Transmigrated Into The Body Of A Wealthy CEO's Fiancé For A Marriage Of Convenience - Chapter 4
The youth was dressed in a simple white T-shirt and light blue jeans. He had a slender build, slightly curled black hair, moist wide eyes, a small upright nose, and tender pink lips. His palm-sized face was fair and translucent.
Shen Yifeng was stunned. His fiancé looked incredibly young, perhaps even underage. At that thought, he felt a sudden pang of regret for having softened his heart and agreed to Grandfather Shen’s request.
Jiang Wu walked slowly to the side of Shen Yifeng’s bed. Shen Shufeng was elderly and in poor health; having been tossed about all morning, he was starting to feel exhausted. He smiled cheerfully at Jiang Wu and Shen Yifeng.
“I am tired, so I will be heading back. I will leave little Jiang here to keep you company, and you two can take the time to cultivate some feelings for each other.”
With that, without waiting for a reply, he leaned on his cane and sauntered out of the ward. Once he left, the assistants who had been in the room followed him out, leaving Jiang Wu and Shen Yifeng to stare at each other in silence. The room became deathly quiet; Jiang Wu could even hear his own breathing.
Jiang Wu lowered his head, not daring to look at the man on the bed, mostly because he felt extremely awkward. Just as he was trying to find a topic to break the tension, the man spoke.
“How old are you?” Shen Yifeng asked out of the blue.
Jiang Wu looked up and answered obediently, “I have turned twenty. I will be twenty-one after October.”
“Mm.” Shen Yifeng nodded, his expression emotionless. The room fell silent again.
“If.”
“My grandfather.”
After a moment, Jiang Wu could no longer endure the eerie atmosphere and moved to excuse himself. But just as he started to speak, the man began to talk as well. Jiang Wu immediately shut his mouth. “You go first.”
Shen Yifeng did not defer to him and continued. “You do not need to take the matter between us to heart. My grandfather, he.” Here, his tone carried a hint of helplessness. “It might delay you for a period of time, but when the time comes, I will explain it to him. Of course, you will receive appropriate compensation then.”
After listening, Jiang Wu suddenly felt that this man was actually not bad at all.
“Of course, if you are unwilling, you may leave now, and I will tell my grandfather,” Shen Yifeng added.
After all that Shen Yifeng had said, Jiang Wu only caught the word compensation. Compensation? With the Shen family’s vast assets, this compensation had to be a significant amount of money. He only had to pretend to get along with him for a while to receive a generous payoff. Even though Jiang Wu did not understand business, he knew this was an opportunity falling from the sky.
Thinking of this, Jiang Wu immediately looked up, his gaze burning as he looked at Shen Yifeng. “I am willing.”
Shen Yifeng did not react beyond a simple nod. “I will have my lawyer draw up a contract later.”
Oh, Jiang Wu thought. As expected of a businessman; they need a contract for everything.
“If there is nothing else, I am going to rest.” Shen Yifeng issued a dismissal.
“Okay.”
Once out of the ward, Jiang Wu looked at the soft sofa in the living room and suddenly felt drowsy. He had one particular flaw: he was prone to oversleeping. Without a second thought, he went to the sofa, took off his shoes, found a comfortable position, and fell asleep.
When he woke up again, it was evening. The sunset spilled across the floor and reached his feet. He rubbed his hazy eyes, sat up, and crossed his legs on the sofa. Something fell off him onto the floor. He looked sideways and saw a small dark blue blanket. It seemed someone had covered him while he was sleeping.
He turned toward Shen Yifeng’s room, wondering if it could have been him. After staring blankly at the beautiful sunset outside for a while, he climbed down from the sofa and put on his shoes. He was hungry. As he prepared to go out and forage for food, he paused as he passed Shen Yifeng’s room. He tilted his head and thought if he should ask if he had eaten yet.
Just as he was hesitating, the door was pushed open from the inside. A man wearing glasses, dressed in a black suit, and holding a stack of files stepped out. The man seemed stunned to see him, but quickly walked past him, clutching the papers. Since the door was open, Jiang Wu eventually walked inside.
As soon as he entered, he heard the man’s voice. “Is there something else?”
Shen Yifeng was leaning against the bed. A stack of files sat on the nightstand, and he was holding another one in his hands. Jiang Wu could not help but admire him; he truly was a man capable of being a president at such a young age, starting to work as soon as he woke up.
Shen Yifeng initially assumed it was his assistant returning with something else. When he received no response, he looked up, annoyed. He saw Jiang Wu standing in the doorway. Shen Yifeng’s features were sharp; without a smile, he looked stern and unapproachable. At that moment, his brows were knitted in irritation, and he looked quite ferocious.
Jiang Wu was scared. He stammered, “I, I, I did not mean to disturb you. I just wanted to ask if you had eaten.” By the end, his voice grew smaller and smaller, and he bowed his head.
When Shen Yifeng heard the youth’s stuttering, he suddenly realized he had scared him. He reached out, grabbed the phone on the side, dialed his personal assistant’s number, and the call connected after two rings.
“Xu Gu, buy some food and send it over,” Shen Yifeng instructed the person on the other end coldly.
“Understood, Mr. Shen. What would you like to eat?” the voice on the phone replied immediately.
Shen Yifeng paused for a moment and said to the person on the phone, “One moment.” He then looked toward Jiang Wu. “What do you want to eat?”
Jiang Wu had not expected Shen Yifeng to ask him and was dazed for a moment. Seeing that Jiang Wu did not speak, Shen Yifeng said, “Come here.”
Jiang Wu walked over obediently. Once he was close, Shen Yifeng noticed that the youth’s eyes were slightly red, and paired with his large, moist eyes, he looked deeply wronged. His expression stiffened. After a moment of silence, he handed the phone to the youth, his tone no longer as cold as before.
“Tell the person on the phone what you want to eat; he will bring it over shortly.”
Jiang Wu snapped out of his daze, told the person on the phone what he wanted, and thanked him. Shen Yifeng took his phone back once Jiang Wu finished, lowering his head to continue reading his documents. Seeing this, Jiang Wu quietly walked out.
Once his figure completely disappeared, Shen Yifeng’s gaze shifted from the documents toward the doorway. The image of the youth’s slightly reddened eyes flickered in his mind. Shen Yifeng could not help but frown.
Tch. Such a coward.
Outside the room, Jiang Wu sniffled. He could not deny that he had truly been scared just now. In all the years he had lived, no one had ever spoken to him so fiercely. He suddenly regretted his decision.
