- Chapter 24 - The Eve
As soon as Yu Ke sent the message, she was bombarded with one-sided texts from Lan Zhen:
“Why the sudden change of heart?”
“Still unwilling to accept it, aren’t you?”
“If I help you just because you asked, wouldn’t I lose face?”
“Do you have a plan?”
Who would have thought that Lan Xing’s sister was such a chatterbox? Yu Ke replied with a disdainful emoticon: “(=, =)”
Lan Zhen sent a flurry of angry stickers in response, which amused Yu Ke.
Soon, Lan Zhen arrived on Yu Ke’s spaceship and urged them to take off immediately.
The three on the ship were taken aback. Lan Zhen pressed, “You’ve been kicked out of the sea restaurant. Why are you still lingering? Waiting to get beaten up?”
Li Jian’an started the engine and remarked coolly, “We were about to take off, but shouldn’t you disembark, miss?”
Lan Zhen replied cheerfully, “Of course, I’m coming with you!”
“???”
Yu Ke asked, “Don’t you have your own ship?”
“I just want to hitch a ride on yours,” Lan Zhen said, settling into the captain’s chair and crossing her legs on the control panel with an air of authority. “What’s wrong with that? Not allowed?”
Li Jian’an glanced at the seat she occupied and reminded her, “That’s the captain’s seat. I gave it up for Her Highness the Princess.”
Lan Zhen looked at Yu Ke, who raised an eyebrow slightly and said in a tone that brooked no argument, “Please move.”
When two alphas clashed, a fierce struggle was inevitable, and one side had to yield.
Lan Zhen rose gracefully and leaned against the nearby wall, her tone casual as she asked, “Do you have a plan?”
“I have some ideas,” Yu Ke pursed her lips, “but I’m not sure if Lan Xing will come with us.”
“If she refuses, just take her by force. Is that so hard?” Lan Zhen narrowed her eyes.
Yu Ke could only reply weakly, “I’ll try.”
…
The ship headed toward the planet Labu. Li Jian’an stayed in the cockpit while Yu Ke brewed a pot of coffee, handed him a cup, and settled into the captain’s chair to read the news.
“This is the farthest I’ve ever been from Labu,” Li Jian’an said emotionally. “Even though it’s only been seven days, these have been the happiest seven days of my life.”
Yu Ke glanced at him and continued sipping her coffee while reading.
“Even though we faced some unpleasantness, and Xiao Nan’s situation saddened us all, we’re still carrying on with her, embarking on a brand-new journey!”
Yu Ke set down her coffee cup and asked, “What are you doing?”
“I’m keeping a travel log,” Li Jian’an turned to her with a shy smile. “These will be precious memories to look back on someday.”
Yu Ke smiled and returned to her news.
On the third day of the voyage, Xiao Nan finally emerged from her room and cooked a meal for everyone.
Initially, no one had high expectations for Xiao Nan’s cooking. They just wanted to encourage her to cheer up, taste the food out of politeness, and offer some praise. But when they actually tried her dishes, everyone was astonished!
Yu Ke didn’t hold back her compliments, exclaiming, “This is the best meal I’ve had since leaving the palace!”
Li Jian’an’s eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at Xiao Nan. “What happened? How did you suddenly learn to cook?! And it’s this delicious?!”
Xiao Nan glanced awkwardly at Lan Zhen, rubbing her hands together as she said, “This… this is all thanks to Princess Lan Zhen…”
Lan Zhen unhurriedly savored her cream of mushroom soup, her expression calm as if everything was within her expectations. She smiled lightly and said, “It’s nothing, just a small favor.”
One must know that before this, Xiao Nan couldn’t even cook rice properly, let alone prepare various exquisite Western dishes!
“Did something happen that I don’t know about?” Yu Ke asked.
Lan Zhen merely smiled without answering, appearing profound and mysterious. Over the past few days, she had often accompanied Xiao Nan, and before anyone realized it, Xiao Nan had undergone a remarkable transformation.
Li Jian’an said nervously, “You… you didn’t take advantage of the situation and violate Xiao Nan, did you?!”
Lan Zhen leaned back, frowning disapprovingly. “Although I am an Alpha, I am not a beast.”
Everyone stifled their laughter. Li Jian’an felt conflicted; seeing Xiao Nan close to another Alpha made him very uncomfortable. Yu Ke poured a drink for Lan Zhen and said, “This is a good thing. I thank you on behalf of Xiao Nan.”
“Our mermaid clan has lived in the deep sea for generations, accustomed to solitude and darkness, so our mental strength is much greater than that of you humans,” Lan Zhen said slowly, taking a sip of her drink. “Strong mental strength often influences others, providing support to their spirits. This is why you often say that the songs of mermaids can heal the soul.”
“What heals the soul is not our voices, but our mental strength,” Lan Zhen glanced at Xiao Nan. “Originally, I didn’t want to help her, but I heard that you plan to send her for gland removal surgery?”
Li Jian’an said guiltily, “Because… only then can she completely escape… the torment of pheromones.”
“Is it really necessary?” Lan Zhen propped her chin on one hand, smiling playfully. “When an Omega is stripped of all the joys they should enjoy, aren’t they just the same as Betas?”
Beta Jian’an felt offended and muttered, “Being a Beta is quite happy too…”
Ignoring him, Lan Zhen smiled and studied Yu Ke, but her foot mischievously nudged the wound on Yu Ke’s leg.
In an instant, Yu Ke’s face turned pale with pain.
Lan Zhen laughed carelessly, “This injury of yours, it’s not a problem, right?”
“It won’t affect my performance tomorrow,” Yu Ke said, enduring the pain.
…
The spaceship entered the planet’s orbit, and the satellite system detected their presence, immediately inquiring about their identity.
Lan Zhen opened a video call and directly communicated with the ground: “I am Lan Zhen, the Third Princess of the Panda Planet, invited to attend my sister’s wedding on Ferrari. Please grant clearance for landing.”
After their identities were confirmed, the spaceship proceeded unimpeded to the surface, landing at a quarantine station near the royal capital for security checks.
Yu Ke and Xiao Nan disguised themselves as Lan Zhen’s maids. After some simple alterations to their appearances, they successfully infiltrated the royal capital.
There were still ten hours until the wedding began.
In the palace, Lan Xing was immersed in the swimming pool, making her final preparations before the wedding.
As a princess of the Panda Planet, she would appear in her mermaid form, riding in a carriage and wearing a beautiful wedding dress, to complete the ceremony with Yu Jie in the palace.
Her tail was fully submerged in the water, only occasionally allowing the fin to surface as she swam, like a wisp of blue cloud drifting gracefully through the water.
On the shore, a figure came running, a small face beaming with a smile. It was Sang Jiu, who excitedly called out to Lan Xing, “There’s news from the Third Princess! She’s coming to your wedding!”
With a splash, water flew everywhere as Lan Xing swiftly swam to the shore, her eyes sparkling with delight. In a clear, sweet voice, she asked, “Where is she?”
“She should be on her way,” Sang Jiu said happily. “Now you won’t have any regrets!”
Lan Xing’s lips curved into a charming dimpled smile. She swam around in the water thoughtfully and said, “For the Third Princess to come is already a great honor for me.”
“Of course it is! You are the Princess of Panda, the Third Princess’s sister,” Sang Jiu emphasized deliberately. “After tomorrow, everything will be set in stone!”
“What about…” Lan Xing paused, “Her Highness the Crown Princess… any news of her?”
“None. Queen Jiao has been so furious she’s lost weight,” Sang Jiu snorted. “Serves her right!”
Lan Xing offered no comment, but Sang Jiu continued resentfully, “That incident last time was almost certainly the Queen’s doing. I’ve also heard that the kidnappers didn’t receive their money and are planning to expose the Queen, right at tomorrow’s wedding!”
Lan Xing shook her head. “If I hadn’t been deceived by the Crown Princess’s pheromones, that incident would never have happened…”
“They used the Crown Princess’s pheromones to lure you in, that’s the most despicable part!” Sang Jiu clenched her fists, gritting her teeth. “Thankfully… the Crown Princess didn’t harm you…”
“The Crown Princess is a very, very good person, not at all like we initially imagined.” Lan Xing bent down, submerging herself in the water, allowing her tail to stretch out freely.
Under the light, her beautiful blue tail gradually faded in color, transforming into a completely different style.
…
Six hours remained until the wedding.
Queen Jiao was bustling around the palace, overwhelmed with tasks. Every so often, she would ask Jian Ni, “Any news from Yu Ke?”
Jenny gathered intelligence from various sources, but the only valuable piece of information was a rumor from a few days ago that Yu Ke had been spotted at a seaside restaurant.
“That wretched woman! She took the money and ran! Now those local thugs can’t get their payment and are planning to expose me!” Queen Jiao cursed furiously. “It’s all that wretch’s fault! That wretch!”
Jenny remained silent, taking a soft, sharp breath.
“My plan was flawless,” Queen Jiao snarled, baring her teeth. “If only you had killed Yu Jie back then, everything would have been perfect! If Yu Jie had been killed, someone else would be marrying Lan Xing now, and we wouldn’t have fallen to this state!”
“I’m sorry,” Jenny said quietly. “It was my mistake.”
“Your method of extracting pheromones was flawed, that’s why you were affected by Yu Ke’s pheromones and underwent differentiation at such a critical moment,” Queen Jiao said, her emotions running high. “I warned you! How could you be so foolish?!”
Jenny kept her head lowered, listening as Queen Jiao continued to berate her until she grew tired and finally stopped.
This had been the routine for days, and Jenny had grown accustomed to it.
After the incident of her last differentiation, she had become detached from everything and had no desire to help Queen Jiao handle the various troubles.
Now, her biggest problem was the relentless pursuit of the kidnappers from before, who were threatening Queen Jiao to hand over the promised “twenty billion gold” or else expose her disgraceful actions on the day of the wedding.
Yu Ke had fled with the money, leaving Queen Jiao with no leverage to negotiate with the kidnappers.
With less than six hours left until the wedding, Queen Jiao was still deluding herself into thinking she could capture Yu Ke and silence the kidnappers.
“It’s a total loss, Your Majesty,” Jenny sighed softly. “We need to find a way out.”
…
Meanwhile, Yu Jie was making his final preparations.
After the previous rescue incident, his public approval rating had dropped by fifteen percent, dealing him an unprecedented blow.
Fortunately, Queen Jiao was now on the verge of self-destruction, giving Yu Jie a chance to turn the tables.
This wedding was his biggest bargaining chip. He planned to stage an assassination attempt, then step forward to stabilize the situation during the crisis, winning back the public’s trust.
And the target of his planned assassination… would be the most prominent figure at the wedding.
