Transmigrated Into The Body Of A Wealthy CEO's Fiancé For A Marriage Of Convenience - Chapter 7
Shen Yifeng heard the familiar voice and remained silent for a moment. A flicker of annoyance flashed through his eyes, so quickly that even he did not notice it. Looking at his subordinates who were still waiting for his report on the screen, he ultimately did not stop the meeting. He said expressionlessly, “Continue.”
Xu Gu finally waited for the elevator to return. When he saw Jiang Wu standing helplessly in front of his boss’s door, he thought, The worst has happened.
He stepped forward and said softly with an apologetic look, “I am sorry. I forgot to tell you that the boss is in a meeting and does not like to be disturbed.” After a pause, he added, “The boss is not targeting you; he just dislikes being interrupted while working.”
Hearing Xu Gu’s explanation, Jiang Wu’s dejected and aggrieved feelings dissipated quite a bit. So, he was not doing it on purpose.
Feeling much better, he hung a smile back on his face. He lifted the grapes in his hand. “Xu Gu, would you like some grapes? They are very sweet; I just bought them at the supermarket, and they are very fresh.”
Seeing Jiang Wu’s mood recover, Xu Gu breathed a sigh of relief. He smiled. “Thank you, Young Master Jiang, but I have things to attend to right now. Please forgive my inability to accept your kindness.” He still had someone to pick up.
Jiang Wu did not insist. “Okay, then I will eat them myself.” After saying this, he waved his hand. “You go ahead and get busy.” He knew that secretaries were usually very busy; his father’s secretary in his previous life had been the same.
As soon as he finished speaking, Xu Gu’s phone rang. He answered the call and walked out. Jiang Wu took the grapes over to the sofa, turned on the TV, and enjoyed them at a leisurely pace. As the grapes burst in his mouth, the sweet juice filled his palate. So delicious, Jiang Wu thought, squinting his eyes in satisfaction.
Elsewhere.
After Shen Yifeng finished his meeting, he intended to deal with some documents. But for some reason, the youth’s voice, which had carried a hint of a tremor just moments ago, kept echoing in his ears. He clicked his tongue, took out his phone, and expressionlessly searched: What should I do if I accidentally scared a child?
The internet speed was fast, and the page loaded quickly. It read: If a child aged 0 to 6 is scared, there are several methods.
Shen Yifeng’s face stiffened. He calmly closed the page. He got up, took the crutch from the side, and walked out.
As soon as he stepped out, he saw the youth with his back to him, his shoulders trembling. Was he scared to the point of crying? Recalling his tone from earlier, it did not seem impossible. Shen Yifeng frowned and walked over with his crutch.
“Jiang Wu, you.”
The youth turned around, his eyes filled with lingering amusement, curved like two crescent moons. Shen Yifeng’s remaining words got stuck in his throat. Suddenly, laughter erupted from the TV; only then did he notice that Jiang Wu was watching a variety show.
Jiang Wu had been watching the show when he heard his name. He turned around and saw Shen Yifeng. Although the man was leaning on a crutch, he did not look disheveled. The hospital gown could not hide his overwhelming presence. Even though he was not standing straight, it did not affect his elegant, noble aura. Jiang Wu faded his smile, stood up, and looked at Shen Yifeng with confusion.
“About what happened earlier.”
Hearing Shen Yifeng bring up the previous incident, Jiang Wu thought he was here to settle scores. He quickly interrupted, explaining anxiously, “I am sorry! I did not know you were in a meeting, and Xu Gu did not tell me. I just wanted to ask if you wanted to eat some grapes.” As he spoke, he pointed to the half-eaten grapes on the coffee table as proof. Then he lowered his head, not daring to look at Shen Yifeng.
I apologized, Jiang Wu thought. He should not yell at me anymore, right?
“I am sorry. It was my fault earlier.”
Hearing this, Jiang Wu looked up in surprise. His eyes were round, as if he had heard something unbelievable. Seeing the youth’s adorable reaction, Shen Yifeng could not help but find it amusing. He repeated, “My tone scared you earlier. I apologize.”
Jiang Wu lay on the sofa, his eyes drifting toward Shen Yifeng’s direction from time to time. Thinking of Shen Yifeng’s apology, the corners of his mouth could not help but curve upward. Actually, Shen Yifeng is quite good.
He yawned, feeling sleepy. Checking the time, he realized it was his usual afternoon nap. He got up, washed his hands, pulled the little dark blue blanket from yesterday over himself, and prepared to sleep.
Just as he closed his eyes, he heard several people talking outside. The next second, there was a knock at the door. Jiang Wu had no choice but to get up, put on his slippers, and open the door.
The moment it opened, the room went silent. Two people Jiang Wu had never seen before stood at the door, holding fruit baskets. They must be Shen Yifeng’s friends coming to visit, Jiang Wu thought.
The two at the door looked surprised to see Jiang Wu. They exchanged glances, and one of them stepped out to check the room number, seemingly confirming they were in the right place. After checking, he shook his head at the other, indicating they were correct.
“Hello, is this Shen Yifeng’s ward?” one of the men asked with a gentle smile.
Jiang Wu nodded. “You are.”
“We are his friends, here to see him!” the other man answered before Jiang Wu could finish.
As Jiang Wu had guessed, he stepped aside to let them in. The man who had asked the question smiled politely at him and walked in, but the other one did not. He stared at Jiang Wu with interest, scanning him, and then offered a brilliant smile.
“Hello, little beauty. My name is He Chen. He as in congratulations, and Chen as in the gemstone. What is your name?”
Jiang Wu answered subconsciously, “My name is Jiang Wu. Jiang as in the river, and Wu as in the paulownia tree.”
“Jiang Wu?” He Chen repeated, smiling. “As expected, beautiful people always have beautiful names.”
Jiang Wu felt this person was overly enthusiastic and was not used to it. “Are you not here to see Shen Yifeng?” he asked, the subtext being: Why are you still standing here?
Hearing Jiang Wu address Shen Yifeng by his full name, He Chen gave him a meaningful look. He was very curious about the relationship between this little beauty and Shen Yifeng. “No rush, he isn’t going anywhere.” He Chen pretended not to understand the hint.
He leaned closer to Jiang Wu, eyes twinkling with gossip. “Little beauty, you and Shen Yifeng.”
Jiang Wu took a small step back to avoid He Chen leaning in; he did not like being too close to strangers. The scent of He Chen’s heavy perfume was something Jiang Wu disliked. He frowned, wanting to say something, but before he could speak, he heard Shen Yifeng’s voice.
“He Chen.”
His tone was cold.
He Chen stiffened and stood up straight, looking toward the source of the voice. Shen Yifeng was leaning against the doorframe, expressionless, looking at He Chen. Beside him stood the other man who had come with him, Shen Lin, who had a look of amusement on his face.
He Chen laughed awkwardly. “Looks like you are doing much better, Brother Shen, ha ha ha ha.”
Shen Yifeng just glanced at him and tossed out one word: “Enter.”
He turned and headed back to his room, supported by Shen Lin. He Chen stopped talking to Jiang Wu and walked into the room on his own.
Jiang Wu exhaled in relief. He looked at the tightly shut door and returned to the sofa.
