Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 78
A month later, Shen Xian’s company’s short video project had completed all phases of testing and was officially launched. The app focused on brief videos of around thirty seconds and included a live streaming function. Shen Xian invested all her earnings from the past few months into promotion, hiring several popular influencers to advertise the platform.
Because each video was just a few seconds long, it was perfect for people to watch during idle moments without taking up much time. With the added boost from influencer promotions, the app quickly went viral.
Its user base expanded beyond just the younger generation to include middle-aged and elderly users as well. Watching short videos had suddenly become the new trend.
In just a few weeks, the project had already brought in significant profits, easily recovering the initial investment. Shen Xian also recruited a number of people to use the app for marketing and product placement, making her company one of the first to collaborate with commercial partners. Along the way, she signed several full-time streamers.
Less than a month after launch, Shen Xian had already earned the ten million yuan needed for Shen Wenkang’s treatment. As soon as the money was credited to her account, she transferred the amount she could withdraw and mentally summoned the system.
“System, I’ve saved the ten million. I need to exchange it for that medicine right away.”
The system immediately understood her intent—to obtain the drug that could treat Shen Wenkang’s condition.
“Understood, Host. Please transfer the funds to the following account. Once payment is received, I will deliver the medication.”
Shen Xian chuckled softly. The system was certainly cautious. She took out her phone and transferred the money to the account provided. Moments later, a notification confirmed the payment, and a green-and-white capsule appeared on the table in front of her. Shen Xian carefully placed it into a small container, planning to give it to Shen Wenkang later that evening. After all, recovering instantly from such a long-term cerebral infarction would be too shocking. If he took the pill and simply woke up cured the next day, the impact would be easier to digest after a night’s sleep.
Meanwhile, at kindergarten, little Shen Tian had been especially fond of playing with Lu Ningwan these past few days. Even though Lu Ningwan often read quietly by herself, Shen Tian would pull up a chair beside her, pretend to read too, and steal glances at her from time to time. Of course, Lu Ningwan was well aware of this but found Shen Tian too cute to call her out.
During the free activity period that afternoon, some kids were doing crafts, others were drawing, and Shen Tian had brought a puzzle her Mommy had bought—a small yellow duck jigsaw the size of an A4 sheet.
Most kids could complete it within one class session. Shen Tian hugged the puzzle and went to find Lu Ningwan.
“Xiao Lu-jiejie, I brought a puzzle! Want to play with me? Mommy says doing puzzles makes you smarter~” Shen Tian leaned on Lu Ningwan’s desk, excitedly promoting her toy.
Lu Ningwan looked at the group of eager kids surrounding Shen Tian and smiled gently. If it had just been the two of them, she might’ve said yes. But seeing the crowd of little ones, her head throbbed a little. She didn’t want to entertain a whole group.
“Thanks, Tiantian, but I think I’ll keep reading for now,” Lu Ningwan declined politely.
Shen Tian pouted and blinked her big eyes in disappointment.
“Okay then… I’ll go play by myself~” she said in her soft little voice, turning to leave with a few other kids.
Lu Ningwan saw her retreating figure and felt a pang of regret for not joining in.
Li Mengmeng hugged Shen Tian’s arm and said happily,
“Tiantian, even if she won’t play, we will! Let’s put it together!”
“Yeah, let’s do it!” the other kids chimed in.
Their enthusiasm lifted Shen Tian’s spirits again. She dumped the puzzle pieces onto the table and began organizing the frame, instructing the others as she’d seen Shen Xian do at home.
“My Mommy says you have to start with the edges. No rushing—start with the corners and build inward!”
The others nodded in agreement, fully convinced.
Lu Ningwan, sitting across the room, watched Shen Tian’s serious little expression and couldn’t help but smile.
But kids will be kids. One boy, Huang Shuai, accidentally knocked a puzzle piece off the table, and despite everyone searching, it was nowhere to be found. Huang Shuai was close to tears. Shen Tian wasn’t thrilled either, especially since the missing piece was the duck’s beak, making the final image look incomplete. But she knew Huang Shuai hadn’t meant it, so she just stayed quiet and continued working.
When the puzzle was finished—minus the beak—Shen Tian tried to comfort the boy.
“It’s okay, I know it wasn’t on purpose. It still looks great!”
Still feeling guilty, Huang Shuai dashed to his seat, pulled a pack of panda cookies from his bag, and shyly offered it to her.
“Tiantian, I’m sorry for losing a piece. These cookies are for you.”
Shen Tian waved him off.
“No need! Mommy says we should get along with everyone~”
But Huang Shuai stood firm.
“My mom says that admitting your mistakes makes you a good kid. I was the one who lost it, so I should say sorry. Please take them!”
Seeing how sincere he was, Shen Tian finally accepted the cookies and said,
“Okay. Let’s just treat it like you’re sharing snacks. We can all eat together!”
“Yay!” the other kids cheered, gathering around.
Shen Tian even saved a few cookies and set them aside for Lu Ningwan. The rest were quickly gobbled up, and when Huang Shuai saw everyone happy, he finally smiled.
After munching on two cookies, Shen Tian toddled over to Lu Ningwan with the remaining five or six.
“Xiao Lu-jiejie, I saved some for you. They’re really yummy. Everyone else had some too~”
Lu Ningwan, already feeling a little bad for refusing her earlier, smiled and said,
“Okay, let’s eat them together.”
She opened the bag, took one, and handed it to Shen Tian, who happily accepted it and began munching away.
After they finished the cookies, Lu Ningwan asked,
“You looked upset earlier—was something wrong?”
Shen Tian pursed her lips and said,
“Huang Shuai lost one of my puzzle pieces, but he apologized and gave me cookies, so I’m not mad anymore.”
Looking thoughtful, Lu Ningwan said like a little grown-up,
“If one piece is missing, I can draw a replacement for you.”
“Really? You can do that, Xiao Lu-jiejie?” Shen Tian’s eyes sparkled.
“Yup.” Lu Ningwan pulled out some stiff cardstock and colored pens from her backpack. “Let’s go see where the missing piece is—I’ll help you draw it.”
Shen Tian clutched her arm happily.
“Thank you, Xiao Lu-jiejie!”
“No need to thank me. Let’s go.”
They returned to the puzzle. Lu Ningwan examined the missing corner, then folded the cardstock to fit the shape, carefully cut it out with scissors, and colored it with a yellow marker.
She’d learned how to draw at home, especially ducks, so she wasn’t fazed at all. Once she slid the new piece into place, it looked surprisingly good—almost seamless.
“Wow! Xiao Lu-jiejie, you’re amazing!” Shen Tian exclaimed in awe.
The other kids quickly joined in the praise. Having a puzzle piece personally made by Lu Ningwan made Shen Tian even happier.
Later that afternoon, Shen Xian picked up Lin Qinghan before going to fetch Shen Tian. They were planning to stay at Fang Jinglan’s house that night—and Shen Xian also planned to sneak the expensive pill into
Shen Wenkang’s usual calcium supplements and get him to take it without suspicion.
When Lin Qinghan lifted Shen Tian into the car, she noticed the little girl clutching the duck puzzle tightly. Smiling, she said,
“You really like this puzzle, huh? Want Mama to put it in your backpack?”
Shen Tian shook her head.
“No! This one has the beak that Xiao Lu-jiejie drew for me. She’s amazing—she can do everything!”
Curious, Lin Qinghan asked,
“Can Mama take a look?”
After a moment of hesitation, Shen Tian reluctantly handed it over, whispering,
“Be careful, Mama. Don’t lose it.”
Lin Qinghan laughed.
“Don’t worry, Mama will be very careful. I won’t damage your special drawing.”
She pulled out the completed puzzle and spotted the beak-shaped piece right away. The drawing was remarkably good—far beyond what an average preschooler could manage.
Smiling as she slid the puzzle back into its box, Lin Qinghan teased,
“It really is quite well-done. Alright, Mama will pack it up for you.”
Shen Tian immediately clutched the box back to her chest.
From the rearview mirror, Shen Xian caught the whole scene and commented jealously,
“So she only treasures it because of the piece Xiao Lu-jiejie drew, huh?”
Shen Tian, oblivious to the teasing, nodded enthusiastically.
“Yup! It’s the first thing Xiao Lu-jiejie ever gave me. I’m really happy!”
Shen Xian pursed her lips. Shen Tian was only four and already acting like this? She worried that one day someone could lure her away with a simple wave of the hand.
When the three of them arrived at Fang Jinglan’s house, she was in the kitchen washing vegetables. Shen Xian and Lin Qinghan immediately ushered her out.
“You go play with Tiantian, Mom—we’ll handle dinner.”
With all the prep work already done, one of them chopped while the other cooked, and in no time, the table was filled with delicious dishes. Shen Xian glanced at the affection ratings hovering above her parents’ heads—both were now at 90.
The original Shen Xian had done plenty to disappoint them. Yet, true to the saying “parents’ hearts are full of hope”, they had always longed for her to change. Now that she herself had been given a second chance, she would cherish them, take care of them, and protect this hard-won family bond.
