Transmigrated Into The Boss's Marriage Partner - Chapter 9
Since Su Youqi’s attitude was pleasant, the head of the Nan family and his wife were naturally very warm toward him.
The Madam of the Nan family, who was also the mother of his ghost marriage partner, Qin Shuya, pulled Su Youqi to sit right beside her and asked him numerous detailed questions.
At first, it was just standard questions like where he was studying and what year he was in. However, the more they talked, the more Su Youqi felt something was off.
Asking about his dietary habits and daily hobbies could still pass as polite small talk, but what on earth did asking about his preferred living environment and interior design style mean?
Sensing Su Youqi’s confusion, Qin Shuya smiled faintly and explained, “Here is the situation. The Nan family is a relatively traditional household. Although your marriage with Keke is a ghost marriage, the elders in the family still hope that you can move into the Nan family’s old residence to live for a period of time after the wedding.”
Knowing that her request might sound a bit inappropriate and fearing it would evoke Su Youqi’s aversion, Qin Shuya quickly added, “Don’t worry, we certainly don’t mean to restrict your freedom. At most, we ask you to follow tradition and stay for three months. After three months, whether you want to continue living with the Nan family or move somewhere else, we will fully respect your wishes.”
Before Su Youqi could even think it through, Su Weiguang chimed in eagerly, “Of course that is fine! Showing filial piety to elders is only right and proper. Staying for a bit longer to accompany the elders is also completely fine.”
Countless people would kill for a chance to enter the Nan family’s old residence. If Su Youqi could move in, then as his family members, wouldn’t they be able to frequently visit the Nan family under the guise of checking up on him?
As long as they caught the eye of even a single influential figure residing in the Nan family estate, their Su family’s development could take another massive leap forward.
Qin Shuya clearly possessed great poise, however, and didn’t finalize the matter just because Su Weiguang agreed. Instead, she continued waiting for Su Youqi’s response.
The head of the Nan family, Nan Xingxian, remained silent as well, clearly giving tacit approval to his wife’s approach.
Being ignored left Su Weiguang feeling rather awkward, but he didn’t dare cross Qin Shuya. He just kept throwing frantic winks at Su Youqi, urging him to agree.
Meanwhile, Su Xiangqiu and Lin Fen were secretly anxious in their hearts. Naturally, they also hoped Su Youqi would agree to move into the Nan family estate. Although they hadn’t expected such an unexpected windfall, it was undoubtedly a colossal blessing. If they could pay a few visits to the Nan family estate, both Su Xiangqiu and Lin Fen would be looked upon with much higher regard in the upper-class social circles.
Furthermore, while that big shot allied with the Su family had unfortunately passed away, the Nan family still had other eligible bachelors! If Su Xiangqiu could use Su Youqi’s connection to get to know a few of them, she might even be able to marry into the Nan family!
Just like that, Su Xiangqiu suddenly felt that the Shang family’s eldest young master, whom she was on the verge of hooking, didn’t seem all that appealing anymore.
How could someone as astute as Su Youqi fail to see what the three members of the Su family were thinking?
A rather inappropriate yet fitting internet catchphrase suddenly popped into his mind: Simp, simp to the end, and you’ll end up with nothing in the end.
Your own daughter rejected the ghost marriage and slapped the Nan family right in the face, yet you still harbor delusions of marrying another Nan family bachelor and scheming for benefits from their hands. With skin that thick, why don’t you go open a pancake stall?
The fact that the Nan family hadn’t torn off their polite masks and cleaned house was purely out of consideration for Su Youqi, who had been pushed out as a scapegoat.
Having taken in everyone’s true attitudes, Su Youqi quickly formulated a plan.
He put on a troubled expression and spoke up: “Well, changing places to live is fine, but I happen to be quite particular about my bed and belongings. I’m used to using my own things…”
Su Weiguang chimed in immediately, “Youyou, you don’t need to worry about that. Uncle will have people send everything you like straight to the Nan family estate!”
How could Su Weiguang and the others not understand what Su Youqi meant? Given Su Youqi’s status in this household, he didn’t own anything special; everything he used was their cast-off junk, some of which was even worse than the household servants’ items. He was simply trying to squeeze a few more favors out of them.
The three of them once again felt a surge of contempt for Su Youqi, believing he was picking up sesame seeds while losing the watermelon. If he could move into the Nan family estate, how could a few petty items compare? As long as he managed to please any Nan family elder, whatever slipped through their fingers would be far more than he could ever take from the Su family!
Yet they completely misunderstood Su Youqi’s intentions. What Su Youqi wanted wasn’t just money, but rather the wealth in their hands that rightfully belonged to the original body.
“Since Uncle says so, then I agree.” Pointing at an antique ceramic vase from the Tianqi period in the living room—which Su Weiguang had bought back at a high price—Su Youqi said with a hint of shyness, “Uncle, I’ve always loved this vase. Every time I come home, I like to look at it, but Uncle seems to love it just as much…”
Aside from being expensive, the vase was genuinely Su Weiguang’s pride and joy, which was why Su Youqi picked it.
Yet no matter how precious it was, it couldn’t compare to the temptation of the Nan family estate. Swallowing his heartache, Su Weiguang put on a generous facade and said, “It’s just a vase. Take it along to play with!”
Opportunities like this were rare, and since he had the chance to pick things out personally, Su Youqi had no intention of letting Su Weiguang off so easily. He named several more items that Su Weiguang, Su Xiangqiu, and Lin Fen cherished dearly, successfully claiming them all under the backing of the Nan family’s influence.
Enduring the murderous glares of Su Weiguang, Su Xiangqiu, and Lin Fen—expressions that were terrifyingly distorted because they had to force friendly smiles while holding back their rage—Su Youqi felt thoroughly satisfied.
Wonderful. He had successfully provoked all three of them, leaving none out. Perfect!
While the four members of the Su family were caught in an internal civil war, Nan Xingxian and Qin Shuya exchanged a glance, realizing that their previous background check might have missed a few details.
Old foxes like them could spot Su Youqi’s true motives at a single glance.
This Su Youqi didn’t look like a pushover at all; instead, he was more like a leopard, ruthlessly seizing the chance to take a massive bite out of the Su family.
Yet a Su Youqi like this appealed to the couple even more.
At that moment, the Nan couple genuinely felt that having Su Youqi undergo the ghost marriage with their son was a much better outcome—far superior to Su Xiangqiu, whose superficial vanity was practically palpable.
Qin Shuya’s playful streak flared up. A flash of sly amusement crossed her eyes as she took Su Youqi’s hand and said, “So Youqi likes these things. The Nan family is involved in the jade and antique businesses, and our old residence has quite a collection of treasures as well. When the time comes, I’ll take you to pick some out.”
He hadn’t even stepped through the doors of the Nan family yet, and he was already receiving favors from the matriarch. The members of the Su family—especially Su Xiangqiu—turned green with envy.
After all, had the marriage alliance not been swapped, the person promised a trip through the Nan family collection by Qin Shuya would have been Su Xiangqiu.
Qin Shuya paid subtle attention to Su Xiangqiu, feeling immensely satisfied when she caught the jealousy, resentment, and trace of regret in the girl’s eyes.
Serves you right! That’ll teach you to look down on my son!
If Su Xiangqiu had simply called off the engagement properly, the Nan family wouldn’t have held it against her. After all, it was normal for a young woman to be unwilling to enter a ghost marriage, and the Nan family didn’t engage in the despicable practice of forcing people.
However, Su Xiangqiu shouldn’t have tried to cling to the Nan family’s power and wealth while refusing to let go of the engagement, all the while running around flirting under the guise of being her son’s fiancee and cuckolding him!
Still, she had to thank Su Xiangqiu for her brilliant maneuvers, or else they would never have crossed paths with Su Youqi.
To spite the Su family, Qin Shuya’s attitude toward Su Youqi grew increasingly warm.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Su Youqi caught onto Qin Shuya’s hint immediately, chiming in seamlessly and irritating Su Xiangqiu to the point where she almost lashed out on the spot.
However, Qin Shuya had no intention of keeping Su Xiangqiu as a daughter-in-law anyway, so she cut straight to the chase and finalized the wedding date for the ghost marriage with Su Weiguang.
To show sincerity, the Nan family had even brought betrothal gifts with them this time.
Qin Shuya likely understood Su Youqi’s intentions, going over the betrothal gift list right in front of him. Her original intention was to let Su Youqi take a quick look so he could pick a couple of items to pry out of Su Weiguang’s hands later.
What she didn’t realize, however, was that Su Youqi had already claimed all of the Nan family’s betrothal gifts, and this action of hers inadvertently helped Su Youqi fundamentally prevent Su Weiguang from secretly pocketing them.
What an absolute mother-in-law goal!
Su Youqi’s gaze toward Qin Shuya grew increasingly fond.
By a stroke of pure luck, despite this being a marriage without a groom, the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law was exceptionally harmonious even before the wedding.
The only pity was that, worried Su Youqi might back out after getting the money, Su Weiguang refused to hand over the Nan family’s betrothal gifts on the spot, insisting on waiting until the official day of the ghost marriage.
Fortunately, the wedding date chosen by the Nan family was very soon—this coming Monday.
Su Youqi checked the date himself and confirmed it was an auspicious day.
Although it was a ghost marriage, the Nan family took it very seriously and insisted on going through the entire standard formal procedure. While specialists handled most of the heavy lifting, simply trying on wedding attire and fittings was enough to keep Su Youqi plenty busy.
Back in Dormitory 308, Guan Hongyu caught an exhausted Su Youqi and teased, “Third Brother, what have you been up to lately? You’ve been busy running around early and late. Your scenes with the crew are mostly wrapped up, and classes haven’t been heavy either. What could possibly keep you this busy? Come on, spill it. Are you seeing someone?”
“Only kids fall in love!” Su Youqi rolled his eyes and retorted, “Adults like us are getting married.”
“Pfft… Cough, cough…” Zhu Wenyu choked, spraying out a mouthful of the water he had just drank into a fit of hacking coughs. Fortunately, he didn’t spray it in anyone’s direction, otherwise it would have been a disaster.
Zhu Wenyu hadn’t expected someone as proper and upright-looking as Su Youqi to crack such a joke.
Chang Xingye patted Zhu Wenyu on the back to help him catch his breath while carefully observing Su Youqi. Calmly, he stated, “Remember to send us an invitation.”
Su Youqi flashed an OK hand gesture.
“What the heck, you guys are too much! Keep going and you’ll be talking about having a precious son soon! Oh wait, I forgot, Third Brother is a guy, he can’t give birth!” Guan Hongyu burst out laughing, wrapping an arm around Su Youqi’s neck with an evil grin. “Seriously though, look at how worn out you look. You really look like you’ve been overindulging in…”
Having finally recovered, Zhu Wenyu tactfully reminded them, “I remember Youyou doesn’t have a boyfriend, right?”
Chang Xingye delivered the finishing blow: “That’s right, he doesn’t.”
He didn’t have a boyfriend, true, but he did have a fiance. Even if said fiance had already kicked the bucket.
Su Youqi remained noncommittal, tilting his head with an innocent expression. He couldn’t be blamed for this; he had spoken the absolute truth, it was just that nobody believed him.
