- Transmigrated Into The Body Of A Wealthy CEO's Fiancé For A Marriage Of Convenience
- Chapter 3 - I Do Not Agree
Jiang Wu sat on the edge of the bed with a complex expression, thinking about what Jiang Nanming had told him moments ago.
Shen Yifeng, thirty years old, was the president of the Shen Group. He had been in a car accident two months ago and had not yet woken up. Because he remained in a coma, the former head of the Shen family, who was Shen Yifeng’s grandfather, had found a spiritual master who claimed he needed a lucky omen wedding to improve his fortune. The master calculated Jiang Wu’s birth date and found it to be the perfect match. Thus, the Shen family had come knocking.
Jiang Wu felt depressed, though he understood. He came from a wealthy background himself and knew that the wealthier people were, the more superstitious they tended to be. But why did it have to be him? He felt exhausted just thinking about the fact that the Shen family was coming to take him to the hospital the next day. He really had no choice in the matter.
Actually, looking at it from another angle, it was not all bad. With the Shen family being so powerful, marrying into them meant he would not have to worry about the rest of his life. He did not have any great ambitions; his favorite thing to do was space out, mostly because he was not exactly a talented person.
That night, lying in bed, Jiang Wu thought about these troublesome events. Remembering his parents from his previous life, a wave of grievance rose in his heart. His nose prickled, and his eyes grew misty. He did not like it here at all. He did not want to marry a stranger. He wanted to go home, his real home. But he could not go back; he was already dead.
Tears flowed from Jiang Wu’s eyes like they were free. He lay on his pillow, sobbing intermittently. Jiang Wu was not a strong person. He was spoiled, prone to crying, and timid. His only redeeming quality was his good temper, though in the eyes of outsiders, that just looked like weakness.
The sun slowly rose, and a new day began. After washing up, Jiang Wu stayed in his room playing games. Before long, the housekeeper knocked to tell him to go down for breakfast. Because he had cried the night before, his eyes were swollen like two peaches, making him look both pitiful and cute.
Jiang Nanming was already gone, having left early for the company, and his two half-siblings had gone to school. The entire villa was empty except for him. Seeing his red, swollen eyes, the housekeeper immediately brought him an ice pack. After eating, he lay on the sofa, icing his eyes. The housekeeper knew a bit about the arranged marriage with the Shen family. Seeing the former troublemaker now sitting obediently on the sofa, red-eyed and swollen, the housekeeper could not help but feel a sense of pity.
Before noon, Jiang Nanming called him. He said that the people from the Shen family would arrive shortly, and since he had a meeting, he would not be back, but he would visit him at the Shen residence later. Jiang Wu curled his lips at the hung-up phone, feeling a sense of sympathy for the original owner.
Sure enough, as soon as he finished lunch, the people from the Shen family arrived. There were five of them in total, two of whom looked familiar; he had seen them in the living room the day he returned. Jiang Wu stood up, looking at the group in a daze.
Leading them was an elderly man who looked over seventy. He wore a traditional Chinese tunic suit and leaned on a sandalwood cane. Jiang Wu guessed he must be his future fiancé’s grandfather. The old man walked toward him with a smile. “Jiang Wu?”
“Yes, I am.” Jiang Wu nodded nervously. Although the person in front of him looked kind, Jiang Wu could still feel an intense sense of pressure.
The old man looked Jiang Wu up and down, his smile widening as he nodded repeatedly. “Good, very good. Has your father told you the purpose of our visit?” The old man’s tone was gentle.
Jiang Wu nodded obediently. “He has.”
“And what are your thoughts?” the old man asked, his tone still mild.
“I agree.” Jiang Wu hesitated for a moment before giving a small nod. He did not want to agree, but the original owner’s father had practically knelt and begged him yesterday, and his heart had softened.
Hearing his answer, the old man’s smile deepened. “Very good. Do you know who I am?”
“I know a little bit,” Jiang Wu said hesitantly. “Shen Yifeng’s grandfather?”
“Hahaha, now I am your grandfather, too.” The old man laughed. His smile seemed more genuine now, and the oppressive feeling lessened.
“Grandfather,” Jiang Wu called out obediently.
Jiang Wu was dressed in a simple white T-shirt and jeans, and his hair was a natural, clean black. Unlike others who dyed their hair chaotic colors, he looked polite, obedient, and beautiful. Grandfather Shen was extremely satisfied.
Grandfather Shen’s health was not great. Knowing Jiang Wu had agreed, he took him to the car. “We are going to the hospital first. Has little Jiang met little Feng before?”
Sitting beside Grandfather Shen, Jiang Wu shook his head. “No.”
This was the truth. The original owner had never met Shen Yifeng. Although Shen Yifeng occasionally appeared in financial news, the original owner did not pay attention to such things, and there was a ten-year age gap between them. Grandfather Shen seemed to have expected this. He nodded and asked more questions about Jiang Wu, such as where he went to school and what he liked.
An hour later, they arrived at the hospital, a facility owned by the Shen family. Just as they got out of the car, an assistant received a call saying that Shen Yifeng had woken up. Upon hearing this, Shen Shufeng’s eyes filled with eager anticipation. He grabbed Jiang Wu’s hand and said, “It seems little Jiang is truly our family’s lucky star!”
Jiang Wu felt awkward and flustered, thinking to himself that this was all too coincidental. Shen Shufeng did not say anything more; the news of his grandson waking up made him eager to get to the ward. The group quickly took the elevator to the third floor.
Jiang Wu followed them into the room. It was so luxurious that if it were not a hospital, Jiang Wu would have suspected it was a hotel suite. Looking at the layout, he finally realized how wealthy his fiancé truly was. He followed behind Shen Shufeng, walked through the living room to the innermost area, and caught sight of the man on the bed.
The man was half-propped up against the headboard. His brow was deep, his nose high and straight, and his expression cold. Even in a patient’s gown, he could not hide the inherent nobility and frigid grace radiating from his bones. However, looking at him, he did not appear to be someone who had just awoken from a serious illness. Jiang Wu stood to the side, secretly observing; it seemed he had not drawn the short straw after all.
Shen Shufeng stepped forward with his cane, his tone filled with irrepressible joy and excitement. “Waking up is good! Waking up is good!”
“Sorry for making you worry, Grandfather,” Shen Yifeng spoke.
At the sound of Shen Yifeng’s voice, Jiang Wu discovered that the man was not just handsome; his voice was also top-tier.
“Do not talk about that. Are you feeling any discomfort? Have the doctors checked on you?” Shen Shufeng asked with concern.
“I am fine. They have checked,” Shen Yifeng replied briefly.
Then the two chatted about the car accident. As they spoke, Shen Shufeng finally remembered Jiang Wu’s presence. He happily told Shen Yifeng about the lucky omen marriage. After listening, Shen Yifeng’s brows furrowed slightly, and his eyes revealed an expression of displeasure. “Grandfather, I do not agree!”
His voice was not loud, and even carried a hint of weakness, but the resistance in his tone was clear. After he said this, the smile on Shen Shufeng’s face gradually faded. The temperature in the ward dropped significantly.
“From childhood to adulthood, I have never interfered with anything you did, but on this matter, you must listen to me,” Shen Shufeng said slowly, his tone turning serious.
“I do not agree,” Shen Yifeng repeated.
“I think you want to anger me to death!” Shen Shufeng stood up, pointing a finger at the man on the bed, his tone filled with rage. Shen Yifeng did not respond, using silence to express his refusal.
The two remained in a standoff. The ward was deathly quiet. Jiang Wu stood in the corner, picking at his fingers, not knowing what to do. At the same time, he felt a bit resentful; if you do not agree, I am even less inclined to agree.
After a long while, Shen Shufeng compromised. He sighed. “Let us each take a step back. I am in poor health; I might die any day, and my greatest worry is you.”
Before he could finish, Shen Yifeng spoke again, expressionless: “I do not agree.”
Shen Shufeng opened his mouth, swallowed the words he had not finished, and finally said, “Even if your grandfather is begging you, please just spend some time with him. If it does not work out, we can talk about it then, okay?”
Shen Yifeng’s brows relaxed slightly, and he finally nodded.
Having watched the interaction between the grandfather and grandson from the side, Jiang Wu concluded that his fiancé was cold and heartless. As soon as he nodded, Shen Shufeng immediately broke into a smile and gestured for Jiang Wu to come over.
Shen Yifeng followed the direction of Shen Shufeng’s gesture. A beautiful, exquisite youth came into view.
