- Transmigrated Into The Body Of A Wealthy CEO's Fiancé For A Marriage Of Convenience
- Chapter 6 - Misunderstanding
Xu Gu received a call from his boss late at night and returned to the hospital. He knocked on the door, and the person who opened it was the same youth he had seen in the evening.
“Hello.” He offered the youth a friendly smile. “The boss called me.”
Jiang Wu nodded. He figured this handsome young man must be Shen Yifeng’s assistant, so he stepped aside to let him in. Xu Gu went straight into Shen Yifeng’s room. Jiang Wu closed the door and returned to the sofa to continue watching television. About half an hour later, the young man came out and walked toward him with a smile.
“Sorry for the trouble, but the boss asked me to take you back.”
“Back?” Jiang Wu asked, unsure. “Where to?”
Xu Gu’s smile stiffened, but he quickly recovered. “I am not sure. The boss did not say; he only asked me to take you back.”
Jiang Wu’s eyes instinctively drifted toward the patient’s room, and he nodded. “Oh, okay.” He got off the sofa, put on his shoes, and asked, “Is there a hotel nearby?”
“Yes, there is,” Xu Gu replied.
“Then take me to a hotel.” Jiang Wu did not want to return to the Jiang family house; he did not know how to get along with the original owner’s father. Furthermore, there was no guarantee his stepmother would welcome him back. Since the family home was too far away, staying at a nearby hotel was a better option.
As Jiang Wu reached the door, he paused. He wondered if he should say something to Shen Yifeng. Xu Gu, walking behind him, saw him stop and asked, “What is it? Did you forget something?”
Jiang Wu shook his head. “No.” Forget it, he thought, I should not disturb him.
Xu Gu took Jiang Wu to a nearby hotel, and after checking him in, he handed him a business card. “You can call this number tomorrow, and I will come to pick you up.”
Jiang Wu accepted the card. “Okay.”
“I will not keep you from your rest, then. See you tomorrow,” Xu Gu said with a smile.
Jiang Wu felt awkward hearing him use the formal you and said, “My name is Jiang Wu. Please do not call me that.”
Xu Gu froze for a second before immediately agreeing. “Very well, Jiang Wu. I will be on my way, then.”
Jiang Wu nodded and offered Xu Gu a smile. “Thank you, Xu Gu.” He waved his hand. “Bye-bye.”
When the youth smiled, his full, rosy lips curled slightly, and his eyes curved into crescents. He looked beautiful, well-behaved, and his voice was sweet and soft. Xu Gu felt his heart skip a beat. Goodness, that is too unfair. That is too cute. He smiled even more genuinely. “It is my duty.”
Just as he reached the elevator, the youth’s voice called out from behind him. He turned to see Jiang Wu running over, his face flushed with the pink glow of light exercise.
“What is it?” Xu Gu asked.
“Please tell Shen Yifeng thank you for me.”
Jiang Wu had thought about it; Xu Gu was Shen Yifeng’s assistant, and since it was Shen Yifeng who had asked Xu Gu to drive him to the hotel, it was only right to offer his thanks. Since he did not have Shen Yifeng’s contact information, he had to ask Xu Gu to pass on the message.
“Very well,” Xu Gu replied with a smile. The elevator arrived, and as Xu Gu stepped inside, he gave Jiang Wu a friendly smile. Jiang Wu waved back to say goodbye.
After Xu Gu returned to the hospital, he said, “Boss, I have dropped him off. Jiang Wu asked me to tell you thank you.”
Shen Yifeng was not yet asleep; the doctor had just finished his check-up and left. Upon hearing Xu Gu’s words, he gave a slight nod to indicate he had heard. Once Xu Gu felt his message was delivered, he exited the ward. He would have to make do on the sofa for the night. The newly hired caregiver would not arrive until tomorrow, but it did not matter; he was a lone man, and the salary his boss paid was quite generous.
In the room, Shen Yifeng closed his eyes, preparing to rest. He had a mountain of work waiting for him tomorrow. Just as he closed his eyes, Xu Gu’s words echoed in his mind. Thanking me? For some reason, the youth’s soft voice suddenly filled his thoughts.
The next morning, Jiang Wu woke up and had breakfast delivered by the hotel. While playing Plants vs. Zombies on his phone, he wondered if he should go to the hospital. Just then, his phone rang; it was an unfamiliar number. Jiang Wu sat up straight and answered. “Hello?”
“Little Jiang, this is Grandfather.” The voice on the other end was full of energy and carried a hint of affection.
“Grandfather,” Jiang Wu answered obediently.
“Hey!” Grandfather Shen responded happily. “Little Jiang, how are you getting along with Little Feng?”
Jiang Wu felt a bit guilty and mumbled, “Fine.”
Grandfather Shen laughed twice. “Have you eaten?”
“I have. Have you eaten, Grandfather?”
Hearing Jiang Wu’s concern, Shen Shufeng’s smile widened. “I have, I have.” He was becoming increasingly satisfied with this grandson-in-law.
“Little Jiang, may I ask a favor of you?”
Jiang Wu had a hunch it was not anything good. He picked at the bedsheet. “Please go ahead, Grandfather.” He simply did not know how to refuse requests, especially from an elder like Grandfather Shen.
Grandfather Shen said cheerfully, “I want to ask you to keep an eye on Little Feng and make sure he gets more rest. That man is just like a work machine.”
Hearing Grandfather Shen, Jiang Wu recalled how Shen Yifeng had started working the moment he woke up yesterday, and he nodded in agreement. But asking him to keep an eye on Shen Yifeng? That was just making things difficult for him. Thinking of Shen Yifeng’s face, Jiang Wu made a bitter expression, his voice full of reluctance. “It is not that I am unwilling, but he.”
Before he could finish, Grandfather Shen interrupted. “Grandfather believes in you. I have to go take my medicine now. Little Jiang, come visit me when you have time.”
Jiang Wu swallowed his refusal. “Goodbye, Grandfather.”
After hanging up, Jiang Wu ultimately got dressed and headed to the hospital. He did not call Xu Gu; the hotel was only a ten-minute walk away. After buying some fruit and snacks on the road, he headed to the hospital. As soon as he exited the elevator, he bumped into Xu Gu.
“Good afternoon, Jiang Wu.” Xu Gu greeted him with the same smile as yesterday.
Jiang Wu returned the smile. “Good afternoon.”
“Are you here to see the boss?” Xu Gu asked. Though it was a question, his tone was certain. Since he was Shen Yifeng’s personal assistant, Shen Yifeng had informed him of Jiang Wu’s identity that morning.
Jiang Wu nodded and entered the ward. Xu Gu stepped into the elevator, heading down to meet the new caregiver he had hired. Once he reached the first floor and exited, he suddenly remembered he had forgotten to tell Jiang Wu that the boss was in a meeting.
Oh no!
Xu Gu turned around, wanting to rush back, but the elevator had already ascended, and the others would take time to arrive.
On the other side, Jiang Wu placed the fruit and snacks on the table. He looked at Shen Yifeng’s room, hesitated for a moment, picked up a bunch of grapes, and headed to the kitchen. Although his relationship with Shen Yifeng was strictly professional, maintaining a good rapport was necessary, and Shen Yifeng had sent him to the hotel yesterday, after all.
After washing the grapes and arranging them on a plate, Jiang Wu knocked on Shen Yifeng’s door.
“Who is it?” Shen Yifeng’s voice was as cold as ice. “Did I not tell you? Do not disturb me.” His voice was not loud, but the anger within it was palpable. Shen Yifeng was currently in a video conference and had instructed Xu Gu not to let anyone disturb him. Hearing the knock, he could not help but feel angry, especially since the contents of this meeting were quite important.
Jiang Wu’s body stiffened. Oh no, he thought. Shen Yifeng does not sound happy.
But he had no choice but to push through it. “I am sorry, I did not mean to disturb you.”
