- Transmigrated into the Zerg Race: Didn't We Agree to Call Off the Engagement?
- Chapter 17 - The Wager
A Harsh Homecoming
On the other side, at Cyril’s home.
“Kneel!”
The cold male looked at his own son with a sinister gaze. This was a son who brought him lifelong shame.
Logically, no Zerg should hate their own offspring, especially a male. When Cyril was still an egg, his father could feel his mental power through constant connection. It was a wonderful sensation, as if a tiny, fragile creature was asking his father what he should look like so he could grow to match him.
The father could feel the tiny life inside the egg slowly changing according to his descriptions. After seven months of incubation, the egg would produce a small infant. It was a sense of creation beyond imagination.
He had once anticipated his son’s arrival with such fervor, wishing he could bring all the world’s treasures to him. However, the result defied all expectations. The union between an S-rank male and an SS-rank military female had produced a male with a congenital mental disability.
How was that possible?
The offspring of an S-rank male and an SS-rank military female should have been at least S-rank for a female and A-rank for a male. Cyril was an anomaly. The father refused to believe it and searched every star system in the Zerg territory, but the result remained unchanged. They could only stabilize Cyril at B-rank.
“What did you do to make Victor break off the engagement with you?”
Cyril’s eyes lit up. “He actually broke it off!”
The old male slammed his hand onto the table. “You are happy about being rejected? Do you have even a shred of ambition?”
“We were never a good match to begin with. Besides, I told you long ago that I already have a female I like. I will only marry him.”
“You dare talk back? Was it because you talked nonsense at the male gatherings that Victor changed his mind? I thought you were useless before, but you have managed to refresh my understanding of the word.”
Cyril trembled, but remembering Sirius’s words, he lifted his head. “I am not a useless male.”
“What did you say?”
“I said, I am not a useless male,” Cyril stated seriously. “I have my own thoughts and my own reflections. That is called being brave.”
“Hahaha!”
“Brave? You are exceptionally ridiculous. Simply falling in love with an S-rank female is brave?” The old male paced around him, then suddenly laughed as if a thought had struck him.
“Fine. Since you are so brave, let us see if your true love is as brave as you are. Cyril, do not say your father does not love you. Even though you disgrace me, I do not want to see you pining over a one-sided affection. In all these days, that true love of yours has not come to see you once. He clearly does not care about you at all.”
That is not right. He must be helping me deal with that obstructive military Zerg.
Cyril was extremely confident, but he knew he could not tell his father. Otherwise, his father would surely retaliate against Sirius. Cyril pursed his lips and remained silent. Seeing his silence, the old male’s expression grew even darker.
“I know young Zerg do not like listening to us. Even if I told you to be with someone of equal rank, you would refuse. So, let us make a wager. From now on, your engagement will officially still exist to the outside world. If he dares to come for you before the wedding, I will agree to let you be together. But if he does not come, you will obediently accept the political marriage, no matter who it is.”
“Fine! He will definitely come!” Cyril said resolutely.
Returning to his room, Cyril held Sirius’s jacket. His heart was not as calm as he pretended. He believed Sirius would come for him, but he worried about his father. Would his father make things difficult for Sirius? After all, Sirius was a female who supposedly could not help him.
When Sirius had brought him back, his father seemed happy, but Cyril knew that man would never be grateful just because Sirius saved him. His father had taken Sirius aside for a private talk. What did they say? Was Sirius in danger?
Regardless, he would hold on. Just as the books said, Zerg who truly love each other receive the Mother’s blessing. Cyril looked out the window, his expression more solemn than ever before.
Sirius.
Domestic Unease
Meanwhile, in the male apartment.
Julian, dressed in casual home clothes, was hanging up freshly washed sheets. After giving up on becoming Sirius’s primary spouse, he had somehow managed to move into the home. Theoretically, he should be happy. Once Lex returned, he would become the secondary spouse of a high-ranking male.
He would stand by Sirius’s side legitimately. He would never have to worry about being unloved or the status of his future offspring. He would be protected by law and share Sirius’s privileges.
Most of the time, Sirius was a gentle male. Aside from the chaos of that one night, he was considerate toward Julian. Yet, for some reason, Julian did not feel happy. He felt terrified.
Julian found himself unwilling to leave the house. He felt he had to stay by the male’s side, or something terrible might happen. Consequently, after ensuring the film crew would not leak the male’s private affairs, he canceled all his work to focus on accompanying Sirius. Sirius was also on leave.
Julian gripped the semi-dry fabric of a duvet cover. Was the male’s recent abnormal behavior due to something bad that happened during the time he was missing?
“Julian, why are you doing the laundry?” Having just finished contacting other males, Sirius came out and saw the busy Julian, and he frowned. “Did the household robot go on strike?”
“No, Julian was just idle and wanted something to do.”
Julian quickly hung the item up, forced a brilliant smile, and walked over to take Sirius’s arm, guiding him to the sofa.
“Julian.”
Sirius looked at him seriously. “You do not need to turn down that role for me. I do not mind. That is your work, and you enjoy it, do you not?”
“No.” Julian felt tense. He had not expected Sirius to bring this up and he stammered uncharacteristically. “Master, Julian is, is.”
Sirius reached out, placing a hand over Julian’s mouth to interrupt him.
“They only used me as a reference. It does not mean they want to threaten me. I will not be bothered by it. I am fine. Julian, I am fine. Better than ever before.”
“But then Master would be home all alone.”
Julian’s reason slipped out, and he awkwardly covered his mouth. Sirius looked at him and could not help but find it funny.
Julian was afraid of him being home alone? He was an adult, yet Julian worried about him being home alone. When had he become such a troublesome Zerg? Sirius pulled Julian down into his arms.
“What could happen to me alone at home? I am planning to change jobs soon and will be out frequently for gatherings with other males. Even if you do not work, you cannot be with me all the time.”
Julian hesitated, looking Sirius up and down. He bit his lip and asked worriedly, “Are you really going to gather with other males?”
He was even more uneasy now. Sirius rarely attended male gatherings. The last time was back when they first met. It was precisely because Sirius rarely attended that the other males kept offering him drinks, leading to him getting drunk and giving Julian his opportunity.
While Julian stood by his past actions, he still harbored concerns about such gatherings. A male who usually hated socializing suddenly wanting to attend parties, combined with Sirius’s strange behavior, was concerning.
“Master, Julian is so bored at home alone. Can you take Julian with you?”
Julian tugged at Sirius’s arm, shaking it playfully. Sirius caught his fingers and moved them away one by one.
“No, Julian. You can go back to work. Playing a male is a difficult task. Everyone says you will become the female who most attracts males and the male who most attracts females because of it. Julian, you do not need to do anything for me. There is no need.”
Sirius lost track of how many times he had said this. Why did everyone think he was unwell? He felt great. He had completely thought things through. Was it not wonderful to be a standard, worry-free male?
Julian wanted to say more, but Sirius, becoming impatient, placed a hand over his face.
“Julian, do not make me angry, alright?”
Julian opened his mouth but could only comply, leaning obediently against Sirius and stroking the back of Sirius’s hand as if trying to soothe him.
How strange.
Sirius decided to ignore him, leaning back on the sofa and checking the Master Brain. He had not lied to Julian. He really was going to attend a male gathering, and more than one.
[Sirius, let us meet at my house today and go together. I promise I will stay by your side this time and will not let you get drunk again.]
[Thank you, Clyde. You are always so kind-hearted.]
[Don’t thank me yet. Although the First Councilor will attend this gathering, I cannot help you much. To get what you want, you will have to rely on your own efforts.]
[Of course, I will work hard. Regardless of the outcome, you helped me, did you not?]
[Alright, alright. You are still so considerate. Helping you always brings joy. I look forward to meeting this afternoon.]
[As do I.]
Sirius’s expression remained entirely blank. He finished his conversation with Clyde and looked down to see Julian lying on the sofa, chin propped on his hands. Seeing Sirius look over, Julian smiled and scooted forward, resting his head on Sirius’s thigh.
Sirius rubbed Julian’s chin and prepared to turn off the optical computer. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a message he had not noticed before.
[Sirius, can we meet again?]
It was Elias.
