- Chapter 16 - Raising a Sweetheart Rule 16: The Green Tea Gets a Taste of Her Own Medicine
Ding Moyan noticed early on that Wang Ye was in low spirits. She held out a candied hawthorn stick and pressed it into Wang Ye’s hand. “Here.”
Wang Ye removed her earphones, her expression slightly awkward, but she forced herself to remain composed. “Th-thank you.”
“No need.”
Ding Moyan continued, “Eat it. It’s really sweet.”
Generally, sweet treats were the best way to forget all unhappiness and cheer up.
Wang Ye stared at the candied hawthorn in her hand. The natural sweet-and-sour aroma of the hawthorns was tantalizing, as if they might come alive any second, jumping off the stick one by one, calling out, “Eat me, eat me, I’m the tastiest!”
Wang Ye murmured a soft “Mm,” licked her lips, and took a bite.
The moment the candied hawthorn entered her mouth, the sweet-and-sour flavor instantly filled her entire palate. That fluttery feeling surged in her heart again, but then she remembered what Ye Ye had said, and the taste in her mouth suddenly turned bitter.
Ye Ye must be furious right now, she wouldn’t let this opportunity slip by. Wang Ye’s expression darkened as she distinctly sensed an intense chill coming from her right side.
As expected, when Ye Ye saw this scene, her face twisted into something ugly.
An Alpha who had accepted her roses was now cozying up to a Beta, how laughable.
Ye Ye snapped, “Ding Moyan, I want that candied hawthorn.”
“The vendor is right in front of you,” Ding Moyan replied.
“I want this exact one.” Ye Ye glared at Ding Moyan, forcibly grabbing the candied hawthorn from Wang Ye’s hand and yanking it away.
Ding Moyan looked at Ye Ye as if she were insane and pulled her back. “Ye Ye, are you out of your mind?”
Ye Ye bristled. “You’re the one out of your mind! I want that one!”
“Wang Ye, just give it to her,” Ding Moyan said irritably.
Wang Ye gave an awkward smile and handed the candied hawthorn to Ye Ye. “Okay.”
Ye Ye acted as if she had won a great victory, clutching the half-eaten treat with a disdainful sniff.
Just as Wang Ye was sinking into sadness, Ding Moyan’s voice turned doting. “I’ll buy you a new one.”
“Boss, two more sticks, please.”
Wang Ye’s smile gradually widened, her eyes glimmering with delight.
“The boss isn’t allowed to sell any! I’m buying them all!” Ye Ye’s beautiful eyes burned with anger. Driven by jealousy, she arrogantly slapped down a card.
Did she like Ding Moyan?
Of course not. The root of her fury was Ding Moyan’s indifference toward her. No one had ever dared to treat her this way to ignore her like this.
Yu Sisi slowly sidled up to Ding Bai and muttered, “Why is Ye Ye acting so childish? Like a little kid.”
“I think she’s lost her mind,” Ding Bai remarked, understanding the situation all too well.
Buzz!
The phone in her pocket vibrated, the screen lighting up with a notification. Ding Bai glanced down, and her expression instantly turned serious.
Yu Sisi blinked, smirking mischievously. “Tsk, whose message? Not one of your admirers, is it?”
“The President,” Ding Bai replied coolly, shooting Yu Sisi a look, she could easily guess what nonsense was running through her mind.
Yu Sisi’s expression froze. “Oh. Never mind, then.”
Ding Bai scoffed at Yu Sisi’s sudden meekness and typed out a reply to the President’s message.
Question and answer just like their usual superior-subordinate dynamic at school.
But when the next message popped up, Ding Bai’s expression turned strange. She stared at the President’s words, momentarily at a loss for how to respond.
Yu Sisi noticed Ding Bai had paused for a long time, her curiosity piqued.
She whispered, “What did the President send?”
“Nothing.” Ding Bai straightened his expression and turned off his phone screen.
“You did that on purpose.” Ding Moyan glared at her unhappily.
Ye Ye grinned, openly admitting, “Yes, I did it on purpose.”
Sometimes people were just strange. Take Ye Ye, for example. According to the system introduction, she was Ding Moyan’s arch-rival sweet, affected, and very much a “Green Tea” type. Logically, she should be delicate and demure, not suddenly unreasonable and willful like this.
“Mo Yan, no, it’s fine.” Wang Ye tugged at Ding Moyan’s sleeve, her thick bangs covering her eyes, looking pitifully bullied, evoking an inexplicable pang of sympathy.
Ding Moyan coldly met Ye Ye’s absurd gaze before softening as she ruffled Wang Ye’s hair. Her heart melted, already planning to buy Wang Ye a dozen different-flavored candied haws when they got back to the dorm.
Ye Ye’s eye twitched. She was stunned. For the first time, she, who had always played the “Green Tea” role, felt like she had been outplayed by a Beta who was supposedly beneath her in every way.
This aftertaste was suffocating so damn frustrating.
Following the game voucher they got from their meal, Ding Moyan arrived at the destination.
It was a massive gaming arcade filled with all kinds of gaming machines.
According to the directions, the entrance to this game was on the far left of the third floor.
Ding Moyan and the others took the elevator to the entrance.
The entry point for this holographic game was a massive cave. At the cave’s mouth stood a ticket scanner and a card reader either scan the voucher or pay by card.
The game was called Nationwide Escape.
Ding Moyan’s gaze fell on the game introduction board, which listed the details and precautions.
‘This is a 5v5 holographic horror escape game. Players form teams to start Nationwide Escape, avoiding dungeon monsters while eliminating rival teams to claim the game’s crown.’
‘Friendly reminder: For player safety, those with medical conditions and children under eight are prohibited from playing. Additionally, this game contains elements of horror, terror, ghosts, and gore, making it unsuitable for adorable Omegas.’
Among them, only Ding Bai hadn’t purchased the couples’ package everyone else had the entry ticket for this holographic game.
Yu Sisi gulped. She was terrified of horror-themed holographic games. Even though you couldn’t actually die in them, the pain sensation was still intense.
“A horror game?” Ye Ye hesitated, already wanting to back out.
“Looks thrilling.” In real life, Ding Moyan had never tried something as novel as holographic gaming.
“Let’s go.” Clutching two vouchers, she grabbed Wang Ye’s hand and headed for the game entrance.
“Wait for me! I’m coming too!”
Yu Sisi reached out and yanked Ye Ye’s arm. “Don’t be impulsive! Calm down, there are ghosts in there! Holographic games are super realistic. Aren’t you the most scared of ghosts?”
Ye Ye shook off Yu Sisi’s grip. “I’m training my courage. I want to play this game.”
“Don’t you think it looks exciting and fun?”
“Not at all.” Yu Sisi crossed her arms. “You just took a step back when you saw the word ‘ghost’ on the sign.”
“Besides, the President wouldn’t play something so…” Before she could finish, she saw Ding Bai walking toward the game entrance and hurried after him. “Hey! President, you’re not seriously going to play, are you?”
Here, Ding Bai kept rubbing the phone in her pocket, still remembering the President’s message: “Keep an eye on Ding Moyan for me. Report immediately if anything seems off.”
Driven by her admiration for the President, Ding Bai didn’t hesitate for a second. She quickly swiped her card and logged into the newly released holographic game.
