- Chapter 69 - Progress Report from Princess Ye Ye on Stealing Someone's Crush
Ever since that bizarre dream, Ding Moyan had been tiptoeing around Wang Ye in fear.
She had no idea about the Buddhist prayer beads in Wang Ye’s hand. But if it really was as her dream had shown, if the original owner had indeed committed the sin of treating it as a token of love, then she was utterly screwed.
Slumped in her chair, Ding Moyan stared blankly ahead while the lecturer enthusiastically delivered the lesson. Her mind had long wandered off, absorbing nothing.
Even after class ended, she remained dazed, still sitting in her seat, completely unaware that the classroom had emptied except for her and Ye Ye.
“Ding Moyan.” Ye Ye approached, sucking on a fruit candy while twirling a black chess piece in her right hand.
“Huh?” The voice snapped Ding Moyan back to reality, and she sluggishly lifted her head.
“You didn’t sleep last night,” Ye Ye pointed at Ding Moyan’s noticeably dark eye bags.
Ding Moyan: “What do you want?”
Ye Ye pulled two tickets from her pocket and placed them on the desk. “Come watch a movie with me later.”
Ding Moyan refused without hesitation. “No.”
“Something happened. Aren’t you concerned about the President?”
“Tell me here.”
Ye Ye reached out and tucked a stray lock of hair behind Ding Moyan’s ear, her expression flickering with something unreadable. “I’m in a bad mood, so I tend to forget things. You’ll have to watch the movie with me first before I remember what I wanted to say.”
As if anticipating Ding Moyan’s next move, Ye Ye added, “The news is under lockdown you won’t find anything if you try to look it up now. But I’ll give you a heads-up: Zong Jia’s in a bad spot.”
Ding Moyan’s gaze sharpened. Her heartbeat quickened unnaturally, and her palm pressed down on the movie ticket, veins bulging on the back of her hand. She took a deep breath. “How do you know about this?”
Ye Ye straightened triumphantly, flashing a sweet smile. “That’s confidential. But I can guarantee you won’t get any information about Zong Jia from anyone else but me.”
Her smug tone left Ding Moyan with no choice.
“Fine, I’ll go,” Ding Moyan agreed. Zong Jia had texted her when the police had invited him for questioning. As for what Ye Ye was implying, Ding Moyan wondered if it was related to A-.
But no matter what, she couldn’t afford to take risks with the President.
Ye Ye grabbed Ding Moyan’s hand like they were the best of friends. “Let’s go then.”
Perhaps Ding Moyan’s luck was particularly rotten today, because the moment they stepped out of the classroom, they ran into a female classmate who had returned to grab her meal card.
“Ye Ye, Ding Moyan, you, you two.” The girl covered her mouth, staring at the pair holding hands like sisters.
Ye Ye’s eyes sparkled. “!”
“……” Ding Moyan subtly tried to pull her arm free, but Ye Ye noticed and tightened her grip.
“What’s the matter? Little Yan-Yan and I are going to watch a movie. Got a problem with that?”
“M-movie?!” The girl bit her tongue in shock, yelping in pain before quickly shaking her head. “N-no problem at all!”
Satisfied with the girl’s compliance, Ye Ye tugged Ding Moyan along. “Let’s go, Little Yan-Yan!”
As soon as they left, the girl scurried back into the classroom. As a die-hard shipper of the President and the school belle, the image of an Alpha and Omega going to the movies alone together short-circuited her brain. She completely forgot she had come back for her meal card.
The first thing upon entering the classroom: take out the phone.
The second thing upon entering the classroom: head to the official CP forum and drop a bombshell.
[Sisters! It’s over, the campus belle has really, truly cheated!]
Ding Moyan and Ye Ye arrived at the downtown square, taking the elevator up to the third-floor cinema.
“Wait here, I’ll go buy popcorn,” Ye Ye said, her gaze landing on the popcorn machine as she let go of Ding Moyan’s hand and trotted over.
There weren’t many moviegoers today, and even fewer people buying popcorn.
Ye Ye bought two large buckets of popcorn and drinks, her eyes drifting to the alpha sitting quietly at a small table.
Ding Moyan’s eyes were cool and detached. She bit down on a black hair tie, using both hands to gather her dark tresses into a high ponytail, instantly making her look fresher and more energetic than her previously listless self.
Ye Ye pursed her lips, thinking to herself: as long as you swing the hoe well enough, even the toughest wall can be dug through.
She placed the popcorn buckets on the small table, deliberately taking a photo to send to Yu Sisi, who was back in the dorm doing homework: Look! Sweet popcorn.
Yu Sisi held her phone: Wow! Ding Moyan actually agreed to go with you?
As she sent this message, she stood up in shock. After all, Ding Moyan had marked an omega, if she’d casually agreed to Ye Ye’s invitation, then Ding Moyan would truly be something else.
Her sudden movement caught the attention of Ding Bai sitting nearby.
Ding Bai turned his head: “What’s wrong?”
Yu Sisi summarized: “The President might be getting a little green hat.”
Ding Bai: “?”
While talking to Ding Bai, Ye Ye replied: Of course! When I set my mind to something, I always succeed. Ding Moyan agreed without hesitation.
Yu Sisi: Without hesitation? Really? I don’t believe it. Did you threaten her or something?
Ye Ye pouted: How could I? She was eager to be with me. Anyway, gotta go we’re heading in to get our tickets checked.
Ye Ye muted her phone and handed one bucket of popcorn and a drink to Ding Moyan.
The movie began.
Ye Ye munched on her popcorn with relish. Whether she was genuinely engrossed or just messing around, once she finished her own bucket, her fair hand naturally reached into Ding Moyan’s bucket. While grabbing a couple of sweet popcorn pieces, she accidentally dropped one onto Ding Moyan’s hand.
The movement was smooth and unpretentious, without a trace of affectation.
Ding Moyan frowned. It seemed intentional, yet finishing one bucket before moving to the next was perfectly reasonable.
Ding Moyan handed her popcorn bucket to Ye Ye: “Eat your own.”
Ye Ye grumbled: “So unromantic.”
Ding Moyan: “What?”
Ye Ye glanced sideways with a sweet smile: “Nothing.”
The theater was pitch black, save for the light from the movie screen insufficient for anyone to notice the subtle movements of couples in their seats.
“Ye Ye.”
“Hmm?”
Ding Moyan lowered her gaze: “You’re about to climb onto my lap.”
“Ah, really?” Ye Ye played dumb.
“Sit the hell down properly,” Ding Moyan said, rubbing her aching head.
Ye Ye gave an “mhm” and finally straightened up slightly.
Ding Moyan pursed her lips disinterestedly. The clichéd romance on the big screen was so predictable that one glance was enough to guess the next scene.
There was no immersion whatsoever, she couldn’t understand why Ye Ye had picked this kind of love story.
As the credits rolled, Ding Moyan and Ye Ye walked out.
At the entrance, a person dressed in a giant bear costume stopped them.
“Hello, ladies.”
“This is the Couple’s Wishing Wall. Couples can take photos, print them, and paste them here to make a wish. The wishes will come true.”
Ye Ye was very interested. “Ding Moyan, come on, let’s take a picture together.”
Ding Moyan frowned, her expression displeased. “No.”
“You have to. You’re taking this photo with me.”
“Is this really necessary, Ye Ye?” Ding Moyan lowered her voice. “I already have an Omega.”
The bear mascot awkwardly watched the two, utterly confused.
Ding Moyan turned on her phone to check the time, after all, she had only agreed to watch a movie with Ye Ye, nothing more.
As the screen lit up, dozens of missed calls flooded her vision, all from the same person: Wang Ye.
Ding Moyan’s expression shifted. Had something happened to Wang Ye?
That was her first thought.
She quickly dialed back. The phone rang several times with no answer. Just as she was about to rush back to the apartment, the call connected.
“Moyan!”
A weak, fragmented voice came through the line. Ding Moyan’s hands trembled uncontrollably, her heart still tense as her steps quickened.
“I feel unwell.”
The laboratory door opened, and a young man with short golden hair walked in.
He wore a white lab coat with a small badge on his chest that read: “AZ Special Research Institute, Lan Bo Kleia.”
He was a renowned interstellar expert and professor, as well as one of the earliest developers of the A-329 Potion.
Lan Bo held the latest experimental subject report in his hand. He sat down in the corner lounge area, his well-defined fingers flipping through the pages.
The lab’s fluorescent lights were at maximum brightness, straining Lan Bo’s eyes as he read. He looked up, the light reflecting harshly off his glasses.
“The room brightness can be lowered by three levels,” Lan Bo said.
A woman in the same attire stood nearby, holding a test tube. Her gaze was fixed on the freshly drawn blood sample in her hand, her expression focused and stern.
“Adjust it yourself. Can’t you see I’m testing blood compatibility?” she retorted without looking up.
“Aili, you’re no fun,” Lan Bo sighed, carelessly placing the documents on an empty table before standing to lower the brightness.
The lights dimmed immediately, no longer as blinding.
Aili pinched the test tube containing the new A-series Potion between her middle finger and thumb, gently swirling it. The experiment had hit a bottleneck, and her mood had been foul for days.
She shot Lan Bo a disgusted glance, her face icy, her tone sharp and laced with warning: “Lan Bo Kleia, if you keep distracting me with useless chatter, I’ll report you to Boss Ding for being a nuisance and disrupting your colleagues with your pointless antics.”
“Tsk tsk tsk, dear Aili, you’re so harsh,” Lan Bo chuckled, unfazed by her threat.
No sooner had he spoken than the lab’s white lights flickered and turned a flashing red.
Woo!
An alarm blared from the panel display.
“Experimental Subject Z068.”
Beep beep beep beep beep.
“Warning, warning! Experimental Subject Z068 has breached containment and escaped!”
