Transmigrated into the Early-Deceased Alpha Fiancée of the Female Lead - Chapter 26
The skeletal general stared at Zhu Changxuan with his glowing blue eyes. After a moment of silence, he asked,
“You recognize me?”
Zhu Changxuan kept her composure. She clasped her hands and gave a respectful bow before replying,
“I only made a guess.”
The skeletal general nodded.
“You guessed correctly.”
Zhu Changxuan had once been unable to cultivate, so she spent her free time reading many historical records. Among them, she found one that explained the origin of the Ghost Domain.
More than two thousand years ago, this land was nothing but a vast desert.
At that time, there was a powerful kingdom known as Ji. It had conquered nearly all of the human world. The kingdom’s greatest hero was its general, Lan Ping.
Lan Ping was a fearless and skilled warrior who led countless successful campaigns. His military achievements were unmatched.
However, a group of ministers accused him of plotting treason. Although there was no evidence, the suspicious Ji King still ordered Lan Ping and one thousand of his loyal soldiers to take one half of the Twin Mirror and travel deep into the desert.
The Twin Mirror had two sides. No matter how far apart, the mirror allowed both sides to see each other. They were instructed to find the Mirror Tree and use the mirror to prove that Lan Ping had no intention of rebelling. If he succeeded, his name would be cleared.
But the desert was dangerous, filled with deadly sandstorms. Almost no one who entered ever came back. It was a death sentence in disguise.
Even so, Lan Ping obeyed the order. Not long after entering the desert, he and his men were caught in a terrible storm. All of them died.
Their souls were trapped in that place, and the heavy resentment they carried stirred the heavens. For three months, rain poured down without end. Eventually, the desert turned into a dense forest filled with ghostly energy.
Zhu Changxuan had read about Lan Ping. He hated corruption and never hesitated to criticize dishonest ministers, even in front of the king.
She did not believe Lan Ping would ever rebel. In fact, she deeply respected him.
He was a man who upheld strict military discipline, treated prisoners with kindness, and gave his life for his country. Even when he knew he was being sent to his death, he went willingly, just to prove his loyalty.
Lan Ping looked at Zhu Changxuan. In all his life and death, he had never seen someone with such a noble and calm presence.
Her clear eyes held no unnecessary emotion. For some reason, he could not bring himself to harm her.
“You may leave,” he said. “Head southwest and follow the sunward grass. You will find your way out.”
Zhu Changxuan replied,
“Thank you for your kindness, General. But perhaps our meeting is no coincidence. I would like to make a deal with you.”
Lan Ping’s blue eyes flickered.
“Speak.”
Zhu Changxuan looked directly into his gaze.
“First, may I ask if you wish for yourself and your soldiers to be reincarnated?”
Lan Ping’s voice grew loud and cold.
“Are you mocking us? If reincarnation were possible, would we have remained trapped here for two thousand years?”
Zhu Changxuan did not react to his anger. She calmly began to explain how she could help them return to the cycle of life.
Lan Ping listened in silence.
The skeletal soldiers looked at one another in disbelief, unsure of what to think.
After a long pause, Lan Ping finally asked,
“Based on what you said, are you really willing to do this?”
Zhu Changxuan nodded.
“I am. I believe you were never a traitor. You should not be bound here. But before I help you and your soldiers reincarnate, I will need your help.”
Lan Ping was moved when he heard her say that she trusted him.
He let out a quiet laugh filled with bitterness.
“You trust us? Then tell me what you want from us.”
Zhu Changxuan explained,
“A cultivator is using forbidden techniques to raise the dead and create an army of zombies. He may have already completed many. Ordinary cultivators cannot fight them. If a zombie king appears, the entire cultivation world will suffer greatly.
You and your soldiers are already dead. You cannot be infected by zombie poison. You would be the perfect force to fight them. If you help destroy that cultivator and his creations, I will help you all reincarnate.”
Lan Ping looked at her with quiet admiration.
“I did not expect you to care so much for the world.”
Zhu Changxuan shook her head slightly.
“I am not that noble. I only want to do what I can to protect the people who care about me and help them live better lives.”
Lan Ping’s thoughts drifted back to his younger years. He remembered the Ji King placing an arm around his shoulder and saying,
“Ah Ping, help me conquer the world so my people can live in peace.”
He had given everything to serve that king, only to be exiled because of suspicion.
Now, standing before him was a stranger and this stranger said she believed in him.
Lan Ping stared blankly at Zhu Changxuan. He wondered, if someone like her had been their ruler, would things have turned out differently?
He turned to glance at the thousand skeletal soldiers behind him.
“Why should I believe you will help us? We’ve been trapped here for so long. How do you plan to take us out and fight those zombies? And why would you be willing to pay such a price?”
Zhu Changxuan raised one hand and opened her palm. A glowing blue orb appeared in her hand.
It was a storage pearl given to her by Tong Shifeng. He had said this was the highest-capacity storage item in the cultivation world, capable of storing anything.
“This storage pearl can contain all of you.”
She then conjured a contract scroll and used her spiritual blood to seal it.
Sending the contract over, she said,
“General, this is my life-and-death agreement.”
Lan Ping caught it and looked at the scroll in surprise. It was real. She had actually given him her life-and-death contract.
Holding a contract written with a cultivator’s own blood would give the bearer complete control over their life.
Lan Ping dismounted from his skeletal horse and handed the contract back to her.
Zhu Changxuan accepted it in confusion.
“General, what does this mean?”
Lan Ping let out a loud laugh. His jawbone clacked as he spoke.
“I believe you. I don’t need a life-and-death contract. But you must defeat me in a duel before I agree to your deal.”
Zhu Changxuan didn’t hesitate.
She drew her sword, Mo Ting, and said,
“Please.”
The battle began immediately. Zhu Changxuan’s attacks had almost no effect on Lan Ping.
Her sword energy could barely scratch him.
Lan Ping’s spear strikes, on the other hand, were powerful and sharp. Though Zhu Changxuan narrowly dodged most of them, Lan Ping eventually found an opening and knocked her back with a single blow.
She dropped to one knee and coughed up dark red blood.
The fight had caused the poison in her body to flare up again. She clutched her chest in pain, trying to suppress it.
Lan Ping said firmly,
“You’re poisoned. There’s no way you can beat me. Leave now.”
Zhu Changxuan gritted her teeth and stood back up.
“Again.”
Lan Ping asked,
“Why won’t you give up?”
Zhu Changxuan’s expression grew serious as she replied,
“General, you want me to win. How can I afford to lose?”
Lan Ping, being a skeleton, had no visible expression. But as he looked at her face—one he had no words to describe because his knowledge was too limited—he knew it was the most beautiful he had ever seen. And now, that face was saying something so boldly emotional to him.
Lan Ping immediately became flustered.
“You… You alpha, how can you say something so sentimental to me? Say that kind of thing to your partner, not to me.”
Zhu Changxuan was stunned.
“Wait, what?”
“Also, you’re still wearing your wedding robe. It’s your wedding day, and you’re out here running around.”
“I…” Zhu Changxuan was caught off guard by the sudden change in topic. She didn’t know how to respond.
Lan Ping waved a hand.
“Alright, no need to keep fighting. I agree to your deal. Hurry up and take us out. Someone as stunning as you shouldn’t stay here long. Do you want to break your partner’s heart?”
In his mind, Lan Ping thought to himself that maybe he would change his mind later and not let her go through with the reincarnation ritual after all.
“Alright,” Zhu Changxuan replied. She opened her mouth to explain, but in the end, she said nothing. It was enough that he agreed.
She used the storage pearl to collect the entire skeleton army. Once it was done, the world around her darkened, and she nearly collapsed.
Barely holding herself together, she walked in the direction Lan Ping had pointed.
She no longer had the strength to fly by sword. The poison in her body was becoming harder to suppress with every step.
Suddenly, a clear, urgent voice echoed from the sky above.
“Changxuan!”
