Transmigrated Into The Boss's Marriage Partner - Chapter 8
Wang Ce was so provoked by Su Youqi’s tone that he gave a start.
However, as someone who had grown up learning core socialist values, Wang Ce did not believe in ghosts and deities. He scoffed, “Su Youqi, if you are going to lie, at least come up with a plausible excuse. Ghosts? Where in the world are there any ghosts?”
Too lazy to argue with him, Su Youqi snapped his fingers to let the facts speak for themselves. “Take a look at your legs.”
With a head full of question marks, Wang Ce still reflexively looked down at his feet.
Upon looking, Wang Ce was frightened out of his wits.
He saw that both of his legs were tightly wrapped in layers of black fog. Meeting Wang Ce’s gaze, the black fog crawled upward menacingly, just like grapevine tendrils, while his legs served as the stakes for the vines to climb.
This phenomenon of black fog clearly exceeded Wang Ce’s understanding.
Wang Ce’s twenty-odd years of scientific, materialistic worldview shattered right then and there in sheer terror.
“Ahhhhh! They really exist! Mmm mmm!” Terrified into screaming, Wang Ce had his mouth promptly covered by Su Youqi.
After Wang Ce calmed down a bit, Su Youqi let go of him, pulled a tissue out of his pocket with an expression of disgust to wipe his hands, and scolded, “What a big man, how can you be such a coward!”
Frightened motionless by the black fog on his legs and having lost all his previous arrogance, Wang Ce stammered a plea to Su Youqi: “Su Youqi, please save me!”
Su Youqi snapped his fingers once more. When Wang Ce looked down again, the black fog on his legs was gone.
“Is it fixed just like that?” Wang Ce asked skeptically, wondering if exorcisms in TV shows shouldn’t take a while.
Sure enough, he only heard Su Youqi say, “Of course not. I just closed your spiritual vision so you can’t see it anymore.”
The cultivation level of this black fog wasn’t particularly high; Su Youqi could have immediately banished it from Wang Ce’s body with a wave of his hand, but he chose not to.
However, Su Youqi secretly slapped a protective talisman onto Wang Ce so the black fog couldn’t harm him. He simply didn’t tell Wang Ce, leaving him to worry and panic for a few days as punishment.
Wang Ce: TAT
“Su Youqi, it was my fault before. You are a magnanimous person who doesn’t hold grudges, so please don’t bicker with me. I promise I will never bother you again!” The trick Su Youqi had just pulled off instantly elevated his image in Wang Ce’s mind, turning him into a literal lifeline. “No! As long as you save me this time, I’ll be your lackey! I’ll do whatever you ask!”
“I have no use for a lackey who is both untrustworthy and stammers,” Su Youqi said disdainfully.
Wang Ce shed another stream of tears.
This black fog had clearly mutated and was no longer the petty kind that merely brought a temporary streak of bad luck. Su Youqi felt a vague, gossamer connection between this black fog and himself, so he decided to observe the situation a bit longer before making a move.
Su Youqi instructed, “Alright, first take me to see Huang Jie. The black fog on you is just a mark left behind by that ghost; the real ghost should be with Huang Jie right now.”
“Okay!” Hearing that Su Youqi was willing to handle it, Wang Ce was overjoyed. Disregarding the black fog on his legs entirely, he led Su Youqi forward at a brisk pace.
Though upon closer inspection, his legs were still shaking slightly.
Huang Jie was still in the ICU, so the two of them couldn’t enter the ward and could only peek from outside.
Just as Su Youqi had anticipated, the ghost was currently possessing Huang Jie.
The doctors were baffled because Huang Jie’s heartbeat remained extremely weak, yet they couldn’t pinpoint the cause. Judging solely by Huang Jie’s external injuries, it shouldn’t have been enough to produce such severe consequences.
Huang Jie’s parents had flown into a rage at the doctors more than once, believing their medical skills were incompetent.
Only Su Youqi could see that the reason Huang Jie’s heartbeat remained so feeble was because a ghost was currently pinching his heart and playing with it.
That ghost radiated a heavy aura of hostility, yet appeared fiercely conflicted. Judging by his ferocious expression, he wanted nothing more than to crush Huang Jie’s heart completely and end his life once and for all, but his hands trembled slightly as if he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
It was a striking contradiction.
Su Youqi figured this was probably why Huang Jie had miraculously been cushioned by the trees when he fell from the building.
It was also why the black fog on Wang Ce had stayed confined to his legs without spreading upward, leaving him running around lively to this day.
As if sensing Su Youqi’s gaze, the ghost turned his head and locked eyes with Su Youqi.
Strangely enough, Su Youqi didn’t see a shred of malice in the ghost’s eyes.
Logically speaking, a malevolent ghost capable of pushing someone off a building shouldn’t look like this.
Upon closer inspection, there even seemed to be a hint of pity directed at him in the ghost’s eyes?
Little friend Su Youqi had a head full of question marks.
Su Youqi formed a soul-summoning incantation with his hand, forcing the ghost to tear away from Huang Jie’s body and fly uncontrollably toward him. Su Youqi grabbed the ghost and turned to leave.
Wang Ce, clueless about what had just happened, hurriedly grabbed Su Youqi’s sleeve: “Su Youqi, why are we leaving just like that?”
In Wang Ce’s eyes, Su Youqi had merely stood at the doorway for a look.
“If you don’t want to leave, you can stay here,” Su Youqi said, showing zero patience for someone like Wang Ce.
“No! I’d rather stick with you!” Wang Ce felt that staying close to Su Youqi was the safest option right now.
Coincidentally, Su Youqi had questions for him, so he allowed Wang Ce to tag along.
Finding a secluded and deserted spot, Su Youqi asked Wang Ce, “Did you guys bully anyone else recently?”
The aura of this ghost matched the one he had seen on Huang Jie that day, confirming it was the same entity. There was no other ghostly aura on Huang Jie, and when they last saw Huang Jie, this ghost’s presence had been completely calm without a shred of today’s hostility. Therefore, the only logical possibility was that Huang Jie had done something else to infuriate this ghost.
“No, we didn’t! After that incident, we all received stern warnings from the counselor, so how would we dare bully anyone else?” Wang Ce grievance-strickenly defended himself. “Huang Jie doesn’t care because his family has power, but we’re different. Coming from ordinary backgrounds, none of us would dare commit crimes in broad daylight at a time like this.”
Su Youqi pressed further: “Then did Huang Jie go bully someone else on his own?” Su Youqi emphasized, “Think carefully; this is very important.”
Treating Su Youqi’s words like an imperial decree, Wang Ce held nothing back and answered every question honestly. After racking his brain for a good moment, he stated with certainty: “No, he suffered such a huge loss because of you that his attention has been completely focused on you lately. He hasn’t had the time to go trouble anyone else!”
“That shouldn’t be the case.” Su Youqi frowned. Perhaps the only place he could find answers was from this ghost itself. “Alright, I see. You can go now.”
Su Youqi intended to have a private conversation with the ghost.
“Brother Su, what about me…” Wang Ce didn’t dare leave, pointing instead at his own legs.
Su Youqi reassured him, “Don’t worry, as long as you don’t do bad things, you’ll be fine.”
Wang Ce remained somewhat jittery, but seeing that Su Youqi had no intention of entertaining him further, he didn’t dare say another word.
He figured he might as well ask for leave tomorrow and visit a Buddhist temple to see if it would help.
“Oh, right!” Halfway through leaving, Wang Ce suddenly remembered something and ran back. “Brother Su, Huang Jie contacted his uncle a couple of days ago wanting to fix you, claiming his uncle mixes in society and is very powerful. Huang Jie even went out to dinner with his uncle the night before yesterday, and yesterday after returning, he fell from the building. I wonder if there’s any connection.”
Su Youqi asked, “Do you know what his uncle’s name is?”
Wang Ce racked his brain hard before replying, “It seems to be Huang something-zhi.”
Su Youqi: “…”
Noticing the look of disgust on Su Youqi’s face, Wang Ce struggled to explain, “Because I didn’t go with Huang Jie, I didn’t pay close attention when he talked about it…”
Su Youqi shrugged, “Fine.”
Still, it was better than having no information at all.
Su Youqi didn’t care too much either way since the ghost was right here; asking it directly would yield the same result.
Yet, two minutes later, Su Youqi’s face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot.
Damn it, that ghost had actually been snatched away by someone else!
Ever since Su Youqi made a name for himself, he had never let anyone snatch a ghost right out of his hands.
He had only himself to blame for letting his guard down.
He hadn’t expected someone to lurk in the shadows and snatch the ghost from under his nose, so he hadn’t made any preparations before summoning it right out in the open. Just as he was about to question it, the ghost vanished.
Infuriating!
Su Youqi tried to snatch the ghost back, but the entity seemed trapped by some kind of magical artifact, making it impossible to retrieve.
This depressed Su Youqi quite a bit. If his magical artifacts from his past life were still around, who could possibly stop him from snatching a ghost!
Poverty truly was the root of all evil.
Because Su Youqi had summoned the ghost away from Huang Jie, when Su Youqi returned to school, he heard the news that Huang Jie had finally been moved out of the ICU.
Hearing this news, Wang Ce practically worshipped Su Youqi like a deity.
While the incident involving Huang Jie was temporarily put on hold, progress finally came for Su Youqi’s arranged marriage.
In the afternoon, Su Weiguang personally called Su Youqi, telling him to return to the Su residence because members of the Nan family had arrived.
Perhaps constrained by the presence of the Nan family, Su Weiguang unusually dispatched a car to pick Su Youqi up this time.
“Young Master.”
Upon arriving at the Su residence, the other servants also acted extremely polite toward Su Youqi, completely different from how they used to treat him like invisible air.
Stepping into the living room, Su Youqi unsurprisingly spotted members of the Nan family.
He knew it. If it weren’t for putting on a show, this entire Su family would never act like this.
“Youyou is back, come right over.” Putting on an act as if he doted on this nephew dearly, Su Weiguang enthusiastically gestured for Su Youqi to come to his side.
Since the money hadn’t been secured yet, it was unwise to tear off the facade just yet. Su Youqi was quite willing to play along and give Su Weiguang this bit of face, walking over obediently.
With a satisfied expression, Su Youqi introduced them one by one: “This is the head of the Nan family, and this is the Madam of the house. Youyou, hurry up and greet your uncle and aunt.”
Su Youqi put on a very well-behaved front, bowing slightly as he said, “Hello, Uncle. Hello, Aunt.” It seemed the Nan family truly valued this ghost marriage since both the head of the family and his wife had come in person.
Not seeing any trace of resentment toward the ghost marriage on Su Youqi’s face greatly pleased the Nan couple, causing their favorable impression of him to shoot right up.
Originally, they had mentally prepared themselves for Su Youqi to object, seeing as the eldest daughter of the Su family had swapped Su Youqi in precisely because she refused.
