- Transmigrated into the Zerg Race: Didn't We Agree to Call Off the Engagement?
- Chapter 14 - Tell Him Not to Wait Any Longer
As expected.
Watching the genetic test results and accompanied by a sudden buzzing in his brain, Sirius collapsed. The results confirmed a biological kinship with the Zerg, with the time of death occurring no more than a year ago.
What kind of evolution could allow a species to transform from a large, insect-faced vermin to a creature with a human body and insect face, and finally into a humanoid with a human head and body while retaining only partial insect characteristics, all within a single year?
Sirius began to laugh. It was a silent, forceful laughter that brought tears to his eyes before stopping abruptly. He stood up numbly and slowly. He had not been expecting much. It was alright. He had said he was not expecting anything, so he was not in despair now. He still had other things to do. He had to go to work.
Sirius staggered a few steps, stood still for a moment to steady himself, then opened his office door and knocked on the one next to it. The laboratory and the office were connected, so when Sirius knocked, Feinte came out wearing experimental robes. Sirius then realized that he was not wearing his work uniform or his lab robes, but that no longer mattered. There was no need for him to continue his research. He had obtained the definitive results.
“Sirius?” Feinte, an A-rank male and a colleague who could actually talk with Sirius, looked puzzled. “Did something happen? You do not seem to be in a good state. Is it because you have not recovered from the incident a few days ago? Do you need me to take you to the hospital?”
“No, thank you. I am fine. I just wanted to ask if there is any work that needs to be done. I am very free right now.”
Feinte scanned Sirius suspiciously, but Sirius had regained his usual expression. The flawless smile convinced him. “As long as you are fine. But I really do not seem to have anything for you.” He tapped his chin, thought for a moment, and finally shook his head. “However, the Sixth Fleet is on its way. If you feel bored, you can go check things out there in a couple of days.”
“The Sixth Fleet?”
“Yes, it is the Sixth Fleet’s turn to dock at the Central Star.” Mentioning this made Feinte visibly happier. “They are arriving quite early. The fleet that went out has not even returned yet. It would be great if they returned as well. I really hope they come back soon so I can get my gifts faster. And Sirius,” Feinte drawled, looking at Sirius with a smile, “Are you about to marry a Female Sovereign as well? He has kept you waiting long enough. The Zerg Mother will surely bless you both.”
“Is that so? But I might change my mind.”
Sirius spoke the words naturally. Feinte was surprised at first, but he quickly returned to his normal expression. “Oh, it is his own bad luck for choosing to leave at this time. There are so many Zerg waiting in line to be your Female Sovereign. Being a female attendant to an S-rank male is still a good choice.”
Sirius smiled again and casually mentioned, “By the way, do you know the name of the current commander of the Sixth Fleet? I remember he just took office recently and should not be married yet.”
“Are you going to choose a new military Zerg to be your Female Sovereign?”
Sirius did not answer, merely smiling. Feinte gave him a thumbs up. “Military Zerg are indeed great. A male of your rank should definitely get to know more of them.”
“By the way, Sirius, have you heard? A new B-rank male has arrived at the Central Star. I heard his father wants him to marry an SSS-rank military Zerg.”
Sirius’s hand froze as he helped wash a bottle. He instinctively gripped the neck of the bottle tightly. “I have not heard of it.”
“I thought so. You are too quiet; you never take the initiative to ask about these things. He has a female he likes and is searching the whole world for him, but he cannot describe the other party’s appearance. Poor child.” Feinte was full of pity, then turned back to Sirius. “Sirius, if you see”
“Ah!”
Feinte let out a scream. Sirius turned around blankly only to find Feinte clutching his own hand, shouting in alarm. “Quick, robot! Bring the medical kit immediately!”
Before Sirius could ask why, the robot brought the medical kit and handed it to him. Only then did Sirius realize that the bottle had shattered, spraying his hands with blood. The light green blood flowed silently, making Sirius realize clearly that he was just a Zerg, an ordinary insect.
“Feinte,” his voice was dry, “Tell him not to wait anymore. Tell him not to wait for that female Zerg. He should find a better one to love in the future.”
He would deal with that obstructive military Zerg for him. One of them had to be happy.
Meanwhile, in a certain female apartment, a cold voice echoed. “What? Is sending a secret message once not enough? Do you insist on having him come to see me in person?”
“Elias does not understand what you mean.”
“Heh, do you think I do not know what you are doing just because you used an optical computer signal jammer?”
The voice did nothing, yet Elias collapsed to the ground, clutching his head in agony. “What do you think you are? Except for him, all of you insects can be connected to my mental power as long as you are alive. You can only hide from me if you are dead. Elias, my patience is limited. He must be the one to find me. Last time, considering he did not hear it, I spared you temporarily. You must remember your identity! You are just a tool who took care of him. Do not think too highly of yourself. If I ever hear you reveal a single word again, you will never have to speak again.”
Silence returned to the room. Elias lay slumped on the floor, his hand over his eyes to hide his expression. It was all his fault. He was the one who uploaded the diary to the Master Brain backup. He was the one who reported Sirius’s abnormal mental power growth. He was the one who exposed Sirius to the monitoring of the Central Master Brain. How could he possibly atone for his crimes?
On the other side, Sirius returned home. From a distance, he smelled a cloyingly sweet fragrance. Two guard robots stood outside. “Greetings, Your Excellency. A detection this morning revealed an A-rank female in your home. However, it is not yet time to evict females, so we cannot remove him. Do you require our assistance?”
“No, thank you. You do not need to evict him if you see him in the future.”
He walked into the house and closed the door. The moment the door shut, a warm, sweet body pressed against his back. “Welcome back!”
There was a very sweet scent of honey. Sirius’s hollow heart seemed to skip a beat. “Julian, did you not go to film today?”
“No, I felt that play was not very good. The military Zerg have too high expectations for males, so I refused. Fortunately, I spoke up in time, so I had time today to bake small cakes for my Master.”
Sirius held the hands crossed over his waist, turned around, and pulled Julian into his arms. “Thank you, Julian. I like them very much.”
The dense texture and the perfect level of sweetness gave Sirius a surge of appetite. Although Zerg generally loved sweets, Sirius had remained accustomed to salty foods for many years. This was the first time he had eaten such a large cake by himself.
Sirius reclined on the sofa while Julian’s early programs played on the television. Julian’s frustrated voice kept drifting from the kitchen as he argued with the household robot over chores. The dim yellow light and the warm presence of Julian made Sirius wonder: if he just controlled himself to think of nothing, would he become an ordinary male and avoid this inner torment?
Sirius slowly closed his eyes. Just wait a little longer. He still had to resolve Cyril’s situation. He had to save him.
Cyril’s fiancé was an SSS-rank military Zerg from the Sixth Fleet. To help Cyril, Sirius had to find out why they made this deal. Cyril’s father, an S-rank male, was likely trying to enter the Council and needed external military force. Since the Sixth Fleet would be stationed at the Central Star for the coming year, it was logical to set his sights on them.
Sirius could choose to socialize with other males to pressure the military Zerg or support Cyril’s father politically to make him give up the pairing. But he was so tired. Every one of these methods required a great deal of effort. He wanted a more convenient and faster method.
Fortunately, he had already thought of one.
