- Chapter 12 - As if Returning to Childhood
Reigniting Hope
Sirius felt something wet on his face. Was Elias crying?
Sirius blankly touched his own cheek.
Oh, it turned out that he was the one crying. Elias was simply holding his head.
How strange. Why was he crying? He should be smiling instead. After all, there was no longer any need to be conflicted, was there?
“I am fine, Elias. I am fine. I am fine,” Sirius murmured repeatedly, unsure if he was speaking to Elias or to himself.
“Good, you are fine. Then it is I who have an issue. Sirius, I am so sad. Will you hold me? Just like you did when you were little, alright?”
Sirius froze for a moment, then reached out and gently patted Elias’s shoulder.
Elias pulled him into a tighter embrace.
The warm sunlight, the refreshing breeze, and the familiar embrace; Sirius leaned into Elias’s arms, curling up. Accompanied by the gentle murmur of nursery rhymes, he softly closed his eyes.
It felt as if he had returned to his childhood.
When he had first emerged ignorantly from his eggshell, the first thing he saw was this strange person. This silver-haired being had cheered and lifted him gently, tenderly coaxing him to eat the strange eggshell. Nestled in a warm cradle, Sirius had no idea where he was, but he felt a profound sense of peace and tranquility.
He drifted into a deep sleep.
“Sirius, Sirius.”
Elias called out in a low voice. In his arms, Sirius’s eyelashes fluttered slightly before settling still; he did not wake.
Elias let out a soft laugh. Still holding Sirius, he tenderly rubbed his cheek against Sirius’s forehead, gently patting his shoulder. He turned his head until their noses touched and pressed a shallow kiss to the corner of the younger male’s lips.
“Sirius, keep exploring, alright? He has always been watching you. Do not stop. Do not let yourself be defeated, okay, Sirius?”
“He is not a kind Lord. He is a wicked demon bug.”
“Sirius.”
Elias pressed his face against Sirius’s head and closed his eyes longingly, whispering, “I am guilty. My sins are inexcusable. It is all my fault for hurting you. I should never have spoken of your matters from the very beginning, Sirius.”
“Sirius.”
A teardrop fell. The wet sensation caused Sirius’s eyelids to twitch. He opened his eyes in astonishment and blankly touched his eyes.
Had the tears stayed on his eyes this entire time?
Sirius instinctively looked around, but Elias was nowhere to be seen. He was sitting alone on a bench under the shade of a tree, a coat from an unknown source draped over his shoulders.
Was it Elias’s? Sirius felt a bit dazed.
“You are awake?”
A voice came from a distance. Sirius looked up and met Elias’s gentle gaze.
“What is it, Sirius?” Elias blinked and walked over to him. “Have you forgotten me in such a short time?”
Sirius did not speak. His eyes were hollow as he stared straight at Elias. After a long while, he asked bluntly, “Why did Teacher suddenly come looking for me?”
“I,” Elias’s eyes flickered slightly as he looked at Sirius with warmth and affection. “I received news of your complaint.”
“Sirius, did something happen? Those were the birth announcements sent when you were born. The entire Zerg race was celebrating for you.”
Recalling that time, the tenderness in Elias’s eyes became even more genuine. His purple eyes gazed deeply at Sirius’s face.
“You have always, always been the best bug I have ever seen, Sirius. In my eyes, you are the best, forever.”
“If you are unhappy, you must tell me, alright? I am the same as always, always willing to listen to you, okay?”
Elias leaned in close, gently cupping Sirius’s face as if handling a precious, fragile object. Their foreheads met, rubbing together softly.
Sirius had been very cute as a child.
He was not skilled with his tail hook and often fell down for no reason. But when he fell, he did not get angry like other males; he would look around to see if anyone was watching, then silently stand back up.
Occasionally, he had nightmares at night. Seeing his own tail hook, he would shrink back in fear. At those times, Elias would be startled awake by him, pull the little male into his arms, and sing lullabies to coax him. Sirius would then tug on Elias’s hair and whisper stories to him.
He had many whimsical ideas. He would tell stories of Rapunzel with her long hair, the seven dwarfs, and the Little Mermaid. He even imagined a place where creatures called humans existed; creatures without tail hooks or insect carapaces. As a young boy, he vowed he would find that planet.
Elias found him adorable, so he carefully recorded Sirius’s words. He planned to keep them so that when Sirius no longer needed him, he could look at these records, think of him, and spend the rest of his long life that way.
This was also the thing he regretted most.
Sirius blinked, watching as the look in Elias’s eyes grew complicated. Finding it somewhat inexplicable, Sirius reached out and grabbed Elias’s hair.
Teacher was an S-rank female. Because of his gentle and clean personality, he had been chosen as a caregiver for young males. When Sirius first arrived in the Zerg world as a child, he was not used to it. Out of a hatchling complex, he viewed Elias as his own, saying, “I do not want Teacher to teach other males.”
After Sirius left the male nursery, Elias also resigned from his beloved job and lived in seclusion on the Rainforest Star. The two had not met for a long time.
“Has Teacher been well these years?”
“Very well. Though sometimes I miss you.” Elias lowered his head and buried his face in Sirius’s shoulder, taking a deep breath.
“Mmh, you do not have that milky childhood scent anymore.”
Sirius let out a low laugh. “I am all grown up now. How could I still be drinking milk?”
“Is that so? That is a pity.”
Sirius shook his head, ignoring Elias’s strange remark, and simply enjoyed a moment of peace.
“Sirius, do you remember the stories you told me when you were little?”
“You said the Little Mermaid in the human world felt like she was walking on knives with every step, but she never regretted it. Instead, she worked hard to obtain an immortal soul.”
Sirius looked up in shock. “You.”
“Shh,” Elias pressed his forefinger to Sirius’s lips, signaling him to be silent.
“Sirius, though I do not know what an immortal soul is, you are braver than the Little Mermaid. You deserve to obtain even more than what you want. Sirius, do not be afraid.”
He spoke with extraordinary seriousness, as if he knew something.
Sirius swallowed hard, only then realizing how dry his throat was. “What are you saying?”
“Those were just stories from my imagination.” He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. “Those are things that do not exist at all, right?”
Elias smiled but did not answer, merely staring at Sirius.
Sirius’s heart inevitably began to race.
On the way back, he even began to hum a song. With a strange melody, he returned home happily, his body feeling lighter than he could have imagined.
When he returned, he brought back some skeletal remains, which he kept in his starship.
It should be mentioned that because of the accident, the starship company had paid him a large sum of money. The starship naturally belonged to Sirius now, and it was currently parked in the hangar within his four-dimensional space.
Before entering the starship, Sirius took a deep breath, suppressed his excitement, and gently pressed the door release button.
The interior was a mess. There were broken control levers, sand all over the floor, and a large pile of skeletal remains in the corner.
Originally, they should have been in his pocket, but Cyril had been disgusted by them and did not want them there.
Fortunately, they were not kept there.
His work uniform was gone. He could not quite remember if Cyril had taken it or if it had been lost.
Sirius carefully gathered the different skeletons, took them out of the four-dimensional space, and put the key back in the drawer. He straightened each bone one by one, aligned them, placed them in a box, and then neatly stored them in a spatial button.
It was a brooch-style spatial storage device, a style Sirius often used.
Sirius’s hands trembled slightly. He held his right hand with his left, pinned the brooch to his chest, and leaned against the back of the sofa. His heart was pounding violently.
Tomorrow. Tomorrow he would know.
He could not think about it anymore. His head ached terribly. He deliberately forced himself to think about something else.
First, he thought of Julian. This female had been intimate with him just last night. Julian had already submissively backed down. What if, what if these bones were not from the same period?
Right, what if they were not?
That planet was so dry, and Zerg bones were so tough and resistant to decay. There could be a gap of hundreds of thousands or even millions of years between them.
They might not have died at the same time. Perhaps a bug, in an attempt to get out, had specifically moved those bones there. At most, it was just that too many bugs had died in the same batch, which was why so many were climbing upward.
And!
That planet, such a desolate planet, might have just been a former place of exile. Criminal Zerg were simply exiled there. How could there be an Insect Mother there?
Sirius covered his thumping heart, telling himself not to expect too much. That was not allowed. He had already confirmed that Elias was not human. In Sirius’s own eyes, those words were an intimation, but in Elias’s eyes, they might just be simple comfort.
Elias knew him so well; in this situation, he could see Sirius’s mood with a single glance. Would it not be perfectly normal to use that to comfort him?
The greater the disappointment, the greater the hope. Sirius, you must stay steady!
Sirius clenched his fists. The feeling of his fingernails digging into his flesh made him more alert. He knew he could not let himself think this way.
He needed something to do.
He first thought of Cyril, but after sending him back, he had not kept his contact information. Aside from dealing with that fiancé, he did not plan to have much more to do with him.
Thus, he thought of Julian, who was currently at work.
Yes, he could go see Julian. He could not stay alone anymore.
