- Chapter 17 - Supplies Are Meant to Be Seized
Ding Moyan slowly opened her eyes, greeted by a plain white ceiling. She shifted slightly, realizing she was lying on a large bed in a brightly lit room illuminated by incandescent lights.
She exhaled deeply, raising a hand to massage her aching head, still unaccustomed to the discomfort, hoping to ease the pain.
Sitting up, she surveyed the unfamiliar bedroom, scanning her surroundings.
“What’s that awful smell?”
Her nose twitched as the foul odor grew stronger. Frowning, she noticed a putrid, tattered sock lying where she had been resting. With a swift kick, she sent it flying off the bed.
As the sock hit the floor, a screen popped up.
[Player Ding Moyan has completed the preliminary task: Find a Stinky Sock.]
[Congratulations! You have obtained a black handgun.]
[Black Handgun Description: This is a very, very ordinary handgun, an outdated model long since phased out.]
The black handgun dropped from the screen with a thud, and Ding Moyan caught it effortlessly.
Examining it closely, she felt a mix of excitement and disbelief this was her first time holding such a thing. But then she realized: the gun had no bullets. Not a single one.
So, what was the point of this?
[Ding]
[Player Ding Moyan’s Main Mission One: Form a team (Note: Teams must consist of 5 players) and gather at the central square of the town within 30 minutes.]
“Five per team. First, I need to find Wang Ye.” Ding Moyan muttered to herself, tucking the black handgun into her pants pocket.
[Countdown begins]
[30:00]
[29:59…]
The crimson numbers on the screen steadily decreased. Without hesitation, Ding Moyan bolted out of the room.
The streets ahead were eerie, the air thick with the metallic tang of blood. Stains splattered the ground, yet no bodies were in sight. She swallowed hard.
Cautiously, she walked for over ten minutes without encountering a single trace of human presence.
Seriously? Was this game going to end before it even began?
“System, are you there?” Ding Moyan pinged her dedicated system, 7788.
[I am.]
Ding Moyan: “Can you scan for nearby players?”
[Host, are you trying to cheat?]
The system mocked her with an emoji. [Weren’t you so confident before?]
Ding Moyan’s lips twitched. “You’re the confident one. You’re the best.”
The system stared at her for a few seconds before huffing and replying, [Including you, there are currently 46 players.]
Five per team. That meant one person was bound to be eliminated. Ding Moyan pressed a finger to her chin, leaning against a wall as she pondered.
[However, Host, your current location is too far from the other players. Without a vehicle, running there in time is impossible.]
Following the suggestion, Ding Moyan headed to the parking lot to search for a car.
But she had a question: “Am I the only one this far away?”
[Yes. You’re the only one isolated like this. The others are already grouped together.]
“Ugh, just my luck.”
The parking lot was only a short distance away. Inside, rows of vehicles hovered slightly above the ground.
Ding Moyan had never driven a hover car before she wasn’t even sure how to operate one.
【Hover cars operate similarly to regular cars in the host’s world, though they offer better speed and safety.】
“Oh,” Ding Moyan nodded, selecting a jet-black vehicle and sliding into the driver’s seat.
These hover cars all had keys inserted, provided as dedicated tools for players.
Following the knowledge she’d acquired in real life, Ding Moyan fastened her seatbelt, started the ignition, shifted gears, and released the handbrake. The hover car began to move.
【Host, watch the road! Turn!】
The system was terrified, watching Ding Moyan’s car swerve left and right. It was scared half to death, fearing a sudden collision with the wall ahead at any second.
【Host, how did you even pass your driver’s license test?】
Ding Moyan replied calmly, “I don’t have a license. I just picked up some knowledge here and there.”
The system was stunned. 【You’re in your twenties in real life, how have you never learned to drive?】
“Why should I learn when someone always drives me around?” Ding Moyan made another perilous turn, nearly sending the system to the afterlife.
【If you can’t drive, why are you even trying?!】
“Time’s tight. Since we’re bound to be eliminated anyway, might as well take a gamble.” Ding Moyan pressed down on the accelerator, racing against the wind.
As she drove onto the bridge, a loud “BOOM” echoed from not too far away.
“What was that?” Ding Moyan turned the wheel, peering through the window toward the collapsing building in the distance.
Ding Bai, wearing jet-propelled shoes, leaped from one rooftop to another.
She glanced back, the building she had just been standing on was crumbling into rubble.
Had she hesitated even a second longer, she would have been buried beneath it.
“Fucking idiots,” Ye Ye muttered, clutching her bleeding arm, her expression dark as she glared at the ruined building.
Yu Sisi frowned at the scene before them. “What do we do now?”
“Those bastards will probably come after us again.”
“They already have five people. Compared to us, time is on their side.” Ding Bai opened a first-aid kit and began bandaging Ye Ye’s wound medical supplies she had just snatched.
The gash on Ye Ye’s arm was from a long blade. With the added vulnerability of her Omega status, Ding Bai considered it a serious injury.
“What’s our next move? There are only three of us now,” Yu Sisi said, scanning their surroundings for threats.
The pain made Ye Ye suck in a sharp breath, her teeth chattering. “Ding Moyan, we should team up with her.”
“The problem is, we don’t know where she is right now.”
Yu Sisi pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration. “That’s the worst part. We’re all Omegas physically, we can’t compete with those Alphas and Betas.”
“Don’t be so pessimistic,” Ye Ye panted, holding up two fingers. “We still took down one male Alpha. If that other guy hadn’t had a revival item, we would’ve gotten two.”
Ding Bai tightened the bandage around her wound with a sharp tug, sending a jolt of pain straight to Ye Ye’s brain.
“Ow!” Ye Ye winced, her lips trembling pitifully. “Bai Bai, be gentler, it hurts!”
Ding Bai scoffed, retaliating. “Oh, now it hurts? Weren’t you fearless when you jumped straight at those idiots to steal their stuff?”
“Someone had to grab the supplies sooner or later,” Ye Ye grumbled under her breath.
“What was that?” Ding Bai threatened, giving the bandage another tug.
Ye Ye raised her uninjured hand in surrender. “No, no, nothing at all. I promise I won’t do it again,” she said.
As soon as the words left her mouth,
Twang!
The bowstring snapped, piercingly clear in the silent night.
A silver-feathered arrow sliced through the air, whizzing past Yu Sisi’s ear and shooting straight behind her.
“Ding Bai!” Yu Sisi’s pupils dilated as cold sweat broke out on her skin. She wanted to stop the arrow, but it was already too late.
