- Chapter 76.1 - I want to take a bite out of you
Ding Moyan followed Ding Bai with lingering fear, not noticing the turn ahead and accidentally bumping into a pillar.
Ding Bai: “Why did you come back?”
“Let me see the invitation you sent.” Ding Moyan held her head with one hand while pulling out her phone with the other, dramatically reading aloud the message Ding Bai had sent.
Ding Bai choked visibly, swallowing hard before gritting her teeth: “If you had any backbone, you wouldn’t have come.”
“If you had any backbone, would you have needed to send me something like this?” Ding Moyan retorted sharply, her tone mocking.
Ding Bai was left speechless again.
Seeing her at a loss for words, Ding Moyan’s mood improved significantly.
For the rest of the time, Ding Bai remained silent, afraid she might die of anger, and expressionlessly led Ding Moyan to her room.
Ding Bai pushed the door open and said, “This is your room.”
“Dinner is at seven. Remember to come to the main hall.” Ding Bai spoke indifferently, relaying Old Lady Ding’s instructions.
The System Panel covered the entire main residence, capable of scanning and revealing any hidden passages or rooms in an instant, displaying them before Ding Moyan.
Conventionally, many prominent families would conceal their secrets within hidden passages.
Two secret rooms, this was Ding Moyan’s first course of action.
Once Ding Bai left, Ding Moyan climbed out the window and, guided by the System Panel, successfully avoided cameras and passing servants.
Ding Moyan arrived at the nearest secret room, a study with a hidden passage behind the bookshelves.
A servant was cleaning inside, making it impossible for her to enter now.
Ding Moyan tiptoed to a corner and crouched down.
The study wasn’t large, but a thorough cleaning would take considerable effort.
“Coming back to my own home, only to end up sneaking around and crouching in corners,” Ding Moyan muttered helplessly, resting her chin on her hand.
“Ah, how pitiful.” A voice suddenly came from above.
Startled, Ding Moyan whipped her head around and looked up.
Perched on a thick tree branch was a girl about her age.
The A+ class instructor, the last person Ding Moyan wanted to see.
The girl tilted her head slightly as a cool breeze brushed through her hair.
“Hi!” She smiled warmly and waved.
Ding Moyan’s eyes flickered, and she took a few steps back, pressing her elbow against the wall as she watched warily.
Ying Shu effortlessly jumped down from the tree. Wearing combat boots, her steps were firm and powerful.
High-level pheromones suppressed the Alpha who was about to flee.
Though both had A-level Glands, their strengths differed.
Ying Shu’s Gland was the highest-tier A-level, and Ding Moyan keenly felt that the pheromones she emitted were far stronger than her own.
Ying Shu moved closer, so close that she was almost touching Ding Moyan’s face. With nowhere left to retreat, Ding Moyan could only turn her head away.
“Miss Ding, it’s been a few days. You’ve become even more delectable.”
Ding Moyan’s fair face flushed abruptly. “Instructor, isn’t harassing a student inappropriate?”
“How is this harassment? This is just your instructor praising you.”
How shameless!
Ding Moyan’s expression darkened. She clenched her fists silently, trying to calm her agitated emotions.
“Instructor, why are you here?” Ding Moyan couldn’t understand Ying Shu’s presence. Please don’t tell her it was because she failed to bring her parents, so the instructor came to visit personally.
“You didn’t know? The omega your brother is engaged to is my cousin Ying Chen.” Ying Shu stood up, stepping back to a comfortable distance with a meaningful smile. “So it seems we’re practically family now.”
So the unfortunate omega marrying Ding Yue was Ying Shu’s cousin.
“Look at that expression. You really didn’t know, did you?”
Ding Moyan remained composed, stubbornly retorting, “Of course I knew. I just didn’t expect you to arrive so early.”
Ying Shu simply responded with an “Oh,” leaving it unclear whether she believed her or not.
“Why were you up in the tree?”
“Looking for something,” Ying Shu got straight to the point. “What have you discovered?”
Ding Moyan ignored her question and countered, “What exactly could you find here?”
“The A-Grade reagent. You must have heard of it.”
Ding Moyan’s expression stiffened.
“Relax, I’m not your enemy. In fact, I want Zong Jia to return safely just as much as you do.”
In the original story, Ying Shu was the President’s assistant and close friend, with no ill intentions toward her.
Ding Moyan asked, “What else do you know?”
“Oh, I know plenty.”
Ying Shu smirked. “If you want to know, shouldn’t Student Ding offer something in return?”
“Hmph.” Ding Moyan shot her a sidelong glance. “The professor seems fond of breaking rules.”
“Such sharp words, Student Ding. Professors don’t care for students like that.” Ying Shu turned slightly and flicked her forehead in mock reprimand.
“Psycho.”
Ying Shu shrugged playfully. “Good students shouldn’t curse.”
“Good professors answer their students’ questions without holding back.”
Ying Shu studied her, this Alpha once again piquing her curiosity. Her pheromones suddenly intensified, and Ding Moyan’s pained gasp played like beautiful music in her ears, stirring an inexplicable thrill within her.
The weight of that intense gaze doubled the invisible pressure on Ding Moyan’s shoulders.
“Mmm.” Her knees nearly buckled as she gritted her teeth, barely able to withstand the overwhelming pheromone suppression. She wanted to curse but found herself unable to speak.
What rotten luck to run into this sadist who took pleasure in others’ discomfort.
“Professor, could you rein in your pheromones? Your student is in pain.”
Ying Shu narrowed her dark eyes, watching her for several long moments before finally relenting. “Fine.”
As the oppressive pheromones receded, the weight on Ding Moyan’s chest lifted, and she felt like she could breathe again.
“I found old recordings left by the previous head of the Geyas Si family in their main residence. They involve the Ding family, A-Grade Contraband Drugs, the B-to-O experiments, and several unsolved cases of missing omegas from years ago.”
Ying Shu’s expression turned serious. “Zong Jia’s last known location was the Ding family’s main residence. Given the illegal experiments, her situation could be dangerous.”
“After all, she’s my friend. I wouldn’t just stand by and watch.”
Then she added, “What’s your next move?”
Ding Moyan studied her frank demeanor, her thoughts conflicted. After a long pause, she answered, “I found a hidden room here.”
“A hidden room?” Ying Shu glanced toward the study before returning her gaze to Ding Moyan.
They locked eyes until Ding Moyan finally spoke. “Let’s check it out later.”
Ying Shu nodded. “Agreed.”
A noise came from the nearby door, and both fell silent, concealing themselves as they watched intently.
A servant finished cleaning, closed the door, and left.
The moment they were gone, the two quickly slipped inside.
The study was small, with books lining both sides. Ding Moyan and Ying Shu divided the tasks, one went left, the other right.
Starting from the bottom and working their way up,
Ding Moyan noticed something amiss when her gaze reached the sixth shelf.
“Why is this book upside down?” She stood on tiptoe and reached for the book on the sixth shelf.
In an instant, the large bookshelf on the right split open in the middle, sending thick clouds of dust flying. Ying Shu frowned, covering her nose with one hand while waving the other to clear the air.
A pitch-black passage appeared before them. Ding Moyan walked over from the other side.
Exchanging a glance, they wordlessly turned on their phone flashlights to illuminate the path and cautiously descended step by step.
The secret passage wasn’t long, but the thick dust suggested no one had been here for years.
They reached the bottom in just a few minutes, a cramped space of a few square meters, the stench of decay assaulting their senses.
Ding Moyan’s expression darkened as she quickly scanned the room.
Spiderwebs, insects, rats, and maggots covered every surface. On the far right stood a stark white skeleton, tattered cloth hanging from its bones. Judging by its size, it likely belonged to an adult man.
Crunch.
Ying Shu lowered her gaze slightly, her eyelid twitching unnaturally as if she had stepped on something.
A tattered notebook.
Ding Moyan noticed it. She pulled out a pair of gloves, bent down, and carefully picked up the notebook.
AL
“This symbol…”
“I’ve seen it before.” Ying Shu’s brows furrowed as she tapped the corner of the page where the symbol was marked. “This is Shen Chang’an’s pen name AL, short for Anle, meaning ‘peace and happiness.’”
“Shen Chang’an’s notebook.” Ding Moyan’s gaze shifted to the skeleton, her expression flickering with shock and realization. Her pupils constricted, her voice trembling as she hesitated, “Then this…”
Ying Shu’s tone was grim. “There’s a high chance it’s his remains.”
Suddenly, Ying Shu stiffened, her brows knitting together.
Noticing her pale complexion, Ding Moyan asked with rare concern, “What’s wrong?”
“Just a headache. It’s nothing.” Ying Shu smacked her own head lightly, her chest rising and falling unevenly. A strange, stifling heat weighed on her. After a moment, she said, “Let’s see what he wrote first.”
“Right.” Ding Moyan nodded and flipped open the notebook. This was the most important thing now.
[I am Shen Chang’an. This is my first day at the AZ Special Research Institute, a facility funded entirely by my mentor. Zhang Cen is an outstanding mentor who has provided me with invaluable academic guidance, especially in the field of gender transformation.]
[This is a unique research institute where our goal is the pursuit of ideals. Here, I will fulfill my ambitions. I will succeed!]
[I’ve done it! After such a long period of research, I’ve finally perfected the experiment to transform a Beta into an Alpha. This is the first successful case of B-to-A conversion.]
[After months of observation, the experimental subject’s vital signs remain perfectly healthy. I believe it won’t be long before I can refine this procedure. Once it’s introduced to the public, Betas will no longer face discrimination due to their secondary gender. The populations of Alphas and Omegas will stabilize, and Omegas will no longer be a scarce resource exploited by Alphas.]
[I vomited. So the glands I’ve been using were actually carved out from living people’s necks, not artificial glands.
My God, what have I done? Am I a murderer? Every time I see the glands prepared for the experiments, knowing they were gouged from others, my stomach churns with nausea, the urge to retch overwhelming.]
[There’s no turning back. I’ve uncovered their secret, they won’t let me leave.]
[Damn Lan Bo. He’s a complete psychopath. He took a liking to Zou Ming’s gland, personally drugged him, and cruelly carved it out from the back of his neck to keep as a trophy. By the time I reached the operating room, it was over. I couldn’t save him.
This left a deep scar in my mind. That night, I had a nightmare.]
[Zou Ming’s mental state deteriorated. My experiment was nearing success, and for the first time in a while, I felt excitement. I no longer had the energy to spare for Zou Ming, even “comforting” him to endure it though this gland wasn’t as good as his original, it was still decent.
Truthfully, I’ve grown colder over time, not as reverent toward life as before. I act decisively with the experimental subjects, and when faced with failures, I walk past them without hesitation, shutting the door and releasing the sterilization gas to eliminate the useless rejects. What’s happening to me? Am I losing my mind?]
[Zou Ming died. I witnessed his Gland Rejection firsthandhe turned into a monstrous, cannibalistic creature before the guards shot him dead.
Cold sweat drenched me. For the first time, I considered quitting.]
[Lan Bo has gone mad. He’s fixated on an S-grade gland and secretly hired people to target that Omega.
I can’t stop him. I’m powerless. I have my own family, I can’t abandon them. The more this goes on, the more I’ve come to revere life. I secretly helped, leaving behind all the research Zou Ming and I had done at the Zong family, hoping it would aid and warn them.]
[Lan Bo found out I tipped them off. With my younger brother at stake, I had no way out. So I faked my death and fled from Planet AR5 in the Second Star System.
I just hope my brother stays safe, living up to his name Changle (Eternal Joy).]
Old Lady Ding’s laboratory, the S-grade gland, Zong Jia.
An inexplicable dread gripped Ding Moyan. She suddenly hesitated to keep reading.
Time was running out. She bit down on the soft flesh inside her cheek, the pain sharpening her focus. Trembling, she turned the page.
The handwriting grew messier. Further down, there were details about Zong Jia.
[Stardate 306.3.1, Clear Skies
After many years, I saw that S-grade Omega born into the empire. She’s from the Zong family, close with Changle and Ying Shu.
I uncovered the experiment group’s trail. Their original target was Zong Jia, but during the escape, something went wrong. Zong Jia’s cousin protected her, knocking her unconscious and hiding her before drawing the kidnappers away.
Days later, her body was found by a stream.
I remember that child’s name, Mo Ci.]
[They’ve found traces of me. They suspect I’m still alive.]
[In the end, I failed. My teacher captured me and locked me up here.]
