with a smile as she sprinted along the narrow paths of the back mountain.
The continuous heavy snow from previous days had draped the entirety of Mount Li in a white shroud. Even the usually secluded mountain trails were now coated in a layer of “powdered sugar.” Since she began training with the old butler, Jiang Weilu often came to the back mountain, but she had never come here alone with Shu Mengli.
That was why Jiang Weilu had been so happy to hear the butler’s suggestion; now, she finally had ample time to be alone with her sister. She could finally show her the scenery she had seen along her journey.
Of course, aside from her physical training with the butler, Jiang Weilu also studied academic subjects with Shu Mengli. The two of them often spent time before bed chatting about everything under the sun, which was immensely pleasant.
But desire is something that exists in every human heart; no one is exempt. Once a person possesses something, they inevitably want more. Jiang Weilu always felt that their time together was too short; no matter how much time she spent clinging to her sister, it was never enough.
This time, there was no butler following them. Jiang Weilu ran freely along the snowy mountain path, practically impatient as she pulled the small mirror from her chest.
The precious round mirror was perfectly clear, its frame carved with complex and beautiful patterns—mysterious and elegant. Yet all of this paled in comparison to the person currently sitting inside the mirror.
She was a beauty of breathtaking allure. Her hair was down, long and soft waves cascading casually around her, every curl exuding charm. She was smiling slightly, her red, full lips curved upward, looking vividly radiant against the black hair falling by her cheeks. The white snow of Mount Li lay quietly behind her, yet her skin was more porcelain-white than the snow itself.
The moment Jiang Weilu saw her, she burst into a happy smile, shouting as she ran: “Sister!”
In response, the beautiful sister in the mirror reminded her in a gentle tone: “Slow down.”
Jiang Weilu always listened to her. Her steps slowed gradually as she exhaled a puff of white mist. She had never imagined her life could be like this—being able to run wild in the snow, to laugh out loud with abandon, to meet a little pixie, and to see beautiful scenery together.
Jiang Weilu’s chest heaved; she hadn’t quite caught her breath from the running, but she couldn’t wait to hold up the small mirror to show her sister the surrounding views. Her tone was exuberant, like a child presenting a treasure. “Sister, look!”
Shu Mengli looked out as prompted. Her gaze traveled far, seeing the undulating mountains covered in white. The green pines were encased in thin, brittle ice, looking like exquisite vessels of emerald jade and glazed glass, without a single flaw. For a moment, she couldn’t help but be immersed in the view.
Unfortunately, the back mountain wasn’t far, and the trails weren’t that long; it was a pity that the beauty couldn’t be enjoyed for longer. But it made sense if the mountain were high and dangerous, the butler wouldn’t have felt comfortable letting Jiang Weilu come alone.
Soon, they reached the summit where Jiang Weilu usually trained. Following the butler’s directions, before they even reached the plum grove, the fragrance wafted toward them to lead the way. Then, turning a corner, the scenery finally came into view.
For a moment, there was silence. Both the person inside and outside the mirror froze in place, unable to speak for a long time. It was only after seeing such a magnificent sight with their own eyes that they realized life could bloom so fiercely in winter that such a scene could exist amidst ice and snow.
The red plum blossoms covering the mountainside were like flowing fire in winter, setting half the forest ablaze. The ultimate red collided with the dazzling white; they resisted yet blended into one another, making the plum blossoms appear more vivid and the snow more sacred.
Shu Mengli couldn’t help herself; she let out a delighted “Wow!” She had rarely even seen snow in previous years, let alone such peerless beauty in a frozen world.
Jiang Weilu was snapped out of her daze by the sister’s surprised voice. She turned her gaze to look at her, and from then on, her eyes never moved away. Her gaze was even more focused than when she was looking at the flowers.
The gorgeous, perfect profile of the Guardian Angel Miss was reflected in her pupils. That person’s sweet smile was more beautiful than the entire plum grove. Just by sitting there, she made one easily understand the meaning of the phrase “the person is more delicate than the flowers.”
Jiang Weilu held up the mirror, her gaze deep. It seemed she had met someone far too dazzling in her youth, someone who had saved her entire life. So much so that even after traveling the world later on, she would feel that the most magnificent sights on earth were merely “alright” in comparison.
Jiang Weilu looked seriously at the person in the mirror. Then, she raised her hand high, lifting the small mirror. Still feeling it wasn’t enough, she stood on her tiptoes, trying her best to hold the mirror even higher.
This awkward posture made her lose her balance, causing her to shuffle in place and trample the pure white snow into a circle of messy footprints. Jiang Weilu didn’t feel tired at all; she maintained the position just so the sister inside could see the distant scenery better.
The child used this method to please the person she cared about most with all her might. It might have been very naive and childish, but children are like that they always want to give the best things to their most cherished person. It might not be expensive it might just be a marshmallow but it is the best she can offer right now, her most precious “whole world.”
Shu Mengli was startled into a cry by the child’s sudden move. Once she recovered from the shock, she couldn’t help but laugh. “Luolu, what are you doing? You’ll get tired, put me down quickly.”
However, Jiang Weilu didn’t move, continuing to hold the mirror high. “It’s okay, I’m not tired. Sister, take your time looking.”
Truth be told, the child’s method was indeed useful. By standing high and looking far, Shu Mengli was suddenly able to take in the distant scenery. The fire-like red etched itself into her eyes; it was absolutely mesmerizing. She could even see the highway in the distance—a grey ribbon winding through the mountains, faintly bringing one back from a fairyland to the modern world.
Shu Mengli was momentarily captivated, but she quickly came to her senses. She was worried the child’s arms would get sore and wanted to tell her to put the mirror down.
Just as she was about to speak, her gaze instinctively flickered toward the distant highway. However, that single look brought an unexpected shock.
Shu Mengli was completely stunned. her pupils contracted slightly, and the words she was about to say became lodged in her throat, unable to be uttered at all.
